Graveside services for lifelong Seminole County resident, Beulah Bell Brooks are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16 at the Cummings Cemetery.
She died Aug. 14, 2003, at the age of 84 in Seminole Estates Nursing Home.
She was born Sept.23, 1919, in Maud to Avery Lee Choate and Maude Ethyle (Cope).
She was married to William Lee Brooks in 1935 in Maud.
She was a housewife.
She had attended the Assembly of God, Church of God and Immanuel Fellowship.
She was preceded in death by her husband William Lee Brooks on Dec. 9, 1992; two brothers, two sisters and a grandson, Danny Arthur Johnson.
She is survived by one daughter, Carol Dean Johnson of Maud; four sons, Forrest Leroy Brooks of Ada, Avery Leon Boroks of Seminole, James Ralph Brooks of Shawnee and Donald Ray Brooks of Maud; 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Services will be officiated by Jim Hutton.
Interment will follow at Cummings Cemetery under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home, Maud.
Allen Odell Broome
Graveside services for longtime Seminole County resident Allen Odell Broome, are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at the Vamoosa Cemetery in Konawa.
He died May 20, 2003 at the age of 72, at the Ballard Nursing Home in Ada.
He was born on April 23, 1931, in North Carolina.
He was a retired truck driver and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Rev. Wade Scott will be officiating under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.
Katheryn J. Brown
Funeral services for former longtime Seminole County resident, Katheryn J. Brown are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at Prospect Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.
She died July 19, 2003, at the age of 84 at her home in Oklahoma City.
She was born Feb. 14, 1919, in Seminole to Frank and Lillie Mae (Edwards) Ponder, who preceded her in death.
She was married to the late James Clyde Brown, Sr.
She was a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church as well as a member of Eastern Star, Lilly of the Valley Chapter 7 in Oklahoma City.
She was retired from the Oklahoma Employment Security where she worked as interviewer supervisor.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Donald and James; six brothers, Tinch, Roy, Paul, Alonzo, Ted and Taft.
She is survived three sons, Eugene (Mickey) Brown of Leavenworth, Kan., Henry B. Brown of Wichita, Kan. and Ruddy Brown of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Frank Ponder Jr. of Midwest City and Dr. Henry Ponder of Talladega, Ala.; four sisters, Mamie Jackson, Dorothy Cooper and Annie J. Bell, all of Oklahoma City and Eva McGough of Las Vegas, Nev.; 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Interment will follow at Westwood Cemetery in Wewoka under the direction of Myers Mortuary.
Saphronia Brown
Funeral services for longtime Seminole County resident, Saphronia Brown are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17 at the Stout-Phillips Funeral Home with Revs. Redmon Wolf and Houston Tiger officiating.
Wake services will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday evening at Stout-Phillips Chapel.
Interment will be at the Carbitcher Cemetery in Bowlegs under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home of Wewoka.
She died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at the age of 71 in Seminole Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 30, 1931 in Shawnee to Freeland and Lula "Cosar" Carbitcher.
She attended school at Sequoyah.
She was married to Amos Brown on Jan. 23, 1962 in Eufaula.
They lived in the Seminole area for many years, while she worked for Wrangler as a sewing machine operator.
She was a member of Tallahassee Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Freeland and Lula Carbitcher; her husband, Amos Brown; two brothers, Babe Adams and Jimmy Carbitcher; one sister-in-law, Nancy Carbitcher and two nephews, Younger "Sonny" Carbitcher and Vincent "Porky" Harjo.
She is survived by two daughters, Dorthy Davis and husband, Leroy and Abby Lawhead and husband Johnathan, all of Seminole; seven grandchildren, Erica West, Joel Davis, Siah Davis, Timothy Davis, Crystal Davis, Chris Daniel and Fvs-chvtv Brown, all of Seminole; eight great grandchildren and one sister, Mary Jane Harjo of Bowlegs.
Pallbearers will be Glen Tiger, Robby Tiger, Jimpsey Tiger, Ricky Harjo, Raymond Harjo and Curtis Harjo.
Honorary pallbearers will be nephews.
