A two-night wake service for Franklin Hill, father of Maud resident Jonathan Hill, began at 1 p.m. Sunday at Wolf Creek School in Wolf Creek, S.D.
Funeral services were set to begin at 10 a.m. today at the Wolf Creek Community Hall with Revs. Wayne Wasicuna and Larry Harrison officiating.
Interment was set to follow at Wolf Creek Community Cemetery in Wolf Creek, S.D. All arrangements were handled by Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge.
Hill died Thursday, July 28, 2005, at the age of 54 in Pine Ridge, S.D.
Hill was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp.
He is survived by his wife, Charity Good Plume-Hill of Pine Ridge, S.D.; sons, Kenneth Duane Hill of Rapid City, S.D., Jonathan Hill of Maud, and Nathan Hill of Ft. Carson, Colo.; daughters, Lonni Hill and Jenny Hill both of Wolf Creek, S.D., and Elena Merritt of Ada.
Hill is also survived by his brothers, Charlie Hill of Stock Bridge, Ga., Mickey Hill of Seminole, Walter Hill of Wolf Creek, S.D., and Ed Hill of Albuquerque, N.M.; sisters, Leona Hill-Post Oak of Wewoka, Imogene Hill-Capitcher, Hilly Hill-Gunville, and Jennie Hill-Trevino all of Oklahoma City, and Edna Hill-Harjo of Seminole; and seven grandchildren.
Lilbern Earl Holmes
Funeral services for longtime Wewoka resident Lilbern Earl Holmes are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Stout-Phillips Chapel in Wewoka with Dennis Burrett officiating.
Holmes died Thursday, March 31, 2005, in Shawnee Hospital at the age of 86.
He was born in Lewisville, Ark. on Sept. 27, 1918, to J.S. and Laura Holmes.
Holmes moved to Wewoka with his parents at the age of six. As a youngster, he worked for years as a paperboy and knew many people in Wewoka.
Later, he worked as the agent at the bus station, for many years.
Holmes was known to repair many things in his life. In the mid 50’s, he and his wife, Dorothy, moved to Chicago while he attended Coyne School of Electronics for Radio and TV repair.
He came back to Wewoka to set up shop and repaired and sold TVs and appliances for 50 years.
Later in life, he stared making woodcrafts. He also refinished furniture for customers and built new furniture.
Holmes was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his parents, J.S. and Laura Holmes; and sister, Betty Rubbs.
He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Lynch of Spring, Texas and Jody Parker of Jenks; sons, Robyn Holmes of Edmond and son, John Holmes of Washington; one sister, Ruth Roberts; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Robert Honsinger
A graveside memorial service for lifelong Maud area resident, Robert Ray "Bob" Honsinger has been scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Wolf Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Honsinger, 70, died Friday, Oct. 29, 2005 at his home south of Maud. He was born March 11, 1935 in Seminole County to Ray Fenton Honsinger and Goldie (Saxon) Honsinger.
He was self-employed, a construction worker, a heavy equipment operator and a pipeline welder who retired in 2000.
Honsinger served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
His parents; two brothers, Ricky Honsinger and Lee Edward Honsinger and one granddaughter, Brandy Fletcher preceded him in death.
Surviving is his wife, Arlene (Nave) Bush-Honsinger of the home; the mother of his children, Betty Honsinger Love of Tuskahoma; two sons, Billy Honsinger of Tuskahoma and Bobby Honsinger of Konawa and two daughters, Barbara James of Royse City, Texas and Brenda Fletcher of Tuskahoma.
In addition, six sisters, Margaret Orr and Mary Ruth Dawson both of Chickasha, Roberta Phelps of Oklahoma City, Jo Ann Julian of Letha, Patty Crummit and Connie Heffley, both of Tishomingo; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren survive him.
Floy Nell Hooten
Longtime Seminole resident, Floy Nell Hooten passed away Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005 at Seminole Estates Nursing Home at the age of 94.
Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Heartland Family Church with Rev. Jerry Humphries officiating.
A private family burial will take place prior to the memorial service at Maple Grove Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Floy was born on Jan. 20, 1911 in Corsicana, Texas to William Tony and Fanny (Burton) Womack.
She married Andy Hooten on June 7, 1934 in Tecumseh, Okla., he preceded her in death on Nov. 5, 1997.
Floy was a registered nurse graduating school in 1933. She was a homemaker, a devoted mother and loving grandmother.
She was a member of the First Church of God where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was also an active participant and leader in the music ministry of the church.
Floy used her gifts of hospitality and giving in service to others.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Karen Hooten of Seminole; four grandchildren, David and Teri Hooten of Seminole, Jon and Anne Hooten of Pomona, Calif., Daniel Newman and partner Bruce Ostyn of Green Valley, Ariz., and Dr. Mike Hooten and Heidi of Rochester, Minn. and six great-grandchildren, Rayme Hooten of Sacremento, Calif., Kyle and Chloe Hooten of Rochester, Minn., Cody, Jake and Abbie Hooten of Seminole.
Her parents; husband; two sisters, Ollie Byram, and Doris Jarrell and one brother, Paul Womack, precede her in death.
The Hooten Family would like to especially thank the staff of Seminole Estates Nursing Home for all the love and care they have given Floy and family.
