A wake service was held for Wewoka resident Juan Jose Saldana at 7 p.m. on Monday in the Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel.
Rev. Basil Keenan led the service, which was under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Saldana, 19, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2005 in an industrial accident. He was born March 5, 1986 in Santa Maria Del Rio, Mexico to Antonio Saldana and Anselma Arredondo.
Interment will take place in the Municipal Cemetery in Santa Maria Del Rio.
Frances Sargent
Frances Marie (Stephens) Sargent passed away Jan. 21, 2005, at Seminole Medical Center at the age of 92.
A former resident of Okmulgee, she was born June 25, 1912, in Okmulgee County, Okla. to Thomas Henry Stephens and Susie Permelia (Barbee) and grew up in the Beggs and Preston area, where she attended school.
On Oct. 16,1929, in Okmulgee, she united in marriage to Eugene Sargent, who preceded her in death after 56 years of marriage on Nov. 19, 1985.
As a young bride, she moved to Seminole, where she resided for 75 years.
Frances was a housewife before going to work for Douglas Aircraft in Oklahoma Ctiy, Okla. during World War II, operating the largest drill press of its time.
After the war in 1947, she began working as the manager of the lunch counter of the local five and dime store on Main Street in Seminole, called Wackers, where she was affectionately known as "Sarge."
She retired from there in 1977 after 30 years of dedicated employment.
Since her retirement, her time was consumed by gardening, fishing, camping and spending time with her great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Mancel Stephens, Guy Connolly and Clarence Stephens; and one sister, Eula Mae (Stephens) Wood.
She is survived by one daughter, Norma Jean (Sargent) Brawner; one granddaughter and her husband, Rick and Denise (Brawner) Childs-Wisley of Seminole; three great-grandchildren, Wesley Eugene and his wife, Trena (Wade) Childs of Seminole, Justin Wayne Childs and his fiance, Charity House of Sasakwa, and Stephanie Michelle Childs of Seminole; two stepgreat-grandsons, Marty and Cody Wisley; and one great-great-grandchild, Connor Wade Childs, Seminole.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, at Cheyarah Presbyterian Church with Rev. Harold Turner officiating.
Burial will follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Sarney Camp
Wewoka resident Sarney "Junior" Camp died Monday, June 20, 2005, in Oklahoma City hospital.
Wake services were held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home. Burial followed at Oakwood Cemetery, Wewoka. Rev. Frank Moppin officiated.
Camp was born Aug. 11, 1930, in Wewoka to Sarney and Marie (Dirt) Camp.
He attended Sam School and worked as a pipefitter for a number of years.
Camp married Elizabeth Harjo in Wewoka.
He also served in the military.
Camp was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Elizabeth Camp; and son, Chiefton Camp.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Camp of the home; children, Christine Camp of Oklahoma City, Sarney Camp of Oklahoma City; Morrow Camp, of Missouri, Rogenia Camp, of Oklahoma City, Carmen Camp, of Oklahoma City, Woodrow Camp, of Oklahoma City, Amone Camp of Oklahoma City, and Donna Camp of Oklahoma City; 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Camp’s grandsons were his pallbearers.
R.G. Sartors
Funeral services for Holdenville resident R.G. Sartors are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday at Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will follow the service at Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.
Sartors, 89, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005 in Ada. He was born March 25, 1916 in Arkansas to Alonzo and Dora Bagwell Sartors.
He was raised in Asher and Francis and attended Francis Schools. On Oct. 13, 1940 he married Susie Coatney in Shawnee; she preceded him in death in 1997.
Sartors lived in Asher for 24 years and sand Springs for five years. He was a 41-year resident of Okemah before moving to Holdenville in 1976.
He worked as a mechanic and rancher who enjoyed fishing, playing dominoes and working his horses.
Sartors was a member of the Okemah Round Up Club in the late 1950’s. He married Velma Driver on June 24, 2000; she survives him.
Also surviving are three daughters, Judyth Carroll Hammer of Seminole, Patty Fariss of Holdenville and Janet Tinkler of Jenks; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Thelma Lee Savage
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Thelma Lee Savage are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, at Swearingen Funeral Chapel in Seminole.
Burial is set to follow at Little Cemetery north of Seminole.
Terry Newell and Ray Newell are set to officiate.
Savage died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at her home in Seminole, at the age of 74.
She was born April 15, 1930, in Stratford, to Astor Jones and Myrtle (Walker) Jones.
