Dorothy Pearson

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident, Dorothy D. Pearson are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 20 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating.

Interment is to follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of the Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.

Pearson Died Thursday, April 15, 2004, at the age of 82 in Tyler, Texas.

She was born Feb. 15, 1922, in Seminole to J.B. DeHart and Katie (Brown) DeHart.

She married Myrl Pearson, who preceded her in death in 1980.

Pearson was a life long resident of Seminole until she went to live with her son in Tyler, Texas in December 2003.

She retired from aircraft assembly at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City.

She attended Seminole Public Schools and was a member of the Harvey Road Baptist Church in Seminole.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Katie DeHart; father, J.B. DeHart; one son, Lonnie Gene Cox Sr.; and her husband, Myrl Pearson.

Pearson is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Wayland and Marty Cox of Tyler, Texas; two grandsons, Lonnie Gene Cox Jr. and Mark Cox; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Betty Peebles

HOUSTON – Funeral services for Betty Peebles, 1944 Wewoka High School graduate, are scheduled for 12 noon Monday at Waltrip Funeral Home.

Interment will follow at Houston National Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 5-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, 1415 Campbell Road.

Peebles died Friday in Houston.

She was born July 19, 1926, in Buffalo, Wyo., to Jewel Saner and Laura Elizabeth (Miller) Holmes.

Peebles grew up in Wewoka and played with the high school band, which qualified for an invitation to play at Soldier Field in Chicago.

She and her husband Aubrey, moved to Maracaibo, Venezuela, in 1957, where they lived for 20 years.

They moved to Houston 28 years ago.

Peebles was preceded in death by her husband.

Survivors include her daughter, Rosemary Wells, Houston; one brother, Lilbern Holmes, Wewoka; one sister, Ruth Roberts, Tulsa; one granddaughter; and her best friend of 68 years, Betty Watson of Seminole.

The family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the Lupus Foundation of America.

Rosa Permetter

Funeral services for Wewoka Nursing Center resident Rosa Lee Permetter, formerly of Earlsboro, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Rock Creek Baptist Church.

Revs. Johnnie Roseburr and Richard Laskey will officiate.

Burial will follow at the Earlsboro Cemetery, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.

Permetter died Friday, April 23, 2004 at the Wewoka Nursing Center at the age of 86.

She was born to Thomas Hamilton Jr. and Ellen (Ledbetter) Hamilton on Aug. 23, 1917 in Rutherfordton, N.C.

She married Coyle Permetter in 1938 in Earlsboro.

Permetter was a cook at Earlsboro public Schools and was a member of Wares Chapel.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one son, Danny L. Permetter.

Permetter is survived by three sons, Donald R. Permetter, John E. Permetter, both of Earlsboro and Coyle L. Permetter, Augusta, Ga.; six daughters, Betty Falato of Washington D.C., Yvonne Thompson, Oklahoma City, Madeline Young, San Jose, Calif., Joyce Foust, Earlsboro, Diane Hall, Oklahoma City and Doris Nichols, Midwest City; one step-daughter, Erma Jo Hammonds, Omaha, Neb.; two brothers, Hubert Hamilton, Lemon Grove, Ga. and Abel Hamilton, San Antonio, Texas; one sister, Lillie Mae Walls of California; 36 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 40 step great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren and 27 great great-grandchildren.

Casket bearers will be John E. Permetter, Jr., Gary Don Permetter, Terry Hill, Larry Nichols Jr., Coyle L. Permetter Jr., and Adrian Permetter.

Honorary bearers will be Roy Winrow, Abel Hamilton, Hubert Hamilton, Dewey Wilson, James D. Hall, Ferdinand Adamson, David Gills and Larry Nichols.

Annie Perry

Funeral services for longtime Seminole County resident, Annie Mae Perry of Wewoka, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5 at the Macedonia Baptist Church in Wewoka with Rev. B.G Renfro of Parkers Chapel Baptist Church officiating.

Interment will follow at Westwood Cemetery in Wewoka under the direction of Myers Mortuary of Wewoka.

Perry died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at the age of 91 at Midwest City Regional Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 23, 1912, in Boley, as the fourth of seven children, to William and Emma Wilson.

