L.A. Patterson

Funeral services for L.A. "Pat" Patterson of Asher are scheduled for Monday at 2 p.m. at the Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Chapel.

Patterson died on April 3, 2003 at the age of 90 at Seminole Medical Center.

He was born on January 31, 1913 in Allen to Mace Patterson and Julia May (Shores) Patterson.

He was married to Lela F. Bottom on March 23, 1932 in Hobart, Oklahoma.

He was a retired dairy farmer and rancher

He attended Asher Assembly of God Church, served on Asher Board of Education, and ran for Pottawatomie County Commissioner.

He loved music, singing, songwriting and horses.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lela F. Patterson (October 10, 2002); four brothers, L.M. "Big Pat" Patterson, L.D. "Little Pat" Patterson, and two infant brothers; and one sister, LaNore Craft.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, C. Lynn and Betty L. Patterson of Konawas; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen D. and Eugene "Sonny" O’Dell, Jr. of Asher; 10 grandchildren, Jeffrey and Julia O’Dell, Deriek and Angela Patterson, Denise and Kevin Bell, Sherita and Don Robertson, and Gina and William Lee; 13 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Opal Lee Bottom of Gotebo and Lawatha Craft of Shawnee.

Rev. Doyle Long will be officiating.

Casket Bearers will be Jeffrey O’Dell, Deriek Patterson, Don Robertson, Kevin Bell, William Lee and Andrew Bell.

Interment will follow to Vista Cemetery under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.

Leta E. Patterson

Funeral services for life long Seminole County resident Leta E. Patterson are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church.

Dr. Kelvin Moseley is set to officiate.

Internment is to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Patterson died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003 at McLoud Nursing Center.

She was born Oct. 2, 1909 in Maud to Oscar Wood and Della Wood.

She graduated from Maud High School in 1927 where she was the class valedictorian.

In 1928 she married Ruben Odis "Pat" Patterson in Oklahoma City.

In addition to being a homemaker, she owned, managed and cooked at several restaurants, including Pat’s Café. She also worked with her husband in his business, Pat’s Used Cars, as bookkeeper. They both retired in 1969.

Patterson was a longtime member at the First Baptist Church in Seminole where she had been president and Outreach Leader for the Lydia Sunday School Class for many years.

She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Bob and Ann Patterson of Shawnee and William "Bill" Ray Patterson of Tulsa; nine grandchildren, Pam Nicholson of Allen, Texas; Rick Patterson of Ft. Worth, Texas; Lisa Kutait of Little Rock, Ark.; LuAnn Nystrom of Lawrence, Kan.; Lauri Culver of Edmond; Karen Brunet, Debbie Wagner, Jeff Brunet, all of Anaheim, Calif. and Tonya Patterson of Tulsa; 14 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews including D.D. and Molly Patterson of Seminole.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband "Pat" Patterson on June 21, 1975; three sisters; one brother, and daughter, Donna Brunet.

Juanita Pauley

Memorial services for Seminole resident Juanita L. (Burris) Pauley, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Livingwater Church of God in Gates, Ore.

Services will be under the direction of Weddle Funeral Home of Stayton, Ore.

Pauley died Friday, June 13, 2003 at the age of 71.

She was born to Lester and Effie Lena (Morris) Burris on Aug. 2, 1931 in Clovis, N.M.

Pauley lived most of her life in the Willamette Valley region of Oregon, and attended Shedd Schools.

She and her husband, Jimmie Pauley, moved to Seminole in 2001.

The couple were both cross-country truck drivers, and Pauley later worked as a waitress for 25 years.

She enjoyed camping, fishing, and crocheting, and upon her death, donated her body to medical science.

Pauley was preceded in death by five children; her parents; her stepmother; and two brothers, Kenneth Burris in 1972, and Del Burris in 1983.

She is survived by her husband, Jimmie and three daughters, Debbie, Marie Gomez, and Sandy Pellet, all of Oregon; one brother, Dale Burris, Albany, N.Y.; two sisters, Rosa Lee Dunshee of Oregon, and Ladell Bradley of California; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Carol Sue Pearson

Private funeral services for Seminole resident, Carol Sue (Baker) Pearson have been scheduled under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

She died July 23, 2003, at the age of 43 at Seminole Medical Center, Seminole.

She was born May 3, 1960, in Shawnee to Billy Ray and Barbara Sue (Williams) Baker.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Seminole.

She was preceded in death by her father, Billy Ray Baker in the mid 1980s; and her mother, Barbara Sue Baker of Columbia, Tenn.

