Graveside services for longtime Seminole resident Phillip Eric Nicholson are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday at Thrace Cemetery near Bowlegs with Rev. Roy Robertson to officiate.
The interment will be under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Nicholson, 64, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005 at Seminole Medical Center. He was born Nov. 7, 1940 in Seminole to Eric and Esther (Wright) Nicholson Fowler.
He graduated from Seminole High School in 1959 and attended Seminole Junior College for two years and then Barber College.
Nicholson married Margaret Matthews on Nov. 10, 1983 in Bowlegs. Nicholson was a barber for 20 years, then worked as a security guard at Wrangler before retiring in 1996.
His father, mother and stepfather, Bud Fowler all preceded him in death.
Surviving him is his wife Margaret Nicholson of their Bowlegs home; six daughters, Johnna Nicholson and Chelsea Nicholson, both of the home, Julie Riddle of Wewoka, Angie Richardson of Seminole, Kay Dominquez of Arlinton, Texas and Shanna Johnson of Enid; one son, Eric Nicholson of Tulsa; five grandsons and five granddaughters.
Casket bearers for the service will be Clifford Stafford, Rick Carter, Zak King, James riddle, Donny Skaggs and Trey Richardson.
Honorary bearers will be Hoyle Schlutter, Ronnie Richardson, Jimmy Mitchell, Wayne Matthews, Kenneth Matthews, Bob Northcott, Gene Skaggs and John Smith.
Wilma "Wood" Noah
Funeral service for Wilma "Wood" Noah were held Thursday at Memorial Park in Ada with arrangements under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
She was born in May of 1913 to R.L. and Maud (Sharp) Norman in Francis. Due to the death of her mother R.L. and Minnie Norman raised her.
She grew up in the Sasakwa area and married Lawrence B. Wood. After his death she later remarried to Bud Noah and he also preceded her in death.
Her three parents; two husbands; four brothers, G.L. Norman, Clyde Norman, Meredith Norman, and Robert S. Norman; three sisters, Atha Pickens, Jean Turpin and Beatrice Bullock preceded her in death.
Survivors are adopted daughter Jeannie Chandler; five nephews, Richard Norman, Richard Pickens, Tommy Norman, Lynn Norman and Rob Norman; six nieces, Betty Jean Smith, Linda Surber, Clydette Jones, Susan Norman, Candace Norman, and Patsy Rideout; and three grandchildren.
Remembrance can be made to Church of Christ of Seminole Nation Museum in Wewoka.
Harry Nogle
Funeral services for Sasakwa resident Harry Elroy Nogle are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Sasakwa Assembly of God Church.
Rev. Wesley Martin and Rev. John Lively are to officiate.
Interment is to follow services at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Nogle, 86, died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005 in Oklahoma City. He was born June 8, 1919 in Belfield, N.D. to Bartley Nogle and Nettie (Goins) Nogle.
He served in World War II and the Korean War and was of the Presbyterian faith.
Nogle worked in construction and retired from the BIA at Chilocco Indian School and has been a Sasakwa resident since 1980.
His parents preceded him in death.
Surviving is his wife, Artie (Wilson) Nogle of Sasakwa; sons, Thomas Nogle and Harry Dean Nogle, both of Abilene, Texas; stepson, Roy Brown Jr. of Wewoka; daughter, Stephanie Ruth Hettenbach of Salina, Kan.; stepdaughters, Patricia Thompson and Karen McFaeran, both of Sasakwa and Deborah Epperly of Hooker, Okla.
In addition, brother, Sullivan Nogle of Cayuga, Ind., 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive him.
Lonnie Norman
Graveside services for longtime Konawa area resident Lonnie Norman are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka with Rev. Drew Issacs officiating.
Services will be under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home in Konawa.
Norman, 59, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005 at Norman Veterans Center. He was born July 10, 1945 in McAlester to John Edward and Claretta (Merriman) Norman.
He has lived in Konawa for the past 32 years and worked as a road grader operator for Seminole County District #2. Prior to this he worked in District #1 and #2 for the past 17 years.
Norman was a spec-4 veteran with the United States Army and was a member of the VFW post in Konawa.
His father preceded him in death.
Surviving him is his mother of Konawa; daughter Ashley Norman of Konawa and three brothers, Charles Norman of Shawnee, R.C. Norman of Konawa and Nolan Norman of Prague.
Howard Nunnelley
Private family services will be scheduled at a later date at Little Cemetery for longtime Seminole resident Howard Clint Nunnelley.
Arrangements are being handled by Swearingen Funeral Home.
Nunnelley, 52, died Friday, March 4, 2005 at Seminole Medical Center. He was born Nov. 17, 1952 in Redding, Calif. to Herman Caywood Nunnelley and Ima (Watts) Nunnelley.
He attended Strother Schools. Nunnelley married Kyla Jean Leonra in Seminole on Nov. 4, 1978.
