Minnie Harjo

Funeral services for Seminole County resident, Minnie B. Harjo of Konawa are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday Dec. 23 at High Springs Indian Baptist Church in Konawa.

Wake service is set for 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22 at the Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Maud.

Interment will follow at the High Springs Indian Cemetery under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral home of Maud.

Harjo died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at the age of 89 after a long struggle with illness.

She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by all.

She was a mother, not only to her children, but also to their friends.

She was an active Women’s Leader at High Springs Indian Baptist Church in Konawa until she became ill.

One of the wonderful things that could be said about Harjo, is that she loved, cared and raised five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Annie Chupco; husband, Albert; and one daughter, Sereda Sanchez.

She is survived by three children, Joe Harjo of Shawnee, Elsie Cully and Steve Harjo, both of Konawa; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Love of Talihina and Ida Martin of Maud; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Pall bearers will be Frankie Sanchez, Christopher Sanchez, Ronnie A. Harjo, Harold Cully, A.J. Foster and Carlos Montoya.

Alternates will be Cordell Tebe and Phoenix Bills.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Larney, Adam Foster, Harris Cully, Bobby Bills, Noe Sanchez and Dale Padilla.

Ramona (Warledo) Harjo

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Ramona (Warledo) Harjo are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.

Revs. Houston Tiger and Dorsey Nero will officiate.

Burial will follow at the Harjo Family Cemetery, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Harjo died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003 at the Carl Albert Indian Hospital in Ada at the age of 68.

She was born to Simon Warledo and Lizzie (Johnson) Warledo in Seminole County on Nov. 20, 1934.

She married Andrew Harjo in May of 1954 in Wewoka.

Harjo was a homemaker and was of Methodist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

Harjo is survived by five daughters, Elizabeth Robles, Cyril, Karen Harjo, Bernice Harjo and Patricia Martinez, all of Oklahoma City and Sharon Ortiz, Seminole; two brothers, Benny Warledo, Tulsa and Roy Warledo of Colorado; three sisters, Moezella Larney, Seminole, and Augustine Warledo and Mary Ann Warledo, both of Tulsa; 21 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

Casket bearers will be Arnold, Anthony, Jose, Aaron, Andrew, Kevin, Ronnie and David.

Robert Harjo

Funeral services for Konawa resident Robert Harjo are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Konawa.

Revs. Darrell Stinnett and Dorsey Nero will officiate.

Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery, under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.

A wake service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Harjo died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003 at Oklahoma Heart Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 74.

He was born to Alec Harjo and Rosie (Leftwich) Harjo on July 28, 1928 in Sasakwa.

Harjo was a lifelong Seminole County resident.

He married Minnie Ruth Harjo on Oct. 14, 1949 in Wewoka.

Harjo was a self-employed contractor, was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and was of Baptist faith.

Harjo was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Fesher, Albert, Billy Joe, Raymond, Joe, and Roman Harjo; and one sister, Missie Carpitcher.

He is survived by his wife, Minnie; one son, Bob Harjo, Houston, Texas; one daughter, Gail Harjo, of the home; one brother, Cecil Harjo, Sasakwa; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Casketbearers will be the Chickasaw Nation Honor Guard.

Honorary bearers will be Jay Long, Jonas Burgess, and Lewis Carpitcher.

Rutger Alan Harjo

Funeral services for Rutger Alan Harjo, the grandson of former Seminole resident, George Harjo, are scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m. in the Church of the First Born, located at 100 SE 46th in Oklahoma City.

A wake service is scheduled for Thursday, May 28, 2003 at 6:30 p.m. in the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel.

Rutger Alan Harjo was born April 17, 1988 in Oklahoma City.

He passed from this life on May 25, 2003, in Oklahoma City.

Rutger attended Crooked Oak School.

He enjoyed fishing with his grandfather, George Harjo.

He was a Native American Indian and a member of the Seminole/Cherokee tribes.

He was preceded in death by his father, Franklin Harjo; Grandmother, Kathleen Harjo; and uncle, Steve Spain.

Surviving relatives include his grandfather, George Harjo of Oklahoma City; grandmother, Gerri Scott also of Oklahoma City; Becky Spain, the one who served as his mother; one brother, Jerrad Spain; several uncles and aunts including Mike Spain, Gary and Lori Spain.

Interment will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens.

Emily Harmon

Funeral services for former Seminole resident, Emily Leona (Barre) Harmon are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9 at Lake Overholser Church of the Nazarene located at 3900 Overholser Drive in Bethany.

Rev. Don Nobles will officiate.

Funeral services conducted by Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.

Harmon died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at the age of 94.

She was born April 10, 1909, in Biloxi, Miss. to Namota Susan (Lyon) Barre and Emile George Theodore Barre.

She was the youngest of seven children.

She lived in New Orleans, La. until the age of 13, then moved to Newkirk, where she graduated from high school in 1927.

In 1937, she moved to Alhambra, Calif. where she met and married her husband in 1941 and resided until 1962.

After the couples retirement in 1967, they moved to Seminole.

In 2000, she moved to the Nina Willingham Seniors Housing in Yukon.

She enjoyed playing bridge and visiting with friends at the Dale Robertson Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 51 years, Willard Harmon; one brother, Harold Barre; five sisters, Lucille Penix, Vera Cato, Marguerite Browning, Theresa Chappell and Louise Gamsjager; and one stepson, Willard "Bud" Harmon.

She is survived by a half-brother, George Barre and wife, Sherry; three half sisters, Geraldine Sager, Barbara Diewald and husband Gil, and Dorothy Kidd; many nieces and nephews, great and great nieces and nephews and many, many dear friends.

Geneva Harmon

Graveside services for Wewoka resident, Geneva B. Harmon are set for April 21, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Westwood Cemetery.

She died On April 13, 2003, at her home at the age of 89.

She was born on April 15, 1916.

She lived in Wewoka before moving to Oklahoma City when her health began to fail.

She then moved to Chicago, Ill. with her niece.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother Myrtle Washington of Wewoka.

She is survived by two nieces, Myrtle Lee of Chicago, Ill. and Jenette Allen of Alterdenea, Calif.

Services will be officiated by Rev. B.G. Renfro of Parker’s Chapel Baptist Church and under the direction of Myers Mortuary of Wewoka.

Peggy Lou Harmon

Graveside rites for lifelong Seminole County resident, Peggy Lou Harmon were scheduled for Wednesday, June 25 at 2:30 p.m. at the Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka.

She was born Sept. 6, 1939 in Wewoka to Benjamin Franklin Chesser and Ora Duley Chesser.

She died June 23, 2003, at the Okmulgee Hospital at the age of 63.

She was raised west of Wewoka, first attending Wewoka and Ong School.

She later attended high school at New Lima.

She was married to James Harmon at Wewoka and they made the Wewoka and New Lima areas their home most of their lives.

She worked at the New Lima School system as a cook.

She enjoyed collecting dolls and reading, and had been affiliated with the Gleaners Holiness Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1983; one daughter; Sarah Harmon; one granddaughter, Sarah Ferguson; and a brother, Jimmy Chesser in Feb. 2002.

Survivors include one son, James Lee Harmon of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Rhonda Garner of Oklahoma City and Mary Hicks of Seminole; four brothers, Larry, Billy and Frank Chesser of Wewoka and Benny Chesser of Hodlenville; four sisters, Maxine Nunn of Seminolek Minnie Morphis of Cromwell, Ann Morphis of Bearden and Debbie Harrison of Wewoka; 11 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Officiating the service was Rev. Larry Chesser.

Interment will follow under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home.
