W.F. ‘Bill’ Chambers

Funeral services for Wewoka graduate W.F. "Bill" Chambers are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday in the Vondel Smith Mortuary North Chapel with interment following at Rose Hill Burial Park.

Formal viewing and visitation is set for Friday from 6-8 p.m.

Chambers died Tuesday, June 28, 2005. He was 63 years old.

He was born July 11, 1941, in Oklahoma City to Robert and Hope Chambers.

In his early professional life, Chambers worked as a National Bank Examiner and later as a banker in Blackwell, Yukon, Edmond, and Wewoka.

He was an active member of Toastmasters and had an interest in music, photography, and traveling.

Chambers worked as a physics teacher at John Marshall High School.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bob, in 1973, and his uncle, Roland, in 1998.

Survivors include his mother, Hope Chambers; son, Clay Chambers; and two grandsons, all of Oklahoma City.

Donations may be made to Bill Chambers Memorial Scholarship Fund for Excellence in Physics in care of John Marshall High School.

Orban Chambless

Funeral services for the father of Seminole resident Mike Chambless were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 14 at First Baptist Church of Davis with Rev. James Densman and Rev. Finis Steelman officiating.

Interment for Orban Ray Chambless took place at Green Cemetery in Davis under the direction of Krien Funeral Home.

Chambless, 81, died Friday, Feb. 11, 205 at his home in Davis. He was born March 8, 1923 in Woodland to Floyd Quinton and Willie Beaulah (Allday) Chambless.

Following graduation from Woodland High School in 1940 he served in the Civilian Conservation Corp. at Cold Springs, Wyo. While stationed in Pearl Harbor on the USS Tangier on Dec. 7, 1941, his ship was the first to fire on the attacking Japanese planes.

He was awarded a presidential citation for his actions. In 1944, he was a crewmember aboard the USS Samuel B. Roberts, which was involved in the largest sea battle in naval history, the Battle of Leyte Gulf in the Philippines. He received the Purple Heart Award for his wounds.

While on home leave he met Norma Jo Dickerson and they married Dec. 30, 1944. After the war, he used his Navy signalman skills to launch a new career with the Santa Fe Railroad until his retirement in 1985.

Chambless was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Donna Chambless, brother Dale Chambless and sisters Doris Smith and Myra Chambless.

Surviving him is his wife; son Mike Chambless of Seminole; three daughters, Janie Wells of Pauls Valley, Judy Chadwick of Davis and Jana Mann of Sulphur; two brothers, Floyd Chambless of Ardmore and Lynn Chambless of Davis; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers for the service were Branden Wells, Jason Chambless, Aaron Schettler, Brenden Lewis, Buster Coppenbarger and Junior Coppenbarger.

The honorary pallbearers were Burke Healey, Buddy Jones, Dale Noland, Bill Dulaney, Fred Dale, Frank Heaton and Charles Robertson.

Reetha Chase

Graveside services for longtime Seminole resident Reetha Mae Chase are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Maple Grove Cemetery with Leo Streater officiating.

The services will be under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Chase, 88, died Monday, April 18, 2005 at Mercy Health Center of Oklahoma City. She was born Nov. 12, 1916 in Drumright to Ed and Dovie May (Stafford) Stephens.

She married Louis Elmer Chase on June 14, 1936 in Allen. He preceded her in death Dec. 20, 1997.

Reetha was a homemaker and member of Ideal Street Baptist Church in Seminole.

Her husband; daughter, Barbara Chase; two sons, Charles Russell Chase and James Edward Chase; one granddaughter, Taunya Renae Chase and one grandson, Eric Chase all preceded her in death.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Louis and Barbara Chase of Seminole; one daughter, Pat Plumlee of Union, Mo.; one sister, Dorothy Jean Phillips of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.

Gracey Cheek

Private services will be held for Gracey Kay Cheek, infant daughter of former residents Robert G. and Rachel Renee (Chroup) Cheek of Earlsboro.

Cheek was born and died on Saturday, March 26, 2005 at a local hospital.

The services will be under the direction of Walker Funeral Home in Shawnee.

Ralph Cherry

Services for long time Wolf resident Ralph Homer Cherry are set for 2 p.m. Monday, June 6, 2005 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating, burial will follow at Wolf Cemetery.

Ralph died Thursday, June 2, 2005 at Norman Veterans Center. He was born Dec. 8, 1920 in Coleman, Texas.

He served in the United States Army from August 1944 to October of 1945. He received the Asiatic Pacific service medal, good conduct medal and the Philippine liberation medal. He was a self-employed welder for Arco and pipeline for many years.

