Services for former Seminole County resident, Glenn Joseph Secrest will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30 at the Riverside Church in Norman .
Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, Norman under the direction of Primrose Funeral Home of Norman..
Secrest was born in Wilburton to Mary Ellen O'Donnell and Noah Secrest on Dec. 19, 1922.
He went on to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 26, 2004.
Graduating from Wewoka High School in 1941, he married Priscilla Ann Stokes on Oct. 1 of the same year.
Secrest served in the Air Force during World War II in Korea and the South Pacific from 1943 to 1947.
He then graduated from East Central State College, Ada in 1950 with his Bachelor's Degree and from Oklahoma A & M University with his Master's Degree in Business Administration in 1956.
He began his 23-year teaching and coaching career in 1950 at Billings High School in Billings.
He taught and coached football in Shidler, Pawnee and Wewoka.
"Coach" was at Wewoka High School for eleven years, coaching the Wewoka Tigers to their only State Football Championship in 1966 and a State Track Championship in 1970.
His football players were State Runners-up in 1968 and District Champions in 1966 and 1968-71.
Secrest, honored by his peers, was inducted into the Oklahoma Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1984.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ellen (O'Donnell) Secrest Miller and Noah Secrest; his brother Gale Secrest; son Mike Secrest; and great-granddaughter, Luci Secrest.
Secrest is survived by his wife Priscilla (Stokes) Secrest of Oklahoma City of the home; daughter Patricia Ann Secrest of Oklahoma City; son Dane Jay Secrest and wife, Rita (Williamson) of Norman; daughter-in-law Debra (Martin) Secrest of Norman; sister Geraldine Secrest Bales of Broken Arrow; and sister-in-law Lorene Stokes McClung of Hominy.
He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Stephen Glenn Kiker and wife Julie (Knippelmier), Christopher Michael Secrest and wife Shelia (Campbell), Kristy Ann (Elvik) Perry and husband David, Christen Hope Secrest, Scott Martin Secrest, Daneil Jay Secrest and wife Savanna (Williams), Shawn Alan Hair, Matthew Gale Secrest, and nine great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews, who proudly called him "Peepaw".
Glenn Secrest was greatly loved.
He will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor.
His devotion to his family was a testimony of his love for them.
His family was very important to him and he derived great pleasure from fishing, hunting and camping with his children and grandchildren.
Weekend camp-outs on the Arkansas River will always hold special memories for the children.
Family gatherings on every holiday brought him great pleasure.
We will never forget our "Peepaw".
He will be greatly missed.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Stephen Kiker, Christopher Secrest, Scott Secrest, Daneil Secrest, Shawn Hair, and Matthew Secrest.
Linda Kay Sedlacek
Graveside services for Linda Kay Sedlacek were scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Czech Cemetery in Prague with Doyle Loveland officiating.
The services will be under the direction of Gaskill Funeral Chapel in Shawnee.
Sedlacek, 56, died Oct. 21, 2004 in Meeker. She was born Aug. 21, 1948 to Freeman Evan and Claudine (Ledbetter) Underwood in Shawnee.
She was a 1966 graduate of Shawnee High School and married Johnny Sedlacek on Aug. 31, 1968. The couple resided in Meeker for 36 years.
Sedlacek had worked at the Meeker school cafeteria as the cafeteria supervisor before retiring after 20 years of service. She also decorated cakes for several years following her retirement.
She was an active member in the Meeker community and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Her parents, two brothers Cecil Lessley and Orville Underwood, and sister Wanda Smith all preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Lisa Jonnelle of Meeker and Laura Deann of Seminole; son Jeffrey John Sedlacek of Meeker; and nine grandchildren.
Patricia Seeley
NORMAN – Patricia Jane Seeley, 61, of Seminole, died Aug. 29, 2004, at Whispering Pines Nursing Home, Norman.
At her request no services will be held, but a private family ceremony will be held for spreading her ashes at a later date.
Primrose Funeral Services of Norman will conduct the cremation.
Seeley was born Oct. 16, 1943, in Indianapolis, Ind., to Fredrick and Evelyn Smith.
