Funeral services for Konawa native Charles Spencer were scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Asher with Reverend Dwayne Johnson officiating.
Interment is set for Vamossa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home in Konawa.
Spencer died Saturday, April 9, 2005, at the age of 75.
He was born March 14, 1930, to Ollie Lee and Jewell Laura Lee Spencer in Konawa.
Spencer served two years on the Midwest City Police force before taking employment with Montgomery Ward. He retired from Wards after 25 years. In 1998 he retired again, this time from Hahn Truck Lines.
Spencer accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at the Billy Graham Crusade in Norman in 1956. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Asher, where he served as secretary of his Sunday school class.
Spencer was a handyman for his church and the Asher Senior Center.
His participation in the restoration of an antique church bell was part of his legacy to the congregation and community.
Spencer was preceded in death by his mother and father.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline Spencer of Asher; one son, Todd Elliott Spencer of Lexington; one sister, Marie Lewis of Midwest City; two brothers, D.L. Spencer of Bethany and D. Dewayne Spencer of Oklahoma City; and one grandson.
Casket bearers will be Wayne Winn, Bill O’dell, Dee Follis, Doyle Sexton, Deward Hudson and Bob Morris. Honorary bearers will be Bob Cossey, Jerry Graham, Jerry Milburn, Darl Fowler, Leon Culver, Jerry Johnson, Don Inman and Raymon Ranells.
Edith Mae Spencer
Funeral services for longtime Konawa resident Edith Mae Spencer are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Baptist church with Rev. Charley Henthorn to officiate.
Interment will follow services at Vista Cemetery under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home.
Spencer, 91, died Monday, July 4, 2005 at Sunset Estates Nursing Home in Maud. She was born Feb. 23, 1914 in Tyrola, Okla. to John and Ruby (Walker) Plasscheart.
In her youth she attended school in Byng and Konawa, graduating from Asher High school.
She married Hampton "Hamp" Spencer on Feb. 13, 1937 and was a homemaker. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Konawa.
Her parents, husband "Hamp" Spencer (Sept. 29, 1989) and one sister, Lena Roe (May 2, 2005) preceded her in death.
Surviving is son Ronald J. Spencer of Tulsa, daughter Julia Ann Prado of Calexico, Calif., seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Christena "Kookie" Spicer
Funeral services for St. Louis, Okla. resident Christena "Kookie" Hope (Morrel) Spicer are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Doyle Loveland to officiate.
Interment is to follow services at Oakgrove Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
Kookie, 77, passed away Friday, Dec. 2, 2005 at her home in St. Louis. She was born Aug. 14, 1928 in Macomb to Reece Vandover and Lillian G. (Adkins) Morrel.
She spent most of her life in Macomb, and Pottawatomie County and attended school in Macomb and Maud.
On Feb. 15, 1951 she married Jerone Spicer in Nicoma Park. She worked as a seamstress at Michael Casuals and as a sheet metal technician at Tinker Air Force Base.
Kookie was a member of the Church of Christ and enjoyed reading, collecting antique dishes and playing with her grandchildren.
Her parents, Reece and Lillian Morrel; one sister, Lillian Phram and three brothers, Tommy, Reece and Bill Morrel preceded her in death.
Surviving is her husband of 54 years, Jerone Spicer, Sr. of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jerone Jr. and Cindy Spicer of Macomb, Jeff and Connie Spicer of St. Louis and Toby and Brenda Spicer of St. Louis and three daughters and sons-in-law, Jimmie and Virgil Mangus of Yukon, Jan and Tom Harman of Willis and Tena and Boyd Houser of Tishomingo.
In addition, 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and cousins survive her.
Edith Evelyn Splawn
Funeral services for lifelong Maud-St. Louis area resident Edith Evelyn (Jordan) Splawn are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at the St. Marks United Methodist Church in Maud.
Services will be under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home of Maud.
Set to officiate are Splawn’s nephew Glenn Williams and Pastor Glenn Peck.
Burial will follow at the Cummings Cemetery in Maud.
Splawn died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at her home in St. Louis, at the age of 83.
She was born July 23, 1921, in St. Louis, to Fain Dexter Jordan and Althea (Patrick) Jordan.
On Nov. 19, 1941, she married L.E. "Newt" Splawn in Shawnee.
She was a homemaker, and along with her husband Newt and their son, she was active in the oil industry in the St. Louis area for many years.
Splawn was a member of the St. Marks United Methodist Church in Maud
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ray Jordan and Bill Jordan; one sister, Naomi Hampton; a great-grandson, Darryl Paul Splawn; and two nephews, Terry Jordan and Jim Jordan.
Splawn is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Paul E. and Phyllis Splawn, Prague; a brother and sister-in-law, Raymond Eston and Ann Jordan, Hugo; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorthy and Dale Williams, Maud; two grandchildren, Darryl Splawn, St. Louis, and Dennis Splawn, McAlester; and four great-grandchildren: Chris Splawn, Darryn Splawn, Derek Splawn, and Jessica Splawn.
Pallbearers are scheduled to be Chris Splawn, Darryn Splawn, Josh Williams, Bart Jackson, and Jordan Labouff.
