Funeral services for former Seminole County resident Frank Dudley Brand were held Sept. 10, 2005 at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka.
The services were under the direction of Mercer-Adams Funeral Home of Bethany.
Brand died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005 at his home in Tulsa. He was born Feb. 28, 1926 in Sasakwa to John W. and Nellie Brand.
The family moved to Wewoka and that is where he attended school. He worked at Safeway for two years, starting when he was in the ninth grade.
At the age of 17 he hitchhiked to Wilberton, Calif. where his mother lived and enlisted in the United States Navy.
He trained at the United States Naval Training Center in San Diego, Calif. Brand served in the meat butcher’s shop in five major battles during World War II.
Following his discharge from the service in 1945, he married and lived in Washington for 25 years.
Brand returned to Oklahoma and attended a tech school in Okmulgee to train as an electrical technician.
He then joined the National Guard and was mobilized for the Korean War. His company shipped out to Japan first and then on to Korea.
Brand was a powder man who experienced his ship being dive-bombed and weathered a typhoon.
His parents; three sisters, Mable Harbert, Oma Chaffin and Iva "Dake" Hurt and four brothers, Johnnie, James, Bill and Homer Lee preceded him in death.
Surviving is his wife, Juanita of Tulsa; two daughters, Chrystal of Alaska and Rebecca of Oregon; son, Doug of Washington; two stepchildren, Lanell Curry of Tulsa and Dean page of Springfield, Mo.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Thank you Uncle Frank, for serving in two wars to preserve our freedom.
Alfred Brannon
Services for former Seminole resident Alfred Brannon are scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Wilbert Tripplett officiating.
Interment will follow at Earlsboro Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Lunch will be served at Galilee Baptist Church following the service.
Alfred Brannon passed away, Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005 in Shawnee at the age of 91. He was born on Aug. 19, 1914 to Robert and Nellie (Ennis) Brannon in Earlsboro.
He served in the United States Army during World War II and was retired from Tinker Air Force Base.
His parents; one daughter, Betty Lou Bennett; three sisters, Cora Amy, Ethel Pruitt, and Lonada Few; five brothers, Frank, Robert, Henry, Essau, and Jacob Brannon, and one grandson, Billy Gene Bennett, Jr, precede him in death.
He is survived by son-in-law, Billy Gene Bennett, Sr.; one brother, Isaac Brannon of Shawnee and two sisters; Juanita Brannon of Earlsboro and Bulena Stillwell of Los Angeles, Calif.
In addition, he is survived by four grandchildren; Rita Wright, Carolyn Bennett, Jerry Bennett, and Anita Bennett; nine great-grandchildren, numerous great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be the nephews.
Emily Branscum
Funeral services for former Seminole County resident Emily Jean (Owen) Branscum are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Landmark Baptist Church, 7th and Otoe, Perry, Okla. under the direction of Palmer Marler Carberry Funeral Home Stillwater.
Pastor Mike Peercy and Bro. Mike Raines will officiate. Committal service will follow in Vamoosa Cemetery east of Konawa at 3 p.m.
Branscum died Nov. 28, 2005. She was born May 2, 1930 north of Konawa to Charles Arthur and Maggie Irene (Brewer) Owen.
Emily and Edward Leon Branscum were married Feb. 6, 1953 and enjoyed nearly 53 years together.
Her parents and her brothers Layton, Carlton, Roy, Clarence and Dewey preceded her in death.
Surviving is her husband Leon of the home, three sisters, Helen Renfro of Oklahoma City, Faye Murray of Moore and Virgie Torres of Bethany; two brothers, Ray Owen of Lafayette and twin brother, Elmer Owen of Oklahoma City; six sons, Gene Branscum and wife Brenda of Ponca City, OK; Ron Branscum of Perry, Charles Branscum of Stillwater, Randy Branscum of San Antonio, Texas, Jerry Branscum of Ada and Jim Branscum of Perry.
Six grandsons, eight granddaughters and six great-grandchildren also survive her.
Visitation will be at Landmark Baptist Church in Perry from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. at Palmer Marler Carberry Funeral Home in Stillwater.
The family suggests that memorials can be made to Landmark Baptist Church Mission Fund 1408 N. 7th, Perry, OK
Joyce Branscum
Funeral services for former Seminole resident Joyce Branscum are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Chapel in Oklahoma City with graveside services following at 1 p.m. at the Calvary Cemetery, Shawnee.
Joyce Irene Branscum, of Oklahoma City, passed away Nov. 5, 2005. She was the daughter of Cecil Baxter and Evelyn Peltier born March 8, 1927 in Shawnee.
