Liver Transplant Patient Dies in Oklahoma City
The Seminole County resident who roused such community support during her liver transplant and afterward, succumbed to complications on Monday.
Ruby Sneed Rogers, 59, died Oct. 13, 2003 at Integris Baptist Hospital, Oklahoma City.
She’d been ill since the 1980s, when she was diagnosed with hepatitis C due to an earlier blood transfusion, and suffered complications for more than 20 years.
When doctors said she required a liver transplant to live, Rogers waited for weeks to find a matching donor, someone with her same small size and hard-to-find blood type.
On April 26, she received the liver of a 14-year-old barrel racer from Luther, who had died in a rodeo accident.
Rogers had continued her struggle until this week.
Her funeral services are planned for 3 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Seminole.
Rev. Kelvin Moseley will officiate.
Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka.
Rogers was born April 13, 1944, in Oklahoma City to Bill and Ruby (Gallamore) Sneed.
She was reared in Seminole County and graduated from New Lima High School.
She married Jimmy Dale Rogers on March 15, 1975, in Kansas City, Kans.
She continued her education and obtained a master’s degree in business education from East Central State College, Ada.
She began her teaching career in Paden, where she taught for two years.
She taught at Bowlegs Public School for 18 years, retiring in 2003.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharra Calaway, and two brothers, Jesse Roy Sneed and Charles Ray Sneed.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; one son, Keith Barkhimer, Shawnee; three daughters, Terri Whitten, Enid, Gina Dighton, Yukon, and Angela Turner, Seminole; 13 grandchildren; her parents, now of Midwest City; four sisters, Dana Sallee, Wewoka, Johncy Dufresne, Kansas City, Mo., Jackie Miller, Whitesboro, Texas, and Kathy Brickey, Midwest City; one brother, Billie Sneed, Choctaw; and a niece, Karen Barnes, who gave up her time to care for Rogers.
Pallbearers include Carl Barkhimer, James Brickey, Steve Barkhimer, Chris Bryan, Dusty Darr, Robert Gale, and honorary pallbearer Chris Fuller.
Bobby Dewayne Ross
A memorial service for native Seminole resident, Bobby Dewayne Ross will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27 at the Little Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Prague.
He was born April 15, 1955, in Seminole to Bobby Joe and Mary Ann (Winn) Ross.
He died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, in Shawnee at the age of 48.
He was a heavy equipment operator on pipeline construction.
He enjoyed his time at the lake.
Survivors include His mother, Mary Ann Ross; father, Bobby Joe Ross; one son, Bradley Dewayne Ross; stepdaughters, Tami Douthit of Bowlegs, Lori Lehman and Lisa Graham, both of Seminole; brothers, Roger Dale Ross of Paden and Sherman Lee Ross of Harrah; one sister, Vickie Caldwell of Shawnee; and 10 grandchildren.
Jackie Rounsaville
Funeral services for former Seminole County resident, Jackie ‘Nanny’ Ruth (Hensley) Rounsaville, are scheduled for Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Konawa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home.
She died May 5, 2003, at the age of 69 at Midwest City Regional Hospital.
She was born January 10, 1934 in Konawa to O.R. ‘Dick’ Hensley and Maudie Hensley.
She was married to Charles E. Rounsaville on August 6, 1951 in Konawa and moved from Konawa in 1954.
She was a homemaker and attended the First Nazarene Church in Shawnee.
Her parents, three brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sons, Ron Rounsaville of Edmond and Gerald Rounsaville of Tecumseh; one daughter, Shirley Rounsaville of Shawnee; two sisters, Ellis Sparks of Konawa and Clara Adams of Marietta, Texas; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Officiating the services will be Brother Harold Blankenship.
Ruby Dawson
Funeral services for Oklahoma City resident, Ruby Rita Dawson, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Rock Springs Indian Baptist Church in Sasakwa.
Interment will follow at Walton Family Cemetery in Sasakwa.
