Memorial services with military honors for former Seminole County resident Leon W. Hartley of Lubbock, Texas are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Sanders Memorial Chapel in Lubbock, Texas.
Rev. Ken Horn will be officiating. Cremation will be under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.
The family will be receiving friends from 5 – 6 p.m. Wednesday at Sanders Funeral Home.
Hartley died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004 at his residence in Lubbock. He was born Dec. 31, 1922 in Madill to Frank and Nelia Hartley.
He married Virgie M. Housdon Feb. 6, 1943 in Shawnee. Hartley graduated from Prairie View High School in Earlsboro. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and a Purple Heart recipient.
Hartley was a member of the American Legion Post 7 and was retired from Texas Tech University.
His parents preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife; son L.G. Hartley and wife Anna of Barstow, Calif.; and three grandchildren, Jay Hartley, Christy Hartley and Lisa Hartley.
The family suggests memorials to VistaCare Hospice of Lubbock, Texas.
Vera Heard
Funeral services for longtime Seminole County resident, Vera Mae Heard, of Konawa, are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13 at the Vamoosa Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Vallandingham.
Interment will be at the Lone Dove Cemetery under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.
Heard died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, at the age of 74 at her home in Konawa.
She was born Jan. 29, 1930, in Sasakwa to Lonnie Farlin Baker and Hattie Lou (Cooley) Baker.
She was an associate for Wal Mart Super Center in Ada for several years as well as an employee for Coast to Coast in Konawa.
Heard was a longtime resident of the Vamoosa/ Konawa area and a member of Vamoosa Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, William Triver Heard Jr.; and three brothers, Clyde, Charles and Doug Baker.
She is survived by one son, Dennis Heard of Konawa; one daughter, Imogene Meadows of Tecumseh; one brother, Wallace Baker of Bakersfield, Calif.; one sister, Yvonne Williamson of Snowflake, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
William ‘Bill’ Enloe Heath
Services will be held for William "Bill" Enloe Heath at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Seminole, with Rev. Gary O. Wilburn officiating.
Heath was born July 1, 1925 to Pearl Mae (Hixon) and William Enloe Heath, Sr. in Holdenville. He died July 30, 2004 at his home in Seminole.
He attended school in Holdenville and graduated with the class of 1943. He received his BME in 1950 and MME from the University of Oklahoma.
Heath served in the United States Navy during World War II from June 28, 1943 to Feb. 14, 1946. He was a radioman on the USS LST 222 serving in Korea, Japan, and the Solomon Islands.
In December 1950 he married Wilma Iretta Nicar of Wetumka and they were married for 51 years before her death.
While attending OU, Heath was a member of the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band. He took great pride in being a charter member of the OU Band Alumni Association, which gave him the opportunity to continue to march in Owen Stadium each year at the homecoming football game, even at the age of 78 in October 2003.
The Heath family often times would have the most members present in the Alumni Band at the OU homecoming games. Their son Ron, and daughters Ramona and Rita, were also members of the Pride (1970s), as well as Ron’s son Christopher Heath, a 2002 Pride member.
Heath served as high school band director and choir director in Wetumka, Chandler, Holdenville, Nowata, and Meeker.
He retired from Meeker High School in 1986 but went to teach band part-time in Jones, Bowlegs, Maud, and was the assistant band director with the McLoud High Band at the age of 72.
His talents were also shared through the music of church choirs in several communities. He has touched many lives through music.
Heath was a devoted member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, having received his 50-year membership award in 2002. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for Outstanding and Meritorious Service to Oklahoma Masonry, in November 2002.
In 2001, he was selected as Mr. Mason for the Meeker Lodge. He served as Worshipful Master in Holdenville, Wetumka, Nowata, and Meeker.
His father, two sons, and a grandson are perpetual members in the Holdenville chapter. Through his dedicated lectures over the years, countless men enjoy the fellowship of Masonry.
He was an avid golfer who spent many hours perfecting his game. Heath had an extensive collection of golf trophies that he had won over the years.
Heath loved to dance and play cards whether it be Bridge, Pinochle, or Chicken-Foot. He thoroughly enjoyed life.
He found love again in Dorothy Morgan. They were married in May of 2004. She helped him celebrate each of his final days on the dance floor, golf course, and in church activities. Bill and Dorothy were members of the First United Methodist Church of Seminole, where they had been married.
He is survived by his loving wife of two months, Dorothy (Morgan) Heath of the home; two daughters, Ramona Rowland and her husband Harold of Bartlesville, and Rita Ann Heath of OKC; a son, William E. III (also known as Bill/Dub) and his wife Sherri (Randall) Heath of Meeker.
Additional survivors include; an aunt and uncle, Mildred and Phillip Parks of Seminole; Heath’s grandchildren, Christopher Heath of Norman, Julie Heath of Chickasha, William Heath IV and Diana Heath of Meeker, and Lynn Rowland of Bartlesville; a sister-in-law, Wanda and her husband Calvin Howarth of Holdenville; a brother-in-law, Jack and his wife Pat Nicar of Tulsa; and several nieces and nephews.
Also surviving are Dorothy’s children; Drs. Meredith and Richard Wamsley and their children, Josh, Matthew and Elizabeth Wamsley of Darien, Ill., Sharon and David Cunningham of Rowlett, Texas, their son Tommy and Kelli Cunningham of Norman, Robert and Linda Cunningham of Coppell, Texas, Deborah and Vic Doray and their sons Ben and Dan of Oklahoma City.
Heath was proceeded in death by his first wife, Wilma Iretta (Nicar) Heath; a son, Ron Dale Heath; a daughter, Rebecca Lynn Heath; and his parents, William E. Sr. and Pearl Heath.