Jackie Bruner
Funeral services for former Seminole County resident, Jackie Lee Bruner are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23 at the Earl M. Temple Memorial Chapel located at 2801 N. Kelley Ave. in Oklahoma City.
Interment will follow at the Bruner cemetery in Konawa.
Bruner died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at the age of 50.
He was born June 15, 1953 in Oklahoma City to Johnnie and Geneva Bruner.
He was the sixth born of ten children and had accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Konawa.
He continued his walk with Christ at Southern Temple Baptist Church.
He received his education from Walnut Grove Elementary, Konawa Elementary, J.F. Kennedy Jr. High and graduated from Capitol Hill Senior High School.
He also received a certificate for Auto Body Repair from Quachita Vo-Tech Center and was a successful business owner of Bruner’s Auto Repair and Sales.
He was known for his athletic abilities in track and football.
Bruner was a compassionate and generous person and loved giving and making others happy.
He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, nephew and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Geneva Bruner; one brother, John D. Bruner and his grandparents.
He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn (Linda); one son, Craig Bruner; five daughters, Falisha Smith, Ericka Boyce, Jackie Bruner, Andrea Bruner and Tiffany Bruner, all of Oklahoma City; six brothers, Joseph, Bryant, Charles, Errol and Michael Bruner and David Young, all of Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Loel T. Bryan
Graveside services for former Seminole resident, Loel Terry Bryan, were held on June 3 at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Bladensburg, Md.
She died on May 31, 2003 at the age of 91 in Winchester, Va.
She was born March 26, 1912 in Vidette, Ark. to Perry Kay and Sarah Alice Smith Grisso.
She was owner of Arden’s Childrenswear, retiring in 1968.
She was a member of Bowlegs United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was an avid quilter and active in numerous quilting clubs and circles.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Ervin Terry, and her second husband, Daniel Joseph Bryan.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Terry McKeown of Winchester, Va. and Kay Terry Jaeschke of Deale, Md.; one son, Gerald Donald Tery of Sarasota, Fla.; a brother, Lloyd Wesley Grisso of Moab, Utah; six grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Memorials may be made to a favorite church or charity.
Johnnie K. Buckner
Funeral services for former Seminole County resident, Johnnie K. Buckner are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hillabee Indian Baptist Church in Hanna.
She died Aug. 2, 2003, at the age of 47 in Oklahoma City.
She was born Oct. 30, 1955, to Wilson Hill of Oklahoma City and Mary J. Larney of Seminole County.
She is survived by her parents, Mary J. Larney of Seminole and Wilson Hill of Oklahoma City;one son, James Buckner of Oklahoma City; three brothers; one sister and one grandson
Officiating the services will be Rev. Bill Hobia.
Interment will follow in Hanna City Cemetery under the driection of Midtown Tulsa Chapel in Tulsa.
Lenora Buckner
Funeral services for lifelong Seminole County resident, Lenora Edwards Buckner of Wewoka, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 at New Lima High Auditorium.
Officiating pastor will be Rev. F.D. Cochran of Scipio Baptist Church, Lima.
Interment will follow at Lima Cemetery under the direction of Myers Mortuary, Wewoka.
She died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at the age of 89 at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City.
She was born May 4, 1914, in Lima to Joe and Easter Hunter.
She received her education in Lima and lived in Seminole County all of her life..
She became a member of Scipio Baptist Church at an early age, where she served as missionary president, member of Sunday school, member of the Women’s Auxiliary and also of BTU.
She was married to William F. Buckner who preceded her in death.
She also had four children to precede her in death and her sister, Ida Mae Johnson.
She is survived by six sons, Lorenzo A. Edwards, Sammy Joe Edwards, Lawrence Kennety Edwards, Terry Loy Edwards all of Lima and Wallace J. Edwards and Kim Renado Edwards of Oklahoma City; and four daughters, Princella Ross, Rosetta Cravens and Senobia James, all of Oklahoma City and Carol Ann Morris of Omaha, Neb.; 25 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Lorenzo Edwards, Terry Edwards, Sammy Edwards, Kenneth Edwards, Wallace Edwards, Kim Edwards, Sherman Cravens and Ronnie James.