Nunnelley worked as a roughneck in the Seminole area oilfields and was a jack of all trades. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Surviving him is his wife of the home; three sons, Houston Craig Nunnelley of Waterloo, Iowa, Holland Chad Nunnelley of Earlsboro and Hagen Caleb Nunnelley of Seminole; three sisters, Faye Cook of Eufaula, Reta Davison of Seminole and Debbie Cawkens of Shawnee and two grandchildren.
Naomi Oakes
Funeral services for Seminole native Naomi Ruth Oakes are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Little Cemetery Chapel under the direction of Ford Funeral Home of Midwest City.
Oakes died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at her home in Del City.
She was born June 4, 1946, in Seminole, to William Roy and Mary Dona Sibley.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and her hobbies included garage sales.
Survivors include her son, Roy Wayne Oakes of Tuttle; one brother, Jack Sibley, Midwest City; four sisters, Towanda Young of Seminole, Billie Parks of Greenville, Ind., Delorise Melton, York, S.C., and Linda Hughes, Perryton, Texas; and six grandchildren.
Alma Irene Coder Oaks
Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Alma Irene Coder Oaks will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Waples United Methodist Church with Dr. Jim Bowden officiating.
Interment will be Wednesday at Okmulgee Cemetery. Family visitation is scheduled for tonight from 7 to 8:00 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Home.
Alma Irene Coder Oaks, age 90, of Denison, passed away Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005 at Texhoma Medical Center in Denison. She was born on Feb. 4, 1915 in Okmulgee to Harvey and Phoebe (Nower) Coder.
She graduated from Okmulgee High School at the age of 16 and received her college degree in fine arts from Okmulgee College in 1934.
Oaks married James Earl Oaks on Aug. 18, 1934 in Eufaula. She and her husband had been married 65 years.
The couple lived in Okmulgee until 1941, when Earl was transferred to Wewoka. They moved to Denison in 1958 and lived there until 1966 when they were transferred to Electra, Texas and returned to Denison in 1998.
She was a member of the Criterian Class at Waples Methodist Church and taught Sunday school at the First Methodist Church to pre-schoolers for many years while living in Wewoka.
Oak was a den mother for her son’s cub scouts and for her daughters’ campfire girls organizations.
She and her husband were experienced ballroom dancers and belonged to several ballroom clubs through out the years in Wewoka and Okmulgee.
Oaks had been an avid bridge player for the last 65 years and played duplicate bridge and accrued master points. Alma had been an active member of the Wewoka Bridge Club, and several bridge groups in Denison over the years. She was also an active member in the Wewoka Garden Club.
Surviving are her three children, Joyce Oaks Moor of Broken Arrow, Karyl Oaks Welch of Sherman, Texas and Jim Oaks of Pottsboro, Texas; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two step-grandsons.
Her husband, James E. Oaks in 1999, parents, Harvey and Phoebe Coder, two brothers, H. C. and Earnest Coder and one daughter, Barbara Diane Oaks, preceded Alma in death in 1942.
Pallbearers will be Barrett Oaks, Jim Oaks, Robb McCauley, Jon Moor, Bob Welch and Jimmy James. Honorary pallbearers are Frank Darnell, Orvid Collins, Ab White, and Jack Kempsy.
Arrangements are under the directions of Fisher Funeral Home, located at 604 West Main in Denison.
Ray Emmett O’Daniel
Ray Emmett O’Daniel went to be with the Lord on June 7, 2005.
Ray was born on Oct. 30, 1923 in Elmore City to Emmett Hern (Jack) and Grace Pearl (Moore) O’Daniel.
He descended from a hard working father and mother who moved to Maud in 1926.
On Dec. 26, 1946, he married Betty Jo Richard after he came home from serving in the Navy during WWII.
He touched many people’s lives with his compassion, funny stories, and good humor. He loved to be around people.
He worked as a butcher for his father in the O’Daniel grocery until 1981, when he became the owner.
He belonged to the volunteer fire department of Maud until he retired.
He was a former member of the Maud City Council, and the Maud school board.
He loved working with his cattle and in his garden, and he enjoyed sharing his fruits and vegetables with others.
He was saved and a member of the Church of God in Maud.
He loved his wife, son, daughters and grandchildren very much!
He is survived by his wife of the home; one son, Charley O’Daniel and wife, Trela of Yukon; four daughters, Kathryn Sue "Susie" O’Daniel of Maud, Mary Hopper and husband Clarence of Maud, Debbie Malcom of Maud, Penny Hurd and husband Brent of Bridgeport, Texas; two brothers, Howard O’Daniel of Ada, Curtis O’Daniel of Maud, and one sister, Jeanne Watkins of Purcell; sixteen grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at the Maud High School Auditorium with Charley O’Daniel and Horace Griffin officiating under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home.
