Funeral services for former Seminole County, Lorene Tilley Visconty of Wewoka, were held on Saturday, Oct. 4 by a gathering of family and friends in Seattle.
She was born in Weslaco, Texas to John Oscar Tilley and Mamie Dale (Salter) Tilley.
She died Sept. 28, 2003, at the age of 82.
Her family later settled in Wewoka where she lived until she graduated from high school in 1938.
She was one of nine children and was known as "Tiny" by her family and friends.
She went on to receive her bachelors degree in chemistry from Baylor University in Texas, where she worked as a research chemist for the Magnolia Oil Company.
She was married George John Visconty from Ashtabula, Ohio on April 21, 1945 in Dallas, Texas.
They later moved to New Jersey where they raised their family.
She enjoyed quilting in her younger years, but later became an avid oil painter and golfer.
She loved animals and at home, she was rarely seen without a cat curled up on her lap.
Lorene is survived by her husband, George Visconty of Gig Harbor, Wash.; her sons, Mark Visconty and wife, Wendy of Seattle, Wash. and Greg Visconty and wife, Sandi of La Grande, Ore.; her daughter, Kathleen Visconty Zilhaver and husband, Tom of Longmont, Colo.; one sister, Loreta Mae Bush of Midwest City, one brother, Lyndell Tilley of Riverton, Wyo.; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and her dearest friend of almost 55 years, Helen Kelsey of –Plymouth Meeting, Pa.
Joyce Vivier
Funeral services for former Konawa resident Joyce Ann Vivier, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Konawa.
Rev. Ed George will officiate.
Burial will follow at the Hutcheuppa Church Cemetery near Dustin, under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.
Wake services are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church.
Vivier died Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at Carl Albert Indian Hospital in Ada at the age of 61.
She was born to John Watson and Sally (Riley) Watson on July 15, 1941 in Ada.
She married David Vivier on July 16, 1963 in Ada.
Vivier was a licensed practical nurse, and attended Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church.
She was one of the first LPN’s to be hired at Carl Albert Indian Facility, and she also worked on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota.
She attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, and received her nurse’s training in New Mexico.
Vivier was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, David, of the home; two sons, Eugene Paul Vivier and Tony Lee Vivier; and nine grandchildren.
Margaret Rogers Volkmer
Funeral services for Seminole resident Margaret L. Rogers Volkmer are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at Alexander Funeral Home in Wilson.
Rev. Jim Gillum will officiate. Burial will follow in Keller Cemetery.
Volkmer died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at Midwest City Regional Medical Center at the age of 75.
She was born Sept. 22, 1927, in Milo to Bennie F. Rogers and Letha (Brown) Chisum.
She grew up in Seminole and attended school at Bowlegs.
She lived in California and Arkansas, and returned to Seminole in 1983.
She married James Marvin Volkmer on Jan. 27, 1954.
Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Spivey, Slocomb, Ala., and Janie Champlain, Tahlequah; two sisters, Emma High of Oxnard, Calif., and Velma Richards of Tahlequah; two brothers, Grady Chisum, Seminole, and Cecil Chisum, Tampa, Fla.; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and her beloved companion of 11 years, Bob Williams of Seminole.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bennie Rogers, in 1929; parents, Cecil and Letha (Brown) Chisum; an infant daughter, Dixie Mae Volkmer; an infant son, James M. Volkmer Jr.; a grandson, Richard Marvin Sims; and a brother, Sonny Boy Chisum.
Pallbearers will include Tom Brown, Mark Bell, Preston Bell, John Phipps, Terry Spivey and Bob Williams.
Lola Waddell
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident, Lola Jean Waddell are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Hammons officiating.
Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
She died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003, at the age of 75 at Integris Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
She was born Jan. 28, 1928, in Addington to Robert Todd Pace and Ernestine (Steele) Pace.
She was married to Norman Waddell on Aug. 14, 1948, in Odessa, Texas.
She was a homemaker, a member of First Baptist Church, member of the couple’s class, and was very active in the church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, J.B. Pace.