She is survived by one daughter, Amy Villa of Mangum; two sisters, Brenda Underwood of Columbia, Tenn. and Penny Staley of Bloomfield, N.M.; two brothers, Bobby Dill of Seminole and William Baker of Dallas, Texas; and two grandchildren.

Family requests no flowers but donations can be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 310, Seminole 74868.

Cliff Pearson

Cliff Pearson, 59, died in his home Tuesday, April 1, 2003, in the company of his three children, Doug Pearson, Seminole; Deby Hays, Okemah; and Jenny Frazier, Seminole.

Cliff managed Sharpe’s Department Store in Seminole for 15 years, and was a member of Kiwanis.

At his request, there will be no services.

Joe H. Peavler

Graveside services, with full military honors, for longtime Seminole County resident, Joe H. Peavler are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12 at the Tecumseh Mission Cemetery in Tecumseh.

Officiating will be Rev. Gene Teel.

Interment will be in the Tecumseh Mission Cemetery under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home of Maud.

He died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at the age of 90 at Sunset Estates Care Center in Maud.

He was born Sept. 19, 1912, in Morris to Curtis Ray and Laura Alice (Hall) Peavler.

He moved to Hoover City, north of Maud, as a boy during the oil boom.

He was married to Alverta (Thomas) Peavler in 1933 near Pearson.

He worked in the oilfield until he said he retired at the age of 75 and then went to work for O’Daniel Mud Pit until last summer.

He was a veteran and served in the Marines during World War II.

He was a member of the Maud Masonic Lodge and was also a Past Patron of Eastern Star.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alverta Peavler in 1996; three brothers, Harold, Jiggs and Coy Peavler; three sisters, Imogene Thomas, Ethel Biggs and Beulah Morrissey.

He is survived by one son, Jerry Peavler of St. Louis; one daughter, Janet Tampleton of Maud; a nephew; one sister, Betty of Moore; six grandchildren and two great grandsons.

Peck, Dwight Lee

Dwight Lee Peck, 87, of Norman died Sunday, May 25, 2003 at Norman Regional Hospital.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Goodrich Memorial Methodist Church with Dr. Marvin Hudson officiating.

Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home.

He was born on June 30, 1915 in Fanshawe Oklahoma, to Henry L. and Mary Smith Peck.

He grew up in LeFlore County, OK and in 1934 was graduated from Howe Public Schools.

In 1939 he graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Agriculture.

From 1939 to 1942 he and his wife taught school in the LeFlore County School District.

In 1942 he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he received his basic training at the U.S. Naval Hospital in San Diego, CA.

His next assignment was to the Farragut Naval Hospital Corps School at Farragut Naval Base, Idaho, where as a member of the faculty he taught basic medical courses such as anatomy and physiology to future Naval Medical Corpsmen from 1943 to 1945.

Upon reaching the rank of Pharmacist First Class, he also served as a company commander.

After being honorably discharged in October of 1945, he and his wife moved to McAlester where he was a public health officer.

In July of 1946 he accepted a Vocational Agriculture teaching position with the Calvin Public Schools.

During his 16 years at Calvin, in addition to his teaching responsibilities, he was the advisor for the Future Farmers of America, junior and senior class sponsor, organized a volunteer fire department and was active in many community projects.

He also completed the requirements for a Master of Science in Agriculture Education from Oklahoma State University in 1952.

Peck left teaching in 1961 for employment with the Farmer's Home Administration.

After working with the FHA for several months, he transferred to the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

He was an Employment Assistance Officer for 19 years with the Seminole Indian Agency in Wewoka, until his retirement in 1981.

He and his wife moved to Wewoka in 1966 where they were active in several community organizations.

He especially enjoyed his involvement in the Wewoka Kiwanis and Lions Clubs and the weekly Men's Prayer Breakfast.

In 1998, Peck and his wife moved to Norman to be near family.

He was a member of the Goodrich Memorial Methodist Church, the Goodrich Chronologically Gifted group, the Cleveland County Retired Teachers Association and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Freda; grandson, Robert D. Reynolds; sister, Dixie Mae Peck and brother, Ralph S. Peck

He is survived by his daughter, Cecelia and her husband Bob Reynolds of Norman; granddaughter, Christie Reynolds of Moore; brother, Joe. D. Peck and his wife, Linda of Maryville, TN; sister-in-law, Geraldine Peck of Norman; and several nieces and nephews.
