Funeral services for Wewoka resident Joyce Marie Bert are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday at First Baptist Church in Wewoka. Elder Bruce Polk will officiate.
Burial will follow at the Lima Cemetery in Lima, and are under the direction of Myers Mortuary of Wewoka.
Bert died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006 in Del City at the age of 72. She was born to James Hill and Seporia Jefferson in Lima on Nov. 28, 1933.
Bert was a member of the Greater Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Mo., where she served on the usher board.
Her membership lasted for 27 years before moving to Wewoka in 1991.
On Dec. 22, 1991 she married Rev. Earlis Bert and became a member of St. Stephens Baptist Church where she served as the First Lady.
She is also a member of the State Minister and Wives Association, and a member of the Eastern Star Order.
Bert has been a foster parent for 10 years.
While in Kansas City, Bert worked for Garbaur Air Force Base for 20 years as maintenance supervisor. She also worked for Honeywell of Kansas City for 15 years as a maintenance supervisor.
Her parents preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. Earlis Bert of the home; one son, Darrell Jefferson, Wewoka; two daughters, Lois Whittaker, Okmulgee, and Mary Island, Del City; six sisters, Jewell Welch, Alma Johnson, Palzetta Guess, Lydia Ervin, all of Kansas City, Gladys Hill, Del City, and Joan Faye Kendrick, Oklahoma City; three brothers, Billy Hill and Herman Hill, Wewoka, and Jimmy Hill, San Antonio, Texas; and six grandchildren.
Larry Bevan
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Larry Wayne Bevan were held today at 10 a.m. at Friends Freewill Baptist Church in Cromwell with Rev. Victor Underwood officiating.
Interment followed at Friends Church Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
Bevan, 58, died Friday, March 10, 2006 in Seminole. He was born in Okemah on Dec. 23, 1947 to James Olen and Emily M. (Mullinax) Bevan.
He married Neta Dianne Reissig on Aug. 12, 1969 in Belton, Texas and was of the Freewill Baptist faith.
Bevan was a sheet metal mechanic and worked for many years with Prague Air-Conditioning and Heat.
He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
His father; one sister and one grandson, Justin Wayne Bevan, preceded him in death.
Surviving is his wife of the home; three sons, John Wayne Bevan, Kenneth Leon Bevan and David Edward Bevan, all of Seminole; four daughters, Dora Marie Nadeau of Earlsboro, Angela Bevan and Emily Bevan, both of the home and Mary Bevan of Seminole; his mother, Emily Margaret Bevan of Seminole; three brothers, Paskel Bevan of Seminole and Sonny Bevan and Don Bevan, both of Whitesboro, Texas; two sisters, Charlise Rich of Seminole and Sharon Green of Sallisaw and nine grandchildren.
Cora Billie
Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Cora Mae Billie were held today at 2 p.m. in the Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel.
Rev. Jesse Wind, Rev. Mitchell Taylor and Rev. Sandy Harjo will be officiating.
Interment followed at Snake Creek Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.
Billie, 77 died Thursday, June 23, 2006 in Tulsa. She was born April 12, 1929 in Konawa to William and Nora (Cosar) McCulley.
She attended school at Vamoosa and was a member of Hickory Ground #1 Church in Henryetta.
She married Joe Billie and they made their home in Wewoka.
Her parents; husband; brother, Frank McCulley; sister, Mary J. McCulley and her son, Jackie Lee Beaver preceded her in death.
Survivors include six sons, Johnny Sands of Oklahoma City, William Billie of Wewoka, Dusty J. Billie, Sr., Jody Billie, Joe Billie, Jr. and Curtis Ray Billie, all of Tulsa; four daughters, Betty Downing and Rosanne Swartz, both of Tulsa, Martha Wind of Cromwell and Bernice Cook of Oklahoma City; one stepdaughter, Nellie Starr of Wewoka; one stepson, John Billie of Cushing; 30 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers for the services were Rick Hall, Raymond Hall, Andrew Coody, Jr., Billy Coon, Jerome Harjo, Tim Coon and Anthony Coody.
