James Hudson

Funeral services for lifelong Maud resident James Edward Hudson were scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Taylor officiating.

Interment took place following service with full military honors at Cummings Cemetery in Maud under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home.

Hudson, 78, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005 at Pioneer Nursing Home. He was born March 7, 1926 in Clarksville, Ark. to James Harvey "Jim" and Mary Murror (Estep) Hudson.

He attended Maud School and graduated from Modesto, Calif. Hudson married Deloris Lueree Lucy on May 9, 1947 in a double wedding ceremony with their friends, Lavon and Ruth Hulin in Sherman, Texas.

As a young man he worked for Ralph Jones Grocery the Fred Adwan’s Grocery and Dry Goods in Maud. He also worked for Warren Petroleum and Bodkin Furniture Store.

Hudson retired from Tinker Air Force Base in 1990 after 30 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served in 1942 – 1946 aboard the ship ARL 28 Typhoon in World War II. He repaired small boats, jeeps and aircraft.

He was a longtime charter member and deacon of Trinity Baptist Church and served as music director, Sunday School supervisor and bus driver.

Hudson was a member American Legion Hall and the Maud Roundup Club.

His parents; wife, Lueree Hudson (Feb. 23, 1990); two brothers, Faye Hudson and Jackie Hudson; three sisters, Elva Hart, Daisy Ryan and Ann Renfro all preceded him in death.

Surviving him are his son Jim Hudson of Maud; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Gary Adams of Seminole; mother-in-law Ruth Lucy of Tecumseh; brothers-in-law, Leroy Lucy of Edmond, Paul Lucy of Maud and Jack Lucy of Tecumseh; grandchildren, Michelle Scott of Choctaw, Lori and Shawn Snyder of Seminole, Mark Adams of Seminole, Jillian and Josh Hatley of Tecumseh, Jaclyn Hudson and Janesa Hudson both of Tecumseh and one great-grandchild, Mikenlea Snyder of Seminole.

Pallbearers for the services were Mark Adams, Shawn Snyder, Josh Hatley, Michael Beavers, John Williams and David Anderson.

The honorary bearers were Luster Hefley, Dale Williams, Charles Pierce, John Nuckolls, Glen Williams, Tom Jackson, Bill Harrison and Bill Scates.

Veda Mae Huggins

Graveside services for lifelong Konawa area resident Veda Mae Huggins are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at Konawa Cemetery with Rev. Pam Shirk to officiate.

The service is under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home.

Huggins, 68, died Thursday, June 23, 2005 at her residence in Konawa. She was born Dec. 14, 1936 in Konawa to Fred Abbott and Martha (Blackwood) Abbott.

She married Bobby Huggins on Dec. 19, 1955 in Ada and was a homemaker and member of the Fist Baptist Church in Konawa.

Huggins was a former employee of Solo Cup Company and of Zeta Burns Clothing.

Her parents, two sisters Mary Gattenby and Helen Gillespie and two brothers Freddy Abbott and Bobby Joe Abbott preceded her in death.

Surviving are her husband of the home; two sons, Glen Higgins of Tucson, Ariz. and Ted Huggins of Konawa; two daughters, Kay Coleman and Beth Woody, both of Konawa; three sisters, Margaret Kuestersteffen and Billie Doner, both of Konawa and Maxine Kirkpatrick of Byng.

In addition, there are 11 grandchildren, Robert Huggins, Dana Brooks, Jennifer Huggins, Andrea Brantly, Susan Coleman, Josh Coleman, Cassandra Woody, Chris Woody, Whitney, Alisha and Tyler Huggins; and four great-grandchildren, Cameron, Macy, Corey and Bryson survive.

Serving as honorary bearers will be Kenneth Gattenby, Fred Kuestersteffen, Guy Bartlett, Jeff Abbott, Tim Arnold, Clayton Phillips and Daryl Kuestersteffen.

Ed Lee Hughes

Services for Konawa native Ed Hughes were held Monday at OakCrest Funeral Home with Dr. James Leo Garrett officiating. Military graveside rites followed at Waco Memorial Park.

Hughes died Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at a care center in Waco. He was 84.

He was born on Sept. 9, 1920 in Konawa to Greer and Ivor (Ward) Hughes.

He met and married Alma Virgina Wilson.

Hughes was in the Air Force and served during WWII and Korea.

He is survived by his wife, Alma V. Hughes of Waco; daughters, Kathryn Bowersox of Waco, Nancy Garrett of Austin, Texas, and Debbie Wilk of Lorena, Texas; brother, John Hughes of Lexington; sisters, Evelyn Taylor of Seminole and Connie Young of Norman; and three grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers were Hughes’ grandsons, Richie and Jake Roper.

Ethel Hughes

Funeral services for Konawa resident Ethel Ruby Hughes are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Konawa Assembly of God Church with Rev. Richard Hughes to officiate.

Interment is to follow services at Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home.

Hughes, 82, died Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at Valley View Regional Hospital in Ada. She was born March 9, 1923 in Cisco, Texas to Lester and Minnie (Chambers) Fleming.

She married Roy Hughes on Feb. 25, 1941 in Cisco, Texas and they moved to Konawa from Artesia, N.M. in 1979.

Hughes worked as a Nutritional Specialist at a nursing home in Artesia, N.M. and was a cook at Vamoosa Schools for several years.

She was a member of the Konawa Assembly of God Church and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Her parents, three brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.

Surviving is her husband, Roy Hughes of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Roy Hughes Jr. and his wife Joann of Weston, Fla.; two daughters, Carolyn Duncan of The Woodlands, Texas and Marilyn Siracusa and her husband Jere of Plantersville, Texas.