Frankie ‘Daryl’ Hopkins Sr.
Funeral services for lifelong Maud resident Frankie "Daryl" Hopkins Sr. are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Maud with Rev. Jim Kirkendall to officiate.
Interment is to follow at Tecumseh Mission Cemetery under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home.
The hours of visitation are 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Saturday and 12 noon – 6 p.m. Sunday.
Hopkins, 54, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2005 at Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City. He was born July 19, 1950 in Shawnee to Benjaman Franklin Hopkins and Relta Mae (Roberts).
Daryl attended Seminole State College and East Central University on a baseball scholarship. He also helped coach Little League baseball.
Hopkins married Pamela Fay Lee on May 7, 1993 in Vanburen, Ark. and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Maud.
He worked as a Rig Superintendent – troubleshooter for Nabors Drilling Company, out of Tyler, Texas, and covering the areas of Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Louisiana.
His father; mother-in-law, Marie Lee (1999); stepfather, Doug Templeton and one grandson, Richard James Boren (1995) preceded him in death.
Surviving is his mother, Relta Templeton of Maud; wife Pamela Hopkins of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Frankie Daryl and Amanda Hopkins Jr. of Tecumseh, Nicholas Bryan and Jennifer Hopkins of Emory, Texas and Billy "Brac" and Melissa Boren of Hutchinson, Kan. and daughter and her fiancé, Latisha Dawn Boren and Ryan Brandt of Oklahoma City.
In addition, are Daryl’s mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ray and Mimi Lee of Maud and eight grandchildren.
Pall bearers for the services will be Terry Morris, Richie Birdwell, Charlie Carter, Tommie King, James Garretson, Frankie Blain, Charles Hutchins, Shorty Snodgrass and Max Hunt.
Billy George Horn
Seminole County resident Billy George Horn died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, at his home in Earlsboro. He was 82 years old.
Horn’s remains will be cremated. Swearingen Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
He was born April 14, 1922, in Princeton, Mo., to Fred Earl Horn and Velma Veatrice (Paxton).
On May 2, 1942, in Vallejo, Calif., he married Wilma (Austin) Horn.
Horn served in the Navy during World War II. He was a retired machinist having worked as one in the Navy and in his civilian life.
Horn was a member of the American Legion in Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one grandchild.
Horn is survived by his wife of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Donald Hatcher of Earlsboro; one son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Peggy Horn of South Carolina; six grandchildren, Ryker Horn, Donna Moore, James Southers, Denise Wiley, William Southers and Michael Southers; nine great-grandchildren, Lacey Wiley, Chantce Wiley, Chestney Wiley, Kylen Southers, Grace Moore, Britney Moore, Marley Fixico, Austin Southers and Stephanie Southers.
Weylon Holtman Sr.
Funeral services for former Sasakwa resident Weylon H. Holtman Sr. are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Sasakwa Assembly of God Church with Rev. Wesley Martin officiating.
Interment is to follow service at Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Smith-Phillips Funeral Home. Military Honors are to be performed by the Chickasaw Nation Honor Guard.
Holtman, 65, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005 at the Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was born May 1, 1939 in Childress, Texas to Luther Hilliard and Evelyn Estelle (Owens) Holtman.
He married Loretta Rae Barnes on Nov. 24, 1964 in Pampa, Texas. Mrs. Holtman passed from this life on May 14, 2004.
Holtman attended Pampa High School and moved to Ada in 1991 from Sasakwa, where he attended the Sasakwa Assembly of God Church.
He owned and operated Holtman Tank Trucks for a number of years. Holtman also served in the United States Navy for four years. Some of the things that he loved to do were collecting coins and fishing.
His wife, Loretta Holtman, and his father, Luther Holtman preceded him in death.
Surviving him are his two sons, Weylon Holtman Jr. of Ada and John Gower of Pauls Valley; three daughters, Lesia McNutt of Ada, Charlotte Roulston of Sasakwa and Pam Holtman of Ada; his mother, Evelyn Estelle Holtman of Abilene, Texas; one brother, Lynn Holtman of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Joyce Waddell of Abilene, Texas and Annette Shortridge of Phoenix, Ariz.; and eight grandchildren.
Pallbearers for the service will be Greg Durham, Monty Durham, Marty Durham, Jimmy Durham, Jeremy Cargill and Wade House.
The honorary pallbearers will be Derek Landreth, Hiram Roulston III and John C. Gower.
Ellen Jean Houck
Private family services will be held for Seminole resident Ellen Jean (Maloy) Houck, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Houck, 55, died Friday, July 1, 2005 at her home. She was born Nov. 20, 1949 in Weleetka to William "Bill" Shatto and Essie (Chadic).
She married Benny Houck and was a home health service nurse.
One brother, Charles Penrod preceded her in death.
Surviving is husband Benny Houck of the home; son and daughter-in-law Brian and Bonnie Maloy of Luther; daughter and son-in-law Ivona and John Gore of Seminole; step-son Steven Houck of Seminole and step-daughter Cindy Houck of Oklahoma City.
In addition, two brothers, Grady Shatto and John David Shatto, both of Muskogee; sister and brother-in-law, Billie and Jerry Clower of Seminole and two grandchildren, Bradley Houck and Franklin Gore survive.
