Memorial services for longtime Bowlegs/Wolf resident Bobby Wayne Davis are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole.
Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate.
Services will be under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Davis died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003 at his home at the age of 73.
He was born to Harold Davis and Flora O. (Patton) on Nov. 19, 1930 in Seminole.
Davis married Jo (Springer) Williams on April 11, 1997 in Miami.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War.
Davis worked for Douglas Aircraft as a mechanic for several years, and worked for Commercial Brick for several years.
Davis retired as a dozer operator.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ivan and L.C. Davis; and one sister, Hope Davis.
Davis is survived by his wife, Jo (Springer) Williams Davis, of the home; three daughters, Vicki Carter, Tulsa, and Kerry Stroup and Tammy Davis, both of Choctaw; one son, Randy Davis, Oklahoma City; one step-son, Tony Williams, Bethel; one step-daughter, Tina Jones, Seminole; one sister, Betty Close, Pensacola, Fla.; and several grandchildren.
George Davis
Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident Dr. George Henry Davis are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.
Rev. Davis Karges will officiate.
Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Dr. Davis passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at Seminole Medical Center at the age of 86.
He was born to George H. Davis Sr., and Minta Kelley (Mills) Davis in Forney, Texas on March 25, 1917.
George married Marjorie Claudia (Chambers) Davis on June 23, 1941 in Carmi, Ill.
Dr. Davis was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a Tech Third Grade with the Medical Detachment in the 274th Infantry during World War II.
He was a longtime Seminole Medical Doctor, who, along with Dr. Julian Wood, operated the Pace-Chambers Clinic for many years.
George was a Mason, an Elk, a member of the American Legion, and a life member of the Shawnee Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was preceded in death by one son, Claude Starr Davis; two brothers, Paul Wallace Kelley and Patrick Howard Kelley; and his parents.
George is survived by his wife, Marjorie, of the home; one son, George Starr Davis, Shawnee; one daughter, Annelt Davis Allen, Seminole; three brothers, John Kelley, Hartville, Ark., Albert Kelley, Phoenix, Ariz., and David Kelley, Seminole; three sisters, Leila Bennett, Phoenix, Ariz., Irene Lockhart, Tulsa, and Alice Tregla, Sunnyville, Calif.; two grandchildren, Djuana Davis and Ginger Swaim; and one great-grandchild, Brooklin Hilton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Julian Wood, Joe Scott, David Henley, Howard Allen, and Keith Swaim.
Roy Franklin Davis
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident, Roy Franklin Davis are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17 at the Church of Christ with Chris Stinnett officiating.
Interment will follow at the Little Cemetery, north of Seminole, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
He died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at the age of 85 at Seminole Estates Nursing Home.
He was born Aug. 26, 1918, in Paden to Richard Franklin Davis and Nora (Chapman) Davis.
He was married to Ola Estella (Behrnes) Davis on June 19, 1939 in Wewoka.
Davis began is working career in the oilfield all over Texas and Oklahoma.
He retired as custodian from Wrangler after ten years.
He was also custodian at the Church of Christ in Seminole for 10-15 years and managed the Dollar General Store in Seminole.
Davis also worked for Otasco and Norton Ramsey Chevrolet Garage.
He enjoyed vegetable gardening the most and loved to give his vegetables away.
He was a member of the Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mae Holik.
He is survived by his wife, Ola Davis of the home; one son, Doyle Davis and wife, Cindy of Seminole; one daughter, Pauletta Vulgamore and husband Larry of Seminole; two sisters, Opal Smith of Tecumseh and Edna Wiley of Hackett, Ark.; grandchildren, Mike Davis and wife, Joy; Angela Armstrong and husband, Bryan; Melissa Davis of Seminole; Marcia Davis of Oklahoma City; step grandchildren, Matt Osborn and Heather Osborn; great grandchildren, Bradley Davis, Shelby Davis and Jennifer Armstrong; and step great grand children, Mileeaha Osborn and Jay Dean Osborn.
Pallbearars will be nephews.
Honorary pallbearers are Gib Foster, Jack Cook, Bill Parks, Ralph Pippin and Erman Crawford.
