Funeral services for Former Seminole County resident George Craton are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church of Leonard, Texas. Rev. Willie Johnson and Charles Wrenn will be officiating.
Burial and a graveside service will follow at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Ryan Cemetery in Ryan, Okla. under the direction of Taylor Funeral Home in Leonard.
George Craton, age 73 of Leonard, Texas, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2006 at the Red River Regional Hospital in Bonham, Texas. He was born Feb. 11, 1933 in Healdton, Okla. as the son of Homer and Mildred Craton.
On Nov. 15, 1986 he married Jeannie Leggett in Bowlegs and was a Chemical Engineer. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Leonard.
He served in the United States Army.
Surviving is his wife, Jeannie Craton of Leonard; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Susan Craton of Bella Vista, Ark. and Steve and Micki Craton of Seminole; sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Joe Maziarz of Wimberly, Texas; sister-in-law, Patsy Craton of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Tyler and Mikayla Craton; and several nieces and nephews.
Helen Cravens
Graveside services for former Wewoka resident Helen Isabelle Cravens are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Michael Vanlandingham officiating.
Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Cravens passed away Monday, Aug. 14, 2006 in Upland, Calif. at the age of 93 years.
She was born in Morris, Okla. and worked for General Dynamic Aircraft in the soldering department.
On Oct. 21, 1935 she married Walter Cravens and he preceded her in death in 1991.
Survivors include daughters, Mildred Paar and husband Fred of Hudson, Fla. and Betty Dunkel of Lansing, Mich.; sons, Frank Cravens and wife Kathy and John Cravens and wife Donna, all of Upland, Calif.; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Larry T. Crawford
Funeral services for Rev. Larry T. Crawford are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, at the First Baptist Church of Seminole. Bishop Bobby L. Williams and Pastor Richard Gains will officiate the service.
Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole with military honors.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
Rev. Larry T. Crawford, Sr., 55-year-old longtime Seminole resident and minister passed from this life Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at his home in Seminole. He was born Feb. 2, 1951 in Seminole to parents, Jesse Crawford and Charleszetta M. (Woodfork) Crawford.
Larry graduated from Seminole High School in 1969 where he was an avid basketball player who made "Five Star Conference" player of the year in 1969.
He received his Associates degree from Oscar Rose in Midwest City, and a Bachelors degree in business administration at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.
Larry continued on to join the United States Air Force and served in Vietnam earning the rank of Master Sergeant in the 507 SP Reserve Unit.
On June 8, 1974 in Oklahoma City Larry married Jeraldine L. Shaw. He returned to Seminole 22 years ago from Oklahoma City to become the pastor of Galilee Baptist Church.
He also still holds his membership at the Community Baptist Church in Norman.
Rev. Crawford along with his wife, Sister Jeraldine Crawford, recently relocated and still pastored the church, now located at 338 West Russell Street in Seminole, which now goes by "Galilee Baptist Temple of Praise and Deliverance".
Larry was soon to retire from Tinker Air Force Base where he has worked as a machinist for many years.
His grandparents, Jesse and Frances Woodfork, his biological grandmother, Estela Parker and his uncle Jesse Woodfork, Jr. preceded him in death.
Rev. Crawford leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Sister Jeraldine L. Crawford of the home; parents, Jesse and Charleszetta Crawford of Oklahoma City; three sons, Larry Crawford, Jr., Cornelius Crawford and his wife Renea’ and Timothy Tyree Crawford, all of Seminole; two daughters, Travetta Williams of Seminole and LaDonna K. Crawford-Bassey of Oklahoma City.
In addition, Rev. Crawford leaves behind one brother and sister-in-law, Minister Earl Michael Crawford and his wife Geraldina of Oklahoma City; 10 grandchildren, Shaon Williams, Ashanta Crawford, Steven Proctor, Keerry Crawford, Larry Crawford III, Aaliyha Crawford, Martess Williams, Shuniece Crawford, Atlanta Crawford and Trevon Williams and one great-granddaughter, Hailey Colvin.
Casket bearers will be: Pastor C.L. Prevost, Pastor Famous Cochran, Pastor Clive Cochran, Pastor Willie Guient, Pastor Delbert Love, Pastor Michael Robertson and Minister Nathan Williams, Pastor William Ramson, and Pastor Larry Payne.
