Funeral services for former longtime Seminole County resident Vanita Gaye Dukes are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Baptist Church in Wewoka with Rev. Reginald Woods to officiate.
Interment will follow services at Westwood Cemetery under the direction of Myers Mortuary.
Dukes, 55, of Oklahoma City, died Sunday, May 8, 2005 in Oklahoma City. She was born Dec. 11, 1949 in Oklahoma City to Etolia and Henry Dukes.
She attended school in the Wewoka area and graduated from Wewoka High School in 1967. While in school she was active in sports, participating in softball and basketball.
Dukes was a member of St. John AME Church. She lived in the Seminole are all of her earlier years until 1995, when she moved to Shawnee.
Most of her working years she spent in long-term care where she worked as an assistant nurse. Colonial State employed her for eight years and Shawnee Care for two years.
She had no biological children of her own, but served as mother to her nephew, Kevin Dukes, following the death of her sister.
Her father and identical twin sister, Juanita Kaye Dukes, preceded her in death.
Surviving is her mother Etolia Abraham of the home; brothers Marcus Abraham of Tulsa and Garry Dukes of Shawnee and sisters Paula Anderson of Choctaw, Terry Smith of Guthrie and Sherry Hardin of Del City.
Wesley Duncan
Private family services will be held at Cummins Cemetery for Tecumseh resident Wesley Gene Duncan under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Duncan, 71, died Thursday, July 14, 2005 at his residence. He was born March 6, 1934 in Seminole to Wesley Pascel Duncan and Allie Ella (Moore) Duncan.
He retired many years ago from a custom printing company located in San Diego, Calif.
Duncan then moved to Tecumseh from San Diego 10 years ago.
Surviving is one son, James Steven Duncan of Covina, Calif.; two brothers, Jimmy Duncan of California and Freddie Dee Duncan of Florida; two sisters, Shirley Carnes of California and Patsy Arbuckle of Oklahoma; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Eva Durham
Funeral services for lifelong Konawa resident Eva Lee Durham are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wade Scott officiating.
Interment is to follow services at Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home.
Durham, 76, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005 at Seminole Estates Nursing Home. She was born April 5, 1929 in Konawa to William "Bud" Durham and Emmer (Griffith) Durham.
She was a home provider and member of the Landmark Baptist Church of Konawa.
Her parents, one brother, Johnny Durham and one sister, Lillie Cossey preceded her in death.
Surviving is her brother, Harley Durham of Fort Smith, Ark. and two sisters, Wanda Bundy of Seminole and Louise Johnson of Duncan.
Pallbearers for the services will be Darrell Mackey, Tommy Mackey, Ronnie Mackey, James Payne, Johnny Rose and Jerry Hunt.
Patsy Earles
Funeral services for former Seminole resident Patsy Ann Earles are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Abundant Life Temple in Durant.
Rev. Jim Zinger and Rev. Randall Drake will officiate with family hour scheduled for Tuesday between 7 – 8 p.m.
Interment is to follow services at Highland Cemetery in Durant under the direction of Coffey-Murray Funeral Home.
Earles, 75, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005 at McSo Home Health Center in Durant. She was born in Seminole on July 10, 1930 to James A. and Myrtle (McClain) Mason.
She married A.A. "Pete" Earles and was a homemaker and member of the Abundant Life Temple in Durant.
Her parents; brothers, Harley, Bill and Joe Mason and sisters, Edra Giroux, Lottie Deason and Lela Oldenhage preceded her in death.
Pallbearers are to be Jason Grider, Chris Earles, Josh Grider, Jason Earles, Chad Marsh, Matthew Earles, Evan Earles and Mason Earles. Acting as an honorary pallbearer will be Jonathan Biggs.
Surviving is husband, A.A. "Pete" Earles of Durant; daughter, Sharolyn Grider of Durant; four sons, Mark Earles of Denison, Texas, Jeffery Earles of Ardmore, Joseph Earles of Durant and Matthew Earles of Durant; two sisters, Sara Tanton of Tulsa and Mary Dias of North Hills, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mack Easley
Graveside services for Seminole native Mack Ernest Easley are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Earlsboro Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Easley, 59, died Friday, May 13, 2005 at Unity North Hospital in Shawnee. He was born Jan. 11, 1946 in Seminole to Ike Easley and Lonada (Brannon) Few.
He was a longtime Earlsboro resident who worked as an auto mechanic and in construction.
His parents, one brother Billy Dunlap and wife Sandra Elizabeth Easley preceded him in death.
Surviving are four sons, James Talton of Earlsboro, Marrio Jackson of Oklahoma, Mack Easley Jr. of Fresno, Calif. and Michael Talton of Earlsboro; four daughters, Maranda Marzett of Oklahoma City, Lonada Robison of Atlanta, Ga., Diamond Jackson of Bethany and Alisha Smith of Shawnee.
