Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Arlita Sue Martinez are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Frank Trent to officiate.
The family will be receiving friends from 6 – 8:30 p.m. at Criswell Funeral Home.
Interment is to be determined at a later date. The services are under the direction of Criswell Funeral Home in Ada.
Martinez, 46, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005 in Wewoka. She was born Aug. 30, 1958 in Oklahoma City to Howard and Charlene Newton.
She attended school in Omaha, Neb. And moved to Ada from Wewoka last year.
On Feb. 14, 1995 she married Jose Martinez. She was a health care provider, certified medicine administrator, certified nurse’s assistant and habilitation training specialist.
She attended the Church of God and was a member of the Red Hat Society.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Daniel Russell of Wewoka and Joseph Russell of Hastings, Neb.; daughter Kama Smith of Ada; stepbrother Charles Cheek of Columbus, Neb. and one grandson.
Benny Allen Marx
Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident Benny Allen Marx are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tommy Clark to officiate.
Interment is to follow services at Cummins Cemetery in Maud under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Marx, 70, died Friday, June 10, 2005 at Veteran’s Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born April 4, 1935 in Harjo to Benny and Viola (Smith) Marx.
He married Mildred Jo Hall on Nov. 12, 1960 in Enid. She preceded him in death on Nov. 17, 2002. He was of the Baptist faith
Marx served in the United States Army in Germany from 1948-1955. He worked as an oilfield truck driver for Ronnie Allison Trucking and retired in 1995.
Surviving him is one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Teddy Knizek of Seminole; four daughters and sons-in-law, Edwana "Snookie" and Kenneth Gayler of Wewoka, Glenda and Doug Ford of Seminole, Diana and Barry Smith of Jesup, Ga. and Leslie and Roy Griffin of Holdenville.
In addition, one brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Leona Marx of Hephzibah, Ga.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Edith and Robert Boren of Tuttle, Lorene Stalnaker of Maud and Ola Williams of Maud also survive him.
Pall bearers for the services will be Tommy Standlee, Ronnie Dice, Ronnie Alison, William Walker, Clayton Cooley, Rex Cooley Jr. and Rex Cooley Sr.
Winford Matthews Jr.
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Winford F. Matthews, Jr. are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Clark and Mark Senter officiating.
Interment is to follow services at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Matthews, 87, died Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at Norman Veterans Center. He was born Nov. 16, 1917 in Seminole to Winford Matthews Sr. and Ara Dell Barnett Matthews.
He graduated from Seminole High School in 1936, where he was an outstanding football player. He also played baseball with the Gas House Gang and the Seminole Jaycees sandlot teams.
Matthews attended Oklahoma A & M College and he entered the United States Army in 1942 and served in the European Theater of War until 1946.
He married Henrietta Harbin in 1947 and had four children, Janice Rae Prober, Mark, Steve and Brent Matthews.
Matthews worked at Hinderliter Tool Company and retired from Hooten Oil company in 1982.
He married Verna May Troop on July 17, 1982 in Seminole. She survives him of the home.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Seminole, where he worked in many positions and retired as a Deacon in the church.
His parents and three children, Janice Rae Prober, Mark Matthews, Brent Matthews, and one step-grandchild Robert Hawkins preceded him in death.
Surviving him are his sisters, Jerry Sullivan and husband Cecil Sullivan, and Vivian Morris, all of Seminole; one brother James Matthews and wife Teresa of Poco Rivera, Calif.; step-brothers David Forsen and wife Sylvia of Seminole and Danny Forsen and wife Nadine of Greenville, Texas and step-sister Margaret Wooten of Hobbs, N.M.
In addition is his son Stephen Phillip Matthews of Fairfax, Va.; daughter-in-law Mrs. Mark Matthews of Hawaii; three grandsons, Byron and Jesse Matthews of Phoenix, Ariz. and Matthew Mincher of Tahlequah who survive him.
Also surviving him are three stepchildren, Ronald Hawkins, Patricia Sullivan and husband Bob Sullivan, and Gina Pace and husband Rodney Pace; six step-grandchildren, Austin Thomas, Lauren and Brendan Pace, all of Seminole, Marsha Hawkins of McKinney, Texas, Bill Hawkins of Aubrey, Texas and Ronica Rhude of Cottage Grove, Wis. and many nieces and nephews.
Casket bearers for the services will be Don Raney, Dub Childers, D.C. Neal, Pat Stafford, Norman Waddell and Norman Carpenter.
Honorary casket bearers are Irv Mullen, Jack Reynolds, Hulett Edgmon, Fred Ellison, Bob Lennard and Kenneth Mendenhall.
Paul Maxwell
Graveside service for former Seminole resident Paul Maxwell was scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Rest Haven memorial Garden in Seminole. Chaplain Byron Neufield was set to officiate.
