Kathryn Moss

Funeral services for former Seminole County resident, Kathryn Ann Moss of Cromwell, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Cromwell under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

She died on May 20, 2003, at the age of 59, at the Unity Health Center North.

She was born on July 24, 1943, in Elizabeth, New Jersey to George Buckley and Kathryn Ann (Burke) Buckley and raised in Morgan City, La.

She married Sydney Ray Matthews in 1964, who preceded her in death in 1971.

She married Thomas A. Moss on January 21, 1995 in Oklahoma City.

She was a registered nurse for a group of doctors in Shawnee.

She graduated from Morgan City High School in 1963 and Northwestern University of Lafayette, La.

She was an OU fan, enjoyed flowers, family, friends, animals and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas A. Moss of the home; one son, G. Michael Matthews of Dallas, Texas; two step-sons, Larry D. Moss of Broken Arrow and Danny T. Moss of Noble; one daughter, Mary Kathryn Matthews of Oklahoma City; two step-daughters, Cathy Hudson of Washington and Tamera Erickson of Richardson, Texas; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Honorary bearers are Michael Matthews, Travis Beckel, Arthur Osborn, Gene Coates and Kenneth Sapp.

Officiating the service will be Rev. Carl Whitfield.

Father Timothy Fuller of St. Matthews Catholic Church in Elk City will officiate at the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made tot he Oklahoma Heart Association.

Beola Mullen

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident, Beola Lee (McMillan) Mullen were scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25 at the Swearingen Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Hammons officiating.

Interment followed at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Mullen died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at the age of 92 in Seminole Medical Center.

She was born Dec. 22, 1910, in Wardville to Olan McMillan and Bertie (Denny) McMillan.

She married Ernest L. Mullen on May 9, 1932 in Coalgate.

She attended East Central University after graduation from high school.

She worked at Newton Wall’s for 21 years as bookkeeper.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seminole where she was saved as a teenager.

She has worked in the children’s Sunday school department for over 60 years.

She enjoyed arts, crafts, cooking and sewing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest in 1988; and one brother, Thea McMillan in 1998.

She is survived by two sons, Don Mullen of Seminole and Kent Mullen of Tecumseh; one brother, Keith McMillan of Lehigh; one sister, Eileen Ronald of Coalgate; two grandsons; and three great grandchildren.

Casket bearers were J.P. "Doc" Duvall, D.C. Neal, Max Swanson, Johnny Meeks, Tim Poplin, and Richard Northcott.

Gladys Mullen

Graveside services for lifelong Seminole County resident, Gladys Mullen are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept 8 at the Wolf Cemetery, south of Seminole, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Rev. Allen Wood will officiate.

The casket will be open for viewing at the Swearingen Funeral Home until 9 a.m. Monday.

It will be closed and not re-opened.

She died Sept. 5, 2003, at the age of 62 at Seminole Medical Center, Seminole.

She was born June 14, 1941, in Seminole to Leroy Richards and Wanda (Brown) Richards.

She was married to Gerald Eugene "Gene" Mullen on June 10, 1960 in Wolf.

He preceded her in death.

She was retired from Tinker Air Force Base after 20 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wolf.

She loved her grandchildren, gardening and quilting.

She was preceded in death by her father, husband and son, Gerald Dewayne "Jerry" Mullen.

She is survived by her mother, Wanda Richards of Jenks; two daughters, Melissa Marquis and Teresa Anson, both of Seminole; three sisters, Betty Richards and Barbara Burleson, both of Jenks and Georgia Mullen of Konawa; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren.

Vernon Eugene Mullen

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident, Vernon Eugene Mullen, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, July 14 at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel.

He died July 11, 2003, at the age of 88 in Seminole.

He was born May 27, 1915 in Maud to D.M. Mullen and Myrtle (May) Mullen.

He was married to Lela Jo (Prickett) Mullen on Aug. 20, 1939.

He was a former school teacher and coached football, basketball and track at Ada, Seminole and Bowlegs.

