Jimmy E. Lawson

Funeral service for Seminole native Jimmy E. Lawson is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church in Great Bend, Kan. Rev. William F. Johnson is set to officiate. Interment is set to follow at Great Bend Cemetery in Great Bend, Kan.

Lawson died Sunday, Oct. 2, at Ellinwood District Hospital in Ellinwood, Kan. He was 75.

He was born Dec. 26, 1929, in Seminole to Roscoe and Faye Brown Lawson. He later married Betty Malone in Seminole.

Lawson was a resident of Great Bend for 49 years, moving from Seminole. He was a district Manager for Petrolite Corp., Treatolite Division and had worked there for 37 years.

He was a member of the First Christian Church, V.F.W. Post 180, Elks Lodge 646 and the Community Colleges Sports Hall of Fame.

His parents and one sister, Norma June Pair, preceded him in death.

Lawson is survived by his wife, Betty Lawson of Great Bend, Kan.; two sons, Bud J. Lawson of Reno, Nev., and Hal J. Lawson of Casa Grande, Ariz.; one daughter, Janet Kuhn of Great Bend, Kan.; and six grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to Heartland Cancer Center or First Christian Church.

Arrangements are being handled by Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, Kan.

Johnnie Roberta Beavers Lawyer

Funeral service for mother of former Wewoka Times editor Nancy Miller, Johnnie Roberta Beavers Lawyer, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Holdenville.

Rev. Mack Peercy, former pastor of the Capitol Heights Missionary Baptist Church, is set to officiate. Burial will be in the Holdenville Cemetery. Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home is handling all arrangements.

Lawyer died Friday, March 25, 2005, in Henryetta, at the age of 100 years and five weeks.

She was born Feb. 14, 1905, in Holdenville Indian Territory, to George Washington Beavers and his wife, Manna.

Lawyer lived in Holdenville most of her life, moving to Henryetta in 1994 to be near her daughter, Nancy Turner Miller, who was then publisher of the Henryetta Daily Free-Lance.

Lawyer was a seamstress with Holdenville clientele during the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s.

During World War II, she went to work at Douglas Aircraft in Midwest City. She also worked in the Naval Yard at Richmond, Calif. in 1944.

Lawyer made quilts and in her later years was active in the Senior Citizens group in Holdenville, helping make quilts to be raffled off to earn money for Senior Citizen Center projects.

Lawyer was a pianist and often played at the SC center.

She was a long time member of the Capitol Heights Missionary Baptist Church in Holdenville. She sang in the choir and filled in at the piano when needed.

Lawyer often shared bouquets of flowers at the SC center.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bert Elisha Turner; her second husband, J.M. "Mort" Lawyer; her brothers, Samuel Beavers, Oliver Beavers and Robert Beavers; and her sisters, Ellen Ross, Elsie Johnson and Georgia Cox.

Lawyer is survived by her daughter, Nancy Miller of Henryetta; her son, Bob Turner of Tulsa; five grandsons; one grand daughter; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Her grandsons are set to be her pallbearers with Earl Cook, Curtis Brinlee, Clester Wingo and Kenneth Brinlee serving as honorary pallbearers.

Barbara Ann Lee

Memorial services for the wife of former resident Ronny Lee, Barbara Ann Lee, were held at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church in Katy, Texas.

Her remains are to be interred in the Lee family plot in Reydon.

Lee died Feb. 3, 2005 at home of brain cancer. She fought bravely for two years and was a patient of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Hospital in Houston, Texas.

She is survived by her husband of the Houston, Texas home; two children; her mother, Thelma Coym of Reydon; three brothers and her in-laws, Ray and Louta Lee of Seminole.

Hanna Lee

Graveside services for longtime Seminole resident Hanna Helen Lee are scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday at Little Cemetery with Rev. Carl Whitfield to officiate.

The services will be under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Lee, 82, died Saturday, June 11, 2005 at Seminole Estates Nursing Home. She was born Dec. 25, 1923 in Pennsylvania to Herman and Sarah Bogas.

She married John W. Lee, who preceded her in death on June 8, 2002. She was a homemaker.

Surviving is her brother-in-law Robert Lee of Tulsa.

Barbara Lehman

Graveside services for longtime Seminole County resident Barbara June Lehman are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Lone Dove Cemetery.

The service will be under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home.

Lehman, 67, died Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Oklahoma City.

She was born Oct. 29, 1937 in Sasakwa to J.T. and Mable Kay (Harjo) Heard.

Lehman was a homemaker and a member of Bird Creek Baptist Church.

