Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Calvin Coolidge Thompson are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Macedonia Baptist Church of Wewoka with Rev. B.G. Renfro, Parker’s Chapel officiating.
Thompson died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005 at Grace Living Center of Oklahoma City. He was born Nov. 20, 1921 to L.C. and Nellie Thompson in Kansas City, Kan.
He was the third of eight children and he had enlisted in the United States Army.
After his tour of duty he made his home in Chicago, Ill., where he met and married Velma Flowers.
Thompson became a chef, managing the kitchen staff and food preparation in some of the most prestigious hotels in Chicago.
He later moved to Wewoka and eventually to Wetumka, where he opened his own business.
Thompson also served as a councilman for the City of Wetumka and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Livingston #175, Wewoka and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
His wife, one son, Tommie, two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
Surviving is son, Calvin, Jr. of Oklahoma City; daughter, Patricia of Midwest City and twin sisters, Laurene and Flourine of California.
Richard Thornton
Graveside services for former Wewoka resident Richard W. Thornton were held at 11 a.m. today at Sunny Lane Cemetery, Del City.
Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Richard W. Thornton, 55, of Oklahoma City, died Nov. 24, 2005. He was born July 24, 1950 to Hamp W. and Pauline (Lewis) Thornton in Wewoka.
His mother Pauline Lewis and father Hamp W. Thornton preceded him in death.
Survivors include daughter, Pauline Thornton; one grandson; son, Kirk W. Thornton; sisters, Linda Allen, Janette Lee and Sandra Isaacs; brothers Kenneth Wallace and Leonard D. Wallace and grandmother Emma Foster
Benjamin Tiger
Funeral services for lifelong Seminole County resident Benjamin "Ben" Tiger are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel.
Rev. Sandy Harjo to officiate the service with Rev. Houston Tiger assisting.
Interment is to follow at the Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka and are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Tiger, 80, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005 in a Wewoka nursing home. He was born May 6, 1925 in Seminole County to Catcha Yahola and Zelda Joseph Yahola.
He attended Nuyaka Boarding School and worked for the Shawnee Milling Company as a laborer.
Tiger attended the Snake Creek Baptist Church.
His parents and brother, Lee Tiger, preceded him in death.
Surviving is son, Billy Tiger of Maud; sister, Cora Yahola of Wewoka; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Bryan Michael Tiger
Funeral services for Wewoka resident Bryan Michael Tiger are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Hilltop Presbyterian Church with Kelly Tiger and John Lively officiating.
Interment is set for Achena Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
A wake service is set for 7 p.m. Friday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.
Tiger died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was 23.
Tiger was born May 11, 1981, in Seminole to Sylverster "Chick" Tiger and Mary (Brisch) Tiger.
He attended Justice School and Tahlequah Job Corp.
On May 4, 2000, he married Gina (Velez) Tiger in Arkansas.
Tiger was a construction worker.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jessie and Mindy Tiger and Mike and Marie Brisch.
He is survived by his wife, Gina Tiger of the home; one son, Michael Tiger of Wewoka; two daughters, Jordan Vaughn of Arkansas and Noelle Tiger of Wewoka; two brothers, Christopher Tiger of Palm Desert, Calif. and Ryan Tiger of Arkansas; and one sister, Susan Tiger of Wewoka.
Casket bearers are set to be Scott Wood, Eric Coker, Nathan Abercrombie, Quam Wallace, Bob Stone and Mike Willis. Honorary bearers are Kenneth Harjo, Nolan Tiger, Albert Platta, Jim Hicks, William Harrison and Joel Luna.
Kelly Tiger Sr.
Funeral services for Holdenville resident Rev. Kelly Tiger Sr. are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Barnard Memorial United Methodist Church in Holdenville.
Elder Richard Harjo, Rev. Dr. Gene Wilson and Rev. Joe Wallace Bruner will be officiating.
Wake services are scheduled for Friday from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at the Hudson-Phillips Funeral Chapel.
Interment is to follow at the Tiger Family Cemetery in Holdenville under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.
Tiger, 68, died fighting fires and trying to save his property on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005. He was born in Seminole County on Aug. 2, 1937 as one of six children to Rev. Amos Tiger and Juliet (Wise) Tiger.
They moved to Pecan Grove in 1941 where he was raised. He attended school in Yeager where he was known as an avid athlete. Tiger graduated from Yeager High School in 1955.
He married his high school sweetheart, Norean "Beaver" Tiger on Aug. 2, 1957 at the Salt Creek United Methodist Church.