In addition are four grandchildren, Jeff Duncan and his wife Karen, Tracy Duncan and his wife Sue, Christi Gurley and her husband Shane and Lindsay Hughes; and three great-grandchildren, Lauren Duncan, Hailey Duncan and Emily Duncan.

Ramsey Hulbutta

A wake service for longtime Wewoka resident Ramsey Hulbutta is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tonight at Sand Creek Eufaula Baptist Church.

Church services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sand Creek Eufaula Baptist Church.

Interment will be held at Tebe Cemetery with Rev. Houston Tiger officiating and assisted by Rev. John Copeland.

Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka.

Hulbutta, 67, died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005 at his residence. He was born June 7, 1938 in Wewoka to Johnson Hulbutta and Sarah Tiger. He attended Justice School.

He married Mary Tebe June 19, 1966 at the Sand Creek Eufaula Church, where he has been a member since Aug. 16, 2001.

Hulbutta was a retired commercial painter.

His parents, sisters, Nancy Bear and Samaria Grass and brothers, Roman Raymond and Johnny Hulbutta preceded him in death.

Surviving is his wife of the home; three sons, Hal Hulbutta of Wewoka, Howard Hulbutta of El Reno and Johnson Hulbutta of Wewoka; nine grandchildren; four siblings, Nelsie Yargee of Shawnee, Ronnie Hulbutta and Paul Hulbutta, both of Wewoka and Jimpsey Hulbutta of Oklahoma City.

Norma Hurst

Funeral services for longtime Maud and Seminole County resident Norma "Jean" Hurst have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel in Seminole.

Ray Wade is to officiate and cremation arrangements are under Swearingen Funeral Home.

Hurst, 72, died Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2005 at Seminole Estates Care Center. She was born Aug. 12, 1933 in Okemah to Edward Alec Brackin and Lillie Marie (Key) Brackin.

On Aug. 12, 1949 she married James Walter "Red" Hurst in Seminole.

Hurst owned and operated Jean’s Flower and Bake Shop in Maud from 1969 until her retirement in 1992.

She also taught floriculture and cake decorating at both Gordon Cooper Vo-Tec and Seminole Junior College. Hurst also catered many weddings.

Her parents and two brothers, Odell and Kenneth Brackin preceded her in death.

Surviving is her husband of the home; three daughters, Reta Hurst of Maud, Gracie Guinn of Monkey Island on Grand Lake and Jamie Cupp of Seminole; two sisters, Lois Brown of Arizona and Wanda Jo Smith of Duncan and five grandchildren.

In addition, she raised her nephew Russell Laxson of Oklahoma City, and he survives her.

Phillip Inman

Graveside services with military honors were scheduled for former Wewoka resident Phillip Wayne Inman at 1 p.m. today at Holdenville Cemetery.

Inman, 47, passed away Friday, Feb. 11, 2005 in his home in Lewisville, Texas. He was born in Wewoka on Nov. 17, 1957, and he graduated from Wewoka High School in 1976.

Phillip joined the National Guard with the 45th Infantry Division in 1977. He later joined the United States Army and served honorably for 16 years in the 7th, 37th and 18th Field Artilleries.

He received commendations for his service in Operation Safe Haven in the Republic of Panama and numerous other commendations, including two Army Commendation Medals.

Since leaving the Army, he has worked as a long haul truck driver and as a crane operator. Phillip will always be remembered for his ready smile and his ability to put in a long day’s hard work with pride.

Phillip will be met in heaven by his beloved Grandpa, Luther Sanderson; his cherished "second dad", Samuel DeWayne Teague; and by his brother, Craig Anthony Inman.

Surviving him is his mother, Myrna Sanderson Teague; his grandmother, Jeanette Sanderson, both of Flower Mound, Texas; his father and stepmother Jim and Nancy Inman; and their sons, Timothy, Wayne and Odas Randall of Holdenville; his sisters, Nancy Mathis of Wewoka and Jeanetta Calhoun Mish of Norman; Uncle Larry Sanderson and wife Linda and Uncle Roger Sanderson.

His nephew, Michael Wayne Henson of Norman, will also sorely miss him. Three nieces and one nephew of Holdenville also survive Phillip.

Carol Jackson

Funeral services for Carol Lynn Jackson are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday with Rev. Keith Klossner to officiate at Parks Brothers Chapel in Okemah.

A wake service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday with Jack Davis to officiate at Parks Brothers Chapel.

Interment is to follow services at Highland Cemetery in Okemah.

Jackson, 42, died Friday, July 29, 2005 at her home in Bearden. She was born Nov. 26, 1962 in Holdenville to Buster and Virginia (Harrison) Brown.

She has been a resident of the Okfuskee County for most of her life. She married Jimmie Ray Jackson on Feb. 8, 1982.

Jackson worked as a cook manager for Bearden Schools for approximately 17 years. She loved antique tractors, fishing, and was a member of the Thlopthlocco United Methodist Church.

Her father preceded her in death.

Surviving is her mother; her husband Jimmie of Bearden; two sons, Mark Jackson of Okemah and Heath Jackson of Las Vegas, Nev. and two daughters, Marcia Caudill of Holdenville and Cynthia Borelli of Las Vegas, Nev.

In addition, four brothers, Steven of Oklahoma City, Chris, Jeff and Ronnie, all of Seminole; two sisters, Sharon Brown of Seminole and Jessie Bear of Wewoka; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive her.

Pallbearers for the services will be Roy Johnston, Dale Harris, Bob Harris, Johnny Wilson, Ed Shoemaker and Dale Ramsey.