Her mother and grandmother, Bertie Casteel preceded her in death.

Surviving is her father of Konawa; son Bobby Lehman of Konawa; two sisters, Wilba Hailey of Davis and Stacy Ann Heard of Hinton and two grandchildren.

Frank Leitka

Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Frank Leitka are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wewoka Indian Baptist Church.

Rev. Charlie Denny and Rev. Houston Tiger will be officiating the service.

Interment is to follow services at the Goat Family Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Wake services are scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight at Wewoka Indian Baptist Church.

Leitka, 82, died Saturday, March 12, 2005 in Oklahoma City. He was born Aug. 27, 1922 in Wewoka to Apler and Sukey (Foster) Leitka.

He graduated from Wewoka High School and attended college. Leitka later married Lorraine Fowler in Wewoka on July 2, 1962.

Leitka was a welder for Fish Engineering Company and was well known as an avid Wewoka sports fan, and for his firecracker stand.

He was a member of the Wewoka Indian Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, and a member of the Roberts Drug Store Coffee Club.

His parents and wife preceded him in death.

Surviving him are his sons, Daniel Leitka and Bill Marks, both of Wewoka; daughters Sheila Leitka of Wewoka, Jacque Cates of Tennessee and Mary Ann Whitmore of California; 11 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren and sister Susie Walters of Wewoka.

Raymond Lemmings

A private family ceremony has been scheduled for Konawa resident Raymond Gene Lemmings under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home.

Lemmings, 61, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2005 at his residence. He was born Oct. 31, 1943 in Seminole to Alton Willard Lemmings and Francis Lee (Edney) Lemmings.

He worked in construction and carpentry and was of the Baptist faith.

His father preceded him in death.

Surviving is his mother, Francis Lemmings of Oklahoma City; four sons, Ray Lemmings of Konawa, Ricky Lemmings of Shawnee, Randy Lemmings of Bethel and Roger Lemmings of Shawnee.

In addition, he has three brothers, Ronnie Lee Lemmings of Konawa, Jerry Ray Lemmings and Paul Lemmings, both of Oklahoma City; one sister, Francis Jane Jackson of Oklahoma City and seven grandchildren.

Merrel Lemons

Graveside services for longtime Seminole resident Merrel "Bud" Lemons are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Little Cemetery with Danny Williams to officiate.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Lemons, 87, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005 at Seminole Medical Center. He was born Nov. 6, 1918 in Durant to Edmond Lemons and Rachel Ann (Gregory) Lemons.

Bud was a graduate of Seminole High School and he married Sheila Gibson on April 26, 1974 in Sapulpa.

He was a retired Lt. Commander in the United States Navy and flew as a Naval Pilot from 1936 – 1960. Bud served in World War II and the Korean War.

Following his service, Bud was a pilot and instructor who taught flying classes at Spartan School of Aviation in Jones Airport near Tulsa, before retiring in 1972. Bud loved flying and did so until his retirement.

He also taught school at Tulsa University for many years. Lemons was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in McAlester.

His parents and two brothers, A.J. and Earl Lemons preceded him in death.

Surviving is his wife Sheila of the home in Seminole; daughter and son-in-law, Lenita and Steve Olsen of Wewoka; two brothers, George Lemons of Tulsa and Jim Lemons of McQueeney, Texas; two grandchildren, Joshua Neff of Longview, Texas and Carlye and husband Terry Henderson of Wewoka and three great-grandchildren, Sago Miles, Jr., Jazmine Miles and Alexis Henderson.

Ella Ligon

Funeral services were held for former Wewoka resident Ella Lo Dema Martin Ligon at 11 a.m. on March 22 at Smith & Kernke Chapel in Oklahoma City.

Interment took place following the ceremony in Wewoka.

Ligon, 84, of Oklahoma City, died Friday, March 18, 2005. She was born on Aug. 9, 1920 in Eddy to O.B. and Katherine Taylor.

She grew up on farmland near Tonkawa and she was active in 4-H and graduated from N.O.J.C. and Prep School in 1936. Ligon also attended Oklahoma A&M and graduated in 1942.

Following graduation she worked for the extension service and married H. Dale Martin in June 1943, and who died in 1956.

In Dec. 1960, she married J.A. Ligon, who died in January 1975.

Her parents, her siblings J. Rodney Taylor, Leta Walker, Mary Gilbert and Frank Taylor preceded her in death.

Her children Hank Martin of Coppell, Texas, Marilyn Kanoski of Oklahoma City and three grandchildren survive her.
