Funeral services for Sasakwa resident Cecil Harjo are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa.
Ed George and Houston Tiger will officiate the services.
Burial will follow at Rock Springs Cemetery, under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home.
Wake services will be held tonight at Harjo’s residence.
Harjo died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003 at his home in Sasakwa at the age of 71.
He was born to Aleck Harjo and Rosie Ann (Leftwich) Harjo on Dec. 11, 1932 in Sasakwa, and lived in Seminole County most of his life.
Harjo was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict.
He was a military champion boxer, All-District, open little Champion, and was on his way to fight Champion Hurricane Carter, and due to an accident, had his boxing career end in 1957.
Harjo competed in 96 amateur, and 26 professional bouts.
He was also a three-time Golden Glove Champion, a butcher, taxi cab driver, and a barber.
Harjo was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Missie Carpitcher (Harjo), and Wannie Lane Harjo; and eight brothers, Fessher, Raymond, Roman, Robert, Joe, William, Vernon, and Albert.
Harjo is survived by his former wife, Carolyn Ingram (Harjo); one son, Ronnie Cecil Harjo, Sasakwa; one daughter, Sharon Carol Harjo, OKC; and one grandson, Jerray Ron Harjo.
Christopher Harjo
Funeral services for Seminole resident Christopher Michael Harjo were scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday for an all night wake service at the Edgar Ellis home in Prague.
Traditional burial services were to begin Monday morning at the Sac & Fox Cemetery in Stroud.
Services were under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Harjo died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003 in Seminole County after an auto accident. He was 34.
He was born May 5, 1968 in Shawnee to Vincent Harjo and Joyce Ellis.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ada and attended auto mechanic school at Okmulgee Tech.
Harjo married Patria Jackson on Feb. 14, 1994 in Ada. She survives him of Ada.
He is also survived by his father, Vincent "Mike" and Opal Hajro and Anadarko; his mother, Joyce and Charles Burgess of Wolf; five children, Sonny Miguel Harjo, Christina Renee Harjo, Justin Ray Harjo, and LeeAnn Iley Harjo, all of Ada, and Andrew Keith Harjo of Shawnee; his paternal grandmother, Joshphine Harjo of Seminole; and brothers and sisters, Wilson C. Harjo of Prague, Jerri L. Abney Harjo of Stroud, Vincent M. Harjo II of Seminole, Virgil G. Harjo of Wewoka, Tenetke C. Hajro and Mikka F. Harjo, both of Anadarko.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather and maternal grandparents.
Fred Harjo
Funeral services for Sasakwa resident Fred Sonny Harjo were held at 2 p.m. today at the Spring Baptist Church in Sasakwa.
Revs. Fred Moppin and Eugene Harjo officiated the services.
Interment followed at the Harjo Family Cemetery in Sasakwa, under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home of Wewoka.
Harjo died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003 at the age of 79.
He was born to Fouscharjoe and Mandy (Fixico) Harjo on March 15, 1923 in Sasakwa.
Harjo’s lost his parents at an early age, and he was raised by his foster parents, Willie and Amey Palmer.
He was a lifelong resident of Seminole County, and attended school at Sasakwa.
Harjo was a member of the Spring Baptist Church in Sasakwa.
He married Ida Harjo on May 17, 1945, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 7, 1989.
Harjo was a veteran of World War II, and worked in housekeeping at Valley View Hospital in Ada for 26 years prior to his retirement in 1993.
Harjo is preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his foster parents; one daughter, Mandy Harjo; one brother, Homer Lee Harjo; and one sister, Sylba Walker.
He is survived by his daughters, Martha Jane Harjo, Sasakwa, Frankie Coley and Shawna Groves, both of Wewoka, and Laurie Owl, Seminole; his brothers, Rev. Eugene Harjo and John Robert Harjo; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Tommy Cunningham, Colton Coley, Micah Tarkington, Don Branscum, Steve Dail, and Cecil Moon.
Jeffery Lee Harjo
Funeral services for Konawa resident Jeffery Lee Harjo are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the Pentecostal Church of God Indian Mission in Konawa.
Rev. Arthur Wayne Carpitcher will officiate the services.
Burial will follow at the Davis Family Cemetery in Sasakwa, under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.
Wake services will be held tonight at 7 p.m. at the church.
Harjo died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003 at Integris Baptist Health Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 43.
