Funeral services for Pauline Puckett Jones, mother of Wewoka residents, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22 at Midway Baptist church with Rev. Phillip Mullins officiating.
Interment will follow at Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home of Holdenville.
She died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, at the age of 84.
She was born April 24, 1919, in Okfuskee County to Martin Puckett and Ollie Black Puckett.
Jones was raised in Okfuskee and Hughes Counties and attended several rural schools.
She married Woodrow L. Jones on Jan. 18, 1941, in Ft. Smith, Ark., but remained in the Hughes County area.
She retired from Wewoka Schools where she worked many years as a cook in the cafeteria.
She was a very active citizen.
She served as a "Pink Lady" for the Holdenville General Hospital and was a longtime member of Midway Baptist Church.
In her spare time she enjoyed traveling, attending water aerobic classes, reading her Bible and sharing her life with her grandchildren.
The family always enjoyed a home cooked meal when they visited.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Woodrow; one daughter, Mary Conn; two brothers, Dale and Dean Puckett; and one grandson, Eric Jason Jones.
She is survived by her daughter, Marchetta Black of Wewoka, sons, Mark Jones of Wewoka and Eddie Jones of Broken Arrow; brothers, Marvin Puckett of Stroud, Ray Puckett of Tulsa, Allen Puckett of Holdenville and Wayne Puckett of Enid; one sister, Lela Kirkland of Hugoton, Kan.; ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Steven Jones
Funeral services for former Sasakwa resident Steven Ray Jones, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Assembly of God Church in Sasakwa.
Brother Wesley Martin will officiate.
Interment will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery, under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home of Wewoka.
Jones died Monday, June 23, 2003 at his home in Visalia, Calif., following a brief courageous battle with cancer at the age of 50.
He was born to Woodrow Jones and Lorene (Crosby) Jones on Aug. 5, 1952 in Sasakwa.
Jones grew up in the Sasakwa area, and graduated from Sasakwa High School in 1970.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War, and was honorably discharged in 1971.
Jones married Ruby Alexander in Springville, Calif., and the couple made their home in Visalia, Calif., until his passing.
During his life, Jones was a security guard with Triple A Security Services.
Jones is survived by his wife, Ruby, of the home; five children, Eric Jones, Lawton, Holly Knizley, Pearl River, La., Zachary Jones, Holdenville, Carla Clifton, Sallisaw, and Andy Gomez, Visalia, Calif.; two brothers, Robert Jones, Spring, Texas, and Ronald Jones, Seminole; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lenora Lorene Crosby Jones on April 3, 1959; his step-mother, Ollie Whisenhunt Jones in 1986; his father, Woodrow, on Jan. 19, 1999; one brother, Jimmy Leon Jones on July 30, 1999; and his aunt, Helen Crosby Thornton.
Pallbearers will be Robert Jones, Ronnie Jones, Bobby Parker, Billy Clifton, Brad Driver, and Keith Byerly.
Honorary bearers are Tyler Clifton, and Edward Ballard.
The Chickasaw Nation Honor Color Guard will perform the Flag Ceremony.
William Joseph Jr.
Funeral services for William (Joe) Joseph, Jr., brother of Seminole resident Elizabeth Hogan, are scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003 at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel in Dallas, Texas.
Interment will follow at the Nacona City Cemetery in Nacona, Texas, under the direction of Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
Joseph died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003 at his home in Dallas.
He was born to Nelle Priddy Mosley and William Joseph, Sr., on Jan. 21, 1944 in Wichita Falls, Texas.
A 1962 graduate of Ruidoso High School, Joseph earned his B.A. at Texas Tech, and his M.A. at the University of Arkansas.
A college professor, he taught in West Virgina and at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Since 1974, Joseph has taught at Richland College in Dallas.
Joseph loved cats, books, geneology, opera and the Sidekicks.
He was an active member of the Democratic Party, and past treasurer of the Lesbian/Gay Political Coalition of Dallas.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Shirley Sue Mosley.
He is survived by his sister, Gem Elizabeth Hogan, Seminole, one nephew, Richard Hogan and one niece, Lisa Hogan Campbell.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Joseph’s name to the National Trust for Historic Preservation Society.
Thomas Joyner
Graveside services for lifelong Seminole resident, Thomas Edward Joyner are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30 at the Little Cemetery, with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
Joyner died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, at the age of 70 at Seminole Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 6, 1932, in Eufaula to James Otis Joyner and Maggie Leona (Slay) Joyner.
He was married to Donnie (Walker) Joyner on Nov. 21, 1957, in Seminole.
Joyner was retired from Ford Tool in Perryton, Texas in 1977 after 16 years of services.
He moved to Seminole in 1978 to start his own business, Black Top Value.