Honorary bearers are David Jordan, Josh Jordan, Justine Jordan, Jason Jordan, Bill Jordan, Donnie Jordan, Tim Jordan, Paul Jordan, and Billy Jordan.
Visitation will be held Sunday, from noon till 7 p.m.
Ella Lou Starr
Graveside services for Okemah resident Ella Lou Starr are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at the Schoolton Cemetery with Bro. Charles Jones to officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Okemah.
Starr, 76, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005 at her home. She was born July 10, 1929 in Lincoln County to Willie and Bertha Lou Condict.
She was a resident of Okemah for most of her life and was a devoted homemaker.
Her parents, three brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Ron Starr of Mustang and Gene Starr of Okemah; two brothers, Ray Condict of Okemah and Wendell Condict of Moore; four sisters, Norma Barnes and Linda Sue Groves, both of Cromwell, Wilma Ruth Scott of Alabama and Rose Head of Moore; one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.
Larry Dean Stealey
Funeral services for former Seminole County resident Larry Dean Stealey are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Katy, Texas.
Rev. David Brown will be officiating and visitation will be held from 5 – 8 p.m. on Friday at Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel.
Larry, 59, of Katy, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005 at his home with his family by his side. He was born on Aug. 28, 1946 in Ada to Paul John Stealey and Donna Mae Harvey Stealey.
He attended school in Bowlegs and served in the National Guard during the Vietnam era.
On April 8, 1966 he married Patricia Harper in Seminole and they moved to the Katy area in 1976.
Larry was a distributor for the Houston Chronicle for the past 25 years and he was an avid coin collector and enjoyed playing the slot machines.
Larry loved his wife of 39 years, who was his grade school sweetheart, and cherished her as a soul mate.
He shared with Pat his great love for their three children, Lisa, Brian and Paula, as well as his entire family.
Larry’s first daughter, Lisa Lynette lives in Austin, Texas with her husband David Tetreault.
His only son, Brian Dean Stealey, also lives in Austin with his fiancée, Jessica Stokes.
Larry’s second daughter, Paula Jean, lives in Katy with her husband Jim Weaver. They are the proud parents of his nine grandchildren, Garrett, Jacob, Lauren, Ashley, Patty, Jolene, Jamie, Bridgette, McKenzie and one on the way.
He is survived by his parents, Paul John and Donna M. Stealey of Seminole; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John and Mary Harper of Norman, Jerry and Brenda Harper of Oklahoma City, Linda and Jim Thetford of Shawnee and Gayla and Randy Ritter of McLoud.
In addition, his nieces and nephews, Beverly, Steven, Amy Ray Stealey, Scott, Chris, Bo, Shawn, Shannon, April, Stephanie, Summer, Sheila, Tammy, Courtney, Jason, Emily, Lee, Nickolas and Nathan also survive him.
A special thanks is extended to Ray Rosa for all of his help and support.
His brother, Raymond Jerry Stealey, and his sister-in-law, Margaret Stealey; his mother-in-law, Ramona Harper Slape and fathers-in-law, Norman Eugene Harper and J.B. Slape all preceded him in death.
Clyde Stephens
Graveside services for longtime Seminole County resident Clyde Stephens are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Machpelah Cemetery in Nobletown.
The services will be under the direction of Myers Mortuary with Bishop Charley Gilbert of ERC Church of Christ, to officiate.
Stephens, 92, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005 at Holdenville General Hospital. He was born Nov. 2, 1912 in Hollis to Hazel and Mary Stephens.
He married Annie Mae Stephens and was a former member of Spring Creek Baptist Church.
His parents; two daughters, Alfreda Beatrice and Orlviva Veronica; five brothers, Hayes, Freeman, Altur, Claude and Floyd; three sisters, Mary, Bell and Pearl all preceded him in death.
Surviving him is his son Timothy J. Stephens of Oklahoma City; daughter Marvella G. Stephens of Wewoka; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Clem Stephenson
Graveside services for former Seminole resident, Clem Harrison Stephenson, were held today at 2:30 p.m. at Highland Cemetery in Okemah.
Services were under the direction of Freeman Harris Funeral Home of Tulsa.
Stephenson, 92, of Tulsa, died Friday, Dec. 16, 2005. He was born July 15, 1913 in Okemah to William Harrison and Martha Stephenson.
He graduated from high school at the age of 16 and passed the Oklahoma Bar at 20, and was recognized by the Bar for 60 years of practice.
Stephenson practiced law in Oklahoma and Alaska and was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.
He co-counseled with Melvin Belie, L.A. and San Francisco and Gerry Spence before the U.S. Supreme Court and published a book on the theory of the universe.
As a 32 degree Mason, he was commemorated for 60 years of membership and 60 years of practice by The Oklahoma Bar Association.
His wife, Marguerite Thomas Stephenson, and two brothers preceded him in death.
Surviving is his son, John H. Stephenson of Tulsa; two daughters, Mary Stephenson Leightner of Tulsa and Judy Houston of Las Cruces, N.M.; brother, Robert Stephenson of Santa Fe, N.M.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
