Graveside services for Seminole County resident, Richard Carolina Jr. are scheduled for Friday, Aug. 22 at 11 a.m. at the Ethiopian Reformed Coptic Church of Christ Cemetery in Nobletown.
He died Aug. 19, 2003, at the age of 55.
He was born Oct. 10, 1947, in Wewoka to Richard Carolina Sr. and Geneva (Barkus) Carolina.
He was raised in Wewoka, attended Douglas School and graduated from Wewoka High School.
He also attended Oklahoma State University and received his master’s degree in education.
He had most recently been teaching in the Butner School District.
He was a member of the Ethiopian Reformed Coptic Church of Christ.
He married Verdelma (Stephens) Carolina on May 6, 1977, in Tulsa.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Geneva Carolina and his sister, May Carolina.
He is survived by his wife, Verdelma; two daughters, Nkechi Carolina of Oklahoma City and Constance Daniels of Atlanta; one son Richard Carolina III, of Oklahoma City; step children, Shery S. Grant of Oklahoma City, Michael Gilbert of Wewoka, Marvin Arbertha of Memphis, Tenn. and Welford Jarvis of Garland, Texas; 17 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; his father, Richard Carolina Sr. of Wewoka; four sisters, Gwendolyn Ferris and Gloria Carolina, both of Oklahoma City and Brenda Carolina and Pandora Johnson, both of Wewoka; two brothers, Earl Carolina and Jimmie Carolina, both of Wewoka; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Bishop Charley will be officiating.
Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.
Jason Carolina
Funeral services for former Seminole resident, Jason Carolina are scheduled for April 29 at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Wewoka.
He died April 21, 2003, in Midwest City Regional Hospital in Midwest City.
He was born on June 25, 1979 in Oklahoma City.
He was the son of Manuel Carolina and the late Mae Francis Scobey.
He lived in Wewoka until his graduation from Wewoka High School in 1997, when he moved to Del City.
He was a member of the basketball team and in 1996, the team won the state championship with each member of the team receiving a state championship ring.
He united with Middlecreek Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. C.L.Prevost.
He attended Rose State College in Midwest City and worked for Kentucky Fried Chicken.
He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother, Ivan Carolina.
Survivors include his father, Manuel Carolina of Wewoka; two sons, Nathaniel and Alexander Carolina; six brothers, Manuel Carolina, Jr., Sydney Carolina, Ronnie Carolina and Kevin Carolina of Oklahoma City, Oscar Michael McKinney of Del City; and Jimmy Cudjo of Wichita Falls, Texas; and four sisters, Lisa Carolina of Oklahoma City, Tresa Kendrick of Virginia, Cassandra Carolina of Ardmore and Felicia Rainey of Atlanta, Ga.
Burial will be at Westwood Cemetery of Wewoka under the direction of Myers Mortuary.
Odis Carrigan
Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident, Odis Jean Carrigan are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel.
He died April 26, 2003, at the age of 84 in the Ballard Nursing Home of Ada.
He was born July 10, 1918 in Seminole to James Henry Carrigan and Nora Alice (Stailey) Carrigan.
He married Mildred Viola Carrigan on October 18, 1941 in Seminole.
He worked for Double Cola and then went into the oilfield business where he worked for several oilfield companies and then retired as an oilfield truck driver.
He served in the Army Air Force and as a sergeant in World War II.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Ada, the American Legion and a lifetime member of VFW.
His parents and one sister preceded him in death.
He is survived by his spouse, Mildred Viola Carrigan of Ada; three daughters, Lynett Jones and Jean Trobaugh of Ada and Delois Jean Carrigan of Maud; one son, Wendell Ray Carrigan of Ada; one sister, Susie Williams of Shawnee; two brothers, James Carrigan of Duncan and R.M. Carrigan of Utah; one granddaughter; two step grandsons; and two step great grandchildren.
Officiating ministers will be Dr. Bob Bender and Rev. Larry Goins.
Interment will follow to Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Betsy Casteel
Funeral services for Betsy Jane Taylor Casteel were scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29 at Temple Of Praise Church at the corner of University and Hoover Streets in Seminole with Rev. Harold Turner officiating.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at the Spring Baptist Church with interment to follow.
Officiating the memorial service will be Pastor Leon Postoak.
Spring Baptist Church is located on Highway 56, west of Sasakwa.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
Casteel died at her home at the age of 50 on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003.
She was born on October 20, 1953, in Talihina to Joseph and Edna Taylor, both of which preceded her in death as did one sister, Delores Taylor.
Casteel and her family resided in Texas until moving to Oklahoma during her childhood years.
She was an enrolled member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma.
She graduated from Sasakwa High School in 1971.
She continued her education at the Byng School of Practical Nursing, where she received her Licensed Practical Nursing degree in 1972.
She married David Casteel of Seminole in 1973.
They resided north of Seminole for several years, in the Varnum community, where they raised their three children.
They moved to Asher, OK in 1993 and returned to Seminole three years later.
After their divorce in 2000, Betsy continued to reside in Seminole.
She spent much of her life working as a Licensed Practical Nurse at various facilities in the Seminole County area.
Most of her career was spent as a nurse at Pioneer Nursing Home in Seminole.
She was most recently employed at the Seminole Medical Center.
She took great pride in being a nurse and had hoped to further her education in the nursing field.
During her lifetime, she was very active for the Lord, taking on various roles within the churches that she had attended.
She greatly enjoyed the fellowship of the many Brothers and Sisters that she had grown a mutual love for throughout the years.
She loved Jesus and viewed all situations in her life as opportunities to witness to others.
She loved people and found delight in visiting with them.
No one was ever a stranger to her.
She could strike up a conversation with anyone and frequently did, befriending numerous people from all walks of life.
She enjoyed spending her free time "on the go".
Friends and relatives never knew when to expect a visit from her.
It was not uncommon for her to drop-by just to check on her loved ones or to share some news.
She always shared her positive outlooks on life and had an unpredictable sense of humor.
She touched the lives of countless people with her genuine personality.
Her spontaneity, along with her smile and laughter, will be deeply missed by many.
She is survived by one daughter, Delores "Buffy" Troglin and husband, Eli of Bowlegs; two sons, Rodney Casteel and wife, Tiffany of Shawnee and Randy Casteel and wife, Tracy of Wynnewood; seven grandchildren, Austin Troglin, Aaron Troglin, Kristen Casteel, Kayla Casteel, Telerra Casteel, Cameron Casteel, and Hank Casteel; one sister, Lina Coley Taylor of Seminole; three brothers, Calvin Taylor of Shawnee, Jimmy Taylor and wife, Ida of Holdenville, and Leon Postoak of Oklahoma City; several nephews and nieces and other relatives and friends.
Fred H. Casteel
Funeral services for Seminole native, Fred H. Casteel are scheduled for Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Bill Eisenhour Southeast Chapel.
He was born on June 14, 1916 in Maud to Frank L. and Bessie (Frank) Casteel.
He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1933 and married his first wife Dolores on dec. 30, 1941 in Shawnee.
He was in World War II from 1941-1945 and worked at Tinker Air Force Base from 1945-1973.
He was a charter member of Del City Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; a son, Kent; and two grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister and four siblings who died in childhood.
Interment will follow in Sunny Lane Cemetery under the direction of Bill Eisenhour Southeast.