Steven Davis
Funeral services for Steven Lee Davis are scheduled for Friday Dec. 26 at the Midway Baptist Church just south of Wewoka at 10 a.m.
Interment will follow at Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home of Wetumka.
He died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, in Seminole at the age of 18 as the result of a car accident two miles south of Seminole on Hwy 99.
Davis was born on March 9, 1985, at Carl Albert Hospital in Ada to Glenna VanZant and Danny Davis
He was a member of Mid-Way Baptist Church in Wewoka and was baptized on August 13, 1995.
He had also attended the First Assembly of God in Wetumka, as well as Wetumka and Moss elementary schools.
Davis completed his education in Wetumka graduating in May of 2003.
While attending Wetumka elementary, he was a member of 4-H and he received 4th in State for his quilt.
He enjoyed participating in summer baseball in Moss and Wetumka.
While attending Moss elementary school, Steven was on the honor roll.
In his junior high and high school career he was on the Academic Team, band, drama and vocal music in which he received awards.
Davis also attended ECU’s Upward Bound summer program for 3 years.
After High School Steven attended Wes Watkins Vo-tech in Wetumka and received Brain Bench certifications in Automotive Industry Knowledge (U.S.), Computer Fundamentals and Repair, and Networking Technology.
He also participated in Skills contest regional and state and received 1st place honors at the skills contest.
He received recognition, classroom decorum award in electronics technology and received a scholarship tuition waiver in May 2003.
Davis enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
His hobbies included fishing, hunting, drawing, writing, sewing, listening to music, and auto mechanics and restorations.
He had always been a hard worker and enjoyed working with his hands.
He had jobs mowing yards, building fences, and enjoyed various other odd jobs.
He enjoyed working with his Grandpa Virgil Ward at gun and knife shows and later with his dad Mickey VanZant.
He was recently employed at the Wal-Mart Super Center in Seminole and was very enthusiastic about his job and meeting new people and making new friends.
Davis was saving his money to further his education and planning on continuing working at Wal-Mart.
Davis was a creative, understanding, and loving young man.
He was sensitive to others feelings and needs.
He was imaginative and enjoyed creating, drawing, and poetry. Davis was an enrolled member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma, was very proud of his mixed heritage which also included German, Black Dutch, Irish, and English.
He was a patient young man, a good listener, with a quiet demeanor and often shy at times. He touched the lives of the people he met and knew.
He did not judge a person when he met them, giving himself time to get to know a person.
He had convictions of right and wrong and stood firm in them. He was loved immensely by his family and will be deeply missed by his family and his many friends.
Davis was preceded in death by his Great-great-great grandfather, Herman Lee McMullin, his great-great grandfather Glen F. Wyrick, and his grandfathers, John F. VanZant, Luther A. Davis, and Virgil F. Ward, Jr., and his grandmothers, Helen "Muzzy" M. Wyrick, Ida M. VanZant, and Dora E. Ward-Thompson, as well as many other relatives.
Survivors include his parents, Mickey and Glenna Vanzant; Grandmothers, Annetta G. Ward, Nellie M. Davis, and his father, Danny D. Davis and wife Judy; Aunt, Jennifer Ward; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
Flora Deere
Funeral services for lifelong Seminole County resident, Flora "Abuskee" Deere of Cromwell are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20 at the Greenleaf Baptist Church in Okemah with Revs. Billy Coon and Houston Tiger officiating under the direction of the Stout-Phillips Funeral Home of Wewoka.
Wake services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at the Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel.
She will be moved to the church at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20.
Interment will be at the Deere family cemetery in Cromwell.
Deere died Tuesday, Dec. 16, at the age of 76 at her home.
She was born July 31, 1927, to Jessie and Maud (Harjo) Deere and lived in the Cromwell area all her life.
She was baptized by C.D. Harjo and has been an active member of the Greenleaf Baptist Church of Okemah.
Deere had been a Women’s Leader of the church since 1982 and also served as treasurer.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Maud Deere; two sisters, Lora Mae Deere and Cora Deere; and one brother, Chebon Deere.
Deere is survived by one brother, Judson Deere of Okmulgee; three sisters, Linda Deere Ponkilla of Shawnee, Hanna Deere of Cromwell and Shirley Deere Johnson of Okemah; many nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be the Brotherhood.
