Services for Donnie G. Brown were at 1 p.m. Nov. 2 in the Grant School Gymnasium in Grant. The Rev. Michael Massey officiated the ceremony. Internment followed at the Palestine Cemetery in Palestine, Texas.
Donnie G. Brown, of Grant and formerly of Paris, Texas, died Oct. 28, 2002 at Choctaw Memorial Hospital in Hugo. He was 55.
Donnie is survived by his wife, Ida Brown of Grant; three sons, Marcus Blake of Paris, Texas and Keith and Brandy Brown of Dallas; two step-sons, Orenthial McGee of Irvin, Texas and Corley McGee of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Jackie McCelland of Paris, Texas; one step-daughter, Tayjuna McGee of Grant; his mother, Willie Mae Mims of Paris, Texas; three brothers, Willie Earl Brown and James Mims of Dallas and Willie Brown, Jr. of Ft. Worth; three sisters, Charmeon Ricks and Wilma Sneed of Dallas and Patricia Mims of Paris, Texas; seven grandchildren, one aunt and a host of nieces and nephews.

Collis Jr. Barnett
Services for Collis Jr. Barnett were at 2 p.m. Nov. 3 at St. Paul Baptist Church. The Rev. Levern McFrazier officiated the ceremony. Internment followed at the Bluff Cemetery.
Collis Jr. Burnett, formerly of Bluff, died Oct. 30, 2002 in Kansas City, Mo. He was 68.
Collis is survived by his wife Estella Barnett of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister, Cornest Turner of Bluff; two aunts and a host of nieces and nephews.

Leo J. Holland
There will be no services for Leo J. Holland. He donated his body to the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City.
Leo J. Holland died Oct. 8, 2002 in Spencerville. He was 81.
Leo J. Holland was born Sept. 10, 1921 in Red Oak to Jack H. and Reba Holland.
Leo moved to Choctaw County when he was one-year-old. At the age of ten, his family moved from Messer to Spencerville, where he spent the rest of his life.

Tyrone Edward Shields
Graveside services for Tyrone Edward Shields were at 10 a.m. Oct. 11, 2002 at the Greenhill Cemetery. Brother Bob Graham officiated the ceremony.
Tyrone Edward Shields died Oct. 9, 2002 at his home in Atoka. He was 42.
Tyrone is survived by his father, C.W. Colbert and his mother, Earnestine Colbert of Atoka; one son, Jerone Shields of Wichita, Kan.; three brothers, Orlen Hill of Dallas, Clow Wesley of Los Angeles and Johnnie Colbert of Pauls Valley; seven sisters, Pam Colbert of Los Angeles, Cassandra Colbert of Los Angeles, Diane Colbert of Dallas, Carolyn Colbert of Dallas, Lisa Colbert of Atoka, Cherry Greenwood of Japan, Tanya Colbert of Tulsa, two aunts, three uncles and a host of nieces and nephews.

Jim Howser
Services for Jim Howser, of Powderly, Texas, were at 2 p.m. Oct. 12, 2002 at the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Powderly, Texas. The Rev. Tom Benton and the Rev. James Sparks officiated the ceremony. Internment followed at the Red Hill Cemetery.
The family received friends from 7-8 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Mt. Olive Funeral Chapel in Hugo.
Jim Howser died Oct. 8, 2002 in Paris, Texas. He was 68.
Jim Howser was born May 7, 1934 in Lone Grove to Ray John and Sally Birdie Mae (Wilson) Howser. He married Norma Mason June 21, 1954 in San Diego.
Jim was in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict. He worked as a furniture manufacturer and carpenter.
He moved from California to the Powderly area about 28 years ago. He owned and operated a roofing business for the past 28 years in Powderly.
He was active for many years in karate, earning an 8th degree black belt in Shinpuren-Kempo Karate; brown belt in Judo and was a Gold Gloves boxing champion.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one step-sister Pauline Jedke.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Howser of Powderly, one son and daughter in law, Jim & Pamela Howser of Arthur City, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Norma & Tom Benton of Irvine, Calif., Kathy and Steven Kennard of Houston; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul & Barbara Howser of Hugo, Abe & Esteen Howser of Hugo, Robert & Jeri Howser of Hugo and Bill Howser of Morgan City, Calif.; one sister, Caroline Howser of Oklahoma City; step-brothers and sisters, Georgia & J.D. Elliott of Hot Springs, Ark., David & Jean Wilson of Yuma, Ariz., Benny & Emma Wilson of Brownsville, Texas, Donald Wilson of Oklahoma and Larry & Janelle Wilson of Hugo; grandsons Aaron Benton, Jesse Benton and Cory Howser; granddaughters Jodie Benton Cruz, Leah Kennard, Stephanie Kennard, Kari Kennard Hale and Sara Howser and 5 great-grandchildren.

James Parnell
Services for James Parnell were at 4 p.m. Sept. 24 at Christ United Methodist Church in Fort Collins, Colo. A private family internment followed Sept. 25.
James O. Parnell, formerly of Hugo, died suddenly in his home the morning of Sept. 19 in Fort Collins, Colo. because of complications arising from an aortic aneurysm.
James was born March 19, 1939 in Hugo to James robert and hazel May Norwood Parnell.
James studied for his undergraduate and master’s degrees at the University of Oklahoma.
He received his doctorate of education from the University of Wyoming in December of 1981.
James was a highly respected professor at Colorado State University. he spent 31 years as a full professor in the manufacturing technology and construction management department. At the time of his death he was working as a professor on transitional retirement after his official retirement in 2001.
His professional and personal achievements span a lifetime dedicated to his family, church, students, peers, community and friends. His lengthy list of accolades includes his significant contributions as chairman of the College Curriculum Committee at Colorado State University from 1979-1991. The Home Builder’s Institute, the education arm of that National Home Builders, also recognized him as the outstanding educator in a four year program for the 1990-1991 school year.
James served Colorado State University as the president elect and president of the Colorado Industrial Arts Association from 1976-1978. He served as president of the University Club from 19941995. his dedication to his church included service on the board of trustees.
James loved the outdoors and spent many joyous hours with his family and friends. He enjoyed skiing in the Colorado high country, spent time fishing in Canada and traveled the United States and abroad. he found hours of enjoyment as a radio controlled airplane enthusiast and served as the president of the Love-Air R/C club. member of Rocky Mountain Modeleers and South Park Area Radio Control Society. He was a skilled craftsman and enjoyed the challenges of building and flying his own radio controlled aircraft.
James was preceded in death by his father, James Robert Parnell and his first wife, Nerena Janette Thomas Parnell.
James is survived by his wife, Janet Ann Folta Parnell of Fort Collins, Colo.; two daughters, Jana Archuleta and her husband Dave of Fort Collins, Colo. and Erin Dwyer and her husband Bill of Portland, Ore.; one brother, Lynn Parnell and his wife Aileen who are both teachers in the Hugo schools; two nieces, Jennifer Davis and Husband Jared of Paris, Texas and Leah Williams and husband Robert of Hugo; stepchildren Debbie Tamez of Greely, Colo. Dean Jensen of Fort Morgan, Colo., Sean Jensen of Fort Collins, Colo. and Julie Jensen of Aurora, Colo.; grandchildren Genevieve and Danae Archuleta and from his extended family, Ryan Jensen, Steven Lopez and Tanya Tamez and two great-grandchildren.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Christ United Methodist Church Building Fund.
