Funeral services for Seminole County resident, Lillie Ann (Qualls) Snyder of Wewoka will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 15 at the Gleaners Holiness Church in Wewoka, with Rev. Larry Chesser officiating.
Interment will be in Little Cemetery, under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka.
Snyder died Sunday, April 11, 2004, at the age of 88 in Norman.
She was born on March 4, 1916, in Washita, Ark. to Robert Lee and Easter Helen (Reed) Qualls.
She married Ray F. Snyder on April 28, 1933, in Shawnee.
The couple was married almost 71 years.
Qualls was the minister of the Pentecostal Church of God, in Medford, Ore. from 1947-1965, when she retired from the ministry.
She and her husband moved to Wewoka in 1975.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Ray Snyder, of the home; one brother, Ed Qualls of Little; and other family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Qualls, Roy Qualls, Ned Tucker, Lonny Stevens, Johnny Young, and Harold Haas.
Sylvia Soule
Funeral services for Seminole resident, Sylvia Pauline Soule are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, June 10 at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Danny Fisher and Ralph Jones officiating.
Interment will follow at the Beggs Cemetery in Beggs under the direction of the Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
Soule died Monday, June 7, 2004, at the age of 89 at Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City.
She was born April 8, 1915, in Lovell to Dave Samuel Seal and Laura Ella (Foreman) Stealey.
She married Philander Bartlett "PB" Soule on July 1, 1934, in Beggs.
She moved to Seminole in 1942, from Beggs.
She was a homemaker and a member of Immanuel Fellowship Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, PB Soule on June 29, 1991; one daughter, Laura Stafford on May 30, 1988; father, Dave Seal; step father, John Stealey; mother, Laura Stealey; brother, Raymond Seal and one sister. Elsie Stealey.
She is survived by two sons, Phillp Soule of Bowlegs and Randy Soule of Seminole; one daughter, Phyllis Davis of Seminole; one brother, Paul Stealey of Seminole; two sisters, Midge Hewit of Bowlegs and Pearl Davis of Prague; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Casket bearers will be Rodney Soule, Nolan Davis, Aaron Davis, Matt Steirt, Phil Lawrence, James Tiger. Bill Davis and Lindy Rowland.
Honorary bearers will be Mickey Shaw, Russell Gibson, Jim Hutton, Buck Buchanan and Mike Scheller.
Billy Sparkman
Funeral services for Seminole County native, Billy Joe "Bill" Sparkman of Harrah will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 8 at the Harrah United Methodist Church with Rev. Henry Bell officiating.
Interment will follow at Memory Lane Cemetery, Harrah under the direction of Smith~Parks Funeral Service in Harrah.
Sparkman went to be with his Lord on April 5, 2004, at the age of 78 in Harrah.
He was born on July 25, 1925, in Wewoka to Thomas Lee and Betty Pearl (Brooksher) Sparkman.
He graduated from Shawnee High School and Oklahoma Baptist University, Shawnee.
Sparkman was stationed in Hawaii for 38 months while serving in the United States Navy.
Bill married Dorothy Erbin on June 9, 1950, and they moved to Harrah in 1957.
Dorothy preceded him in death after 53 years of marriage.
Bill worked in the glass business most of his life.
He started his own glass business, Central Glass Company in Shawnee, operating it until closing in October, 2003.
He donated his glass shop to the Pottawatomie County Historical Society in Shawnee.
He was a member of the McLoud Masonic Lodge, a Shriner, and an active member of the Harrah United Methodist Church.
Bill was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother and two sisters.
Survivors include four sisters and one brother-in-law, Lee Conley of Seminole, Eileen and Joe Kelley of Oklahoma City, Thelma White of Seattle, Wash. and Grace Alcorn of Athens, Texas; many nieces, nephews, great niece and nephews, two God-daughters, other relatives, friends, and faithful companion Annie, the Dachshund.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Harrah United Methodist Church.
Clyde ‘Skeeter’ Spencer
Funeral services for lifelong Seminole County resident, Clyde "Skeeter" Spencer of Wewoka are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12 at the Macedonia Baptist Church in Wewoka with Rev. Clyde Cochran of Rock Hill Baptist Church officiating.
Interment will follow at Westwood Cemetery under the direction of Myers Mortuary of Wewoka.
Spencer died Thursday, Jan 8, 2004, at the age of 79 at Unity North Health Center in Shawnee.
He was born Dec. 10, 1924, in Wewoka to L.C and Elzora Spencer.
He lived in Seminole County all his life.
He worked at Tinker Field Air Force Base for 30 years, Kelsey Hayes for 12 years and was most recently employed at United Methodist Church in Wewoka.
