Funeral services for Ada resident Eva Earline Horsley Brown are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. C.L. Thomas, officiating.
Interment is to follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Wewoka, under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Brown passed away Sunday, May 7, 2006 at her home. She was born June 10, 1938 to Lester Brown and Anna Bell (Martin) Brown, she attended school in Guthrie and Central State University in Edmond.
Later she attended Vo-tech majoring in computer science. She was a member of Hilltop Freewill Baptist Church.
Eva and Foster Brown married Jan. 18, 1995 in Las Vegas, Nev. and they owned and operated Sears Franchisee in Wewoka and Ada, and currently owned and operated Main Street Appliances in Ada.
Her father Lester Brown, brother, Carl Brown and sister, Barbara Cox preceded her in death.
Survivors include her mother, Anna Bell Brown of Guthrie; husband, Foster Brown, of daughters, Jamie Jan Wind, Tulsa, Leah Erin Cummings and husband Michael of Lake Como, Fla., Eva Lorelle Zeier and husband Patrick of Wewoka; brother, Dale Brown and wife Louise of Carnegie; brother-in-law, Robert Cox, of Enid; sister-in-law, Terri Brown of Arkansas and 13 grandchildren, Terea, Angie, Jacob, Raquel, Mikki, Carina, Mikey, Kira, Emily, Mary, Hanna, Josie, and Maggie and 16 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers for the services will be J.R. Scott, Don Shrum, Charles Chance, Ed Jolley, and Pat Zeier.
Mary Brown
Funeral services for former Seminole resident Mary Etta (Dunagan) Brown were held today at 11 a.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Doyle Pryor officiating.
Interment followed at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Brown, 93-year-old Sapulpa resident, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2006 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She was born July 16, 1913 in Baldhill, Okla. to Thomas Lowery and Mary Edin (Mallory) Dunagan.
On Nov. 2, 1932 she married Carl Evan Brown in Okmulgee. They couple then moved to Seminole in 1933.
Brown was a homemaker who was a member of the Bowlegs First Baptist Church and was also active with the Eastern Star, Rebecca's and the L.A.P.M. "Lady’s Auxiliary Patriarch Militant" organizations.
Her parents; her husband, Carl Evan Brown who died on Aug. 29, 1976 and by one sister, Maxine Culver preceded her in death.
Surviving are sons, Dale Brown of Slidell, La. and Carl Lee & Brown of Sapulpa; two brother, Willard Dunagan of Morris, Okla. and George Dunagan of Arcola, Ill.; three sisters, Eva Anderson of Arcola, Ill., Irene Anson of Seminole and Naomi Rothrock of Arcola, Ill.; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Nancy Brownfield
Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Nancy L. Brownfield will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, at the East Main Church of Christ with Alan Eck officiating.
Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Hoffman Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.
Nancy passed away Sunday, May 28, 2006, at her sisters home in Wewoka, at the age of 65. She was born on Dec. 16, 1940 to Frank and Bonnie (Ross) James in Henryetta.
She grew up in Henryetta and attended school at Pharaoh where she graduated.
Nancy traveled with the area Basketball Club during which she married Billy Joe Brownfield. She remained with the Basketball Club, and was rated 2nd in the state and won numerous awards and trophies.
She was a longtime resident of Henryetta and Okemah, but has lived in New York, Checotah, Idabel, Russellville, Arkansas, Castle, and Wewoka.
She worked at several different jobs in her life, and enjoyed being outdoors. She enjoyed fishing, picking berries and making jelly.
Her parents, her husband Billy Joe Brownfield, one brother Douglas James, and one sister Dorothy Dean Fish preceded her in death.
She is survived by two daughters, Rita Reeves and husband Dale of Okemah and Shelly Ponder and husband James of Luther; grandchildren, Crystal, Troy, Jennifer, Michael, and Josh and great-grandchildren, Destin, Randilyn, Emily, Jalynn, and Racheal.
Also surviving are five brothers, Charlie James of Amarillo, Texas, Bobby James of Dumas, Texas, Don James of Ashdown, Ark., Johnny James of Weeletka, and Jimmy James of Graham, Texas; four sisters, Helen Clifton of Wagoner, Joann O’Brian of Morivia, N.Y., Virginia Roberts of Weeletka, and Veta Kay Maxwell of Enid and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Glen Bruner
Funeral services for Wewoka native and former resident Glen Alan Bruner are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Wewoka.
Rev. L.R. Drinkwater of Redeemed Missionary Baptist Church of Oklahoma City will officiate.
Interment is to follow at Westwood Cemetery under the direction of Myers Mortuary, Wewoka.
Bruner, 42, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006 in Oklahoma City. He was born July 21, 1964 in Wewoka to Nahum Ed Oscar Bruner and Roberta (Chatmon) Bruner.
He attended Wewoka schools before moving to Oklahoma City. He later attended Okmulgee Tech where he received an associate’s degree in diesel mechanics.
Bruner also attended Platt College where he received an associate’s degree in law enforcement.
He was employed by Swift Trucking and J.B. Hunt Trucking, as an over the road driver. Bruner also worked as a security guard for a Mexican restaurant in Oklahoma City.
Bruner served with the 10th Personnel Command during Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm and Farewell. He also served during the Southwest Asia Campaign and with the United States Army Reserve.
His father, one sister, Angelia, and three brothers, Oscar, Clinton Irving and Nahum Jr. preceded him n death.