He attended school in Vamoosa and was a Veteran of the U. S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and his oldest son, Charles Joyner on April 1, 1996.
He is survived by his spouse, Donnie June Joyner, of the home; two sons, Thomas E. Joyner of Hawaii and Clint Joyner of the home; three daughters, Kim Hubbard of San Antonio, Texas, Shirley Madden of Sterling, Kan. and Debbie Davis of Sterling, Kan.; three brothers, Vaughn Joyner of Perryton, Tx., Roy Joyner of Henryetta and J.O. Joyner of Hennessey; five sisters, Jane Mathews of Seminole, Stella Brown of Cromwell, Shirley Meeks of Davis, Mary Alice Ramsey of Stillwater and Sue Garner of Arizona; 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Casket bearers are Thomas Joyner, Clint Joyner, Grant Smith, Gary Anderson and Eric Anderson.
Lula Mae Harjo Kaney
Lula Mae Harjo Kaney, a longtime Seminole County resident, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2003, at Integris Hospital in Oklahoma City.
She had lived in Maud for many years until moving to Seminole Estates.
Mrs. Kaney was born on Aug. 18, 1927, in Hughes County to Johnnie Harjo and Elmina McPerryman Harjo.
She married James Kaney Sr. on Jan. 9, 1950. They had six children.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed making quilts, gardening, listening to and singing Native American hymns.
She was a Seminole Nation tribal member and a member of the Sand Creek Eufaula Church.
Mrs. Kaney was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Kaney Sr. in 1978; one infant son, Henry Willie Kaney; one daughter, Joyce Kaye Fixico; two brothers, Leslie and Cecil Harjo; two sisters, Imogene Harjo Tobias and Angela Harjo, who died as an infant; one grandson, Micco James Coody; son-in-law Roger Felson; and a special friend, A.B. Harjo.
Survivors include two daughters, Elmina Kaney Felson and Faye Kaney Coody, both of Seminole; two sons, Leonard and James Kaney Jr., both of Seminole; one brother, Charlie D. Harjo of Wewoka; and one brother-in-law, Edmond Harjo of Ada.
She is also survived by six grandchildren, Kyle Coody, Devene Felson, Wenayv and Leslie Fixico, all of Seminole; Leighton Felson and Winona Felson Lamb of California; and two great-grandchildren, Kyleigh Fixico and Gavin Hill, both of Seminole.
Wake services are planned for 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Faye Coody’s home.
At 6 p.m. Monday, a wake service is planned at Swearingen Funeral Home chapel.
Mrs. Kaney will lie in state at the funeral home until Tuesday; she will be moved at 3 p.m. to Sand Creek Eufaula Church in Wewoka for an all-night wake service.
Funeral service is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday July 30 at Sand Creek Eufaula Church, with burial at High Springs Cemetery in Konawa.
Rev. Houston Tiger and Rev. Edward Bear will officiate.
Services will be under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
Pallbearers will include Leighton Felson, Henry Factor, Clifford Harjo, Douglas Meashintubby, Bobby Lena and Kelly Fixico.
Honorary pallbearers will include Matthew Meashintubby, Floyd Johnson, Charles Little, James Galbreath, Randy Harjo, Tommy Walters and Dr. Gary D. Bond.
Debra Lynn (Cummings) Kay
Funeral services for former Seminole resident, Debra Lynn (Cummings) Kay are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31 at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Harry Smith officiating.
Public viewing will be held at Havenbrook Funeral Home from Wednesday, Oct. 29 through Thursday, Oct. 30.
Services are under the direction of Havenbrook funeral Home of Norman.
Kay died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at the age of 44 in Norman.
She was born in Seminole to Chuck and Joyce Cummings and lived in Seminole for a year and a half.
She then moved to Albuquerque, N.M. until she was 14.
She then moved back to Seminole to live with her Aunt Carole and Uncle Jim Robertson.
She attended Seminole High School and then moved to Tulsa where she met and married Tim Kay.
They were married on April 29, 1979, for 24 wonderful years.
She served as governess for Bob and Cyndi Beam’s four children while in Tulsa until 1986, when she moved to Norman.
Kay graduated from the Moore/Norman Technology Center LPN program with honors in 1988.
She then worked at Riveroaks Nursing Home and Rivermont Retirement Center in Norman.
She was a homemaker for the last five years on her acreage near Lake Thunderbird.
She enjoyed swimming, camping, fishing, gardening, children animals and shopping.
She also enjoyed time with her nieces and nephew, Sean and Melissa Livingston and Kristin and Melissa Simon.
She is survived by her husband, Tim of the home, father, Chuck Cummings and wife Doris; mother, Joyce Parker and husband Don; sister Kim Livingston and husband Greg; and her brother, Chris Cummings, all of Albuquerque, N.M.; and her baby putty, Spirit of the home.
