Funeral services for former Wewoka resident, James Carl "Swampy" Rhodes, Sr. are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Eastside Church of Christ in Duncan.
Brant Stubblefield and Topper Pipkin will be officiating.
Interment will follow at New Velma Cemetery in Velma, under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.
The family will be receiving friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Rhodes, age 91, of Duncan died Monday, Aug. 29, 2005 in Duncan. He was born Oct. 11, 1913 in a livery stable in Wewoka to James and Bertha (Cummings) Rhodes.
He married Ethel Marie Sneed on Jan. 31, 1936 in Wewoka.
Rhodes graduated at the age of 16 from Wewoka High School in 1930. He retired in 1978 as a field supervisor from AMOCO Oil Company.
He was an avid golfer and a charter member of Wildhorse Golf Course, Healdton Golf Course and Wewoka Golf Course.
Rhodes got a hole-in-one at the age of 83 at the Wildhorse Golf Course in Velma, and an 83 was also what he shot.
He was a member of the Midway Church of Christ.
His parents, an infant son, one brother, George Rhodes and one grandson, John Carl Littrell preceded him in death.
Surviving is his wife Ethel Marie of the home; four daughters Chris Taylor of Dallas, Texas, June Armon of Colorado Springs, Colo., Sally Littrell of Marlow and Ann Neal of Longview, Texas; one son, James C. Rhodes of Savannah, Ga.
In addition, surviving are four sisters, Eldeva Scott of San Diego, Calif., Pauline Looney of Denver, Colo., Earline Martin of Clifton, Texas, Frankie Smith of New Braunfels, Texas; one brother, Ray Rhodes of Oklahoma City; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Bob Taylor, Bill Littrell, Charles "Butch" Littrell, Scott Armon, Michael Hart, Christopher Hart, Nick Rhodes and Jacob Rhodes.

Karen Richards
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Karen Deneise Richards are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Home with Chris Stinnett to officiate.
Interment is to follow services at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Seminole under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Richards, 46, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at home. She was born Jan. 5, 1959 in Seminole to L.D. and Jessie (Bray) Dye.
She was a graduate of Varnum High School. She married Jerry Richards in Seminole on Jan. 19, 1974.
Richards was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. She was a loving mother and wife, and a caring person and wonderful grandmother.
She is survived by husband, Jerry Richards of the home; father L.D. Dye of Seminole; one brother, Gary Dye of Seminole; two sisters, Regina King of Pauls Valley and Linda Branson of Seminole; one daughter, Kerri Pallas of Seminole; four grandchildren, Shelbi, Jerry, Sierra and Jessie Pallas, all of Seminole and 12 nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers for the service will be George Richards, Brad King, Chris Dye, Leslie King, Jason Branson and Ryan Branson.
Karen Cecelia Richardson
Memorial service for former Seminole resident Karen Cecelia (Selfridge) Richardson is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Swearingen Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Richardson died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005 in Helena, Mont., at the age of 48.
She was born Nov. 6, 1956, in Holdenville to Donald Vincent Selfridge, Sr. and Earlene (Fine) Selfridge.
Richardson worked as a rural postal carrier.
She was a Desert Storm veteran and had served in the Army National Guard for 13 years. She achieved the rank of Specialist 4 in the Army National Guard.
Richardson was preceded in death by her grandparents, Dewey and Ella Fine of Marlow, and Fred and Opal Selfridge of Seminole.
She is survived by her father and mother of Seminole; two daughters, Janiece Hanley of Jacksonville, Fla., and Kristi Richardson of Helena, Mont.; one brother, Don Selfridge, Jr. of Seminole; two sisters, Teresa Trammell of Seminole, and Lisa Selfridge of Ada; and two grandchildren.
Karen Richardson
Funeral services were held in Montana for former Seminole resident Karen Cecelia Selfridge Richardson.
Richardson, 48, died Feb. 6, 2005 in Helena, Mont. She was born Nov. 6, 1956 in Holdenville to Don and Earlene Selfridge.
She attended New Lima High School and worked as a postal carrier.
