Funeral services for Seminole County resident, Thelma E. Griffin are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug 9 at the First Baptist Church in Maud.
She died Aug. 6, 2003, at the age of 81 at Valley View Regional Hospital in Ada.
She was born April 29, 1922 in Smithville to Lon White and Martha Ellen (Scott) White.
She moved to Maud from Clebit in 1980.
She was married to Ted Hilton Griffin on June 2, 1944 in Idabel.
She was a retired field representative for Project HEART.
She was a member of Eastern Star and First Baptist Church in Maud.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ted Griffin on Aug. 18, 1987; one brother, Alfred White; and one sister, Captlola Winton.
She is survived by four daughters, Ola Mae Trout of Maud, Lola O’Daniel of Enid, Linda Williams of Minco and Christine Brown of Oklahoma City; one son, Ray Griffin of Seminole; one sister, Lorene Blades of Wapanucka; 19 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Casket bearers will be Hilton Trout, Terry Trout, Ray Griffin, Jr., John Griffin, Curtis Williams, Clay Williams, Michael Brown, Ron Brown, Bradley Brown and Johnny O’Daniel.
Rev. Dan O’Daniel will officiate the service.
Interment will follow at the Cummings Cemetery under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home of Maud.
Cora Grooms
Funeral services for long time Seminole County resident, Cora Elizabeth Grooms of Maud, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at the First Baptist Church in Maud.
Revs. Carl Whitfield and Wayne Taylor, along with Bobby Woods, will officiate.
Visitation will be at the Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home on Saturday from 9 a.m.-7 p.m., Sunday from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. and Monday until service.
Interment will follow at the Cummings Cemetery in Maud under the direction of the Knight Swearingen Funeral Home of Maud.
She died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at the age of 95 at her home in Maud.
She was born Aug. 26, 1908, in Big Sands, Texas, to Clarence Pittman and Nancy Jane (Ford) Pittman.
She was married to Steven Lonzo Grooms on Feb. 3, 1924, in Palestine, Texas.
He preceded her in death.
Grooms devoted her life to raising her family, worked in many of the Maud Care’s, and also worked for several years at Pottawatomie County Dist. 3 County Barn in Maud.
Even after she retired, she worked at the Maud Tigers Den Carfe.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Maud.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence, in 1965; three sons, Jack, Joe and George Grooms; one daughter, Beatrice Smiley and several grandchildren.
She is survived by 7 daughters and son-in-laws, Don and Joyce Stackhouse Brann, Lloyd and Glenda Bowers, Gary and Virginia McKlaskey, Bob and Francis McCarty, all of Maud, Paul and Jeanne Rowley of Ardmore, Louise Kelley of Oklahoma City, Bobby and Bobbie Woods of Newnan, Ga.; one sister, Mary Louise Arrington of Gilmer, Texas; 46 grandchildren, 90 great grandchildren and 21 great-great grandchildren.
Casket bearers are great grandsons, Josh Edlridge, Tommy Kelley, Jeremy Woods, Dane Wood, Robby McCarty, Jacob Goodnight, Dustin Goodnight and Matt Lowe.
Honorary bearers are Ray O’Daniel, Everett Anderson, Buck Day, Paul Lucy, Floyd Bowers, Homer Burgan and Jess Wasson.
Oma Grove
Funeral services for longtime Konawa area resident Oma Luecille Grove, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Konawa.
Father Matthew Brown, O.S.B. will officiate.
Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.
Rosary will be held this evening, Friday, Aug. 15, at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Oma passed away Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003 at the Sunset Estates Nursing Home in Tecumseh at the age of 82.
She was born to Charles William Castleberry and Oma Pairlee (Millican) Castleberry on Sept. 3, 1920 in Milburn.
Oma married Hubert Grove in 1948 in Shawnee.
She operated a laundry in Maud for several years, and also worked as a seamstress for Blue Bell in Seminole.
Oma was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and a member of the church’s alter society.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hubert in 1980; seven brothers and sisters; and a son-in-law, Tommy Carrington.
Oma is survived by two sons and daughters-in-laws, Clifford and Shelia Grove, Maud, and Wayne and Julie Grove, Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Pat Carrington, Maud, and Barbara Culley and her husband Dwayne Culley, Newalla; one brother, Bill Castleberry, Marysville, Calif.; one sister, Martha Lueze Marcucci, Russell Springs, Ky; eight grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Serving as casket bearers will be John Carrington, Clifton Grove, John Grove, Derrick Rowsey, Dwayne Culley, and Joe Semtner.
