Services for Seminole resident Erma Jo Shannon are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005 at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Harold Turner officiating.
Interment will follow at Little Cemetery in Seminole County.
Erma Jo Shannon, age 80, of Seminole, passed away Monday, Oct. 3, 2005 at Seminole Estates Nursing Home. She was born Dec. 17, 1924 at home in Okemah to Mary Maude (Presley) and Ausbon Hayes.
Jo had two loves in her life her grandchildren, the lights of her life and her nursing home family.
She took loving care and dignity to work with her for thirty-four years as a nurse’s aide to Pioneer Nursing Home then on to Seminole Estates for two years.
Her affection for her fellow employees and her patients was genuine. She will be remembered by many past employees and patients families.
Jo gladly returned to Seminole Estates as a resident to live with some of the same residents she had cared for and to be attended to by the same people she had worked with.
To all who made Seminole Estates home to her we give our gratitude. Granny Jo a gentle soul.
Daughters, Patsy Perkins and Shelba Warner; son, Bill Kemp; sisters, Flossie Bohannon and Kathleen Hess and brothers, Burley Hayes and Richard Hayes precede her in death.
Her daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Stan Whitlock of Seminole, grandsons; Michael, Tyler, Jared and Greg Whitlock and granddaughter, Debbie Warner of New Jersey, one sister-in-law, Jean Hayes and many nieces and nephews survive her.
Cora Jane Shatswell
Funeral services for mother of Seminole resident Aaron D. Shatswell, Cora Jane Shatswell, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Assembly of God in Wetumka.
Rev. Don Williamson is set to officiate. Shatswell is to be interred in the Wetumka Cemetery under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home.
Shatswell died Saturday, July 9, 2005, in Holdenville. She was 62.
She was born Feb. 12, 1943, to R.J. and Marie (Rogers) Beasley in Wetumka.
Shatswell grew up and attended school in Weleetka and Wetumka. She was a graduate of Weleetka High School.
While still in school, she met her future husband, Rashie (Ray) O. Shatswell. They were married on Dec. 20, 1962.
She lived all over the United States and in Athens, Greece, when her husband served in the Air Force. He preceded her in death in June 1990.
Shatswell later relocated to Nebraska for a time before returning to Oklahoma and settling in Locust Grove.
She worked as an in-home provider and had worked for Weleetka Care Center (now Eidetik) and Pioneer Nursing Home of Hughes county. She worked with clients who had developmental disabilities.
Shatswell engaged in reading, solving puzzles, creating arts and crafts and had recently taken up jewelry making. She had made several pieces that she wore and gave away.
She was known to spend time with her 11 grandchildren.
Shatswell was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Shatswell and her parents.
She is survived by two sons, Rashie O. Shatswell of Locust Grove, and Aaron D. Shatswell of Seminole; daughter, Sheri A. Shatswell of Wetumka; brother, John Beasley of Locust Grove; and 11 grandchildren.
Keith Shelton
Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Keith Oneal Shelton are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. Larkin Byrd officiating.
Interment is to follow services at Westwood Cemetery under the direction of Myers Mortuary.
Shelton, 46, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005 in Oklahoma City where he resided. He was born in Chicago, Ill. March 7, 1958.
He attended Wewoka Schools and upon completion of his GED he went on and received his CLEET certification. Shelton joined and attended Jones Temple CME Church during his youth.
For employment, Shelton worked as a security officer in Austin, Texas and as a security guard for Penn Square Mall in Oklahoma City. In addition, he also worked as an instructor at Oakridge Nursing Home.
His parents preceded him in death.
Surviving him is daughter Keisha Shelton of Wewoka; brothers, Arthur Smith and Sameule Varnado both of Chicago, Ill.; sisters, Luwanda Byrd of Wewoka, Sherri Billingslea of Lewisville, Texas, Cheryl Woods of Atlanta, Ga. and Donna Johnson of Orland Park, Ill.
Frank Shepherd
Funeral services for Seminole native Frank Shepherd are set for Tuesday, Nov.8, at 2 p.m., under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
The service will take place at Cooper Funeral Chapel, with Donnie Knight officiating. Knight is the chaplain for Heartland Hospice.
Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery.
Shepherd died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005, in Shawnee, at the age of 72.
He was born to James Stanley Shepherd and Sylvia Mehalia (Hoover) Shepherd on March 3, 1933, in Seminole.
Shepherd was raised in Shawnee, Tecumseh, Bethel Acres and Meeker, attending school in Meeker. He lived in Bethel Acres for 40 years.
He was a farmer a mechanic, and drove a propane truck.
Shepherd served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On Oct. 25, 1956, he married Lorettia Rosebud in Shawnee.
He was a volunteer firefighter at the Bethel Fire Department for 21 years, serving as Fire Chief for 17 years.
Shepherd was also a member of the Tranquil Moments Water Garden Society.
He enjoyed camping and farming.
Shepherd was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James "Fred" Shepherd.
He is survived by his wife Lorettia of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol K. and Larry Eichor of Tecumseh; a son, Danny Joe Shepherd of McLoud; a grandson, Dakota K. Shepherd of Mustang; and special family friend, Kim Shepherd of Mustang.
