Funeral services for Seminole resident Thelma Jane Griffith are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Tessie Simmons officiating.
Interment will be at Little Cemetery in Seminole under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Griffith, 79, died Monday, Aug. 15, 2005 at Pioneer Nursing Home. She was born April 11, 1926 in Holdenville to Ollie and Cordelia (Green) Ledbetter.
She was retired from Blue Bell Jeans where she was a sewing machine operator.
Her parents, one son and one daughter preceded her in death.
Surviving are three daughters, Gloria Guthrie, Sharon Wood and Brenda Griffith, all of Seminole; two brothers, Floyd Ledbetter of Holdenville and Harvey Ledbetter of Seminole and two sisters, Velma Brewer of Holdenville and Syble Harris of Seminole.
In addition, nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren survive her.
Pallbearers will be Danny Wood, David Guthrie, Larry Hale, Les Hale, Curtis Ledbetter and Everett Ledbetter.
Honorary bearers will be Harvey Young, Lynn Floyd, Jason Dorrough, Mike Townsend, Mike Dobson and Brian Dobson.
Karen Beth Grimes
Funeral services are scheduled for longtime Seminole resident Karen Beth Grimes at 10 a.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev, Jeff Nance to officiate.
A private family graveside service will follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Grimes, 61, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005 at home. She was born in Stillwater Sept. 13, 1943 to Ernest William Devlin and Mary (Gunter) Devlin.
She worked at the Seminole Producer in the circulation department for 17 years.
Her parents and one infant son, Daniel Sean Feken (in 1975) preceded her in death.
Surviving her are four daughters and sons-in-law, Laurie and Johnny Lewis of Seminole, Lisa and Jay Camp of Tecumseh, Kristy and Donald Emmitt of Seminole and Kaci and Stephen Hunt of Seminole; three sons and daughter-in-law, Chadd and Sonya Feken, Zane Feken and Kyle Grimes, all of Seminole; one brother Mike Devlin of Perry; and nine grandchildren, Jeff and Shay Lewis, Hailey Hernandez, Jayce Camp, Dusty and Blake Emmitt, Cameron and Shyler Feken and Thaddius and Nicole Feken.
Pall bearers for the service will be John Lewis, Jay Camp, Donald Emmitt, Stephen Hunt, Jeff Lewis and Eual Camp.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Karen Grimes Memorial Fund in care of Swearingen Funeral Home, 100 W. Strothers Avenue, Seminole, OK 74868.
Rosalie Grothaus
Funeral service for former Wewoka resident Rosalie Grothaus is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Harjochee officiating. Interment will follow at Factor Cemetery.
A wake service is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Amon Harjo officiating.
Grothaus died Monday, Sept. 19, in an Oklahoma City Hospital. She was 67.
She was born April 21, 1938, to Mary Taylor in Wewoka. Grothaus was raised by Cogee and Legus Miller.
Grothaus graduated from Mt. St. Mary’s High School in Oklahoma City and graduated from William Woods College in Missouri with a bachelor’s degree in education. She worked for Seminole Nation Older American Program and retired from the Federal Tribal Program.
Her mother and foster parents preceded her in death.
Grothaus is survived by her son, Michael W. Grothaus of Shawnee; daughter, Rochelle Murdock of McLoud; sister, Sally Taylor of Wewoka; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Pallbearers are Travis Jackson Jr., Stanley Madkins, Mike Deer, Reo Miller, Dewayne Miller, and Joe McGirt.
Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka.
Geraldine Guess
Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Geraldine Guess are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Hilltop Freewill Baptist Church.
Officiating at the service will be Rev. N.R. Smith, Rev. David Sutton, Rev. Paskel Bevins and Rev. Dan Farmer.
Interment is to follow service at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Philips Funeral Home.
Guess, 70, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005 at Norman Regional Hospital. She was born April 4, 1934 in Okemah to Matthew and Margaret Coy.
She grew up in the Seminole County area and attended Cromwell Schools. She married Herman Guess in Wewoka on Dec. 8, 1956.
Guess worked for Cleveland Aging Service as a Site Aide and was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.
Her parents and husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include: daughter Kelly Hiser of Moore; son Albert Guess of Wewoka; brother Leonard Coy of Longdale; sisters Violet Hicks of Gore, Berniece Ford of Borger, Texas, Retha Wilburn of Ark. and Beverly Boyd of Oklahoma City; two grandchildren and two step grandchildren.
Clarence Guest
Funeral services for Seminole County resident Clarence Ober Guest are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Resthaven Funeral Home in Shawnee.
Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
Guest, 78 of Earlsboro, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005 at Solara Hospital in Shawnee. He was born July 30, 1927 in Idabel to Leroy Guest and Maudie (Bullard) Guest.