Tiger attended Tulsa Welding School and later went to work as a supervisor of maintenance for Unit Rig and Equipment Company.
He then worked for 25 years with Leland Rig Co. and then at K-Mart as a receiving clerk until his retirement in 1992. Following his retirement, they moved from Tulsa, their home of 35 years, to Holdenville.
Tiger became an ordained Elder in the Presbyterian church and later became a lay pastor in 2000 of the First Indian Presbyterian Church of Wewoka.
He was a former Band Chief of the Newcomer Band and he served on numerous committees of the Indian Nation Presbytery.
Tiger was an avid outdoorsman who liked to fish, hunt quail, pheasant and prairie chickens. He raised cattle and was a patriotic man who loved his grandchildren.
His parents; one brother, J. Lynn Tiger and three sisters, Winnie Mae Tiger, Misselda Moppin and Imogene Tiger preceded him in death.
Surviving is his wife of the home; two sons, Kelly Tiger Jr. of the home and Robert Tiger of Wakpala, S.D.; three daughters, Julia Tiger of Tulsa, Kim Tiger of Norman and Belinda Buzzard of Sapulpa; seven grandchildren; one brother, Arthur Castleberry of Holdenville and numerous adopted children and grandchildren.
Pallbearers for the services will be Allen Yargee, George Franks, Vernon Yarholar, Jimmy Taylor, Beaver Ward, Rex Haley, Greg Meadows, Dale Buzzard, Marcie Tiger and Roger Butler.
Honorary bearers are to be Noah Long, Fallen Buzzard, Shawn Harjo, Merle Berryhill. Tony Kaulity, Mervin Thurman, Rev. Joe Lowe Jr., Rev. Dave Long Jr., Rev. Dave Wilson, Houston Cusher, Willard Ringold, Legus Clark, Hurbert Harjo, Robert Tiger and Larry Spybuck.
Johnna Tigner
Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident Johnna Tigner are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at First Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. David McDougal and Rev. Jim Waller to officiate.
Interment is to follow services at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Tigner, 58, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005 at her residence. She was born Feb. 3, 1947 in Seminole to John and Opal (Eads) Hodgson.
She married Johnny Tigner on May 14, 1966 in Seminole and was the co-owner of Dipsticks Quick Stop in Seminole, was the owner of Boxes and Bows and worked at The Seminole Producer for many years.
Johnna was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church in Seminole.
Her parents; two brothers-in-law, David Tigner and Earl Hines, and one nephew, Carlton Hines all preceded her in death.
Surviving is her husband Johnny of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Tammy Tigner of Altus; two daughters and sons-in-law, Stacy and Nathan Raines of McLoud and Christy and Nick Baguio of Prattville, Ala.; eight grandchildren, Jessie and Shelby Raines, Cameron, Gabriel and Ty Baguio and Julian, Alexis and Joslyn Tigner.
In addition, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, J.D. and Ione Tigner; sister-in-law Carol Hines; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Patricia Porter, all of Seminole; sister-in-law Janie King of Okemah; and several nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends survive her.
Pallbearers for the service will be Don Taliaferro, Bob Harris, Darrell Myrick, Lynn Short, Gary Seyfert and Gayle Parsons.
Donald O. Tipton
Funeral services for Wewoka native Donald O. Tipton are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel, W.L. Sansing officiating.
Interment is set for Okmulgee Cemetery. Swearingen Funeral Home is handling all arrangements.
Donald died Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at Lake Village Nursing Center in Lewisville, Texas. He was 72.
Born June 26, 1932, in Wewoka to Oyln Tipton and Lillian (Martin) Tipton, he graduated from Seminole High School.
Donald acquired his bachelors degree in electrical engineering from Oklahoma State University in 1960.
On March 15, 1963, he married Bennie (Harrod) Tipton in Garland, Texas.
In February 2000, he retired after nine years as an electrical engineer with LTV in Garland, Texas and 29 years in insurance sales in Kaufman, Texas and Lewisville, Texas, respectively. He was very successful in two vastly different careers.
He was actively involved in his community. He enjoyed volunteer work and was a member of the Kaufman and Lewisville, Texas chambers of commerce. Donald was an active member of Lions Club and a Mason as well.
During the Korean War, he served four years in the Air Force.
Donald is survived by his wife, Bennie Tipton of the home, Lewisville, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Ken Obermeyer of Las Vegas, Nev.; two uncles, Paul Martin of Mesa, Ariz., and J.C. Tipton of Okmulgee; many cousins, all dear; and many dear friends.
