Graveside services for native Seminole resident, Dorothy Mildred Purdum are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at the Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
She died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at the age of 83 in the Select Specialty Hospital in Oklahoma City.
She was born Aug. 3, 1920, in Seminole to James and Tesie Hill.
She grew up on her parent’s dairy farm near Varnum.
She was married to Frances Purdum, who preceded her in death.
She graduated from Varnum High School in Seminole.
She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone and later retired from Tinker Air Force Base.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Marsha Purdum of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Donald Purdum Jr. and Eric Purdum of Dallas, Texas, Michael Purdum of Edmond, Christi Purdum of Oklahoma City and many other relatives.
Opal Purdum
Funeral services for former Seminole resident, Opal L. Purdum are scheduled for Monday, Sept. 8 at 10 a.m. at the Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Neff officiating.
Local graveside services will be at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday at the Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home.
She died Sept, 4, 2003, at the age of 87 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kan.
She was born March 24, 1916, in Cleveland to Cort and Elsie (Rainbolt) Smith.
She attended Bowlegs High School and Tulsa Business College.
She later received her certificate as a certified professional secretary.
She married Harry C. Purdum Jr. on Nov. 28, 1937, in Seminole.
He passed away on April 11. 1996.
She worked for Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. in Wichita, Kan. as a secretary for the district manager for eight years.
She then worked for Boeing Aircraft Company, Wichita, Kan. as a secretary to the plant manager for 12 years.
She had lived in Park Hill, Wichita, Kan., Oklahoma City, Holdenville and Seminole.
She was a member of Wally Byam Caravan Club of the Oklahoma Green Country Unit where she served as secretary, treasurer and president.
She was also a member of the Main Street Christian Church in Stockton, Kan.
She liked traveling, handcrafts, sewing and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Harry C. Purdum III of Stockton, Kan.; one brother, Clarence R. Smith of Tempe, Ariz., three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and an infant brother, Conrad Smith.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Main Street Christian Church in Stockton, Kan. and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
Joshua Purkey
Funeral services for Tulsa resident, . Joshua David Purkey, grandson of Seminole residents, were scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19 at the Walnut Grove Church with Rev. David Ingles officiating.
Visitation was Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 17-18 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Interment followed at the Little Cemetery, north of Seminole under the direction of Reynolds Funeral Service in Tulsa.
Purkey was born Jan. 6, 1987, in Shawnee to Marion Purkey and Shelia (Carter) Purkey.
He died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, at the age of 16 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa.
He was a student.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, M.J. Purkey and Jean Purkey.
He is survived by his parents, Marion Purkey and Sheilia (Carter) Purkey of Tulsa; one brother, Matt Purkey of Colleen, Texas; two sisters, Angela Porter and Rebeca Purkey; grandparents, Ben and Bonnie Carter of Seminole; and two nephews.
Brian Quach
Funeral services for son of former Seminole residents, Brian "Bird" Quach are scheduled for 12 p.m. April 29, 2003 at
Baggerly – South Funeral Home Chapel in Oklahoma City.
He passed away Friday, April 25, 2003.
He was born August 12, 1989 in Oklahoma City to Carol Gunville and Tuan Quach.
Brian kept busy with his studies at Roosevelt Middle School in Oklahoma City and playing basketball.
He enjoyed spending time with his little sister, listening to music, dancing and playing video games.
He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Ngoc Quach.
Survivors include his parents, two sisters, Kimberly and Hillary Quach, one brother, Joshua Quach and many aunts and uncles’ numerous cousins and countless friends.
Interment to follow at Moses Cemetery in Wewoka under the direction of Baggerly-South Funeral Home
Sally Quillin
A memorial service will be held for longtime Seminole resident Sally Virginia Quillin at 10 a.m. Monday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.
Dr. Jack Medlock will officiate.
Burial will take place at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Sally passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at her home at the age of 62.
She was born to Thomas Autre Foutch and Rhoda Lee (Boren) Foutch on July 15, 1940 in Tarzan, Texas.
Sally married Karlos Ray Quillin on Dec. 23, 1959 in Seminole, Texas.
The couple moved to Seminole, Okla., from Andrew, Texas in 1969, and was a homemaker.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Karlos, of the home; one son, Curtis Ray Quillin, Tahlequah; two daughters, Ronda Lee Griffin, Lyle, Wash., and Twila Sue Pepe, Seminole; one brother, Thomas Allen Foutch; three sisters, Jackie Adams, Tennie English, and Thelma Arnold; and six grandchildren, Nicholas Ray Pepe, Meghan Nicole Pepe, Aiden Mahki Pepe, Kasey Ray Quillin, Dustin Fowble, and Ashley Skelton.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Eastern Hills Hospice, 407 Strothers, Seminole.
Gerald Quinn
Word has been received of the death of Wewoka native Gerald "Jerry" Allen Quinn.
Quinn died at his home in Anchorage, Alaska on Nov. 23, 2002 at the age of 67.
Interment was at Fort Richardson National Cemetery in Anchorage, Alaska.
Quinn was born May 26, 1935 in Wewoka to Donald and Ora Quinn.
He worked as a volunteer firefighter prior to his military service in the Oklahoma National Guard and then the U.S. Army where he served 12 years as an aviation mechanic and was a Vietnam veteran.
After his separation from the Army in 1963, he remained in Maryland working as an auto mechanic for several years and went on to retire as a heavy equipment operator in 1998.
Quinn moved to Kent Island in the late 1980s where he lived until August 2001.
He then relocated to Anchorage, Alaska.
He was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
Quinn is survived by his wife, Mary Dorothy (Lambert); one son, Jerry A. Quinn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald F. Quinn.
Tina Adelhelm Rawlins
Graveside services for Tina Adelhelm Rawlins, a relative of a Seminole resident, were scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the Chapel Hill Cemetery in Oklahoma City with Rev. Bill Moore officiating.
Rawlins died Nov. 24, 2003, at the age of 97 in Bartlesville.
She grew up in Holdenville and was a cashier at Nick’s Restaurant for several years.
She married Ray Rawlins in the 1930’s and they moved to Oklahoma City.
She was secretary of Drexal Baptist Church for many years.
After her husband, Ray died, she made her home with her only child, Mary Ann Moore and husband Bill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and five sisters.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann Moore of Bartlesville as well as several neices including Letha King of Bowlegs, Marie Peters of Texas, Alene Capps in Midwest City and the late Katrina Grizzale of Holdenville.
George F. ‘Fred’ Reese
Memorial services for former Seminole resident George F. "Fred" Reese are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004.
Services will be held at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Shawnee with Rev. Art Scrutchins officiating.
The services are under the direction of Gaskill Funeral Home of Shawnee.
Reese died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003 at his residence at the age of 98.
