Services for longtime Seminole resident Ruby Winn are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will be at Rest Haven memorial Gardens in Seminole under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Winn was born in Antlers, Okla. to Samuel Jackson and Mary (Nabors) Gentry on May 18, 1916. She died on Saturday, June 11, 2005.
In 1926 the family moved to Seminole settling in the Carr City area where she attended school.
She is survived by her devoted family, husband Ben Winn; daughters Nadine Sneed of Seminole and Betty Osbin of Kenton; sons Bill Winn of Mineola, Texas and Clarence Winn and wife Alta of Paden; two sisters, Velma Crews of Glenpool and Bessie Kidwell of Napa, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her first husband, Carl Riddle; infant grandchild; two sons-in-law, Fred Osbin and Tommy Sneed; seven brothers and two sisters.
She was a member of Ideal Street Baptist Church. She loved her church and family. She loved Ben’s family also.
Ben and Ruby purchased a camper trailer near time before retirement. They enjoyed traveling to and camping at many Blue Grass festivals.
They even took their little buddy, Angela, with them some of the time. They also spent most summers at Number Nine Landing at Eufaula Lake fishing.
While Ben fished, Ruby cleaned the fish. She was very afraid of the water after nearly drowning as a young girl.
She will be greatly missed by her family who loved her very much.
Harriet Lee Wisdom
Funeral services for Wewoka resident Harriet Lee Wisdom have been set for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005, at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Wewoka.
Burial will follow at Johnson Cemetery.
Rev. Robert Kernal and Rev. Larry Harrison will officiate the services, under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
A wake service will be held at the family’s home at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The home is a half-mile north of SH 59 on NS 360 (west of Wewoka).
Wisdom died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, in a local nursing home, at the age of 65.
She was born May 31, 1940, in Wewoka, to Edward and Mabel (Wolf) Johnson.
Wisdom attended schools in Ong and New Lima, and worked for Big Yank Corporation as a machine operator and in System Engineering and Electrics.
She was a member of Hilltop Presbyterian Church on the Ocese Band of the Seminole Nation.
Wisdom was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Wisdom, sister Ruth Marshall, son Don Coker, and grandson Aaron Coker.
She is survived by two sons, Lucas Coker of Wewoka, and Chris Harjo of Kilgore, Texas; four daughters, Rachel Farani of Wewoka, Alvina Coker of Atwood, Madonna Williams of Seminole, and Samantha Scott of Wewoka; three step-daughters, Andrea Larney of Seminole, Deliah Pacheco of Tahlequah, and Natalie Wisdom of Tahlequah; one sister, Fannie King of Wewoka; one brother, Don Johnson of Albuquerque, N.M.; as well as 29 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, with another grandchild expected soon.
Leta (Carroll) Withrow
Leta (Carroll) Withrow departed this life in Norman on Feb. 26, 2005, at the age of 95 years and 9 months.
She was born at Yeager in Hughes County on May 24, 1909, to William Edward and Adelaide (Burton) Carroll. She lived her first years at Yeager and Lamar.
In 1925 she moved with her family to the oilfield boomtown of Cromwell in Seminole County, where her father owned and operated a barbershop.
There was no local school in Cromwell, and she attended high school at Hartford, Arkansas in 1925-26. She was a member of the first student body at the new Cromwell High School in 1926-1927.
In 1927 her family moved to Seminole where she graduated from high school in 1928 and lived for the next seventy years. While in high school at Seminole, Leta was student president of the "Rootin’ Rubes" Pep Club.
After graduation, she worked for two years as the Society Editor of the Seminole Producer newspaper.
She married Richard D. "Dick" Withrow on Jan. 25, 1931. They had three sons and a daughter: John R.; Phillip C.; Gerry C.; and Jane Marie.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1948, and her son Gerry in 1959.
After learning bookkeeping, she worked for Dr. C. S. Chambers and Drs. Wood and Davis at their clinic in Seminole.
During that time, she was active in the Business and Professional Women's organization, including charter membership in the Seminole club, the Past President's Club and held several statewide offices.
She retired from work in 1991 at the age of 82 when the clinic closed.
She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, and a member of the Amerada Oil Co. former employees club.
She was a resident of the Brookhaven Nursing Center in Norman at the time of her death.
Leta is survived by Jon R. and Catheryn of Norman; Phil C. and Patty Withrow of Oklahoma City; and Janie W. Davis of Norman; grandson Rick Withrow and wife Davonna of Seminole; six other grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ with Mark Streetman and Chris Stinnett officiating.
Interment to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Davis, James Withrow, Ricky Withrow, Phillip Montgomery, Jon Riley and Don Davis.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Seminole Public Library.
Joyce Muir Wolf
Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Joyce Muir Wolf are pending with Forest Lawn Memorial Park of Hollywood Hills, Calif.
Wolf, 64, died in Californian Saturday, May 21, 2005. She was born March 17, 1941 to Orville and Grace Muir.
She graduated from Wewoka High School in 1959 and attended the University of Oklahoma before moving to California, where she continued to reside.
While in high school, she was a twirler in the Wewoka High School band and played the flute.
She was Worthy Advisor of the Rainbow Girls and was chosen as FHA Sweetheart. Her accomplishments continues with being the winner of many drama competitions and was 1959 Junior Miss Oklahoma.
After moving to California she became an interior designer and worked in property management.
Surviving are her parents, Orville and Grace Muir of Wewoka; daughter Elizabeth Wolf; son Jason Wolf; one grandson and two sisters, Gloria Mundell of Colorado and Linda Ferguson of California.