He was also principal at Bowlegs and in 1952 he opened his own business ‘Vernon Mullen Insurance Agency’ as Mid-Continent life insurance agent in Seminole.

He retired after 50 years.

He received his BA and Masters in Business Education from Oklahoma University, where he also received honorable mention as All American basketball player.

He was also on the very first Final Four Basketball Team at OU and a member of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seminole where he served as a deacon, past president of the Seminole Kiwanis Club, the National Life Underwriters Association and the OU Business Club Alumni..

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lela Jo on Dec. 26, 1992; and one brother, Ernest Mullen.

He is survived by three sons, Larry Mullen of Seminole, David Mullen of Blanchard and Paul Mullen of Stillwater; two brothers, Ray Mullen of Sun City, Ariz. and Clarence Mullen of Owasso; a special friend, Gwyn White of Seminole; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and one great-great grand child.

Honorary Casket Bearers are Dr. Ron White, Phillip Parks, Wayne Pester, Dr. David Boren, James White, Gail Pair, Winford Matthews and Dr. Paul Dichter.

Honorary Casket bearers also include Doers Sunday School Class, Deacons at the First Baptist Church of Seminole and all the staff at Pioneer Nursing Home, Seminole.

Services will be officiated by Rev. Russell Vickars.

Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Alma Mullinax

No services are planned for longtime Wewoka resident Alma Joyce Mullinax.

Burial is to be in Holdenville.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Mullinax died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003 at Wewoka Nursing Center at the age of 75.

She was born Aug. 7, 1927 in Okemah to Richard and Lillie (Lawrence) Edmunds.

She married Lonnie Joe Mullinax on June 12, 1949 in Holdenville. He preceded her in death on June 19, 2002.

Mullinax worked in home daycare.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

She is survived by one son, Larry Mullinax of Norman; one daughter, Linda O’Donnell of Bixby; two brothers, Wayne Edmunds of Big Cabin and Doyle Edmunds of Hollister; one sister, Vera DeShazer of Richardson, Texas; and three grandchildren.

R.D. ‘Baby’ Murray

Funeral services for R.D. ‘Baby’ Murray are set for April 12 at 1 p.m. at the Macedonia Baptist Church in Wewoka, with Rev. Elmer Jones of St. Joseph Baptist Church officiating.

Murray died April 9, 2003 at the age of 97 at home in Norman.

He was born on October 4, 1905 in Louisiana to William and Era (Spikes) Murray and moved to Seminole County where he lived for 95 years, until his health began to fail and moved to Norman to be close to family.

He first married Eelta Mae King and to this union, six children were born, three sons and two daughters preceded him in death.

In 1946 he married Pinkie Mae Foster, and to this union six children were born, with one daughter, Pearl Lavon preceding him in death.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, George Murray, James Murray, and Buster Foxworth.

He joined St. Joseph Baptist Church at an early age.

Later, he was ordained as a deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Church treasurer and also held several positions with the Southwest Creek district.

He was active in his church until his health began to fail and he and his wife moved to Norman.

He attended the Johnson Grove School.

He is survived by his wife, Pinky M. Murray of the home, five daughters, Barbara Elliott of San Diego, Calif, , Juanita Beaty of Brooklyn, N.Y., Patricia Griffis of Norman, Carletha Kitt of Columbia S.C., and Vanessa Jernigan of Edmond; two sons, Rodney Simon of Rocklin, Calif. and William J. Murray of Los Angeles, Calif.; one brother, Andrew Murray of Idabell one sister, Pinky Oliver of Cochran, Calif.; a host of grand children and great-grandchildren and a loving caregiver, Laurie Wright.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Braxton, Jr., Dewan Keesee, Jeffrey Keesee, James Griffis, Al Jernigan and Carzell Brown.

Honorary Pallbearers are Rodney Simon, William J. Murray, W.C. Miller, Bernard Beaty, Harold O’Guinn, Haywood Griffis, Johnny Gloston, Clyde Spencer, Eddie Smith and Robert Richmond.

Burial will be at Westwood Cemetery under the direction of Myers Mortuary.
