Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Freda M. Allen Peck, were held Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at the Goodrich Memorial Methodist Church in Norman.
Dr. Marvin Hudson officiated.
Burial followed at the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Norman, under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
Freda passed away Saturday, May 3, 2003 at Brookhaven Extensive Car in Norman at the age of 84.
She was born to M.C. and Mattie Folsom Allen on Feb. 17, 1919 in Muldrow.
Freda grew up in Sequoyah County and attended Muldrow Public Schools.
In 1938, she graduated from Northeastern State University at Tahlequah.
She had additional credits from the University of Oklahoma, East Central State University, and Colorado State University.
On June 30, 1939, Freda married Dwight L. Peck in Ft. Smith, Ark.
They were both public school teachers for two years until their teaching career was interrupted by World War I.
The couple spent time in San Diego, Calif., and later were transferred to Farragut Naval Base in Farragut Ind., where they resided for three years.
Freda worked in the Department of Human Resources as Director of Civilian Personnel.
At the end of the war, she returned to her teaching profession in Oklahoma.
She taught three years in the Sequoyah County Schools, three years in Leflore County Schools, and 29 years with Calvin Public Schools in Hughes County.
While teaching at Calvin, she taught various grades in elementary school and also served as grade school principal.
Freda also served as president of the Hughes County Education Association.
In 1975, Freda was named Teacher of the Year for Hughes County.
She was a member of the order of the Eastern Star and was presented with a 50-year membership certificate in 2001.
After her retirement, Freda did volunteer work in the Seminole Indian Nation Museum and was active in her church and other organizations while living in Wewoka.
In 1998, Freda and her husband moved to Norman to be near their family.
She was a member of the Goodrich Memorial Methodist Church, the Cleveland County Retired Teachers Association, and the Goodrich Chronologically Gifted Group.
Survivors include her husband, Dwight; a daughter, Cecelia, and son-in-law Bob Reynolds of Norman; one granddaughter, Christie Reynolds, Moore; one brother and sister-in-law, Louis and Bea Allen, Muldrow, and Oleta Schubert, Rockaway, N.J.; and sister-in-law, Jessie Allen, Dewar.
Freda was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Robert Reynolds; and one brother, A.R. Allen.
Sue Perryman
Graveside services for former Seminole resident, Sue Perryman, were held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Little Cemetery.
She died June 6, 2003, at the age of 56 at Unity North Hospital in Shawnee.
She was born on February 9, 1947 in Seminole to Lorene Vaughn Burkhart.
She was married to James R. Perryman on June 3, 1963 in Van Buren, Ark., who preceded her in death.
She moved to Shawnee six years ago.
She was a church nursery worker.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lorene Burkhart and her husband, James R. Perryman on March 11, 1997.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth Perryman of Earlsboro; her daughter, Ronda R. Perryman of Shawnee; one sister, Louise Burkhart of Cedarville, Ark; and two grandchildren.
Gloria Petty
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Gloria Dean Petty were held Monday, Oct. 13, 2003 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.
Rev. Steve Cline officiated the services.
Burial followed at Little Cemetery, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Petty died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003 at Unity Health North in Shawnee at the age of 77.
She was born to William Frederick Lambert and Billie Mae (Sneed) Lambert on April 21, 1926 in Boswell.
Petty married William Tyson Petty on July 29, 1953 in Seminole.
She was a Seminole resident for 15 years moving here from Tulsa.
Petty worked as a mail clerk in Tulsa and was retired.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, William Tyson Petty on Sept. 11, 1996.
Petty is survived by four sons, Jon-E Tyson Petty, Amarillo, Texas, Michael Dean Petty, Marlow, Mark Douglas Petty, Tulsa and Patrick Paul Petty, Seminole; and four daughters, Norma Wells, Cookson, Donna Blankenship, Seminole, Laura Lou Turcotte, Oklahoma City and Shelley Denise Trammell, Seminole.
Mary Ann Collier
Funeral services for Seminole native, Mary Ann (Winn) Ross Collier of Shawnee, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22 at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Prague with Rev. Doyle Loveland officiating.
Interment will follow at Little Cemetery, north of Seminole, under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
She died Nov 20, 2003, at the age of 72 in Shawnee.
She was born Nov. 6, 1931, in Seminole to Clarence and Mary Ann (White) Winn.
Collier graduated from Varnum High School and lived most of her life in Seminole, Pottawatomie and Okfuskee counties.
She enjoyed and quilting.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Bobby Ross, five brothers, Abe, Jack, Sam, Neil and Cletus Winn; and two sisters, Hazel Meyer and Juanita Sutton.