He was a member of Rock Hill Baptist Church and served in World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
He is survived by his wife, Herlena Kemp Spencer of the home; two sons, Louis Kemp of Wewoka and Gene Kemp of Shawnee; his daughters, Pauline Davis of Wewoka, Wanda Williams and Clide T. Bruner of Oklahoma City and Vernice James of Norman; one brother, Jimmy Spencer of Long Beach, Calif.; 44 grandchildren and a host of great grand children.
James O. Spiller
Funeral services for former Seminole County resident James O. Spiller are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Norman.
Visitation will be held from 6 – 9 p.m. on Thursday at Havenbrook Funeral Home. Interment will follow service at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole.
Spiller, 82, of Norman died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004 in Norman. He was born Nov. 15, 1919 in Kusa to Luther O. and Nina Spiller.
He attended school in Henryetta, Ponca City and Bowlegs.
Spiller enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in November 1937 and retired form the Marines on June 30, 1959 as a Captain.
During World War II he was a member of units that defended Midway Island and participated in the landing and capture of Okinawa and Korea.
He married Thelma Lois Higdon on Dec. 12, 1943 in Seminole. During his career in the Marine Corps, he and his wife, Thelma, enjoyed living and traveling in California, Oklahoma, Mississippi, North Carolina and South Carolina.
The Spillers moved to Norman on July 1, 1959 due to the educational advantages of the city. J.O. and his three children graduated from OU, while his wife Thelma worked for the University.
J.O. worked for the State of Oklahoma until 1982 in various positions. He was Business Administrator for the Department of Mental Health for five years, State Controller for one year, Financial Advisor for the House and Senate for two years, Director of State Finances for six years and Director of the State Retirement System for five years.
He served on various boards at McFarlin United Methodist Church.
His parents and a sister, Joyce Deming preceded him in death.
Spiller is survived by his wife, Thelma L. Spiller of Norman; his daughter, Linda J. Maltezos and husband George of Denver, Colo.; his sons, Dr. James D. Spiller of Evansville, Ind., and Bruce A. Spiller of San Diego, Calif.

Edmonia Lyons Stanfield
Edmonia Lyons Stanfield, born Jan. 21, 1909, in Mena, Ark., died Aug. 25, 2004, and enchanted all around her all 95 years.
She graduated from Poteau High School, attended Oklahoma Baptist University, but cut her academic career short to marry Cecil Stanfield in 1929.
From then on, she was his companion and counselor until his death in 1997.
Cecil worked as a pharmacist in Shawnee, where Celia was born, and then bought his own drugstore in Seminole in 1932, where Neil was born.
It was the depression, and Edmonia rode along with Cecil on his motorscooter to the store (until a wreck changed her mind about the obligations of a wife).
She served as director of the Seminole Little Theater in the 1940s and principal of the Sunday School in the First Methodist Church of Seminole for 30 years.
She opened a gift shop and wedding business in the drugstore and operated that until the sale of both businesses in 1985.
After their retirement, Edmonia and Cecil moved to Tulsa in 1993, where she was a member of the Southern Belle Garden Club and Chapter C.U. of PEO.
"Mom-mom" was the true matriarch of the family.
She was witty to the end, always a lady, religious in her thoughts, and will be missed by all who knew here and who appreciated her strength and unfailing love.
Four brothers, a sister and a grandson, Paul Rosenberger, preceded her.
She leaves a daughter, Celia Rosenberger, and a grandson, Mark Rosenberger, both of Tulsa; a son and daughter-in-law, Neil and Barbara Stanfield, Oklahoma City; a granddaughter and her husband, Alyson and Rob Harrington, Golden, Colo.; a grandson and wife, Blake and Shelly Stanfield, Oklahoma City; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Eunice Nolley, Tulsa; and many treasured relatives and friends.
Services will be conducted by Rev. Bill Mason at the Chapel of Asbury United Methodist in Tulsa at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 27.
Private interment at Memorial Park will precede the services.
The family requests that donations be made to the Building on Faith Fund at Asbury United Methodist Church in lieu of flowers.
Martha Stanko
Graveside services for Seminole resident, Martha Eleanor (Morris) Stanko were scheduled for Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at the Little Cemetery, north of Seminole, with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating, under the direction of the Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
Stanko died Saturday, March 20, 2004, at the age of 68 in Seminole.
She was born Sept. 9, 1935, in Chicago, Ill. to Harry Morris and Elenor (Wege) Morris.
She worked in a market as a checker her entire life until retirement in 1976.
She moved to Seminole four years ago from Los Angeles, Calif.
She attended the First Baptist Church in Seminole.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Ellie Jo Stanko.
Stanko is survived by three sons, Rick DeJohn of Seminole, Don DeJohn of Los Angeles, Calif. and Ron Stanko of San Fernando Valley, Calif.; one daughter, Martha Rae Stanko of Seminole; one brother, David F. Morris of Los Angeles, Calif.; one sister, Lois of Los Angeles, Calif.; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
