Funeral services for longtime Konawa resident William C. "Papaw" Sharver, 98, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at St. Louis First Baptist Church with Rev. Glenn Peck officiating.
Interment will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home.
Sharver died Nov. 2, 2004 at Valley View Regional Hospital in Ada. He was born Oct. 1, 1906 to James Franklin and Minnie (Wade) Sharver in Redland, Indian Territory.
He married Ola Mae Claunch on Dec. 24, 1929. Sharver was a farmer and rancher for many years and a member of St. Louis Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death are his parents, wife, infant daughter, one brother, and two sisters.
He is survived by son Quennion Sharver of Konawa; daughter Wanda Ballard of Ada: four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.
Minerva (Gilbert) Shaw
Graveside services for Seminole resident Minerva Shaw 98, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Edmond with Rev. Roy Robertson officiating.
Services are under the direction of Swearingon Funeral Home.
Shaw died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004 at Pioneer Nursing Home in Seminole.
She was born on Jan. 21, 1906 to Rolla J. and Effie Mae (Wilkerson) Gilbert on their farm in Blaine County.
She graduated from Hitchcock High School, attended Phillips University in Enid and Hills Business School in Oklahoma City.
She met her future husband, John Lindsay Shaw, a Canadian citizen and World War I veteran, who had come to Oklahoma looking for work after an unsuccessful effort in farming in Estavan, Sakatchawan, Canada.
She was working in Oklahoma City and doing part time work as a cook in the boarding house where he was staying. They were married on March 3, 1928, in El Reno in an effort to conceal the marriage in Oklahoma City and avoid work rules against married women.
During the war, she worked at Douglas as a bookkeeper and afterwards at Stickle Lumber.
They lived in Oklahoma City until 1962 when they moved to Seminole.
Since moving to Seminole, she was actively involved in going to the Heritage House until March of this year.
Shaw is survived by her one son, Gilbert Jack Shaw, of Kerrville, Texas; one daughter Martha Willson Pitts, of Seminole; six grandchildren, Ralph Lindsay Shaw, of New Orleans, Kay Ann Cothren, of Poughkeepsie, NY, Billy Joe Willson, of York, Pa. and Bobby Willson, John Pitts and Paul Pitts, all of Seminole.
She also had nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Kassidee Star Sheppard
EMT’s Child Dies in Crash
The six-year-old daughter of a Medicus EMT and the great-granddaughter of former Seminole police officer Dexter Davis died in a car crash this weekend near Henryetta.
Kassidee Star Sheppard, daughter of Chip and Rachelle (Snyder) Sheppard of Dale, was dead at the scene of the accident Sunday.
Chip Sheppard is a medic on the staff of Seminole’s ambulance service.
Funeral services were scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Northridge Church of Christ near Shawnee under the direction of Walker Funeral Service of Shawnee.
The accident occurred at 1:41 a.m. Sunday near I-40 mile marker 235 in Okmulgee County.
According to reports by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the child and five others were riding in a van driven by Sheppard’s aunt, 25-year-old Mindy Sheppard of Meeker.
Another adult, 23-year-old Tyrell Sheppard of Meeker, the brother of Chip Sheppard, was also in the van.
Three of the children were transported by Lifeflight to Tulsa’s St. Francis Hospital in critical condition: Kamryn Jordan, four; Kaylee Sheppard, two; and Jacey Jordan, six.
Officials at St. Francis said Kaylee has been dismissed, and had no record of the other children’s having been admitted.
The only children in child restraint belts, Tylee Sheppard, two, and one-year-old Tegan Jordan, were admitted to Henryetta Hospital in good condition.
Tyrell was transported by Okmulgee Ambulance to Henryetta; injury reports for neither Tyrell nor Mindy were available.
The troopers’ report shows that Mindy Sheppard went to sleep and ran off the left side of the road.
The 1996 Pontiac van, which had been westbound, rolled three times before coming to a rest.
Kassidee was ejected about 68 feet into the eastbound lane and was struck by an unknown semi, according to the report.
Two other children were ejected about 10 feet from the vehicle.
A fund has been established at BancFirst for the family.
Chip is also a firefighter at McLoud and does crash rescue work at Thunder Valley Raceway Park.
Kassidee was born in Twenty-nine Palms, Calif., and was in first grade at Dale Elementary.
Other survivors include a sister, Brenlee Sheppard, and an infant brother, Dason Sheppard, both of the home; grandparents, Mark and Dee Snyder of Dale, Blaine and Jeannette Graybeal of McLoud and Richard and Sherrie Sheppard, Shawnee.
Great-grandparents include Kathy and Dexter Davis, Seminole, Bill and Betty Zuker, Shawnee, Margaret and Jimmy Snyder of Dale, Warren and Velta Graybeal of Shawnee.
One great-great-grandmother, Irene Snyder, Dale, also survives her.
Forestena Opal Shipman
Graveside services for longtime Seminole resident Forestena "Tennie" Shipman is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday.
Services will take place at Little cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Shipman, 64, died July 31, 2004 in Oklahoma City.
