Vela Morris

Funeral services for Wewoka resident Vela Morris are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel.

Interment is to follow services at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Morris, 92, died Thursday, March 24, 2005. She was born June 1, 1913 in Conway, Ark. to James and Lula (Gunn) Finton.

She married Joe Morris on Aug. 13, 1942 in Wewoka.

Morris came to Wewoka in 1923, graduating from Wewoka Schools. She has worked in various jobs with the most recent being Chaney Drug, prior to her retirement.

Her parents, husband, five brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.

Survivors include three nephews Jimmy Simpson of Bakersville, Calif., Mike Jenkins of McLain, Texas and Richard Lemon of Wewoka and two nieces, Pat Stober of Richardson, Texas and Kathleen Gibson of Wewoka.

Clanan Morrison

Funeral services for Wewoka resident Clanan (Sockman) Morrison are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at Macedonia Baptist Church.

Rev. Clive Cochran of Rockhill Baptist Church is to officiate with burial to take place at Sowatske Cemetery in Seminole.

Services are under the direction of Myers Mortuary in Wewoka.

Morrison, 64, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2005 in Oklahoma City. He was born Dec. 20, 1941 in Seminole County to Sonny and Vina (Deail) Morrison.

He lived in Seminole County all of his life and worked for Seminole Oil Company for 10 years and Dowell Oil for five years. Morrison was a member of Rockhill Baptist Church.

His parents; two brothers, A.B. and Cullie and two sisters, Bertheen and Irene preceded him in death.

Surviving are sons, Anthony Morrison, Terrance Morrison and Clanan Morrison Jr., all of Oklahoma City; daughter, LaTonya Morrison; brothers, Harvey Hayes Morrison of Saginaw, Mich., Denver C. Malone of Seminole, Richard John Cochran of Oklahoma City and Bennie John Cochran of Seminole; sisters, Clemmie Daniels of Denver, Col., Demple Tellie of Midwest City, Christine Wimbush of Wewoka, Rovan Jenkins of Allens, Dora Thomas of Shawnee, Tillie Bizzell of Spencer, Dianna Lewis of Wewoka, Luretta Hornsby of Hobbs, N.M. and Opal Griffins of Phoenix, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Rose Morrison

Funeral services for former Seminole resident Rose Marie (Price) Morrison are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at New Lima High School auditorium.

Interment is to follow services at Lima Cemetery under the direction of Howard-Harris Funeral Home in Oklahoma City.

Morrison, 52, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005 at her Oklahoma City residence. She was born July 4, 1953 in New Lima to Thelma and Lee Earnest Price Sr.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Surviving are her five children, Anthony, Marcus, Christy, Clarence and Scotty; two sisters, Shirley Sanders of Seminole and Vernetta Ransom of Oklahoma City and two brothers, Lee E. Price Jr. and Charles Price, both of Oklahoma City.

Bertha (Moutaw) Morton

Funeral services for Seminole resident Bertha "Marie" (Moutaw) Morton are set for 2 p.m. Monday, at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Seminole, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.

Rev. David McDougal and Colt Kreeger are scheduled to officiate the services.

Burial will follow at Little Cemetery.

Morton died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, at home, at the age of 85.

She was born May 19, 1919, in Maud, to Joseph Louis Moutaw and Florence (Wise) Moutaw.

She married Virgil Morton on Nov. 11, 1946, in Seminole. Virgil preceded her in death in January of 1995.

Morton worked for Douglas Aircraft in Oklahoma City for two years, Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kan., for 17 years, and the Nellie Don Factory in Nevada, Mo., for 20 years.

She lived in Seminole for 14 years, after moving here from Nevada, Mo.

She was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Seminole.

Besides her husband, Morton was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Alvin Moutaw, Floyd (Rod) Moutaw, and E.L. Lancaster.

She is survived by two sons, LeRoy Lancaster and Jerry Don Lancaster, both of Seminole; one step-son, Robert (Bob) Morton, of Nevada, Mo.; one daughter, Lavonne Ware, Seminole; a brother, James Moutaw, of Harjo; one sister, Betty Jo Gamble of Seminole; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Casket bearers for Morton are slated to be Jeff Dean, Kyle Kreeger, Shane Sorrels, Brad Lancaster, Scott Lancaster, and Colt Kreeger.

Honorary bearers are Herman Wilson, Harvey Young, Pete Stawley, Howard Young, Curtis Jacobs, Barry Lancaster, and John Knight.

Shirley Alice Asbury Mosley

Memorial services for former Seminole resident, Shirley Mosley, are scheduled for 11 a.m., Thursday at Barnard Memorial United Methodist Church in Holdenville. Rev. Joe Robinson is set to officiate under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.

Mosley died in an auto accident with her daughter on Sunday, June 12, 2005, in Elk City. She was 75.