Shepherd was also survived by four brothers and five sisters-in-law: Maurice and Beauna Shepherd, Lloyd and Barbara Shepherd, Eldon and Rose Shepherd, Walter and Nina Shepherd, and Laverne Shepherd; and two sisters and brothers-in-law: Vanetia and Jack Powers, and LaWanda and Frank Wayne Adamson.
Lois Shoemaker
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Lois Opal Shoemaker are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at highway Baptist church with Rev. Cal Hunter to officiate.
Interment will follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
Lois was born on Nov. 11, 1916 in Paden and departed this life on Sunday, June 26, 2005 in Norman, at the age of 88.
She was the daughter of Frank Melton and Tula (Massey) Brown.
Lois married Johnie Leroy Shoemaker on Nov. 10, 1938 in Paden. He preceded Lois in death on Feb. 20, 1994.
Lois was a homemaker; a 4-H Club volunteer for 25 years, and a member of the Home Demonstration Club.
She was a longtime member of the Highway Baptist Church where she also served as the custodian. In recent years, Lois served as a home health provider in the Seminole area.
Her parents; one brother; five sisters; and one infant grandson, Johnny Merle Sims, also preceded Lois in death.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Paulette Shoemaker of Seminole; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Glenn Pickle of Shawnee; grandchildren, Sherry Keisman and Teresa Winkle, both of Seminole, Donny Sims of Oklahoma City, Randy Sims of Seminole and Whitney Shoemaker of Denver, Co. and nine great-grandchildren.
Doris Shoup
Funeral services for Earlsboro native Doris Shoup were held today at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Martinez, Ga.
Pastor Rod Addison officiated and interment followed services at Bellevue Memorial Park.
Shoup, 70, of Grovetown, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005. She was born Aug. 9, 1935 in Earlsboro to John Mayo Byerly and Jane Mae (Stevens) Byerly.
She spent her entire adult life in the Marion and Hartford, Ind. Area. Shoup has worked for over 35 years at the Smith-Corona Manufacturing Co., in Marion, Ind.
Her granddaughter, Kristina Donnelly, preceded her in death in 1999.
Surviving are her children, Jay Shoup pf Valparaiso, Ind., Maggie Donnelly of Grovetown, Ga., Jackie Bean of Indianapolis, Ind. And Jerry Shoup of Marion, Ind.; siblings, Frank Byerly of Alabama, Linda Kay Hughes of Bristow, Mar Lou Thompson of Rogers, Ark., Paula Jean Lovell of Phoenix, Ariz. and Bonnie Sue Byerly of San Antonio, Texas; eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Jack Sibley
Funeral services for Jack L. Sibley were scheduled for 10 a.m. today at Candlewood Chapel.
Burial followed at Sunny Lane Cemetery under the direction of Ford Funeral Service.
Jack Sibley, 66, born in Portales, N.M. on May 27, 1939, died Friday, Nov. 18, 2005 in Midwest City.
He was retired from the United States Army after serving three tours of duty in Viet Nam.
Jack later retired from the Oklahoma City Housing Authority as Mod Coordinator in 2003. He was an avid OU fan and loved his roses in the back yard.
He is survived by his wife, Ina Rahe Sibley; two daughters, Joyce Ranae Goodman and husband Mike and Lori Lesser and husband Dwayne; five grandchildren, Scott, William, Jeremy Taylor and Jacqueline; four sisters, Towanda Young of Seminole, Billie Parks of Greenfield, Ind. Delorise Melton of York, S.C. and Linda Hughes of Perryton, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
His parents, Roy and Mary Sibley; son, Michael Joe Dame; sister, Naomi Oakes and four brothers-in-law preceded him in death.
Donald E. Simar
A memorial service is scheduled for former Seminole resident Donald E. Simar at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Santa Maria, Calif.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary and Crematory in California. Interment is to take place at a later date.
Simar, 53, died Jan. 29, 2005 at this residence in Orcutt, Calif. He was born in Santa Maria of the Stonewall family, who were early pioneer settlers of Central City, which later became Santa Maria.
He attended El Camino Junior High School and graduated from Santa Maria High school in 1970. For most of his adult life he has worked as an automotive upholsterer in California.
Simar resided in Seminole from 1988 – 1990 and his hobbies included restoring cars, and in early years, making model planes.
For many years he enjoyed restoring and riding his Harley Davidson with various motorcycle groups. When his mother was living he often enjoyed frequent travels with her to Las Vegas.
Surviving him is his son, Donald W. Dillon Simar of Arroyo Grande, Calif.; daughters, Melissa Marie Simar and Jamie Charlene Simar; former wife and mother of his children and best friend, Gina Simar Butler, all of Santa Maria, Calif.; brothers, James A. "Bud" Simar of Santa Maria, Calif. and Chris Simar of Caldwell, Idaho; sisters, Pam Thomson of Fairbanks, Alaska, Diana Simar Macias of Phoenix, Ariz., Ginger Osmus of Middleton, Idaho and Jodie Bullard of Caldwell, Idaho; brother-in-law and his wife Terry and Eloise Longest of Seminole; sister-in-law Wanda Conner of Seminole; numerous nieces and nephews.