On June 1, 1951, she married Don Savage in Anchorage, Alaska. Don preceded her in death on Oct. 10, 1999.
Thelma Savage worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and First State Bank in Seminole for many years.
She also was the bookkeeper for her husband Don’s business, Don’s Backhoe, Dozer and Dump Truck Service.
Savage was a member of the Church of Christ on Walnut Street in Seminole.
She was preceded in death by her father; her husband; one son, Jeff Savage, on Aug. 31, 1980; and one brother, Evan Jones in June of 2000.
Savage is survived by her mother, of Stratford; a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Felicia Savage, of Seminole; four sisters, Lorene Wood of Stratford, Francis Mitchell of Bartlesville, Mary Donham of Maysville, and Joyce Weaver of Topeka, Kan.; and a host of other friends and family.
Ida Sawyer
Funeral services for Wewoka resident, Ida J. Sawyer are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hilltop Presbyterian Church with Elder Kelly Tiger to officiate.
Burial is to follow at Chupcogee Family Cemetery in Maud under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Wake services are scheduled for6 p.m. Monday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel.
Sawyer, 64, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005 in an Oklahoma City hospital. She was born July 1, 1941 in Wewoka to Oscar Chupcogee and Irene Wolf Chupcogee.
She married Bobby Sawyer and was a member of Hilltop Presbyterian Church.
Her parents, husband Bobby Sawyer (Dec. 17, 1999), son Michael W. Sawyer and three brothers, Roy Lee Long, Robert Lewis Long and Jimmy Long preceded her in death.
Surviving are three sons, Roy Lee Martin of Sapulpa, Michael Murphey of Konawa and Steve Factor of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Pauline Counts of Henryetta and Tina Tims of Oklahoma City; two stepdaughters, April Sawyer and Johnnie Cary, both of Shidler; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Evan Blake Scott
Funeral services for Seminole resident Evan Blake Scott are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Seminole, with Pastor Mike Murphy and Rev. Tommy Clark officiating.
Burial will follow at Little Cemetery, North of Seminole on SH 99. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Evan Blake Scott was born on Jan. 11, 2005 in Shawnee, to Brandy Martin and Kris Douglas. He died on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, in Oklahoma City, at the age of 11 months and two days.
He is survived by his mother and father; Brandy and Dallas Martin of the home; his biological father, Kris Douglas of Holdenville; grandparents, Don and Connie Scott of Seminole and Dallas and Rejeania Martin of Miami; biological grandparents, Debbie and Fred Douglas of Holdenville and great-grandmothers, Bobbye Dodgen of Shawnee and Dorothy Davis of Florida.
Charles Self
Graveside services for longtime Seminole County resident Charles "Chock" Self are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Self, 73, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005 at Wewoka Nursing Home. He was born May 10, 1931 in Bowlegs to John Harrison and Rosey Delila (Randall).
He married Helen Louise Harper and she preceded him in death on March 27, 1967. His parents, three sisters and three brothers also preceded him in death.
Self worked as a welder for an independent tank company and retired in 1983. He served in the United States Army as a private first class.
He enjoyed going to auctions, garage sales and riding motorcycles.
Surviving him are three sons, Billy Ray Self of Ringling, Charles Kenneth Self of Wewoka and Terry Jackson of Seminole; one daughter, Teresa Quiett of Wewoka; two sisters Florence Verbent of San Antonio, Texas and Pearl Pernika of Prague; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Leila M. Green Sexton
Leila M. Green Sexton was born to Elvis and Lillie (Newman) Green on Dec. 4, 1923, in Sasakwa. She attended Kight School south of Wewoka.
Leila married James D. Sexton on April 23, 1949, in Wichita Falls, Texas.
She raised her family in and around Seminole County.
Leila gave life to five children and extended her mom skills to her two nephews and a niece.
She loved to be surrounded by family and friends and though she had only the blood brother Tom, she was proud of her other brothers and seven sisters of the Sexton Family.
Leila has lived the last 16 years in Calumet where she has made numerous friends.
Leila went to her heavenly home on May 15, 2005.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brother, Tom Green; and two grandsons, Jason Daniel Sexton and Shawn Matthew Sexton.
She is survived by her five children and their spouses; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Leila wants all her loved ones to know Jesus and to know He is coming back to claim us soon.
She was a lovely lady inside and out, and will always be considered a Blessing from God by her loved ones.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Holdenville Cemetery in Holdenville. Mr. Tandy Troutman is set to officiate.
Services are under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home in El Reno.