She was born in Seminole on October 17, 1939 to Forest Limuel Selfridge and Opal Cecelia (Anson).
She married Carl Shipman on June 8, 1982 in Alice, Texas.
Shipman owned and operated her own restaurant at one time.
She grew up in the Catholic faith and attended the Immaculate Conception Church in Seminole.
Shipman is preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Bill Selfridge and Adoris Joseph Selfridge;
Survivors include her husband, of the home; daughter, Cecilia Ann Sober of Pennsylvania; brothers, Mike Selfridge, Harrah, Don Selfridge, Seminole; sisters, Ella Mae Dobbs, Shawnee, Jeanette Cabiness, Sallisaw; and four grandchildren.
William Shuler
No funeral services are planned for Seminole resident William Harley Shuler, 55, who died Nov. 4, 2004 at his home.
He was born Oct. 14, 1949 to Epoe Harley and Maxine Katherine (Meason) Shuler in California.
Shuler moved to Seminole from California 30 years ago and was a retired landscaper.
He is survived by his mother of California; sons Will Shuler of Seminole and Elliot Shuler of Shawnee; brother Doug Shuler of Washington; two sisters Dorothy West of California and Aronica Keaton of Tecumseh; and two grandchildren.
His father and sister Wendy Shuler preceded him in death.
Robert Lee Simpkins
Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident Robert Lee Simpkins are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, May 6 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Reggie Foster officiating.
Interment will follow at the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole under the direction of the Swearingen Funeral Home.
Simpkins died Friday, April 30, 2004, at the age of 59 at Seminole Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 15, 1944, in Seminole to L.C. Simpkins and Bessie Mae (Phillips) Simpkins.
He was married to Phyllis V. (Pearson) Simpkins on Jan. 12, 1976, in Seminole.
He was a mechanic at Patterson’s garage for many years and worked at the NAPPA Auto Parts, where he retired from in the early 1990’s.
He often worked odd jobs around town and never met a stranger.
He willing to help anyone who needed it.
He was well liked by many in the community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and grandparents, Willie Phillips, Ethel Clark and Laura Phillips.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Simpkins of the home; one son, Marcus A. Pearson of Mustang; two daughters, Catrina R. Simpkins of Seminole and Robin Simpkins of Texas; five brothers, James Simpkins of Fresno, Calif., Sam Simpkins of Seminole, Donald Simpkins of Shawnee, L.C. Simpkins Jr. and Terry Simpkins, both of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Shirley Simpkins of Kansas City, Mo. and Sherry Carroll of Ft. Washington, Md.; and two grandchildren.
Casket bearers will be Tommy Lee Payne, Ronald Seay, Bobby Payne, Waldo Payne, Roger Harris and Eugene Carter.
Honorary Bearers will be nephews and great nephews.
J.D. Sims
Graveside services for J.D. Sims are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the Friends Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Cromwell with Rev. Paskel Bevan officiating. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
Sims, 68, died on Aug. 24, 2004 in Shawnee. He was born on July 13, 1936 in Crystal Springs, Ark. to Julius and Mary Elizabeth (Reich) Hidreth.
He married Shir-Loy Jean Chapman on Dec. 16, 1957 in Tulsa and was a resident of Okemah.
Sims retired from Ford Glass Plant where he had been an inspector for many years. He was a member of the Friends Freewill Baptist Church in Cromwell and the Elks Lodge in Broken Arrow.
His parents and a half-brother, Homer Hildreth preceded him in death.
Sims’ survivors include his wife; son Jay Dee Sims of Seminole; daughter Elizabeth Sims of Meeker; brother Ray Hildreth; and four grandchildren.
Ryan Sinor
Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident, Ryan Matthew Sinor were scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 27 at the Fairview Baptist Church with Mark Sinor officiating.
Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of the Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
He died Saturday, April 24, 2004, at the age of 22 at Seminole Medical Center.
Sinor was born Dec. 14, 1981, in Oklahoma City to Charles Sinor and Mickey (O’Hagan) Sinor.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Willie Mae Phillips and Gene Sinor.
He is survived by his parents, Mickey Sinor and Charles Sinor of Seminole; six brothers and sisters-in-law, Wade and Tammy Sinor of Seminole, Mark and Mindy Sinor of Edmond, Keith and Marta Sinor of Edmond, Eric Sinor of Seminole and Paul Sinor of Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Denise (Sinor) Smith of Moore, Nicole and Dathan Jay of Edmond and Amanda and Wesley Lester of Germany.
He is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Robert O’Hagan of Fond du Lac, Wis. and Lillian O’Hagan of Whitelaw, Wis.; 12 nieces and nephews, Matthew Sinor, London Lester, Micah, Mnason and Joshua Sinor, Denysha Smith, Jahlysa Smith, Adrainna Smith, Bailey Sinor, Haley Sinor, Whitney Sinor and Alexandrea Lester.
Pallbearers were Wade, Mark, Keith, Eric and Paul Sinor and Dathan Jay.