Fred "Bud" Grubbs
No services are planned at this time for Seminole resident, Fred Joseph "Bud" Grubbs.
He died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at the age of 69 in the Seminole Medical Center Hospital.
He was born Dec. 5, 1933, in Coalgate to Murray Grubbs and Marie (Burrows) Grubbs.
Grubbs has been a Seminole resident for the past 11 years.
He was a disabled veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Linda Wageman.
He is survived by two daughters, LaDonna Myers of Denison, Texas and Teresa Ross of Key West, Fla.; two sisters, Evidean Payne and Betty Brandeberg, both of Portland, Ore.; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Floyd Guinn
Graveside services for Konawa native Floyd Roberts Guinn were held Monday, Dec. 1, 2003 at Cummings Cemetery in Maud.
Robert Birdwell officiated the services.
Services were under the direction of Watts Funeral Home of Madill.
Guinn died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003 at his residence in Lebanon, Okla.
He was born to Charlie Alexander and Effie O. (Mitchell) Guinn on Aug. 4, 1927 in Konawa.
Guinn was reared in Ray City and lived in Virginia for several years before moving to Lebanon in 1975.
He married Ruby Pearl Arles on Feb. 14, 1999 in Texas.
Guinn worked as a Mill Wright for the heavy machinery industry for several years and was a member of the Mill Wright local #1548.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter; one sister; and four brothers.
Guinn is survived by his wife, Ruby Pearl Guinn, of the home; one son, Robert Floyd Guinn of Maryland; one daughter, GiGi LeKites, Ocean City, Maryland; one brother, Tommie Guinn, Meeker; and two grandchildren.
Bill Guymon
A memorial services will be held at a later date in Seminole for longtime resident, Bill Guymon.
The body will be cremated and burial will be at the Resthaven Cemetery in Seminole.
Funeral arrangements will be under the direction of the Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
Arrangements in Kansas will be under the direction of Carson-Wall Funeral Home.
Guymon died at 5:10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at the age of 88 at the Parsons Presbyterian Manor due to failing health.
He was born July 15, 1915, in Oliver Springs, Tenn. to Phil and Lula (Giles) Davis and was adopted by the Guymon family at the age of nine.
He was raised in McAlester and after high school, he attended the University of Arkansas and graduated from Freed Hardeman Seminary at Henderson, Tenn.
Guymon then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed stateside during World War II.
He was a member of the Duncan Lions Club, while living in Duncan.
After being discharged in 1945, he became a Church of Christ minister and pastored churches in Seminole, Henryetta, Healdton, Duncan, Sapulpa, Randlett, Texas, California, and Missouri.
After retiring, he and his wife settled in Seminole.
Guymon and Martha Akers Knowles were united in marriage on May 9, 1938 in Wellington, Kan.
She survives him at the Parsons Presbyterian Manor.
In addition to his wife, Martha, he is also survived by two sons, Lance Guymon of Parsons, Kan. and J. Carl Guymon of Broken Arrow; two daughters, Shirley Branson of Meade, Kan. and Sharon George of Hemet, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and one sister, Virgie Lane of Iowa Park, Texas.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Christiana Hall
Funeral services will be held for Seminole County residents mother, Christiana Lucy Hall, on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Prague with Bros. Tim Emmons and Kevin Wehrli officiating.
Visitation will be held at Parks Brothers Funeral Home on Friday, Sept. 5 from 6-8 p.m.
Interment will follow at Little Cemetery in Seminole County under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
She was born Nov. 2, 1913, in Lowrey, Boone County, Ark. to William Henry and May (Raines) Perry.
She died Sept. 4, 2003, at the age of 89 in Prague.
She lived in Prague most of her life and was a member of the First Baptist Church for 44 years.
She married Archie R. Hall on Aug. 11, 1930, in Keokuk.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers, three sisters, one daughter and one great-grandson.
Survivors include three sons, Ray Hall of Little, Johnny Hall of Prague and Jim Hall of Purcell; one daughter, Jane Cochran and Dreatha Johnson of Prague; 14 grandchildren’ 30 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