She was a Baptist by faith and enjoyed camping, fishing and Yahtzee.
She was married to Henry Seeley on Sept. 13, 1967; they were later divorced.
Survivors include three sons, Jeff Seeley, Wewoka, Jason Seeley, Seminole, and Tommy Weaver, Indiana; one daughter, Ronda Weaver, Indiana; one brother, Larry Smith, Indiana; one sister, Debbie Ollier, Indiana; and three grandchildren, Lakyne, Mason and Logan Seeley; and other family and friends.
Cleo Selby
Graveside services for longtime Seminole resident, Cleo Earl Selby are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, April 19 at the Old Mission Wichita Park Cemetery in Wichita, Kan. under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Selby died Thursday, April 15, 2004, at the age of 91 at Midwest City Regional Hospital in Midwest City.
She was born Oct. 3, 1912, in Oklahoma to George Elias Arnold and Mary Lee (Lokey).
She married Dick Selby on Jan. 17, 1930, in Okemah.
She was a retired nurses aide from Seminole Hospital.
She graduated from Okemah High School and was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Selby in 1976 and her son, Earl Selby.
She is survived by one niece, Wanda Arnold Love of Plano, Texas.
Clifford Self
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident, Leonard Clifford Self are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Troglin officiating.
Interment will follow at the Little Cemetery, north of Seminole, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
Self died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at the age of 82 at his home in Seminole.
He was born May 2, 1921, in Hull, Texas to John Harrison Self and Rosey Delila (Randall) Self.
He married Jane Ellen (Myers) Self on April 10, 1941, in Oklahoma City.
Self worked in the oilfield and retired from Sloan Drilling in 1975.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jane Ellen (Myers) Self on March 4, 1977; two sons; three sisters; and two brothers.
Self is survived by three sons, James Hershel Self, Jerry Lee Self and Larry Dee Self, all of Bowlegs; two daughters, Glenda Irene Bryant of Sasakwa and Priscilla Kellean Kerr of Norman; one brother, Charles Self of Wewoka; two sisters, Florene Verbent of San Antonio, Texas and Pearl Pernika of Prague; 14 grandchildren, numerous great grand children; and one great-great grandchild.
Casket bearers will be Elza Rodgers, Bob Northcott, Kenneth King, Thomas Yerby, John Smith and Leonard Davis.
Clyde H. Sharp
Funeral services for Clyde H. Sharp, 76, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church.
Rev. Bob Hammons will officiate.
Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Seminole, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Sharp, 76, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at Seminole Estates Nursing Center.
He was born Aug. 24, 1927, in Webb City, to John N. and Lora Blanche (Morris) Sharp.
He attended Justice School and graduated from Wewoka High School in 1945.
He attended East Central University and joined the US Navy in 1945.
He was discharged a yaer later, and, in 1950, joined the Army National Guard, 179th Tank Company, 45th Division, which was mobilized for the Korean Conflict and deployed to Japan and Korea.
For the last 10 years, he published a newsletter for the 179th and was active in annual reunions, where he played guitar and sang.
Sharp retired on Sept. 1, 1989 from Sun Oil in Seminole, where he was office manager for 37 years.
He also served as supervisor of the satellite offices in Enid, Maysville and Drumright.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir for 50 years. He taught the men’s Sunday School class for 20 years.
Sharp loved to write, loved sports, especially Oklahoma State University, and loved to play and sing country western music, particularly the music of Bob Wills.
He and his wife played and sang duet performances.
He married Dorothy Jane Drake on Sept. 4, 1948, in Wewoka; she survives him of the home.
Sharp enjoyed his family, traveled extensively and loved camping with friends.
Other survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Gay Lynne Sharp and John and Janice Sharp; one daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Bill Scott; one brother, Earl L. Sharp; and seven grandchildren, Stephanie Carter, Drew Sharp, Kenny Sharp, Emily Sharp, Andrew Sharp, Carly Robinson and Sam Scott.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Casketbearers will include the Adult C Men’s Sunday School Class.
Honorary pallbearers include the First Baptist deacons.
The family requested memorial donations be sent to the First Baptist Church Falls Creek Cabin Building Fund.