Burial will follow the services at Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Masonic Charities Foundation, the American Cancer Society, or the Oklahoma University Foundation Band Scholarship Fund.
Charles Heisler
Graveside services for Seminole County native, Charles Heisler, of Albuquerque, NM, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, June 26 at the Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka.
Services are under the direction of the Stout-Phillips Funeral Home of Wewoka.
Heisler died Monday, June 21, 2004, at the age of 64 at Albuquerque Regional Hospital in Albuquerque, NM.
He was born May 9, 1940, to the late M.L. and Vannie Jordan Heisler, former Wewoka residents.
Ronnie Dean Hendryx
Services for Ronnie Hendryx, a long time Seminole resident, will be held on Wednesday 2p.m. at First Baptist Church. Rev. David McDougal and Rev. Allen Wood will be officiating.
He died July 17, 2004 at Seminole Medical Center. He was born in Seminole on Oct. 13, 1951 to Clyde Edward Hendryx and Mary Imogene (Fleming). Hendryx married Lois Marie (Fowler) on Nov. 10, 1972 in Seminole and owned / operated Hendryx Trucking.
He served in the Army in Vietnam where he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Hendryx was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church and had coached Little League baseball.
Surviving are wife Lois, daughters Holly and Carrie, son Jason, and special nephew Josh Torres, all of the home; mother Mary Imogene, brothers Mike, Jeff, and Scott of Seminole; sisters Susan Kelley of Edmond and Lori Cruce of Seminole; sister-in-law Gayla Melton of Seminole; nieces and nephews Shelly & Josh McCutcheon of Seminole, Melanie Hendryx of Tulsa, Brad & Carissa Hendryx of Seminole, Sarah & Clint Tooley of Seminole, Megan Book of Seminole, Ashleigh Torres of Seminole, Andria Torres of Seminole, Mary Alice Kelley of Edmond, Charles Kelley of Edmond; as well as 12 great nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by father Clyde Edward Hendryx; son Shane Dean; and brother-in-law Charles Kelley.
Mr. Hendryx will be buried at Maple Grove Cemetery, with Swearington Funeral Home arranging the details.
Pallbearers for the services will be John Kramer, Dale Auld, Ronnie Conner, William Adcock, Jerry Sutton, Scott Barnett, and Wayne Babb. Honorary bearers include Don Stuart, Dennis DeShields, Garry Kiker, and Jerald Coym.
Sheron Hendryx
Memorial services for former Seminole County resident, Sheron Cain Hendryx are scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, April 24 at the Wewoka Church of Christ.
Hendryx died April 20, 2004, at the age of 59 in San Antonio, Texas.
She was born Oct. 12, 1945, to Harvey and Bonnie Cain.
Hendryx is the mother of two, Keli and Staci Hendryx and sister to Hershel Cain, Carroll Cain, Raymond Cain, Reba Terrell and Jane Resler.
She also has numerous relatives and friends.
Anna Mae Henry
Funeral services for Seminole resident Anna Mae Henry were held today at 2 p.m. at Middle Creek #2 Baptist Church with Rev. Ellison Philips and Rev. Jimmy Anderson officiating.
Interment took place at Middle Creek #2 Church Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.
Henry died Sept. 18, 2004. She was born on Jan. 31, 1918 to Alex Walker and Annie Harjo in Wewoka.
She left Oklahoma in 1941 and moved to California where she worked and lived until she returned in 1983. She married Joseph Henry in the early 1970’s.
Henry worked as a nurse at a nursing home in California for 13 years. She served as a Women’s Leader at Middle Creek #2 Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; daughter, Mary Jane McGee; three brothers, Jimmy Walker Sr., Terry Walker, and Dave Walker; four sisters, Izora Bruner, Susie Harjo, Liza Walker-Harjo, and Katie Walker-Tiger.
She is survived by her brother Robert Walker of Holdenville; sister Irene Bailey of Wewoka; one grandson; one granddaughter; eight great-grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
Acting as pallbearers for the services were Glen Harjo, Gene Harjo, Jerry Walker, Alvin Walker, Matt Yerby, and Anthony Harjo. The honorary pallbearers were David Ellis, David Proctor, Kenna Harjo, Charley Bailey, and Don Bailey.
Betty Hicks
Funeral services for former longtime Seminole resident, Betty Hicks are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 29 at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Guy Cagle officiating.
Interment will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
Hicks died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at the age of 79 in Grandforks, N.D.
She was born June 24, 1924, in Oklahoma City to Lloyd Edgar Foudray and Rhoda Lelis Harrison.
She was married to Glen Hicks who preceded her in death May 6, 1973.
She was a longtime Seminole resident before moving to Grandforks, N.D. six years ago.
Hicks worked at several former auto dealerships in Seminole
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Faulkner of Shawnee and Deborah Gunderson of Grandforks, N.D.; one sister, Dorothy Jarnigan of Oklahoma City and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Marcous Hill Sr.
Funeral services for Lima resident Marcous Hill Sr. are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday in the Earl M. Temple Memorial Chapel under the direction of Temple and Sons Funeral Directors, Inc. of Oklahoma City.
Interment is to follow services at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Spencer.
Hill died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004. He was born in Maud July 29, 1921 to Robert and Willie Garrett Davidson and was raised by his uncle and aunt, John and Ethel Hill.
He was the Director of Maintenance for the City of Lima and served in the United States Armed Forces.
Hill’s parents, uncle, aunt and sister Lila Osbourne preceded him in death.
His survivors include his wife Mayor Tammy Hill and their three children, Marcous Jr., Christian and Ashley.
