W.J. ‘Sonny’ Bean

Funeral services for longtime Seminole County resident, W.J. "Sonny" Bean are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 21 at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Houston Tiger officiating.

Interment will follow at the Little Cemetery, north of Seminole, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.

Wake services will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 20 at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel.

Bean died Sunday, April 18, 2004, at the age of 67 at the Southwestern Medical Center in Lawton.

He was born june 21, 1936, in Seminole to Mose Bean and Martha (Harjo) Bean.

He married Deborah Jo Berryhill in 1969 in Seminole.

Bean had worked in the oil field.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Tom Bean; and three sisters, Mary Lee Bender, Susie Petete and Alice Bean Walker.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Jo Berryhill of Lawton; four sons, Thomas Bean, Jason Bean and Darrell Bean, all of Tulsa and Gerald Bean of Lawton; one daughter, April Addis of Bixby; one sister, Dorothy Narcomey of Seminole and nine grandchildren.

Opal Jane Beauford

Funeral services for former Seminole resident Opal Jane Beauford will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Assembly of God Church in Claremore with Rev. Curtis Owen officiating.

Interment will follow at Oowala Cemetery under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service and Crematory.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 – 8 p.m. Thursday

Beauford, 80, died Aug. 24, 2004 at the Wood Manor Nursing Home. She was born in Maysville on April 30, 1924 to Harvey Nathan and Leona (Neal) Wilburn.

She attended school in Seminole and married Forrest Beauford in Shawnee by Forrest’s father. They moved to Claremore in 1949.

Beauford enjoyed singing and sang in a trio at church as a teenager, and then joined the Gospel Keys Trio in Claremore. She also enjoyed painting and took art lessons from Ms. Gordon.

She and her husband showed poultry all over the United States and she became a Master Exhibitor with the National Poultry Association.

Beauford enjoyed collecting rocks and flowers throughout the nation and was featured on the local flower tour for several years.

Her parents and an infant sister, Pauline Wilburn, precede her in death.

Beauford’s survivors include her husband; daughters Vickie McCuistian of Claremore, and Brenda DeVore of Broken Arrow; brothers Harold Wilburn of Broken Arrow, Lloyd Wilburn of Shawnee, and Norman Wilburn of Shell Knob, Mo.; and two grandsons.

Memorial contributions, which will be used towards the mission programs, may be made to the Opal Jane Beauford Memorial at the First Assembly of God Church, P.O. Box 56, Claremore, Okla. 74018.

Bettye Jo Beavers-Thornton

Funeral services for Seminole County native, Bettye Jo Beavers-Thornton of Oklahoma City are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, May 7 at the Fairview Baptist Church in Oklahoma City with Bishop Fred H. Bobbitt officiating.

Viewing will be held from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 2 at the Pollard Funeral Home in Oklahoma City.

Interment will be at the Westwood Cemetery of Wewoka under the direction of the Pollard Funeral Home.

Medreath Etta Bell

Funeral services for Medreath Etta (Spurrier) Bell, 96, of Seminole are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka.

Rev. Chris Brown of Decatur, Texas will officiate.

Interment will be at the Oakwood Cemetery, Wewoka.

Bell passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2004 at the Pioneer Nursing Home.

She was born Jan. 6, 1908 in Meritt, Texas to Effie "Two Mama" and Stonewall Jackson Spurrier.

She lived in the Wewoka area since 1925, and moved to Seminole in 1992 with her daughter, Mary Tolson.

She married Fairy Estel Bell in 1925, in McAlester. They made their home in Wewoka and raised seven children.

She is survived by sons, Donny Bell of Ft Stockton, Texas and Cecil Bell of Farmington, N.M.; and daughers Linda Cook of Rancho Cordova, Calif., Doris Ann Baker of Waurika and Mary Louise Tolson of Seminole; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by F.E Bell and sons, Forrest Bell and Coy Gene Bell.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Robert Moon, Mike Moon, Chris Moon, Roger Bell and Ray Griggs. Music will be by Henry Baker.

Maddison Benn

Funeral services for Maddison Pate Benn, infant daughter of Brent and Kerri Benn, were held on Monday, April 12 at the Life Church in Edmond.

Interment followed at the Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home of Edmond.

She was born and died April 7, 2004, in Edmond.

She is survived by her parents, Brent and Kerri Benn, her twin sister, Brooklyn Ella Benn; and one brother, Bosten Benn; all of Edmond; grandparents, Bob and Sherweeta Benn of Seminole and Morris and Marilyn Hancock of Carrollton, Texas; and great grandmother, Nina Barnett of Seminole.

Frances Brown Bennett

Services for former Seminole County resident, Frances Brown Bennett, of Oklahoma City, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, May 28, 2004, at the Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel in Wewoka with Rev. Frank Moppin officiating.

Bennett died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at the age of 85, at the Central Oklahoma Christian Home, in Oklahoma City.

Bennett was born October 19, 1918, in Sasakwa to Louis C. and Golda (Donaghey) Brown.

She was raised in Sasakwa, and left for her journey in life at the young age of 20 years.

She was also a Wewoka resident for a while.