Jack A. Wood, M.D.
Jack Augustus Wood, M.D., 80, of Fayetteville, Ark., died Sunday, at his home in Fayetteville.
He was born in Fountain Hill, Ark., on Dec. 12, 1924, to Dr. Jesse Thomas Wood and Mittie Deal Wood.
A 1942 graduate of Crossett High School, he entered the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.
He attended the University of Arkansas School of Medicine, graduating in 1947.
Dr. Wood interned at Hurley Hospital in Flint, Mich. There, he married Dorothy Jean Johnson in 1948.
He practiced family medicine with his brother Dr. Julian D. Wood in Seminole.
He served as a flight surgeon in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1955, stationed on Chi Chi Jima in the Pacific Bonin Islands and with the Second Marine Air Wing at Cherry Point, N.C.
In 1960, Dr. Wood left Seminole and received his general surgery training at The Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, La.
In 1964, former classmate Dr. Warren Murry invited Dr. Wood to join his surgical practice in Fayetteville, Ark. Their clinic is now known as Fayetteville Surgical Associates.
After 28 years of active surgical practice, Dr. Wood retired in 1992.
A member of the medical staff at Washington Regional Medical Center and Fayetteville City Hospital, he served appointments as Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery.
Dr. Wood cared for patients throughout northwest Arkansas as a consulting surgeon at hospitals in Siloam Springs, Springdale, and Bentonville, Ark.
Dr. Wood was a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Southwest Surgical Congress, and the Alton Ochsner Surgical Society.
Her served as president of the Washington County Medical Society and the Arkansas Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
Dr. Wood, along with Dr. Murry, served as medical advisors and advocates of the inception of advanced pre-hospital emergency care, what is now known as Central Emergency Medical Services.
Dr. Wood was a devoted member of the Central United Methodist Church for over 40 years. During this time, he served on the Administrative Board and also enjoyed over 20 years of service as an usher.
His faith and family formed the foundation of his life’s fulfillment.
Love for his friends and 45 years of care for his patients were the cornerstones of his life’s meaning.
Dr. Wood was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Jesse T. Wood, and a sister, Mrs. Fannie Lou Tatum.
He is survived by his loving wife Dottie, of the home; his son, Dr. Stephen Wood and wife Donna of Fayetteville; three daughters, Amy Wood and Ann Wood, both of Fayetteville, Ark., and Nancy Bates and husband Ron of Springfield, Mo.; his brother, Dr. Julian D. Wood of Seminole; three grandchildren, Jennifer Morgan of Seattle, Wash., and Jesse and Holly Bates of Springfield, Mo.; two nieces and one nephew.
Following a private family burial, a memorial service will be held at Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Tony Holifield officiating.
The family will receive friends after the service in Central’s Activity Center.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Moore’s Chapel in Fayetteville, Ark.

Neva ‘Peggy’ Wood
Funeral services for former longtime Seminole resident Neva "Peggy" Irene Wood are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Bro. Jim White officiating. Interment is to follow service at Maple Grove Cemetery.
Wood, 84, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005 in Park View Hospital in El Reno. She was born Dec. 31, 1920 in El Dorado, Kan. to Charles Franklin Dillon and Villa Marie (Bartholomew) Dillon.
She married Delmer Loyd Wood on Dec. 24, 1936 in Seminole. They were married 62 years and he preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 1999.
Wood was a homemaker and a member of the Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.
Surviving her are four sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald Loyd and Linda Wood of Mena, Ark., Darrell Wayne and Priscilla Wood of Abilene, Texas, Charles Delmer and Judy Wood of Hinton and Donald Eugene Wood of Oklahoma City; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, all whom she loved very dearly.
Pallbearers for the service will be Chris Anderson, David Wood, Jon Wood, Brian wood, Jason wood, Christian Wood, Chad Williamson and Jay Gonzales.
Nancy Woodard
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Nancy Fay Woodard, lovingly known as "Granny Fay", are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel.
Tom Harrison and David Harrison will be officiating at the services.
Interment is to follow services at New Salem Cemetery n Meeker under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Woodard, 79, died Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at Unity Health Center North in Shawnee. She was born in Agra on July 9, 1925 to Henry Alvin Britton and Beaulah Elizabeth (Deaton).
Granny Fay has been a Seminole resident for the past 13 years having moved here from Oklahoma City.
She was an office manager for Grider Discount Foods in Oklahoma City and retired in 1992 after 10 years of service. Granny Fay was of the Baptist faith and was a previous member of the Rebeckah Lodge.
Her parents; former husband, Henry Woodard; daughter Nancy Gallaway; granddaughter Amy Woodard; grandsons, Joseph and Phillip Woodard and one sister, Annabelle Bales all preceded her in death.
Surviving is her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Johnnie Roberts of Seminole; sons and daughters-in-law, Leonard and Louise Woodard of Choctaw, Glen and Falba Woodard of Norman; son-in-law Wesley Gallaway of Chandler; sisters and brothers-in-law, Leona and Woodrow Eikenbury of Colony, Elsie and Billy Norwood of Abilene, Texas, Jessie Mae and Marion Booth of El Reno, Bonnie and Billie Joe Cartwright of Abilene, Texas, Ruth and Junior Edwards of Shawnee and one brother Alvin and Gloria Britton of Oregon.
In addition, she has 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren also surviving.
Pallbearers for the service will be Robert Morphew, Curtis Roberts, Billy Joe Cordell, Terry Dickerson, Brad Cox and David Raper.
Acting as honorary bearers will be Craig Benham, Stacy Gingrich and Jason Westbrook.
