Charles ‘Gene’ Bussey

Graveside services for longtime Maud resident Charles "Gene" Bussey are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Cummings Cemetery in Maud with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating.

The services are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home

Bussey, 60, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005 at McAlester Hospital. He was born March 23, 1944 in Maud to W. Frank and Anna Lucille (Work) Bussey

He married Linda Jenelle Houck in Colorado on Oct. 10, 1969. Bussey was a retired truck driver for Miller Trucking Company of Stroud,

Bussey served in the United States Army from 1963-1964 during the Berlin Airlift. He was a member of the American Legion and of the Oddfellows in Maud.

His parents, wife (April 25, 2001) and one brother Jimmy Bussey (July 3, 1989) all preceded him in death.

Surviving him are three sons, Terry Shawn Bussey of New Port, Ark., Zach Bussey of Chandler and Timmothy Harper of Lexington; three daughters, Tamara Harper of Shawnee, Michelle Hamilton of Nevada and Cathy Bussey of Florida; two brothers, David Bussey of Seminole and Mike Bussey of Maud; three sisters, Erma Taff and Sandie Joplin both of Maud and Nora "Sister" Brenner of Kalispell, Mont. and numerous grandchildren.

Casket bearers for the services will be Mike Bussey, David Bussey, Ronnie Stackhouse, Davy Bussey, Aaron Russell and Jason Bussey.

Wilma Maxine Whitlock Byerly

Friday, Oct. 7, 2005 was the day that the Lord chose to call Wilma Maxine Whitlock Byerly home.

Funeral services for Wilma are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at the Spaulding Community Center in Spaulding.

Elders Freeman Whitlock, Jim Collier, and Carl Edgerton officiated the services.

Interment followed services at the Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.

Wilma passed from this earth at Carl Albert Indian Hospital in Ada after a lengthy and courageous battle with a variety of illnesses.

She was born on Sept. 24, 1932 to Russell and Ruth (Goss) Whitlock. Wilma attended school at Tate, Justice and Spaulding, graduating in 1950.

Wilma married Floyd Byerly, November 21, 1950. Floyd preceded her in death on Aug. 9, 1988. Her father and brother, Frank Whitlock, also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her mother, Ruth Whitlock, of rural Wewoka; her children, Brenda Barbe and her husband, Chris and her son, Terry Byerly, all of Spaulding; two grandchildren, Becki Phillips and her husband Craig of Spaulding, David Barbe and his wife Lori of Holdenville; five great-grandchildren, Michaela, Gracie, Brody, Kaden and Tanner.

In addition, on brother, Freeman Whitlock and his wife of Jean of Prague; two sisters, Sybil Byerly and her husband Clyde of Holdenville and Darla Sisco and her husband Roy of Wewoka; two sisters-in-law, Oleta Smith of Muskogee and Joann Macon of Ada; cousins, Dorothy Fitzpatrick and Nora Lee Akin of Holdenville, several nieces, nephews and other relatives survive her.

Wilma was a very caring and compassionate person. One of her greatest joys was in being able to help others.

She worked with handicapped children at Sasakwa School and also cared for some elderly neighbors. Her spirit was truly a selfless one.

Wilma also deeply enjoyed caring for her family, pets and her cattle. In years past, she also loved farming, gardening, canning and playing softball.

Her kind heart will be missed by all who knew her.

Pallbearers for the services are Randy Tompkins, Ray Stafford, Mike Goodson, Bob Allen, Ryan Brewer and Richard Nolen.

Honorary bearers are Floyd Johnson, Bobby Taylor, Jim Allford, Dellis Timmons, Johnny Darrell Mayfield and Scotty Brown.

Virginia Mae ‘Ginny’ Byers

Funeral services for former Seminole resident Virginia Mae "Ginny" Byers are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bill Eisenhour Northeast Chapel. Services are to be directed by Bill Eisenhour.

Interment is set to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Northeast Funeral Home of Oklahoma City.

Byers died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, at the age of 69.

She was born Feb. 11, 1935, to Dutch and Anna Sparks in Seminole.

A member of the Baptist church and Eastern Star, Byers was self-employed in the mobile home rental business.

She also loved crafts and people.

Byers was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of over 40 years, Louie Byers.

She is survived by one son, Dutch Byers and his wife, Karen; one daughter, Tina Kaasc and husband, Darryl; grandchildren, Crystal, Steph-anie, Heather, Derek Byers, Wesley, Whitney Fowler; great-grandchild, Ethan; two sisters, Juanita Garaman and Wilma Wainner and many special friends.

Walter Cagg

Funeral services for former Seminole resident Walter Albert Cagg are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Mae Lois McGrew to officiate.