Surviving is his mother, Roberta Bruner of Oklahoma City; three sons, Glen Bruner Jr., Quinton Bruner and Cameron Atkins Bruner, all of Oklahoma City; three daughters, Olivia Nelson and Neshia Bruner, both of Oklahoma City and Keisha Davis of Indiana; four sisters, Lanetta Bruner Stevenson, Lavonne Bruner and Lovell Chilcote, all of Oklahoma City and Charlene Nichols of Wewoka; six brothers, Charles Bruner, Curtis Bruner, Hiawatha Bruner and Stephen Bruner, all of Oklahoma City, John Michael Bruner of Wewoka and Richard Bruner of Norman and three grandchildren.
Jimmy Bryant
Funeral services for Wewoka resident Jimmy Ray Bryant were held today at 2 p.m. at Little Cemetery Chapel with Dan Factor officiating.
Services were under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Bryant, 53, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006 at the Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born Nov. 13, 1952 to Mitchell Monroe and Mildred Bryant.
He spent most of his life in Seminole County and he attended Wewoka Schools.
Bryant owned and operated Bryant Dump Truck Service and restored antique cars in his spare time. He was also a coon hunter.
His father and one son, Mitchell Ray, preceded him in death.
Surviving is his companion and Paula Gamble of Wewoka; two sons, Hayden Bryant and Tony Bryant; one sister, Adry Gastaway of Ada; five brothers, Lester and Kenneth Bryant of Wewoka, Carl Bryant of Seminole, Rodger Bryant of Eufaula and Tommy Bryant of Norman and three grandchildren.
Casket bearers for the services were Ryan Crowson, Richard Huls, Randy Leader, Raymond Leader, James Leader and Shane Smith.
Honorary bearers were Jack Williams, Don Lancaster and George Porter.
Tommy Bryant
Funeral services for former Seminole resident Tommy Bryant are scheduled for 1 p.m., Monday, March 6, 2006, at St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church in Norman with Rev. Dianne Peters officiating.
Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Norman. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
Bryant, 54, of Norman, died Thursday, March 2, 2006, in Norman. He was born in Wewoka on Sept. 6, 1951 to Mitchell and Mildred Bryant.
He was a 1970 graduate of Wewoka High School and earned a bachelor’s degree of business administration, a master’s degree and a bachelor’s degree of science from the University of Central Oklahoma.
He married Beverly Gay Morgan on Aug. 17, 1974 in Wewoka
Bryant began his career at Baptist Medical Center serving as the Clinical Laboratory Services coordinator, personal assistant, director of employee relations and senior marketing representative from 1976 – 1983.
He established and owned Tom Bryant and Company in Oklahoma City from 1983 – 1990. In January 1990 he moved to Norman and was employed by Norman Regional Hospital as director of Human Resources, followed by vice president of operations, until 2002.
In 2002 he became the executive director of operations for Norman Radiology Services and for the past year he has been the executive director of the Purcell branch of Vista Care Hospice.
Bryant served as president of the Chapter 7 Oklahoma Health Care Human Resources Association from 1998 – 200 and participated in Lt. Gov. Mary Fallin’s Commission for Worker’s Compensation from 1996 – 1998.
In addition, he served on the Membership Committee for the American Society of Personnel Administration.
His father and one brother, Jimmy Bryant preceded him in death.
Surviving is his wife Beverly of the Norman home; one daughter, Morgan Lee Bryant of Norman; mother, Mildred Bryant of Wewoka; four brothers, Lester Bryant, Kenneth Bryant and Carl Bryant, all of Wewoka and Roger Bryant of Eufaula and one sister, Audrey Gasaway of Ada.
Betty Burgess
Funeral services for longtime Konawa-area resident Betty Jean Burgess are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 26, 2006, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.
Rev. Dorsey Nero and Rev. Kellos Walker are set to officiate the services, held at Swearingen Funeral Chapel in Konawa.
Interment will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery.
Wake services will be held tonight at 6 p.m. at Konawa’s Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.
Burgess went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 23, 2006, in Ada, at the age of 70.
She was born Nov. 5, 1935, in Concho, to Hixton Burgess and Irene Mary (Coker) Burgess.
Burgess was a loving homemaker and caregiver for her family.
She resided most of her life on the Coker place east of Konawa.
She was a member of High Springs Indian Baptist Church in Konawa and also was a member of the Rebecca Lodge.
Burgess was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents: Rev. Dan Coker and his wife Mamie Day Coker, and John Burgess and his wife Jeanetta Tiger Burgess; one sister, Mary Wiley; two brothers, Robert "Peck" Armstrong and Danny "Chebon" Armstrong; several aunts and uncles and nieces and nephews.
She is survived by three sisters, Katie Breeden of Ada, Nettie Moreland and Edna O’Dell of Asher; two brothers, Frank Armstrong and Bill Armstrong of Konawa; several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be nieces and nephews.
Sandra Burkhart
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Sandra Lynne Burkhart are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Doyle Long officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Burkhart age 50 died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006 at Seminole Medical Center. She was born March 9, 1955 in Indianapolis, Ind. to Thomas Junior Key and Mary Kathryn (Eden) Key.
On Dec. 5, 1993 she married Micheal L. Burkhart in Seminole. She has been a Seminole resident for 13 years having moved from California.
She was a truck driver for Southern California Transport and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Surviving is her husband of the home; daughter, Candy Barksdale of Seminole; extended mother, Melvin Burkhart of Seminole; two brothers, Timothy Key of California and Tommy Key of Indiana and two sisters, Terry Contreras and Cynthia Key, both of California.