Rev. Jim Marshall will officiate under the direction of the Stout-Phillips Funeral Home of Wewoka.
Dawson died April 2, 2003 at Physicians Hospital in Anadarko at the age of 76.
She was born January 16, 1927 in Wewoka to Dave and Bertha Walton Mingus, attended school in Sasakwa and was reared in the Seminole County area.
She married John Dawson in Oklahoma City and was a homemaker, mother and grandmother.
Two sisters, Chrystal Marshall of Claremore and Edith Mingus of Tuttle; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends survive her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John Dawson in 1988, and 2 sons, Allan Wayne Dawson and Johnny Dawson; two brothers, Dave Mingus and Barney Fixico; and one sister, Sarah Ann Mingus.
Pallbearers will be Clinton Dawson, Bobby Dawson, Donny Hill, Randy Thrash, Robert Murphy and Phillip Howard.
Junna Lynn (Treadway) Rush
Graveside services for Seminole resident, Junna Lynn (Tredway) Rush are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Little Cemetery, north of Seminole.
She died July 31, 2003, at the age of 51 at home.
She was born July 14, 1952, in Sherman, Texas to Ted Treadway and Norma June (Phillips).
She was married to Vester Lee Rush on Dec. 19, 1981, in Norman.
She moved to Seminole three years ago, from Oklahoma City.
She worked in sales for Century Arts Supply for several years, until her death.
She is affiliated with the Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by both her parents.
She is survived by her spouse, Vester Lee Rush of the home; daughters Christina Ann Milligan of Watonga and Michelle Rene Callahan of Oakwood; and one grandchild.
Officiating the services will be Pastor Ben Gleves.
Services will be under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Lola Jean Rush
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident, Lola Jean Rush, are scheduled for Monday at 10 a.m. at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel.
She died May 15, 2003 at the age of 72 at her home in Seminole.
She was born June 21, 1929 in Seminole to Ben Alton Reynolds and Gladys Mary (Hubbard) Reynolds.
She was married to Jim Leonard Rush on August 10, 1962 in Durant.
She was a retired secretary and attended the Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Leonard Rush on January 30, 2002, her parents one brother, Gerald Reynolds and her stepfather, Jim Driscoll on August 24, 1983.
She is survived by a host of friends and family.
Pastor Kelvin Moseley will be officiating the services.
Interment will follow to Little Cemetery under the direction of the Swearingen Funeral Home.
Jackie Russell
Funeral services for Maud resident Jackie Lee "Jack" Russell will take place at the Rolland-Farmers Union Funeral Home in Jonesboro, Ark., with the time and date still pending.
Burial is set to follow the services at the Pine Log Cemetery in Brookland, Ark.
Arrangements are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home of Maud.
Russell died Monday, March 31, 2003 in Seminole at the age of 56.
He was born to Richard Wesley Russell and Jessie Lee (Adkins) Russell on April 24, 1946 in Hoxie, Ark.
Russell married Patrica (Wallace) Russell on Sept. 20, 1993 in Walnut Ridge, Ark.
He had been a Maud resident for the past nine years, having moved there from Jonesboro, Ark.
Russell was a carpenter, working for Acurate Roofing, and was also a maintenance man for the City of Maud.
He was a member of the New Life Church of Maud.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of the home; three sons, Everett Russell, Richard Russell, and Vernon Wesley Russell, all of Jonesboro, Ark., two step-sons, Wayne Baize, Milfay, and Quinton Baize, Del City; one daughter, Sherry A. Campbell, Jonesboro, Ark.; two brothers, Ronnie Russell, Paragould, Ark., and Gary Russell, Jonesboro, Ark; two sisters, Sue Nance and Debbra Dill, both of Jonesboro, Ark.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Casket bearers will be Ronnie Russell, Everett Russell, Jerry Dill, Jr., Billy Dill, Nathen Elord, and Kevin Russell.
Honorary bearer will be Wayne Morris.