She began her college education at Bacon College, in Fort Gibson, later attending East Central State University, in Ada, and graduating from Central State College, Edmond, with a teaching degree.

She lived in numerous places and taught school at Chilocco Indian School, near the Kansas border, for 10 years until it closed.

She then moved to Oklahoma City and taught until her retirement at the age of 69.

She moved back to Sasakwa until 2001 when she moved to the Central Oklahoma Christian Home, in Oklahoma City.

Bennett was the last surviving granddaughter of Governor John F. Brown, the last absolute Chief of the Seminole Tribe.

She was preceded in death by her husband; and two sons, Joe Brown Bennett, and John F. Bennett.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Judith Bennett, Oklahoma City, and three granddaughters, Jaa’ Soos, Jennifer Morrell, and Lisa Bennett.

Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Wewoka, under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.

Jackie Arnold Berry

Funeral services for Wewoka resident Jackie Arnold Berry are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. Willie Guient officiating.

Interment will follow the service at Wisner Cemetery in Wetumka under the direction of Myers Mortuary.

Berry, 53, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 204 in Oklahoma City. He was born July 25, 1951 in Wewoka to Jack and Vera Berry.

He graduated from Butner Schools where he played football and received numerous awards.

Berry worked for the city of Seminole for many years, the city of Wewoka for one year, Agua Farms and Grade Stake of Holdenville for six years. He was a member of the Church of Nazarene.

His mother and a sister, Vera Berry, preceded him in death.

His wife Wanda Faye Berry; his father; sons Jimmy Berry of Midwest City and Jackie Berry Jr. of Tecumseh; daughter Charlotte Berry of Shawnee and six grandchildren survive him.

In addition brothers Earl Berry, Donnie Ray Berry and Doris Berry, all of Shawnee, Benjamin Berry and Kenneth Ray Berry of Lima, Carl Berry of Spencer and Sammy Lee Berry of Wewoka; sisters Jackie Mae Stroud of Wewoka, Neola Jackson of Lima, Deaner Berry, Cora Brown, Wanda Jones and Rosetta Berry all of Oklahoma City also survive him.

Matthew Berryhill

Funeral services for Wewoka fourth grader Matthew Kyle (Hvtke) Berryhill are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wetumka Indian Baptist Church.

Rev. Fred Lindsey will officiate. Burial will follow in Wetumka Indian Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home.

Berryhill died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, in an Oklahoma City hospital at the age of 10.

He was born March 25, 1994, in Ada, to Sheila Faye Berryhill) Remis.

He attended Wewoka elementary school and enjoyed school and sports.

He loved riding his bike and spending time with his family and friends, as well as attending church and all kinds of music.

He is survived by his mother, Shelia Remis and stepfather David Williams, Wewoka; sisters, Lacie Williams, Wewoka, and Kimberly Remis, Henryetta; brothers, Austin Williams, Wewoka, and Shawn Remis, Henryetta; and grandparents, Chubby and Shirley Berryhill, Wetumka.

Pallbearers will include Gene Berryhill, David Williams, David Lindsey, Tommy Remis, Sam Remis Jr., and Shawn Remis.

Herman Bevelhymer

Funeral services for Seminole County resident, Herman H. Bevelhymer will be held Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church, Wewoka, with Rev. Doyle Gadberry officiating.

Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of the Stout Phillips Funeral Home of Wewoka.

He died Feb. 6, 1004, at the age of 93.

Bevelhymer was born Aug. 15, 1911, in Bluffton, Ind. to Earl and Rhetta Ann (Bowen) Bevelhymer.

He came to Oklahoma permanently after his mother died in 1921.

He worked in the oilfield until 1937 when he started a dairy nine miles southwest of Wewoka.

He and his family operated the dairy for 25 years before going into the oil business and other business interests until his death.

He married Nan Smith on Dec. 17, 1934.

They were married 60 years.

She preceded him in death in 1995.

He was a member of Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church in Wewoka.

He was well respected for his broad knowledge in the dairy, farming, ranching, and oil businesses in Oklahoma.

He served more than 40 years as a member of the Seminole County Agricultural Soil Conservation Services Board.

He was of a generation of necessity that required hard work and discipline.

He gained much satisfaction in life from his work and always remained very devoted to his family.

He is survived by his children, Ray and Janice, Earl and Ruby, and Jake Bevelhymer, Ann and Raymond Cain, all of Wewoka; Darrell and Patricia of Fort Worth, Texas; twelve grandchildren, Vicky Anderson, Tony and Melissa Bevelhymer, Sophia Adams, Christy and Mike Findley, Bryan and Rita Cain, all of Wewoka; Matt and Alice Cain of Tulsa; Kelli and Gene Davis of Ada; Penny and Ryan Kelly, Russell and Cassie Bevelhymer, and Sarah Bevelhymer, of Texas; Brent Bevelhymer of Florida; Beth and Jonathan Bishop of New York; 23 great-grandchildren; and one half-sister, Sue Beheren of Lovington, New Mexico.

He was preceded in death by Janie Bevelhymer in 2002.

Donations may be made to Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church. Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