Swearingen Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Maxwell died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, at his residence in Enid. He was 85.
He was born Jan. 21, 1920, in Wilson to Houston Maxwell and Lillian (Reid) Maxwell.
On March 7, 1942, he married Leona (Bray) Maxwell in Ardmore.
Maxwell was a retired oilfield pumper and roustabout.
He served in the Army during World War II as a private first class.
Maxwell attended the Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters, three brothers, one daughter and one granddaughter.
Maxwell is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Jeanie Maxwell of Seminole and Richard and Shari Maxwell of Yukon; one daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Ray Carson of Ames; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Maxwell’s grandsons are set to act as his casketbearers.
Daisy Mayfield
A memorial service for longtime Seminole resident Daisy Lorene Mayfield are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Glen Pence to officiate.
The services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Mayfield, 87, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005 at The Woodlands, Texas. She was born April 16, 1918 in Crystal Springs, Ark. to Marvin Fikes and Annie Turner.
She married Johnie Mayfield on May 21, 1942 in Coalgate and the couple owned and operated a poultry farm. She was a member of the First Christian Church.
Her parents, husband and two brothers preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Jonna K. Cox and Mary A. Parsons, both of Seminole; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers that donations may be made to the ALS Association in memory of Daisy.
Elfreeda Maynard
Funeral services are scheduled for Wewoka resident Elfreeda Maynard at 10 a.m. Saturday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Roy Robertson is to officiate.
Interment is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Maynard, 89, died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005 in Oklahoma City Hospital. She was born Jan. 1, 1916 in Little to William W. McMullin and Delila Carr McMullin.
She attended Prairie Valley School and married Lonnie Maynard on July 31, 1933.
Maynard worked as a seamstress for local shops and cooked in local nursing homes. She retired from Ann’s Dress Shop.
She was a member of First Assembly of God Church, where she served on Women’s Mission and was President and Secretary of PTA in California.
Her parents; husband, Lonnie (4-9-69); sons, Wayne Maynard and Carl Maynard and four grandchildren preceded her in death.
Surviving is daughter Paula Kiker of Wewoka and eight grandchildren.
Jimmie Dan ‘J.D.’ ‘Shaky’ McCarley
Funeral services for Jimmie Dan "J.D." "Shaky" McCarley are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with rev. Tommy Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
McCarley died Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at Pioneer Nursing Home. He was 85.
He was born Feb. 10, 1920, in Texas to "Jim" James Dan McCarley and Verda M. McCarley.
On Dec. 21, 1951, he married Joyce N. (Cantrell) in Odessa, Texas. She preceded him in death on Feb. 9, 1992.
McCarley retired from Pan America Petroleum Company in Odessa, Texas working 20 years. He worked in Seminole for Century 21 for five years.
McCarley lived in Seminole County for 30 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seminole and of the Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Verda McCarley and his wife, Joyce Neil McCarley.
McCarley is survived by one son, Jay Dee McCarley of Seminole; daughter-in-law, Claire Branson of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren, Hunter McCarley, Megan McCarley Giddens, and Jason Dwayne McCarley; and two great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Starr Giddens, and Jayden Alan Giddens.
Pallbearers are Jason McCarley, Hunter McCarley, Eric Giddens, Mike McGruder and Ralph Adams. Honorary bearers are the Masonic Lodge’s members.
Nettie Viola McCluskey
Funeral services for former Seminole resident Nettie Viola McCluskey are scheduled for 2 p.m. in Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is to begin at 1 p.m.
Interment is to follow the services at Maple Grove Cemetery.
McCluskey, 95, seamstress for Ann’s Dress Shop, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005. She was born Jan. 18, 1910 in Pauls Valley to John and Nancy Viola (Fox) Hargis.
Nettie attended Seminole High School, graduating in 1928. From the covered wagon that ran over her body and paralyzed her for months, to the jet plane that flew her to greet new grandbabies, Nettie experienced life for almost a century.
The third born of six children, she kept up with two older brothers and cared for a younger brother and two sisters. She enjoyed participating in any sport the brothers would allow.
When her sisters fell ill, she mothered their children, Douglas, Charlene, Nancy and Wanda, as they were her own.
At times life was hard, but she lived it to the fullest, always loving and protecting her daughters and grandchildren, and they in turn loved and honored their mother and grandmother. Life won’t be the same without Nettie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, on April 11, 1984.
Survivors include daughters, Verna Lou and husband Rev. Lester Bottoms of Wagoner, Vivian Louise Kirkpatrick of Marysville, Calif., Barbara Joan and husband Joe Resneder of Oklahoma City and Karen Sue Smith; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren.