Honorary bearers will be: Pastor B.G. Renfro, Pastor Emmitt Elbert, Minister Kirk Garfield, Deacon Theodore Rivers, Roy Winrow, Deacon Bobby Woodmore, Minister Larry Smith and Minister Gilbert Reese.
Flower bearers for the services will be pastors and minister’s wives.
Fay L. Crosby
Funeral services for Earlsboro resident Fay L. (Hughes) Crosby were held today at 2 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Dwayne Dennis officiating.
Interment followed at little Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
Crosby, 71 passed away Friday, Feb. 3, 2006 in Shawnee. She was born in Ray City, Okla. Nov. 14, 1934 to Roy Jackson and Ruby Nora (Pollard) Hughes.
She has lived most of her life in Pottawatomie County (Ray City, Maud, Shawnee and many years in Earlsboro). Fay was a graduate of Maud High School.
On Aug. 29, 1958 she married Joe M. Crosby at the Church of Christ in Shawnee. He preceded her n death on Sept. 4, 1998.
She was a homemaker as well as a worker at Tinker Air Force Base, the Sylvania Electric Plant, the United Methodist Day Care in Seminole and as an LPN at Mission Hill.
Fay was a member of the Earlsboro Booster Club, the Pott. County Genealogy Club, Earlsboro Clown Troop and was a 4-H Club Leader in Earlsboro.
Her husband; a son, Joey Crosby in 1972; her parents and two brothers, Joe and ray Hughes preceded her in death.
Surviving is her sister, Nora Cole of Drumright; brother, Homer Hughes of Shreveport, La.; four nephews, Joe Hughes and Jerry Hughes, both of Houston, Texas, Roy Cole of Oklahoma City and John Hughes of Shreveport, La.; two nieces, Sharon Davenport of Houston, Texas and Tanja Kennedy of Maine; special friends, Don and Karen Meshew and Joe and Amber Curtis, all of Shawnee and many friends and extended family.
LaVenia Cross
Funeral services for former Wewoka resident LaVenia Estel Cross are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Lydel Bowin officiating.
Interment is to follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Cross 76, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006 in Oklahoma City. She was born Nov. 1, 1929in Sasakwa to Albert and Lucille (Newman) Conger.
On Sept. 4, 1949 she married Norman Cross in Oklahoma City. She was a member of the Church of Christ and at the time of her death she was making her home in Yukon.
Her parents, husband and sister, Hazel Conger preceded her in death.
Surviving is her son Mike Cross of El Reno; three daughters, Gail Richmond of Yukon, Beverly Bowen of Seiling and Vickie Fallis of Long Dale, Okla. and 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers for the services will be Ronnie Sexton, Johnnie Sexton, Robert Evans, Brian Cross, Steve Cross and Travis Richmond.
Alfred Frank Curb
Funeral service for longtime Seminole resident Alfred Frank Curb will be held, Monday, Jan. 23, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole.
Interment with military honors provided by the Seminole Nation Honor Guard and the United States Marines Military Honors Team, at 2 p.m. at Resthaven Memory Gardens, 500 SW 104th Street in Oklahoma City.
Officiating will be Forrest Weast, Nick Hamilton, Cecil Spoonemore and Herschel Davis.
Alfred Frank Curb, 80 year old, longtime Seminole resident went to be with his Lord on Jan. 19, 2006 at his home in Seminole. He was born in Hollis, Oklahoma on Oct. 8, 1925.
Alfred made his profession of faith in Jesus at the age of eight. His family had a strong Baptist heritage with two of his uncles preaching for over 100 years of combined service.
During Curb’s senior year at Luther High School in 1944, he entered the United States Marines. He received his diploma in 1946 after his World War II service.
He attended Oklahoma State University for two years and Spartan School of Aeronautics for one year.
During World War II in 1944, Curb was assigned to the 1st Marine Division, 11th Regiment, 2nd Battalion, D Battery. He will be remembered for his action at Okinawa. This battle lasted for 82 days beginning on April 1, 1945.
After the surrender of Japan, he served in China during the occupation. Curb received his honorable discharge with the rank of Corporal on May 6, 1946. After the service, he was a V.F.W. member for several years.
Al married Betty Jo (McClure) Curb on May 25, 1951 in Midwest City, Okla. Together they have lived in Seminole for the past 41 years moving there from Del City, Okla.