Her father, mother, the father who raised her, William Hinton, and her best friend in life and sister, Jeanne Marie Lathan, preceded her in death.
Joyce was raised and attended school in Bethel, graduating Bethel High School in May 1945.
She married her childhood sweetheart, Truman Branscum June 7, 1945. They made their home in Seminole where they raised their three children.
Joyce helped build Hillcrest Apartments and started Taco Hut restaurant while in Seminole.
She was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce, Modern Literature, Republican Party, the Alzheimer’s Association, garden clubs and several other civic organizations.
But more than anything she dearly loved being a mother to her children and grandmother to her grandchildren.
She had a fierce pride in her Potawatomi Indian heritage and enjoyed learning about the culture as well as teaching her children about it.
Joyce has lived in the Oklahoma City area since 1980. Later in life, Joyce married and spent several happy years with B.L. Moore to whom she has remained very close with.
She is survived by her three children, Barry Branscum, Leslie Masilon, Lisa Rumsey; grandchildren Brooke Rumsey, Matthew Masilon and Trent Masilon; brother William E. Hinton and his family; sister Kathy Baxter; nieces Susan Worthington and Terri Ann Harbison as well as several other nieces and nephews.
All who loved Joyce knew of her love of flowers but those wishing to make memorial donations may do so to the Alzheimer’s’ Association.
Wilton Brewster
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Wilton "Kenneth" Brewster are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Scott King to officiate.
Interment is to follow services at Rest Haven memorial Gardens under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Brewster, 61, died Thursday, May 12, 2005 at home. He was born Sept. 25, 1943 in Hollis to William Elliott Brewster and Wilma Maxine (Jones) Brewster.
He married Carolyn Sue Robinson Jan. 13, 1994 in Mulberry, Ark.
Brewster was a veteran of the Oklahoma National Guard and was employed with Oil and Gas Service, Warren American Oil Company and NBI Services.
He was a member of the Church of Christ. His father preceded him in death.
Surviving is his mother, Wilma Brewster of Lubbock, Texas; wife Carolyn Brewster of Seminole; two sons, Scott Brewster of Canadian, Texas and Joe Brent Brewster of Lake Charles, La.; three stepsons, Chris Melton and Gary Smith, both of Shawnee and Danny Smith of Ardmore; two brothers, Keith Brewster of Amarillo, Texas and Bryan Brewster of Edmond; sister Cynthia King of Lubbock, Texas and seven grandchildren.
Haskel Thomas ‘Hack’ Brock, Sr.
Funeral services for Seminole resident Haskel Thomas "Hack" Brock, Sr. are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Harold Turner officiating.
Interment is set to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Brock was born Dec. 1, 1950, in Cove, Ark. to Delton Lawrence Brock and Ruby Jewel (Arthur) Brock Bemo.
On Nov. 8, 1968, he married Patricia Ann "Patty" (Nelson) Brock in Oklahoma City.
Brock had worked in the oilfield and as a carpenter framing houses.
He moved to Seminole from Oklahoma City in 2004.
Brock was preceded in death by his father, Delton Lawrence Brock in 1991.
He is survived by his mother, Ruby Bemo of Seminole; wife, Patricia Ann "Patty" Brock of the home; one son, Haskel Thomas Brock, Jr. of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Regina Ann Smith of Oklahoma City and Shanda Lynette Brock of Houston, Texas; one brother, Delton Brock of Seminole; two sisters, Dorothy Loving of Seminole and Norma Benedict of Oklahoma City; and 10 grandchildren.
Beauty Bill Brown
Graveside services for former Sasakwa resident Beauty Bill Brown are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Factor-Brown Cemetery in Sasakwa with Rev. Wes Martin officiating.
Brown died Wednesday, July 27, 2005, in Oklahoma City Hospital at the age of 57.
He was born on Oct. 16, 1947, in Ada to Johnny Brown and Mabel Wood Brown.
Brown graduated from Sasakwa schools and then attended Oklahoma University and received a BA degree in history from Southeastern Oklahoma University in Durant. He then attended the University of Florida to further his education.
He worked for the Department of Human Services as a social worker and served on the Sasakwa School Board.
He married Jacalyn Carter on June 1, 1991 in Holdenville.
Brown was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Jacalyn Brown of the Home; sons, John Dorsey Brown of the home, Matthew Hamilton of Atwood, and Chad Hamilton of Holdenville; brothers, Stan Brown of Seminole and John R. Brown of Whitehorse in Yukon Territory, Canada; and three grandchildren.
Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips funeral Home in Wewoka.
