KONAWA -- Graveside funeral services for James Worth Bruton are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Konawa Cemetery.
Rev. Charlie Henthron will officiate. Burial is under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home.
Bruton died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at a local hospital at the age of 58.
Viewing is set for 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
He was born June 24, 1946, in Houston, Texas, to C.W. and Wanda (Caruthers) Bruton.
He was an oilfield worker and truck driver. For the last few years, he had worked for the city of Konawa.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Konawa.
Bruton was preceded in death by his father and one niece.
Survivors include his mother, Wanda, of Konawa; and one brother, Paul Bruton, Tecumseh.
Honorary casket bearers are Bob Karns, Bob Harrison, P.D. Splawn, Fred Carpenter, R.C. Norman and Dennis Heard.
Fern DeLois ‘Dee’ Bryant
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Fern DeLois "Dee" Bryant are set for 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at Swearingen Funeral Chapel in Seminole.
Jerry Drewery is set to officiate, and burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
Bryant died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at Integris Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 80.
She was born on Sept. 26, 1924, in Willow, to Henry Warren and Minnie Pearl (Roper) McKinney.
She married Jack Walton Bryant on Nov. 8, 1942, in Seminole, and was a homemaker.
Bryant was a member of First Assembly of God in Seminole.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Bryant is survived by her husband, of the home; her son and daughter-in-law, Jack Warren and Kaye Bryant of Oklahoma City; her sister, Sue Bartholomew of Wayne; three grandchildren, Tim Bryant and his wife Shelly of Seminole, Gayle Ely of Oklahoma City, and Stacy Morris of Seminole; and five great-grandchildren, Nevin, Collin, and Brennah Bryant, Paige Ely, and Josh Morris.
Hazel Juanita Bryant
Sasakwa resident Hazel Juanita Bryant died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at the age of 74.
She was born on Sept. 25, 1930, to Oscar and Annie Gore in Coalgate.
Bryant attended Coalgate schools and lived in Coalgate until age 12.
She worked as a nurse in nursing homes and hospitals for years.
Bryant is preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Annie Gore and her husband Edward Bryant.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Roberts of Sasakwa and Sharon Larson of Memphis, Tenn.; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
There are no services scheduled for Bryant.
Hazel Juanita Bryant
There are no services planned at this time for Sasakwa resident Hazel Juanita Bryant who died Nov. 18.
Bryant was born Sept. 25, 1930 to Oscar and Annie Gore in Coalgate.
She attended Coalgate schools and lived in Coalgate until the age of 12. Bryant worked as a nurse in nursing homes and hospitals for many years.
Her parents and her husband Edward Bryant preceded her in death.
Two daughters, Patricia Roberts of Sasakwa and Sharon Larson of Memphis, Tenn.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild survive her.
Betty Lenora Bullock
Funeral services for longtime Wewoka resident Betty Lenora Bullock are scheduled for Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Larry Chesser will officiate.
Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee.
Bullock, 69, died July 29, 2004 at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City.
She was born on July 19, 1939 to Enoch and Eva (Wells) Tucker of Holdenville.
Bullock attended Wewoka schools and married Roy Bullock on May 22, 1982.
She worked at Wewoka Bakery until 1982 and also spent a number of years with the DHS.
Bullock assisted her husband with jail and prison ministry and attended the New Life Church and Tri Christian Center in Seminole.
Bullock is preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, Bill and Mary Wells.
Survivors include her husband, son; Rick Burgin of Casper, Wyo; brother, Bob Tucker of Midwest City; stepchildren, Barb Conrad, Randy Bullock, Patricia Harlow, Sandy Buser, Tim Bullock, Betty Fontenoy, Terey Bullock, and Linda Starchevich.
Also included are one granddaughter, one grandson, 15 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren and numerous family and friends.
Pallbearers include Art Cranfield, Gurdon Johnson, Chris Burgin, Mike Harlow, Keith Tucker, and Marcus Kelly.
Opal Bunyan
Opal P. Bunyan, mother of longtime Seminole resident Fred H. Bunyan, passed from this life Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004 in Hugoton, Kansas at the age of 91.
The daughter of Walter and Samantha Shedd, she was born March 13, 1913 in Palava, Texas.
Opal married Lester Frederick Bunyan June 16, 1940 in Hereford, Texas.
Opal and Lester lived one year in Abilene, Texas, then four years in Los Angeles, Calif. where they both worked in the Long Beach ship yards during World War II.
In 1945, they moved to Hugoton to farm for Lester’s dad in Stevens County.
Opal was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 19, 1968, her mother, father, sister (Maud Bell), and brother (Floyd Shedd).