In addition is his brother Clayton Armstead of Earlsboro; three sisters Jewelie Marzett of Boley, Sandra Ann Winrow of Earlsboro and Wanda Phillips of Shawnee; three special friends, Sheila Burrows of Shawnee, Viola Jackson of Midwest City and Lena Talton of Earlsboro; 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
LeRoy Edgell
Funeral services for lifelong Seminole County resident LeRoy Edgell are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Pollard and Dr. Jack Medlock to officiate.
Interment is to follow services at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
LeRoy went to be with the Lord on Thursday morning, Feb. 24, 2005. He won a long, brave battle with cancer. LeRoy loved and cherished his family very much and will be missed dearly by everyone who knew him.
He was born Dec. 19, 1937 in Sonmac to Zephro A. Edgell and Vivian (Middleton) Chapman.
Edgell married Carol Low on Sept. 4, 1981 in Seminole and was a member of the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Seminole.
LeRoy worked as a parts man at Paul’s Auto Supply, Morgan’s Repair Shop and Town and Country Auto for several years.
His parents, son Chris Ritter and half-sister, Lavonne Day preceded him in death.
Surviving him is his wife Carole of the home; three sons, Terry Edgell and his wife Peggy of Seminole, Randy Edgell of Seminole and Chad Ritter and his wife Hope of Skiatook; one daughter and son-in-law, Stacey Bizzell and her husband John of McLoud and two brothers, Walt Edgell of Sparta, Wis. and Don Edgell of Seminole.
In addition, 12 grandchildren, Jennifer Lankford, Justin Lankford, Carrie Edgell, Harlan, Josie and Kendra Edgell, Addi Ritter, Martin Moe, Adam and Stephen Ritter, Austin Bizzell and Michael Botkin; two great-grandchildren, Kolby Quinalty and Caden McKitrick; father-in-law and mother-in-law Gene and Bessie Low of Holdenville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Greg and Joyce Holliman of Claremore; and several nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends survive him.
Pallbearers for the service will be Ray Taylor, Shawn Clark, Kenneth Mendenhall, Junior Graves, Steve Nelson and Tim Medlock.
Rodney Ellis
There are no services planned at this time for Konawa resident Rodney Clarence Ellis who died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005 at Carl Albert Indian Health Facility in Ada.
He was born Dec. 26, 1947 in Meeker to Francis Marlyon Ellis and Anona Beatrice (Bruno) Ellis.
Ellis married Betty Nadine Smith on Oct. 18, 1997 in Pawhuska and was disabled.
Surviving him is his wife of the home; two daughters, Rose Buckaloo and Lisa Hall; one son Michael Smith; three brothers, Andrew Ellis, Fred Ellis and Frank Ellis Jr.; two sisters, Angie Neely and Lorine Ellis; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Homer Lee Emarthle
Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident Rev. Homer Lee Emarthle are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Cold springs Baptist Church in Konawa.
The services will be officiated by Rev. George Doyle and Rev. Robert Washington.
Interment will follow services at the Emarthle Family Cemetery under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home.
Wake services are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at the Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. The body will be moved to the church on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. and will lie in state until service time.
Emarthle, 82, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2005 at his Konawa home. He was born March 24, 1923 near Wewoka to Marcus and Lucy (Franks) Emarthle.
He was the founder and long-time Pastor of Cold Springs Baptist Church.
In 1963 he married Leah Wood in Denison, Texas and had served in the United States Army during World War II.
His parents, four sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.
Surviving is his wife of the home; two brothers, Tommy Emarthle of Tulsa and Johnny Emarthle of Konawa.
Pallbearers for the services will be Harry Douglas, Isaac Johnson, Frank Harjo, Walter Factor and Frank Johnson.
Honorary bearers will be Kenneth Cooper, Tony Morgan, Jared Johnson, Jeremy Alberson, Marcus Harjo and Marcie Tiger.
Margaret Emarthle
Funeral services for longtime Konawa resident Margaret Elizabeth Emarthle are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church with Kellos Walker to officiate.
Wake services are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday at Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment is to follow services at the Emarthle Family Cemetery under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home.
Emarthle, 51, died Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at her residence. She was born March 18, 1953 in Wewoka to James and Flora (McGirt) Emarthle.
After graduating from high school she attended Haskell Indian Junior College and Northeastern State College in Tahlequah.
She was a certified nurse’s aid and worked at New Horizons Nursing Home in Konawa for over 20 years, and was a member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church.
Her parents, one brother Ben Emarthle and one grandson Michael Emarthle preceded her in death.
Surviving her are two daughters, Kelly Emarthle and Summer Emarthle, both of Konawa; one brother, Richard Emarthle of Ada; one sister, Jamie Sumpter of Claremore and two granddaughters.
Serving as pallbearers will be James George, Matthew Sumpter, Mike Sumpter, Johnny Emarthle and Edward Heard.
The honorary bearers will be Tom Cade, Billy Dean Burns, Richard Emarthle, Bobby George and Cody Lewis.