Joe Bishop
There are no services at this time planned for Wewoka resident, Joe Berry Bishop.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home of Wewoka.
Bishop, 89, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2006. He was born Jan. 15, 1917 in Lindsey, Okla. to Joseph and Maggie Bishop. He attended Spencerville Schools.
His parents; son, Gene Bishop; daughter, Ella Mae Bishop; brothers, Wesley Bishop, Jackie Bishop, Robert Bishop, Edward Bishop, Wilford Upshaw, John Upshaw, Claude Upshaw and sisters, Mammie Jo Phillips and Vessie Deeds, preceded him in death.
Surviving is his son, Joe Cliffton Bishop of Southerland, Ore.; daughter, Georgia Mae Thornburgh of Swink, Okla.; one brother, Red Bishop of Wewoka; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Interment will follow at Little Cemetery, 8 miles north of Seminole. Viewing services will be from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday and until service time on Thursday.

Brenda June (Ashby) Black, 58 year old Oklahoma City resident passed from this life on July 23, 2006 in Oklahoma City.
She was born on April 20, 1948 in Seminole, Oklahoma to parents Roy Lee Ashby and Bernice E. (O’Dell) Ashby.
Brenda graduated from high school in Carmi, Ill. in 1966 and continued to earn her Bachelors degree at Tulsa University, then her Master’s degree from Central State University in Edmond (now called University of Central Oklahoma).
She married Charles Thomas "Chuck" Black on June 3, 1969 in Enid, Okla.
Black retired from teaching school at Schwartz Elementary School in the Mid Del School District, Oklahoma City in 1998.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Charles "Chuck" Black of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Lorene Roos Black of Ada; one grandchild that is expected in December; her mother, Bernice (O’Dell) Ashby of Bowlegs and one brother and sister-in-law, Mickey and Mary Ashby of Bowlegs.
She is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Her father, Roy Ashby who died in 1992, and her mother and father-in-law, Shirley and Olive Black, preceded Black in death.

Maleese M. Black
Funeral services for native of Little, Maleese M. Black, 92, were undisclosed at time of press.
Black died at her home in Sedona, Ariz. on Saturday, March 18, 2006. She was born Sept. 29, 1913, in Little, as one of four children to Dr. and Mrs. William Rainey Black.
She was a professor and head of the theater department at Pepperdine University until she retired to Sedona, Ariz. with her friend Jane Welton.
Black resided in Sedona for more than 36 years before she died.
In the early 1980’s, Black became a member of AZ Native Plant Society, out of recognition of using indigenous plants for conservation, restoration, and general landscaping.
She translated that interest into organizing workshops sponsored by Keep Sedona Beautiful for newcomers to the Sedona area.
Black is survived by a sister, Betty Woodruff.
Richard Black
Funeral services for Asher resident Richard "Rick" LaDon Black are set for 2 p.m. Monday, March 27, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.
The service will be held at First Baptist Church in Asher, with the Rev. Dewayne Johnson and Doc Perry officiating.
Burial is set to follow at Vista Cemetery.
Black died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, near Maud.
He was born on April 28, 1970, in Purcell, to Donald Ray Black and Marilyn Kay (McBroom) Black.
Black was an oilfield worker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Asher.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother Leona Williams and his uncle Terry McBroom.
Black is survived by his parents, of Asher; two sons, Timothy Wayne Black, of Asher, and Austin Black, of Davis; one daughter, Cassandra Renea Black, Asher; a brother, Tracy Joe Black, Asher; a sister, Amber Lee Black, Asher; grandparents, Isaacs McBroom, of Davis, and James and June Black of Afton; niece and nephew Colby and Shelby Black, of Rosedale, and nephew Dayton Black, of Asher; special friend Shelly Brown, Asher; and a host of other family members and friends.
Pallbearers for the ceremony are listed as: Ronny O’Dell, Wes Wilson, Dewayne Dixson, James Cole, David Starks, Evan Murray, Errol Murray, and Benny Hudson.
Rick will be missed by many friends and a loving family.