She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and aunt.

A few years after her birth, She moved to Wewoka with her family, where she attended school and met the love of her life, Julius Caesar Perry.

She lived in Wewoka most of her life.

They were married Jan. 13, 1929 and honored their wedding vows for 61 years, until her husband preceded her in death.

This union produced three daughters and three sons.

Perry is survived by two sons, James Perry of Oklahoma City and Larry Perry of Malvern, Pa.; one daughter, Velma Perry of Wewoka; two sisters, Delois Echols of Denver, Colo. and Olivia "Deuce" Boone of Omaha, Neb. 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

Bradley Peters

Former Players Son Killed in Accident

The son of a former SSC baseball player was killed in a tragic automobile accident on Tuesday.

Bradley Peters, son of Steve Peters, died when the SUV, in which he and five other students were riding, collided with a school bus on Jan. 13, 2004.

Funeral services were held for Peters at 2 p.m. Friday at the Choctaw High School Activity Center with interment at Arlington Memory Gardens under the direction of Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home of Oklahoma City.

He was born Sept. 22, 1986, in Oklahoma City to Steve and Tracy Peters and lived his life in Choctaw.

His father, Steve Peters played baseball for Seminole State College before going on to compete at OU and then for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Bradley Peters was a member of Choctaw First Baptist Church.

Peters played football and baseball, loved the outdoors and fishing.

He received many awards over the years such as the third grade Friday’s Question Champ, the third grade Math Whiz award, as well as the Masonic Student of Today Award..

He was valedictorian of his ninth grade class, a member of the State and National Honor Societies, Sophomore Student of the Year and August Athlete of the Month.

Peters lettered in varsity football and was the MV Pitcher at Choctaw Invitational Baseball Tournament.

He was preceded in death by his Pop, Jerry Harris and sister, Katelyn.

He is survived by his mother, Tracy and her husband, Steve; two sisters, Sarah and Shelby; his father, Steve and his wife Aimee; one brother, Riley; grandparents, Eulan and Joann Peters and Sharon Harris; as well as a large extended family.

Robert ‘Bob’ Peterson

Former Wewoka resident, Bob Peterson, died Friday, July 30, 2004, in Durant. He was 76.

Peterson owned the Daily Democrat from 1957 to 1981 and still wrote a twice-weekly column.

The son of Robert V. and Berdena (Loy) Peterson, he was born Nov. 11, 1927, in Stillwater.

Peterson attended the University of Oklahoma where he received bachelor and master's degrees in journalism. His father owned the Wewoka Times during his childhood.

He married Sara Ross (Crouch) on Aug. 29, 1949, at Liberty, Mo.

Peterson was a member of the Durant Lions Club, Elks, Durant Country Club and Chamber of Commerce.

He was inducted into the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame and was a member of the Oklahoma Press Association's Half Century Club.

In February, Peterson was the recipient of the Milt Phillips Award, the highest award presented by the OPA.

Peterson enjoyed playing golf and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Sara, of the home; son, Robert W. Peterson and wife Pam, Plano, Texas; daughter, Dorothy Liwai and husband Jack, Durant; granddaughters Katie Peterson and Kai Liwai, Durant, and grandson Maika Liwai, Durant.

William Phenix

Funeral services for former Seminole resident, William H. "Bill" Phenix are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, at the Calvary Temple in Edmond.

Interment will follow in Arlington Memory Gardens in Midwest City under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home of Edmond.

Phenix died Sunday, March 21, 2004, at the age of 75.

He was born Nov. 5, 1928, in Springdale, Ark. but grew up in Seminole.

He served with honor in the Korean War as a member of the United States Army.

He retired from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation in 1992, after 41 years of loyal service.

Phenix loved working with his hands and was an excellent mechanic.

He loved gardening and his favorite past time was fishing.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 24 years, Mary Phenix; his mother, Lora Taylor Phenix Strange; his father, Charlie Phenix; and stepfather, Otis Strange.

Phenix is survived by his children, Tammy Garrigan of Vancleave, Miss., Paula Wood of Edmond and Greg Phenix of Tulsa; stepchildren, Gail Beasley of Bethany and Steve Cyotee of Tulsa; 12 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