Richardson served in the Oklahoma Army National Guard, including a tour in Kuwait during the first Gulf War.
Surviving are her parents; two daughters, Janiece Hanley and Kristi Richardson; one brother, Don Selfridge Jr.; two sisters, Teresa and Lisa Selfridge and two grandchildren.
Sereda ‘Ruth’ Richardson
Funeral services for longtime Seminole County resident, Sereda "Ruth" Richardson, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel.
Rick Maldron, Ruth’s brother, and Randy Ethridge, Ruth’s brother-in-law are to officiate.
Interment is to follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Richardson, 54, passed away Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005 at Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was born Jan. 30, 1951 in Casa Grande, Ariz. to George Lee Madron and Della Catherine (Cross) Madron.
Ruth married Jim Richardson on Nov. 9, 1982 in Wewoka and worked at the Seminole Wrangler Plant until her retirement in 1993.
She has been a Seminole County resident for the past 26 years.
Her father and one brother, Thurman Lewayne Madron, preceded her in death.
Surviving is her mother, Della Catherine Sossman of Wewoka; husband Jim of the home; one son, Robert Anthony Richardson of Seminole; three daughters and sons-in-law, Dana Dalynn and Mark Turner of Fayetteville, Ark., Sereda Dawn Smart and Kimberly Renee’ and Thomas Yerby, all of Seminole.
In addition, two brothers, George Ancel Madron of Savannah, Ga. and Ricky Glenn Madron of Wewoka; three sisters, Estel Rosette Callum of McAlester, Frances Kay Ethridge of Stroud and Vicky Lynn Heffley of McAlester; seven grandchildren, Miranda Gates, Kimberly Gates, Joshua Smart, Daryck Smart, Tye Varner, Alyssa Yerby and Carlie Richardson survive her.
Casket bearers are to be Bob Northcott, Frank Cullum, Ben Cullum, Randy Madron, David Lozer and Don Madron. Honorary bearers will be Edsil Cross and Mike Madron.
The family wishes to give special thanks to all of the nurses and doctors on 7 West and 901 C.C.U. at Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City for their special care.
Buford Ray Rider
Funeral services for former Seminole County resident Buford Ray Rider are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel in Tecumseh.
Interment is to follow services at little Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.
Rider, 80, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005 in Shawnee. He was born June 21, 1924 in Oklahoma City to Floyd Buford and Stella Katherine (Cogle) Rider.
He had lived in Oklahoma City for many years, in Texas as a young child and in Seminole County in the early 70’s. Finally he moved to Shawnee in 1997, where he has lived since.
Rider attended Jackson Junior High and was a graduate of Central High School in Oklahoma City.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II on the submarine USS McLanahan.
In April 1968 he married Oma Jackson in Gainesville, Texas. He worked as a jet engine mechanic at Tinker Air Force Base before retiring to his farm in Seminole County, where he ranched for many years.
He was a member of Agnew Avenue Baptist Church in his early years, and later was a member of Cromwell Baptist Church.
In addition, he was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the American Legion and of the Boot Scooters Dance Club. He enjoyed dancing and traveling.
His wife; infant twin sons; two brothers, Buddy Rider and Gene Rider and one sister, Dorothy Champion preceded him in death.
Surviving him are his two –daughters, Diane May of Oklahoma City and Shirley Rider of Shawnee; sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Don Wood of Mustang; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Donald and Cathy Rider of Oklahoma City and Jake Rider of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Jeff Packham, Jim May, Shelly Packham and Theresa Stehr and five great-grandchildren.
Clyde Riggs
Funeral services for the father of Seminole resident Darla McKay are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Stroud with Rev. Steve Gillispie officiating.
Interment is to follow services at the Stroud Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Stroud.
Clyde Henry Riggs, 81, died Thursday, March 17, 2005 in Seminole. He was born Dec. 21, 1923 in Roland to James Henry and Nancy Ann (Seabolt) Riggs.
He was a longtime resident of the Stroud Milfay area. Riggs served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Riggs married Anna L. Scaggs on Oct. 12, 1949 in Bristow.