In 1976, Curb retired as a Property Disposal Specialist (Inspector) from Tinker Air Force Base after 30 years of civil service.
Al was a Strothers community Scoutmaster for both Boy and Cub Scouts.
Curb was ordained as a deacon at Twin Oak Baptist Church in Seminole, on July 18, 1965. He taught Sunday school classes. He served as the Church treasurer for many years. The Curbs also held church fellowships and prayer meetings in their home.
Al was involved with the South Canadian Baptist Association Brotherhood work and served as a driver and sponsor for several Falls Creek Baptist Assemblies near Davis, Okla.
Curb was active in the Strothers Athletic Booster Club and in later years supported Varnum basketball (except when playing Strother). Al and Betty Jo Curb were honored by having their names placed on the Strother "Hall of Fame" plaque.
The Curbs invited varsity basketball teams, coaches and cheerleaders to several annual New Year’s Eve parties.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, family genealogy
and loved to take pictures and videos. Curb contributed to several historical museums in Lincoln, Love and Oklahoma Counties. In addition to supporting Twin Oak Baptist Church, he also supported mission work.
Curb hoped, upon finding out about his terminal cancer last September, to live long enough to celebrate his 80th birthday. He was pleased that it was attended by 87 special people.
Mr. Curb is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Jo Curb of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Russell L. and Jeanette Curb of Elk City and Ronald F. and Lisa Curb of Newcastle; three sisters, Aileen Rosell of Ogden, Utah, Nina Lascurain of Lubbock, Texas and Reba Cotton of Moore; three grandchildren, Tiffany Inman of Seminole, Nicholas Curb of Elk City, and Tara Curb of Newcastle and one great-granddaughter, Madisyn Inman of Seminole.
Preceding him in death were his parents, P.W. "Pink" and Editha Curb; five brothers, Floyd, Aaron, Joe, Ersa and Earl Curb and three sisters, Beata Curb, Birdie Lou Dickerson and Elissa Reifsteck.
Casket Bearers and honorary casket bearers will be; (nephews, grand-nephews, close friends and men of Twin Oak Baptist Church), Forrest Dickerson, Tom Curb, Phillip Curb, Doug Curb, Dale Bell, Don Bell, Dan Carpenter, Robert Shelby, Larry McClure, Gary Curb, Fred Talley, Larry Cotton, Tommie Talley, Perry Cotton, Vic Underwood, Gary Montgomery, Jim Davis, Herschel Davis, Jim Barnes, Junior Evans, John Lovelady, Tommie Rammage, Larry Roper, Cecil Spoonemore, Steven Quinalty, Joe North, Wendell Payne and Eddie Carter and deacons, Steven Quinalty, Junior Evans, John Lovelady, Tommie Rammage and Larry Roper.
The casket will be open until service time and will not be opened after. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Terry Dallas
A private cremation service has been scheduled for Seminole resident Terry Jay Dallas.
Dallas, 42, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006 at his home in Seminole. He was born Dec. 22, 1963 in Houston, Texas to parents Clarence William Dallas and Patricia Marie (Hill) Dallas.
He was a custodian for Coates Metal Works in Seminole and was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church in Hillsboro, Mo.
His parents, one sister, Tina Dallas, one brother, Shawn Dallas and one nephew, Jon Woodruff preceded him n death.
Survivors include four brothers, Patrick Dallas of Seminole, Tim Dallas of Perrysville, Mo., Larry Backer of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. and Clarence Dallas of Festus, Mo. and two sisters, Penny Woodruff of Seminole and Connie Page of Alta Loma, Calif.
Phyllis Darby
A Private Family Service will be held for longtime Shawnee resident, Phyllis Louise Darby.
Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Phyllis passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2006 in Shawnee at the age of 78. She was born on July 4, 1927 to Amos Charles and Nora (Ozbirn) Bruner.
Phyllis was affiliated with the Methodist Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be missed very much by family and friends.
Her parents; one daughter, Susan R. Richmond and brothers, Victor Duncan and Robert Duncan preceded her in death.
She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and David Sober of Oklahoma City, Jimmie and Jim Bowen of Chandler, Robbie and Andy Frye of Pryor, and Della and Quinn Sellers of Earlsboro.
Phyllis is also survived by ten grandchildren, Craig, Tracy, Philip, Christie, Justin, Shawn, Julie, Sheila, Jenny and Samantha and seventeen great grandchildren.