He was born to Carlee Harjo and Pauline Harjo on Nov.29, 1959 in Wewoka.
He married Tammy Harjo, and she survives him of the home.
Harjo is also survived by his parents, Carlee and Pauline Harjo, Konawa; his maternal grandmother, Cora Harjo, Sasakwa; one son, Adam Harjo, of the home; one daughter, Kimberly Harjo, of the home; four brothers, Carl, Terry, Dale, and David Harjo, all of Konawa; and two sisters, Lahoma and Cecelia Harjo, both of Konawa.
Pallbearers will be James Harjo, Winfred Harjo, Jeremy Harjo, Nathan Harjo, Brian Harjo, Hank Harjo, and Ron Gipson.
Honorary bearers will be Rich Harjo, John Harjo, and Johnnie Harjo.
John Vincent Harjo
Funeral services for Seminole County resident, John Vincent Harjo are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Cedar Creek Eufaula Baptist Church in Konawa.
He died July 15, 2003, at the age of 39 in Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City.
He was born on March 6, 1964, in Wewoka, to Joseph and Rose Mae West Harjo.
Both preceded him in death.
He attended school in Hartshorne, and Okmulgee Tech from 1982-1984.
He was a professional machinist and was a member of the Cedar Creek Eufaula Baptist Church in Konawa.
Survivors include one sister, Anna Christine Harjo, Holdenville, and one brother, Leonard Wayne Harjo, Holdenville, seven nieces and nephews, two aunts, one great aunt, and a number of other relatives.
Wake Services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening, July 17, at the Stout-Phillips Chapel.
The body will be taken to the Cedar Creek Eufaula Baptist Church, Konawa, Friday, July 18, at 4:00 p.m.
Services will be officiated by Revs. Webster Fixico and Houston Tiger.
Interment will follow at West Family Cemetery in Holdenville under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka.
Larry Ray Harjo Sr.
Funeral services for former Seminole resident, Larry Ray Harjo Sr., of Shawnee, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3 at Bird Creek Indian Baptist Church in Sasakwa with burial at Ishlum-Harjo Family Cemetery in Vamoosa.
Officiating the service is Revs. Bunny Carpitcher, Joe Factor and Franklin Harjo.
Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home of Wewoka.
He will be taken to the family home at 4 p.m. Oct. 1 with wake services to begin at 7:30 p.m.
He will then be taken to Bird Creek Indian Baptist Church in Sasakwa at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2 for all night wake services.
He died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at the age of 55 in Ada.
He was born Dec. 3, 1947, in Konawa to Jamey and Anna Mae Harjo.
Harjo attended schools in Seminole and Konawa and was formerly employed by Shawnee Glass as a glasscutter.
He married Mary Larney Harjo on June 17, 1971, in Shawnee.
He was a member of the Bird Creek Indian Baptist Church in Sasakwa.
His parents preceded him in death.
Harjo is survived by his wife, Mary Harjo of the home; three children, Larry Harjo Jr. of Tecumseh, Brian Harjo and Krystal Harjo, both of Shawnee; four grandchildren; one brother, Terry Harjo of Oklahoma City; one sister, Janice Johnico of Kansas City, Mo.; and a host of other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Lydell Ydllowfish, Randy Coody, Andrew Coody Jr., Willie Harjo, Thomas Lindsay and Ellis Little.
Honorary bearers are Alvin Wing and Simon Larney.
Lois Harjo
Funeral services for lifelong Seminole County resident, Lois Harjo, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel.
She died June 6, 2003, at the age of 96, at the Seminole Medical Center.
She was born on Feb. 7, 1907, in Konawa to Tony Harjo and Yanah "Grant" Harjo.
She was a retired bookkeeper, a member of Achena Presbyterian Church, where she was the oldest member, she was the also the oldest member of the "Hvteyacukli" Band and the "Bear Claw".
Her parents; her brother, Elmer Harjo; and her sister, Fannie Harjo, preceded her in death.
She is survived by one brother, Andrew Harjo, of Maud.
Casket bearers are Frank Kelly, Jr., Eugene Millen, Charles Sewell, Fannel Smith, Russell Coker and Walter Coker.
Honorary Bearers are Danleve Smith, Velma Coker, Lorene Thorpe, Juliet Tiger and Samaria Harjo.
Wake services are set for 6 p.m. Sunday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.
Officiating the service will be Rev. Kelly Tiger, Sr.
Interment will follow at the Harjo Family Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