He retired from working for Allied Materials in Stroud and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Milfay.
His parents, three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Surviving him is his wife Anna of the home; one son, Henry Riggs of Milfay; one daughter, Darla McKay of Seminole; one sister, Bonita Coppinger of Broken Arrow and grandchildren, Mandy Danielle McKay of Tahlequah and Myria Dyan and Gerald Hayslip of Oklahoma City .
Mary Risenhoover
Services for former Seminole resident Mary M. Risenhoover are planned for 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at the Primrose Chapel with Dr. Lavonn Brown officiating.
Mary M. Risenhoover, 93, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at her home in Norman. She was surrounded by the love and support of her family and friends.
Burial will follow at 4:30 p.m. at Little Cemetery, north of Seminole, under the direction of Primrose Funeral Service.
The daughter of Bertha (Doc) and James Tom Sullinger, she was born April 28, 1912, in Seminole County.
Mary was reared on a farm near the Horseshoe Bend on the North Canadian River in Seminole County.
Her family had a large orchard with peaches, apples, pears, blackberries, strawberries, and (Mary's favorite) pecans.
Mary loved music and learned to play the mandolin. She and two of her brothers, Loyd and Aut, then formed the Sullinger trio. They were well known and performed on a weekly radio show and at local dances. Mary also enjoyed playing the piano and organ.
She was also a talented writer, and is listed in the National Anthology of Poetry.
A graduate of Paden High School, she received her bachelor’s degree from East Central University.
Mrs. Risenhoover received her master’s degree and did her post-graduate work from the University of Oklahoma.
She began her 38-year teaching career at Helena, and continued on to Hilltop, Excelsior, Okemah, Mason, and finally to Moore, from where she retired.
During her teaching career, she taught English, Psychology, Career Counseling, and was a mentor for all who needed her.
She received many recognitions during her career, including Okfuskee County Teacher of the Year. She was admired and loved by the multitude of students she taught, many of them remaining in touch with her even today.
Mary met her husband of 57 years, J.D. Risenhoover, at East Central University. They had three children, Sondra, Jerry, and Terry. In 1963, they moved from Okemah to Norman.
Mary and J.D. loved to travel, and among their favorite vacations was their European trip on which they visited nine countries. They loved the different cultures and traditions of each country, and never met a stranger regardless of where they were.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Norman for over 40 years. During that time, her love of music led her to become a member of the Fellowship Singers, with whom she traveled across the country.
Mary held many offices during her membership, and belonged to several classes at the Church.
Following her retirement from the Moore Public Schools, Mary obtained her Realtor's License and worked for the Cecil Woods Agency and later for Risenhoover Realty with her husband and son, Terry.
She was also a member, secretary, and treasurer of the Cleveland County Retired Teachers Association. She hosted numerous gatherings at their home in Norman and their summer home at Lake Wewoka.
The one thing closest to Mary’s heart was her family, and her first priority in life was being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She will be terribly missed by many, but never forgotten.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Jim Gourley of Norman; two sons and daughter-in-law, Jerry of the home and Terry and Nancy of Seminole; brother-in-law Jim of Fresno, Calif.; two granddaughters, Teresa Waxler of the home, and Amy Ortloff and husband Steve of Madill; seven grandsons; Bill Waxler of Lexington, Jack and wife Inger of Argyle, Texas, Chris and wife Lori of Plano Texas, David and wife Danielle of Norman, Paul of Taiwan, Jonathan and wife Janna of Missouri, Peter and wife Dorinda of Kansas City; four step grandsons, Chappell Easterley of Cardiff By The Sea, Calif., and Tim, Russell, and Wesley Gourley.
In addition, 17 great grandchildren, eight step grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews also survive her.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, J.D.; her parents, Doc and Jim Tom Sullinger; and her three brothers, Aut, Carl, and Loyd Sullinger.
Bearers will be Mrs. Risenhoover’s grandsons. Honorary Bearers will be Steve Ortloff, Jake Ogle, Alan Ketring, Paul Risenhoover, and Bill Waxler.
