Graveside services for Dorothy Birks, 81, were scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Vista Cemetery. Rev. Glen Pence will be officiating.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Konawa.
Birks died Saturday, Aug. 7, at McCloud Nursing Center.
She was born on Jan. 5, 1923 in Greenville, S.C., to Roy and Anna (Gamble) Hammond.
She was married to Ruie Birks in 1941 in Crestview, Fla.
She was a member of the Baptist Faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, James Birks in 1968, two sisters and one brother.
She was survived by one son, Robert Birks, of Asher; three daughters, Mary Hughes, of Wagoner, Janet Cranford of Maud and Donna Tocknell of Asher; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Donna Pearl Rivers Black
Funeral service for Seminole resident Donna Pearl Rivers Black is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Antwan D. Hart officiating.
Interment will be at Westwood Cemetery in Wewoka near her family. Swearingen Funeral home is handling arrangements.
Black died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, at Seminole Estates Nursing Home. She was 69.
A long time Seminole resident, she was born Dec. 9, 1935, in Seminole County to Luther Harris Rivers and Tezzie (Miller) Rivers.
Black was a housekeeper and a follower of the Methodist faith.
She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School.
Black is survived by her brother, Theodore Rivers of Seminole; three sisters, Lorene Shannon of Seminole, Rose Marie Hyeche and Luberta Hart of Midwest City and several nieces and nephews.
Casket bearers will be nephews and relatives. Flower bearers will nieces and relatives.
Thurman ‘T.I.’ Black
Funeral services for longtime Seminole County resident Thurman "T.I." Black are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, July 1, at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole.
Rev. Wade Robertson will officiate the services, and burial is set to follow at the Little Cemetery north of Seminole, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Black died Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at Rose Manor Nursing Home in Shawnee, at the age of 84.
He was born on Sept. 23, 1919, in Winfield, Ala., to William Cleveland Black and Ramie (Trim) Black.
On Dec. 26, 1941, he married Geneva G. (Dockery) Black in Earlsboro.
Black served in the military during World War II, and was a prisoner of war.
Upon returning to the states, he worked for the Seminole Water Department for more than 35 years.
Black was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Regis Black and Robert Black.
He is survived by his wife, of the home; his son, Ronnie Black, Seminole; two daughters, Lillian Compton of Maud and Veta June Wilson of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Kathryn Jones of Noble and Jewell Saylor of Shawnee; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Helen Blackburn
Funeral services for former longtime Seminole resident, Helen Pauline Blackburn are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, May 10 at the First Church of God with Rev. Clifton Adams officiating.
Interment will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
Blackburn died Monday, May 3, 2004, at the age of 86 in the Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Oklahoma City.
She was born Jan. 1, 1918, in Fitzhugh to Albert Ross Moore and Frances Stacey.
She was married to Molen Blackburn on May 22, 1937 in Pauls Valley.
Blackburn was a former Seminole resident of many years.
She was a homemaker and was a member of the First Church of God in Seminole.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nolen Blackburn on June 15, 1994;
She is survived by one son, Nolen Blackburn and wife, Redonda of Shawnee; one daughter, Barbara Barrowman of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren, Sherri and Mike Thurman of Edmond, Stan and Jayme Barrowman of Liberal, Kan., Stuart and Cindy Barrowman of Stafford, Texas, Mary Lou Hill of Oklahoma City, Sonya Blackburn of Montruse, Colo., David and Laura Blackburn of Oklahoma City and Duane and Shanelle Blackburn of Tucson, Ariz.; and 17 great grandchildren.
David Blackwood
Graveside services for former Konawa resident David Blackwood, 50, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Vamoosa Cemetery. Rev. Pam Shirk will be officiating.
Services under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home in Konawa.
Blackwood died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004 at a local hospital.
He was born on May 23, 1953 in Bremerton, Wash., to G.C. and Mary (Wanto) Blackwood.
He graduated from Bartlett High School in Webster, Mass.
He was an electrician and a Methodist.