Interment is to follow at Wolf Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Cagg, 66, of Anadarko, died Sunday, July 10, 2005 at Physician’s Hospital in Anadarko. He was born Sept. 8, 1938 in Blanchard to Walter Cagg and Mary Fitzwater.

He married Clarice Conway on June 3, 1995 in Anadarko and was disabled.

His parents; one brother, Tim Cagg; son Patrick Cagg and daughter Gayla Cagg preceded him in death.

Surviving is his wife Clarice Cagg of Anadarko; three sons, John Cagg of Oklahoma City, Walter Wayne Cagg of Hot Springs, Ark. and Wesley Cagg of Mangum; two daughters, Shona Cagg of Mangum and Angela Watts of Broken Arrow; one stepson Harry Boykins Jr. of Oklahoma City and one stepdaughter Shelonna Boykins-Griswold of Lawton.

In addition, two half-brothers, Bill Tennison of Tahlequah and John Tennison of Kansa; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild survive him.

Pallbearers will be John Cagg, Darin Greene Cagg, Rod Palmer, Charles Hodges, Bill Watts and Justin Cagg.

James Rhodes Calder

James Rhodes Calder, 82, was born Nov. 18, 1922, in Dallas, Texas, to James and Annie Rhodes Calder.

He passed on Feb. 4, 2005, at his home.

Jim attended Sunset High School in Dallas, Texas.

He went into the U.S. Navy in 1942. He was a first class seaman and was discharged in January of 1946.

He returned to Dallas where he worked at Ford Motor.

Jim married Florence May English on April 23, 1960, They lived in Duncanville, Texas.

Jim retired in 1977 from Ford and worked for Shield’s and Lee Survey Company until 1980.

Jim and Flornce moved the Seminole area in 1980, then moved to Oklahoma City in 1999, where they resided with their niece, Janet Rains; grand-niece Shaunda Root and great-grand niece Jessica Root.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents.

An old-fashioned wake will be held in his honor on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. in his home.

Robert Harrison Caldwell

Graveside service for Seminole resident Robert Harrison Caldwell are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Memorial Park. Pastor Gary Wilburn of United Methodist Church in Seminole is set to officiate.

Resthaven Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Robert died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, in Seminole. He was 79.

Robert was born in Woodward to Mr. Harry Robert Caldwell and Mrs. Lillian Lee Moss Caldwell Robertson on April 28, 1925.

He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1943 and in 1945 he graduated from the Merchant Marine Academy in King’s Point, N.Y. where he was commissioned as a naval ensign in the Navy and served in the merchant marines for two years.

He married Patricia Ferguson in New York City, N.Y. on Nov. 10, 1945, and has been happily married for 59 years.

He was a member of AQHA, OQHA, APHA, and PHBA.

His career was working in the field of oil and gas production.

Robert was preceded in death by both parents; stepfather, H.Y. Robertson; two sisters, Dortha Lee Quinn and Harrilene Wolfe; and stepbrother, Richard Caldwell.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Caldwell of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jo Caldwell of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughter, Joan C. Auderer of Shawnee; and daughter and son-in-law Laurie and Jimmie Tuggle of Earlsboro.

He is further survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Richard Calger

A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday for former Seminole resident Richard Kieth Calger at Little Cemetery with Larry Chesser officiating.

Calger, 51, of Oklahoma City, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2004. He was born Oct. 3, 1953 in Marlow to Acie and Velma Calger.

He spent most of his adult life in the restaurant business.

His son, Darron Kieth Calger; his parents; and two brothers, Ralph and Harold Calger all preceded him in death.

Surviving him are his son, Jarrod Calger of Norman; grandson, Jacob Calger; sisters, Peggy Bebout, Wanda Sturmon, Marilyn Rains and Barbara Townsend, all of Purcell, Shirley Beaty and Sue Harrison of Wewoka, Judy Calger, Berta Harris and Jane Calger of Seminole; brothers, Danny Calger and Donnie Calger of Seminole, and James Calger of Healdton.

JoAnn (Bates) Cannady

Graveside services for former Wewoka resident JoAnn Cannady are scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka with Rev. Delbert Akin officiating.

Cannady died at her home in Avenal, Calif. on Friday, April 15, 2005. She was 63.

She was born April 19, 1941, to George Bates and Nona (Hanson) Bates in Bentonville, Ark.

Cannady graduated from Wewoka High School in 1960.

She worked as a seamstress and waitress.

She was a member of the Baptist church.

Cannady was preceded in death by her parents, George and Nona Bates; brother, Larry Bates; sister, Lucille (Bates) Bush; infant son Toby and grandson, Christopher.

She is survived by five daughters, April Bravo, Penny Suchanek, Dina Bollinger, Sheila Verdugo, Angela Bueno all of Avenal, Calif.; one son, Eddie Murray of Bakersfield, Calif.; and sister Margaret Mouser of Ada.