She is survived by Norman Waddell of the home; three sons and daughter-in-laws, Larry and Janet Waddell of Seminole, Keith and Leanne Waddell of Oklahoma City and Todd and Brooke Waddell of Broken Arrow; one daughter, Mariann Waddell of Denton, Texas; one brother, Robert "Dan" Pace of St. Petersberg, Fla.; one sister, Merle Cushenberry of Dallas, Texas; six grandchildren, Amie Quintero, Chris Waddell, Marci Waddell, Kara Waddell, Conner Galloway and Turner Waddell; and four great grandchildren, Kallie Quintero, Jillian Quintero, Sidney Waddell and Luke Waddell.
Casket bearers will be Jack Reynolds, Owen Melton, Steve Davidson, Don Raney, J.C. Pemberton, Dub Childers and John Humphrey.
Dora Wade
Funeral services for Vamoosa native Dora Wade are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at C.E.F.A. in Tulsa.
Graveside services are to follow at 3 p.m. at Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Nick Reynolds Funeral Service of Tulsa.
Wade died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003 at the age of 63.
She was born Nov. 16, 1939 in Vamoosa to S.R. and Jewel Scroggin.
She married David R. Wade on July 1, 1960.
Wade was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Stanley Scroggin; and her daughter, Sheila Ruth Wade.
She is survived by her husband; one son, David A. Wade; one daughter, Dee Allison; five grandchildren; two sisters, Patsy Roulston and Ernestine York, both of Konawa; and one brother, Russell Scroggin of Nicoma Park.
Edna Mae Walker
OKLAHOMA CITY – Funeral services for Seminole resident Edna Mae Walker are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Branstetter-Merritt’s Rosewood Chapel.
Burial is to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Branstetter-Merritt Fuenral Home.
Walker died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003 at the age of 91.
She was born Jan. 19, 1912 in Seminole to David and Selina Micco Coker.
She was baptized at Wewoka Indian Baptist Church in 1948.
Walker moved to Oklahoma City in 1959 and attended Central Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Murl Brown and Leo Walker; two brothers, David Coker II and Harry Coker; and one sister, Helen Hill.
She is survived by three children, Loretta Foster, Genevieve Fish, and Glenn Walker; one brother, George Coker; three sisters, Hazel Lusty, Della Jones, and Annamae Cash; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Ida Lee Ward
Services are scheduled for Friday, September 5, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Assembly of God in Sasakwa, with Brother Wesley Martin officiating.
Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.
She died Sept. 2, 2003, at the age of 83.
She was born to Evert and Leona (Jones) Crosby at Paden, OK, on August 23, 1920, and left this life at Heritage Village Nursing Home, surrounded by her family.
She lived in Seminole as a small child, moving to Sasakwa as a child.
She attended the Assembly of God Church in Sasakwa most of her life.
She married Leroy Ward on March 12, 1938, and lived in Sasakwa, Seminole County most of her life.
He preceded her in death on June 22, 1996.
Also, preceding her in death were her parents, three sisters, Myrtle Crosby, Lorene Jones, Helen Thornton, and two brothers, Jep Crosby and Willie Crosby.
She is survived by three sons, Eugene Ward, Sasakwa, Sonny Ward, Sasakwa, Oval Ward, Hitchita; two daughters, Nyoka Davis, Spaulding, and Jackie Clifton, Sasakwa; fourteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Stella Hollis of Woodward, and Imogene Fahrny of Drumright, and many other family members and friends.
Pall Bearers will be her grandsons, Kent Ward, Kenny Davis, Shawn Ward, Billy Clifton, Chad Ward, Richard Clifton, Cheyenne Ward, Cody Ward, and nephew, Bill Ken Ward.
Honorary Bearers will be Donnie Shaffer, Pete Peters, Robert Jones, Billy "Jr." Crosby, Ricky Hollis, Evertt Thornton, and Dillon Shaffer.
Mary L. Ward
Graveside services for former Seminole resident Mary L. Ward are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, July 10 at Little Cemetery.
She died July 7, 2003, at the age of 75 at Medical City Dallas Hospital.
She was born May 25, 1928, in Seminole to John Leo Wood and Ocie P. (Sharks) Wood.
She was the office manager for Fowlers Ethan Allen in Richardson, Texas.
She belonged to the Church of Christ.
She is survived by her spouse, Curtis Ward of the home; two sons, Warren Ward of Richardson, Texas and Roger Ward of West Palm Beach, Fla.; one daughter, Melinda Adwon of Tulsa; one brother, Floyd Dale Wood of Midland, Texas; and three grandchildren.
Rusty Dawson will be officiating the services.
Services will be under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