She is survived by her husband, Clarence Collier of the home; two sons Roger Ross of Paden and Sherman Ross of Harrah; one daughter, Vickie Caldwell of Shawnee; three brothers, Ben Winn and Wayne Winn of Seminole and J.D. Winn of Macks Creek, Mo.; three sisters, Madge Riddle of Independence, Mo., Colleen Ess of Dalton, Mo. and Zelda Stewart of Shawnee; seven grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren, as well as many other close family members and friends.
Bill Sutton
Funeral services were held for former Seminole County resident, Bill Sutton on Dec. 10 in Edmond at the Baggerly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wally Weavor, pastor of the Henderson Hills Baptist Church officiating.
Interment was at Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond.
Sutton died Dec. 7, 2003, at the age of 74 at Edmond Memorial Hospital in Edmond.
He was born June 1, 1929, in Morris, the youngest of ten children born to Jesse and Alma Sutton.
He moved to the Konawa area with his family in 1938. He attended school at Vamoosa and graduated with the class of 1947.
Sutton married Lillie Norman on Sept. 7, 1948 and to this union was born two sons and one daughter.
On Sept 29, 1962, he married Leta Birdwell.
He worked in the Seminole oil fields and later spent many years as a long haul trucker.
Sutton was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Earnest, Arnon and Clyde Sutton; two sisters, Clarice Rigdon and Mamie Sutton; and his first wife, Lillie Norman Sutton.
He is survived by his wife, Leta of the home in Edmond, one daughter, Jeanie Lutton of Tulsa; two sons, Tony and Raymond Sutton of Bartlesville; two step-sons, Leo and Thomas of Edmond; two brothers, Carl Sutton of Konawa and Walter Sutton of Seminole and two sisters, Lorena Carter of Konawa and Leola Scott of Tucson, Ariz.
Jeffrey Beggs
Graveside funeral services for Jeffrey Lee Beggs, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Sept, 26, 2003, at Oakwood Cemetery, Wewoka with Anthony Wood officiating, under the direction of the Stout-Phillips Funeral Home of Wewoka.
Beggs died on Sunday, September 21, 2003, at the age of 43 at Jacksonville, Florida.
He was born on May 30, 1960, in Laguna Beach, California to Don and Ginger Henderson Beggs.
He attended school at Douglas Schools in Oklahoma City. and was reared in the Oklahoma City area.
He has lived in the Jacksonville, Florida since 1992, where he was a carpenter and cabinet maker.
Beggs was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by, two sisters Donna Beggs Robertson, Gigi Beggs Martin both of Wewoka, one niece Heather Robertson of Wewoka, and special friend Celeste Sweet of Jacksonville, Florida and other relatives and friends.
Heather Phillips
Heather Dawn Phillips, infant Wewoka resident, died April 6, 2003, at OU Children’s Memorial Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 11 months.
She was born on April 16, 2002 in Seminole to James Phillips and Cheryl Ann Lewis Phillips.
She is survived by her parents of the home; her siblings Gabrielle Lewis of California, Angela Sue Phillips of Missouri, James Phillips III, Lance Ethan Phillips and Robert Wayne Phillips of the home; Grandparents, James and Pauline Phillips of Wewoka and Joseph and Patricia Lewis of California; great- grandmothers, Betty Whitman of California and Betty Morris of Idaho; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at Macedonia Baptist Church of Wewoka on Friday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Willie A Reynolds Sr. officiating.
Interment will follow to Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home of Wewoka.
Pallbearers will be Kad’trix Grayson, Micah Pansokey, Nathaniel Perry and James Phillips III.
Cleo ‘Kido’ Pierce
Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Cleo "Kido" Ralph Pierce are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Rev. Larry Chesser is set to officiate.
Interment is to follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Pierce died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002 at the age of 84.
He had been residing in the Veterans Center in Clinton.
He was born March 4, 1918 in Gotebo to John William Pierce and Ella Mae Summers.
Pierce grew up in Seminole County and attended Ong School.
He enlisted in the United States Army during the beginning of World War II and fought and served from June 1943 through September 1945 in the Rome-Arno Rhineland Campaign, Central Europe Campaign, and Naples-Foggia, Southern France/ Sicily Campaign.
He married Drebbie Pope on Nov. 24, 1951.
He is survived by his daughter, Jean Hay of Cheyenne; his sister, Helen Williams of Wichita, Kans.; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Dee Hay, Richard Estep, Jeff Davis, Jeremy Moler, Ryan Nalley, and Charles Williams.