He was preceded in death by infant daughter, Sally Blackwood, and his father.
He is survived by his mother, two sons, Joshua Blackwood and Jessie Blackwood of Klatskanie, Ore.; two brothers Timothy Blackwood of Oxford, Mass. and Roger Blackwood of Norman; and one grandson.
Tommy Blake
Memorial services for Seminole resident Tommy Gibbons Blake are scheduled for 12 p.m. Thursday, May 27, at the Resthaven Funeral Chapel at 104th and Walker in Oklahoma City.
Blake died Monday, May 24, 2004, at the age of 83, in Seminole.
He proudly served his country as a corporal with the 2nd Marine Division during World War II.
He carried the memories and experiences with him his entire life.
Blake fought in the Pacific on Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian, Okinawa, and participated in the occupation of Japan.
After the war he returned home, married Justine (Lurry), and raised two daughters while being actively involved at Exchange Avenue Baptist Church.
He retired from Tinker Field as a machinist.
The next big change in his life was the move to Seminole and attended Highway Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Justine (Lurry) Blake, and daughters Gwen Bacon and Derenda Moore all of Seminole, several grandchildren, numerous family and friends.
A memorial contribution be made to the Highway Baptist Church, PO Box 1631, Seminole OK 74868.
I.L. Blankenship
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident I.L. Blankenship are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 23 at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Brother H.K. Griffin officiating.
Interment is to follow services at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Blankenship, 86, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004 at mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born Nov. 2, 1918 in Seminole to Dave and Pearl Vivan (Shelton) Blankenship.
He married Shirley Ann Urban on Aug. 30, 1959 in Carson City, Nev. and he was a member of the Church of God in Maud.
Blankenship was a retired merchant marine officer of the United States Navy and had served aboard the U.S.S. Whitney as a Boilermaker 2nd Class.
His parents and one sister preceded him in death.
Surviving him is his wife of the home; son Lynn Blankenship Jr. of Maud; two daughters, Shirley L. Blankenship of Tulsa and Brigette McClanahan of Wewoka; one brother, Glenn Blankenship of Midwest City; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be Lash Blankenship, Blaize Blankenship, Buckey Blankenship, Lynn Blankenship, David Love and Clarence Hopper.
Acting as honorary bearers will be Josh Blankenship, Bryan Blankenship, Brent McClanahan, Raymond McClanahan and Stanley Kerr.
Dwayne D. Bobbitt
Funeral services for Rev. Dwayne D. Bobbitt, 80, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Home with Rev. Doyle Seely, Pastor of Chandler First Assembly of God Church, to officiate.
Bobbitt died Sept. 27, 2004 in Seminole. He was born on May 3, 1924 in Eufaula to Lawrence and Susan Bobbitt.
He married Virginia Lee Hyatt on Sept. 21, 1943 in Seminole and was ordained as a minister for the Assemblies of God on March 1, 1960.
Bobbitt has ministered in the Arkansas, California, Oklahoma, and Texas District of the Assemblies of God for 50 years. He preached his final two sermons at hilltop Assembly of God Church on Sept. 26, 2004.
He accepted Christ as Savior of his life on Nov. 4, 1954 and spent his life preaching the gospel and sharing God’s love.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, and a daughter.
Surviving family members are his wife, Virginia Lee Bobbitt of the home; Eileen Marie Smart of McKinney, Texas; four granddaughters and, Leona Bolding and husband of Oak Point, Texas, Gail Snider and husband of Pilot Point, Texas, Lisa McGee of Ponca City, and Regina Stillwell and husband of Seminole.
Additional survivors are six great-grandchildren, Alex and Elaine Snider, Joshua Bolding, Justin McGee, and Eric and Samantha Stillwell.
Interment will be at Little Cemetery. Pallbearers are to be grandsons-in-law Mark Bolding and John Snider, Hilltop Assembly of God members, Larry Davidson, Joe Houck, Mark Poulter, and Walter Tibbs. Carl Moore will be acting as honorary pallbearer.