She is survived by one daughter, Helen L. Bunyan of Hugoton; her son Fred and daughter-in-law, Jonna of Seminole; Ryan McKinley Bunyan, her adored grandson, of Seminole; a stepson and his wife, Ron and Lou Bunyan of Phoenix, Arizona; and her very dear longtime friend, Morton Brewer of Hugoton.
Mrs. Bunyan was a member of the First Christian Church.
Paul’s Funeral Home of Hugoton will be in charge of the arrangements. Service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 21 at the First Christian Church of Hugoton.
Burial will follow in the Hugoton Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in Opal’s name to the Mickey Burgess Memorial Scholarship at Seminole State College, P.O. Box 351, Seminole.
Juanita Katherine Burgess
Wake services for Konawa resident Juanita Katherine Burgess are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday at Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at High Springs Baptist Church, Rev. Tony Buck and Rev. Dorsey Nero officiating.
Interment is scheduled to take place in Vamoosa cemetery. Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Burgess died in her home Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at the age of 87.
She was a life-long Konawa resident.
Burgess was born Sept. 10, 1917, to June and Sibbie (Monday) Factor in Konawa.
She married Anderson Ceaser Burgess in 1938, in Wewoka.
Burgess was a homemaker.
She was a member of High Springs Baptist Church and was the women’s leader at the church.
Burgess was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Anderson Burgess on May 18, 1990; an infant daughter in 1944; one son, Frankie Burgess on Nov. 14, 1999; one brother, August Factor; two sisters, May Marshall and Julia Alexander; and one half-sister, Leah Campbell.
She is survived by three sons, June, Leo and Amon Burgess all of Konawa.
Butch Burk
George Irvin "Butch" Burk, 64, Wewoka resident, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, in Shawnee after a sudden illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10 at the Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel with Bill Chisum, officiating.
Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka.
Butch was born on Sept. 6, 1940, in Wewoka, to George "Shorty" and Faye Burk.
He graduated from Wewoka High School and attended Milwaukee Technical College.
He was a self-employed floor covering and carpet salesman and contractor.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Glen Hulsey.
He is survived by his first wife, Barbara Burk Schuster, Racine, Wis.; son Randy Burk and wife Tammy, daughter, Beth (Burk) Maxwell and husband Tim, of Cudahy, Wis.; and grandchildren Jason, Keeghan, and Joshua Burk, Lake Geneva, Wis., and James and Dylan Maxwell of Cudahy, Wisc.; his second wife, Donna Burk, Shawnee; daughters, Sgt. Jeanette Conrad and husband Brian, of Wewoka, and Dawn Burk of Shawnee; and grandchildren Deonna and Dorothy Conrad of Wewoka; two sisters Gayle Hulsey and husband Larry, Graham, Texas, and Jennifer (Ginny) Johnston of Wewoka.
Pallbearers will be Brian Conrad, Mike Hulsey, Larry Hulsey, George Johnston, Bud Rowland, and Terry Mosley.
Honorary bearers will be Jason Burk, Keeghan Burk, Joshua Burk, James Maxwell, and Dylan Maxwell.
Anna Mary Kozel Burnett
Funeral mass for former Seminole resident, Anna Mary Kozel Burnett was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Matthews Catholic Church in San Antonio, Texas.
Burnett died Sunday, May 2, 2004, at the age of 97.
She was born Dec. 14, 1906, in El Paso, Texas to Frank and Rosalie Kozel.
At six months of age, she moved with her family to Shawnee, where she spent her childhood and young adulthood.
In 1931, she married Henry Joseph Burnett of Houston, Texas, where they lived until 1962, then moving to Farmington, Springdale and Fort Smith, Ark.
The couple had one daughter, Nancy Anne Burnett.
After her husband died, Burnett relocated to Seminole in 1989, where she was a Seminole resident until 1995.
Burnett was a parishioner at St. Matthews Catholic Church in San Antonio, Texas and while living in Seminole, she was a parishoner at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Burnet was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Burnett in 1977; her sister, Agnes Kozel Diggs Livingston of Seminole in 1997; her brothers-in-law, Wilton Diggs of Seminole in 1951; and J.T. Livingston of Seminole in 1973.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Burnett of San Antonio, Texas; seven nieces, Jane Burke of Houston, Texas, Rosemary Fuchs of Oakland, N.J., Loretta Meisenbacher of Rogers, Ark., Doris Diggs Simpson of Marietta, Ga.(formerly of Seminole), Karen Camarate of Wilton, Conn.; Mary Ann Diggs Ravkind Pugh of McKinney, Texas (formerly of Seminole), and Ramona Sugart of Charlottesville, Va., as well as a large number of great and great-great nieces, nephews and cousins.