His parents, wife of 50 years Jessie Belle Cherry in 2000, two sons and two sisters precede him in death.

He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law; Bettie and James Marshall of Seminole, Maggie and Jewell Brumit of Salt Springs, Fla. and Dee Powell of Salt Springs, Fla.; one sister Joyce Wilson; and special friend John Carpenter of Jerrell, Texas; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

One very special friend and caregiver Carol Williams of Seminole also survives him.

Pallbearers will be John Smith, Ortie Anderson, Les Cogburn, Pete House, Phil Fowler and Paul Self. Honorary bearers will be Gerald Davis, J.T. Lawson.

Horace Thomas ‘H.T’ Childers

Graveside service for Maud native Horace Thomas "H.T." Childers are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Cummings Cemetery with Glen Williams officiating.

Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home of Maud is handling arrangements.

Childers died Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at Wagner Care Center in Wagner. He was 79.

He was born in Maud on March 8, 1926, to Horace Thomas Childers and Susan Elizabeth.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Childers worked as a teacher and attended First Baptist Church in Maud.

Childers is survived by his sister, Gene Petrie of Tulsa.

Agatha Christian

Graveside services for longtime Seminole resident Agatha C. (Colvin) Christian are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at rest Haven memorial Gardens with Rev. Carl Whitfield to officiating.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Christian, 80, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005 at Quail Ridge Living Center in west Siloam Springs. She was born Sept. 18, 1925 in Skeedy, Okla. to Charlie H. and Addie (Vance) Colvin.

She married Douglas Charles Christian on March 11, 1947 in Arkansas City, Kan. and worked for Newton Walls Department Store for over 28 years, retiring as manager of the Seminole Walls Store.

Christian was a member of First Baptist Church Seminole.

Her parents; her husband; one son, Charles Christian and two brothers, Charles Colvin Jr. and Clayton Colvin preceded her in death.

Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Lloyd of Seminole and Lori Billups of Colcord; one sister, Eva Dunn of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Amos Chupco

Funeral services for lifetime Seminole County resident Amos Thomas Chupco are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday at Hilltop Presbyterian Church in Wewoka with Elder Kelly Tiger and Jerry Baker officiating.

Wake services will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the church and interment will follow services at Achena Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Chupco, 80, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005 at Integris Baptist Medical Center. He was born March 10, 1924 in Wewoka to James and Bettie (Thomas) Chupco.

He married Lucille Tiger on Oct. 10, 1950 in Ft. Brag, N.C. and he has lived his whole life in Seminole County except for the time he served in the military.

Chupco served in the United States Army and retired Sept. 1, 1965. He served for 20 years with the Airborne Division, including the 82nd Airborne, 101st Airborne, 187 Regimental Combat and 12 air assaults.

He was also a master parachutist, during which time he has two children that were army brats.

Following his retirement from the army he retired from General Motors as an inspector in 1991, then he worked at the Seminole Wrangler plant in the maintenance department for four years.

His parents; one son, James Chupco Sr. (Jan. 31, 2003); one brother, James Chupco Jr.; two sisters, Nancy Franks and Rachel Walker, all preceded him in death.

Surviving is his wife of the home; one daughter, Phyllis Platta of Mescalero, N.M.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pall bearers for the service will be Roger Franks, Ronnie Franks, Sandy Walker, Albert Platta Sr., Joel Luna Jr. and Michael Fish.

Acting as honorary bearers will be Kenneth Taroyle, Charles Chupco, Kenna Harjo and Steve Ruedy.

Patricia ‘Pat’ Church

A memorial service for longtime Seminole resident Patricia "Pat" Church are set for 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel in Seminole.

Rev. Gary Pollard is set to officiate the service.

Church died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at Seminole Medical Center, at the age of 74.

She was born June 6, 1930, to Fred Wensauer and Madge (McDaniel Wensauer), in Shamrock.

She married Billie Eugene "Bill" Church on May 5, 1997, in Okemah.

Church was a homemaker, and had worked for several years at Seminole’s public library, retiring in the 1980s.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Eddie Wensauer; and sister, Jean Keener.

Church is survived by one son, Bill Northcutt, Davenport; three daughters: Sandy Schott, Wichita Falls, Texas, Cathy Robison, Omaha, Texas, and Penny Crelia, Seminole; one brother, Jack Wensauer, Rocksborrow, N.C.; one sister, Rose Marie Keener, Bowlegs; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Donations may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Heart or Lung Research, 825 NE 13th St., Oklahoma City, 73104-5097, as requested by the family.