Mosley was born Oct. 16, 1930, in Luther to Luke and Cleta Asbury.

She was raised in Seminole and attended school in Mountain View, Butner and Ferguson. She graduated from Tulsa Central High School and worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for Mosley Well Service for many years.

On Aug. 16, 1948, she married Curtis Mosley in Chandler. He preceded her in death on Feb. 1, 2004.

Mosley hobbies included collecting teacups and she had many cookbooks.

She often spent time with her daughter and grandchildren.

Mosley is survived by one sister, Betty Phillips of Spencer and two grandchildren.

Grace E. Muir

Funeral services for former Wewoka High School teacher Grace E. Muir are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Wewoka. Viewings are scheduled for Thursday and Friday at the Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka.

Muir died on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005. She was 97.

Muir was born in Enid, where she grew up, on March 4, 1908, the youngest of 10 children. She attended Phillips University in Enid and graduated with two degrees, a Bachelor of Science degree and a Bachelor of Oratory degree.

On May 25, 1935, she married Orville A. Muir. They were married for 70 years.

Muir taught English, speech, public speaking, debate and drama at Wewoka High School. She also participated in various clubs and church work. She belonged to P.E.O., Athenam Club, Garden Club, AAUW, and the Order of the Eastern Star where at one time she was Worthy Matron.

Her daughter, Joyce Wolf, preceded her in death.

Muir is survived by her husband, Orville; two daughters, Gloria Mundell of Lakewood, Colo., and Linda Ferguson of San Dimas, Calif.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Martha Belle Myers

Funeral services for former longtime Seminole County resident Martha Belle (Knowles) Myers are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Carl Whitfield to officiate.

Interment is to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Myers, 85, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2005 at Norman Oklahoma Grace Living Center in Norman. She was born Feb. 6, 1920 in Harjo, Okla. to Phillip E. Knowles and Gertrude Hannon.

She married Melvin Myers in August 1938 in Holdenville and was a homemaker.

Myers was a member of Congregational Methodist Church and was a Sunday school teacher and a very committed Christian.

Her parents and her husband (died Aug. 23, 2003) preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons, Ronald Myers of Norman and Leonard Myers of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Connie Jaggers of Tulsa; two sisters, Ollie Roper of Tecumseh and Alma Ruth Hopper of Pink; 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Daniel Newman

Memorial services for former Wewoka resident Daniel Keith Newman, of Chandler, were held at 2 p.m. yesterday at the First Baptist Church in Chandler with Rev. Rick Blackwell officiating.

Services were under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler.

Newman, 72, died Saturday, March 12, 2005 at his home. He was born in Wewoka June 19, 1932 to James Palmer and Ellen (Hooper) Newman.

He worked for the Wewoka Fire Department before joining the United States Army in 1953.

Upon his return from service he became an Oklahoma Highway Patrolman and retired with over 25 years of service.

He married Kathy Brown in Chandler on December 6, 1986 and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chandler.

His parents, one brother and three sisters preceded him in death.

Surviving him is his wife, Kathy Newman of the home; two sons, Mark Allen Newman of Wewoka and Todd LeAlan Herrmann of Tryon and four daughters, Kimberlee Dannette Edwards of New Port, Ark., Janet Grissom of Wewoka, Teresa Lynette Trammell of Oklahoma City and Marsha Michelle Wilson of Agra.

Brooklin Nichols

Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka for one-month old Brooklin Noel Nichols.

Nichols died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005. She was born July 13, 2005 in Oklahoma City to Amanda Nichols.

Surviving is her mother of El Reno; one sister, Madison Nichols of El Reno; grandparents, Marsha and Dave Nichols of El Reno and maternal grandmother Delores Jackson of Wewoka.

Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka is handling the local arrangements.

Bill Gene Nicholson

Graveside services for Bill Gene Nicholson, son of Seminole resident Vina Nicholson, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the Little Cemetery with Brother Woods of the Wolf Free Will Baptist Church officiating.

Viewing was set to run from noon until 8 p.m. today at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home. Interment is under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee.

Nicholson died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital. He was 64.

He was born to Randall and Vina (Tidwell) Nicholson in Prague on March 4, 1940.

On Oct. 11, 1957, Nicholson married Kathleen Drumright in Anadarko.

He was a member of the National Guard and the Free Will Baptist Church.

Nicholson often worked on cars and his old truck.

He retired as a building inspector for the City of Okmulgee and was a member of IBEW Local 584.

His father, Randall Nicholson, preceded him in death.

Nicholson is survived by his wife Kathleen (Drumright) Nicholson of the home; daughter, Tina Taylor; sons, Timmy, Ricky and Michael Nicholson; his mother, Vina Nicholson of Seminole; and three grandsons.