As a child he moved from Idabel to Newalla and later to Phoenix, Ariz.
He then served in the United States Navy during the latter part of World War II. Upon the completion of his service he return to Arizona and worked in the copper mills.
Guest then moved to Oklahoma City and worked for O.G.& E.
On March 11, 1950 he married Hattie Cowan and moved to Earlsboro in 1964 and began ranching.
He attended Fairview Baptist Church and was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
His parents and three brothers, Galen, Wilbur and Calvin Guest preceded him in death.
Surviving is his wife of the home; two children, Debbie and husband Charles Johnson of Earlsboro and Gary and wife Peggy Guest of Seminole; five grandchildren, Landon and Angie Guest of Seminole, Kent and Melanie Johnson of Earlsboro, Heather Guest of Oklahoma City, Allison Guest of Colorado Springs, Co. and Lindsay Guest of Seminole.
In addition, three great-grandchildren, Ethan Guest and Sydney Guest of Seminole and Maddelann Johnson of Earlsboro; three sisters, Ethel Osmus of Catoosa, Nadine Kissling of Prescott, Ariz. and Bernice Williams of Oklahoma City and several nieces and nephews.
Mary Ethel Guinn
Funeral services for former Maud resident Mary Ethel Guinn are set for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Trinity Baptist Church in Maud, under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home of Maud.
Rev. Carl Whitfield is set to officiate.
Burial will follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud.
Guinn died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at Grace Living Center in Norman, at the age of 83.
She was born Aug. 3, 1921, in Columbus, Ga., to Arnold Z. Foster and Ethel "Gordie" (Brooks) Foster.
Guinn moved to Maud in 1965, from the Little Axe/Norman area.
She was a member of the Maud Trinity Baptist Church, and became a member of the Maud Rebekah Lodge in 1965. She served all the local offices as a district deputy several times.
Guinn was a homemaker, and worked on the Green Thumb program as secretary for Maud Middle School. From 1976 until 1984, she worked in the shipping department at Wrangler.
She married Jack V. Guinn on Dec. 22, 1948, in Columbus, Ga. He preceded her in death on Oct. 13, 1970.
Besides her husband, Guinn was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Marvin Gordon Foster; and three sisters: Margret Cyr, June Holmes, and Betty Jean Slayton.
She is survived by three sons: W.E. "Buster" Brock, Norman, Lance Guinn, Midlothian, Texas, and Jerry Guinn, Grove; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Darrell Foster of Riverside, Calif.; and one sister, Louise Shores of Phoenix City, Ala.
James Gunville
Funeral services for Wewoka resident James Allen Gunville are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Little River Mission with Rev. Harlen Moses, Rev. Larry Harrison and Rev. Danny Faulkner officiating.
Wake services will be held tonight after 4 p.m. at the Little River Mission. Interment will follow services in the Moses Family Cemetery in Limestone under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home of Holdenville.
Gunville, 56, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2005 at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born in Belcourt, N.D. on Aug. 22, 1948 to Fred and Mary Rose (Boyer) Gunville.
He was raised and attended school in North Dakota then attended the University of California at Berkeley for two years.
Gunville married Hilly Hill in California on Aug. 24, 1967. The couple then moved to Wewoka in 1968 where they made their home and reared their children.
He enjoyed his family, reading and football, and attended Little River Mission.
Survivors include his wife of the home; sons, Olie Gunville of Seminole and Kevin Gunville of Oklahoma City; daughters, Carol and Katie Gunville of Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Melvin Gunville of Salt Lake City, Utah and Randy Gunville of Roundup, Mont.; and four sisters, Ann Marie Gunville, Teresa Sharber and Margaret Strothman, all of Roundup, Mont. and Clarisa Wright of Ryegate, Mont.
Pallbearers for the service will be Charles Trevino, Jason Trevino, Eric Wise, Ronald Carpitcher, Clarence Carpitcher and Cornelius Garcia.
Larry Hailey
Memorial services for longtime Konawa area resident Larry Michael Hailey are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Vamoosa Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Pam Shirk to officiate.
Services are under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home.
Hailey, 62, died Monday, Nov. 28, 2005 at his residence in Konawa. He was born Jan. 23, 1943 in Oklahoma City to Vitchel and Violet (Sanders) Hailey.
He served in the United States Marines and received an honorable discharge on July 19, 1965.
Hailey was a 32nd degree Mason, member of the Oddfellows and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Konawa. He worked in pipeline construction.
His parents preceded him in death.
Surviving is son, Marc Allen Hailey; sister, Mary Miller of Konawa and six grandchildren.
