Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Velma Lee (Whelchel) Howell are scheduled for 2 p.m., Monday, at the Church of Christ at Little with Rusty Dawson officiating.
Interment will follow at Pontotoc Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Velma passed away Thursday, March 2, 2006 at the age of 94. She was born on Feb. 26, 1912 in Ada, Okla. to Joseph Carl and James Pearl (Shelton) Whelchel.
On Aug. 20, 1940 Velma married Thurman Edward Howell in Ada, he preceded her in on Feb. 19, 2004.
She began her 33 years of teaching at Pontotoc and Coatsworth where she retired after 25 years at Roff.
Three daughters and a son-in-law, Thurma Nell Howell of Seminole, Carol Fay Howell of Seminole and Shirley and Larry Crawford of Edmond and one brother Herbert Whelchel of Ada, survive her.
She is also survived by four grandchildren, Robert Crawford of Yukon, Ron Crawford of Edmond, Blake Crawford of Edmond and Shoba Lindsey of Tecumseh and seven great grandchildren.
Her parents, husband, three brothers and one sister precede her in death.
Clarine Boland Hubbard
Graveside services for Sasakwa native Clarine Boland Hubbard are set for 1 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole.
Rev. Vernon Thompson, of Paris, Texas, is set to officiate, while the services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
Hubbard was born Feb. 2, 1915, in Sasakwa, to Leland Stanford Boland and Amanda Jane (Talley) Boland.
Hubbard died Thursday, March 9, in Paris, Texas, after a brief illness. She was 91 years old.
She married Cewin "Cap" Milton Hubbard on Feb. 23, 1931, in Ft. Smith, Ark.
She was a resident of Seminole for over 75 years, and worked as a nurse’s aid at Pioneer Nursing Home for many years. Hubbard continued to care for the aged and sick after leaving the nursing home.
In June 2005, she moved to Paris, Texas, to live and be cared for by her sister and family.
Hubbard was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Marshall Boland, Woodrow Boland, J.W. Boland, and Leland Stanford Boland Jr.; and one sister, Mildred Apple.
She is survived by her sister, Sarah Vonclie Thompson of Paris, Texas; her brother, Billy Joe Boland of Washington state; and several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Jack Hudson
Graveside services for lifelong Konawa resident Jack Hudson are set for 1 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2006, at Vamoosa Cemetery.
Frank Brewer is set to officiate the service, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.
Hudson died Thursday, July 13, at his residence in Konawa, at the age of 77.
He was born April 24, 1929, in Konawa, to Clarence Hudson and Flossie G. (Morrow) Potter.
Hudson married Maurine Logan on Feb. 9, 1950, in Snomac.
He worked as a yard foreman for United Builders in Shawnee for over 25 years.
Hudson was a member of the Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Claude Hudson.
Hudson is survived by his wife, Maurine Hudson, of the home; two sons, Rick Hudson, of Konawa, and Hershall Hudson of Noble; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Lou Ellen Hudson
A memorial service for lifelong Seminole resident Lou Ellen Hudson is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Congregational Methodist Church.
Danny Grimes is to officiate the service and her remains were cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Hudson, 77, died Friday, March 31, 2006 at Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was born March 23, 1929 to Thomas Phillip and Lela (Crossno) Crist.
She worked at Good Hope Elementary, Varnum High School, Seminole Postal Service (10 years) and Daylight Donuts (Three years).
Her hobbies were fishing, knitting, crocheting and raising her eight cats.
Her parents, son Marty Lynn Hudson (Feb. 20, 2006) and sister, Rosemary Elliott (Aug. 21, 2001) preceded her in death.
Surviving is her husband, Roy Junior Hudson of the home; son, Larry Pemberton of New Castle; daughter, Renda Tuttle of Robinson, Ill.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Marty Lynn Hudson
A memorial service for longtime Seminole County resident Marty Lynn Hudson are scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday at Congregational Methodist Church, on Goodhope Road.
His remains were cremated and are to be scattered at the family lake lot in Eufaula.
Hudson died Monday, Feb. 20, 2006 at Seminole Medical Center. He was born Sept. 14, 1954 in Shawnee to Junior and Lou (Crist) Hudson.
He attended Varnum Elementary School and later graduated from Seminole High School in 1972.
Hudson worked as a diesel mechanic and in the oil field most of his adult life. He enjoyed riding motorcycles with his friends and fishing with his family.
His grandparents, Davie and John Ray Hudson and Thomas and Lela Crist preceded him n death.
Surviving are his parents, Junior and Lou Hudson of Seminole; son, Marty Don Hudson of Seminole; sister, Renda Tuttle of Robinson, Ill. and brother, Larry Pemberton of New Castle, Okla.
A photo viewing will be held during the memorial service and family and friends are welcome to share photos of Hudson.
Sharon Huntley
Funeral services for Wewoka resident Sharon Huntley are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Emmitt Elbert officiating, assisted by Rev. Famous Cochran and Rev. Michael Brooks.
Interment is to follow at Westwood Cemetery, Wewoka under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Huntley, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2006 at his residence. He was born Feb. 1, 1949 as the fourth of ten children to Jake and Stella (Pompey) Huntley.
He received his early education in Sasakwa and Wewoka Public Schools.
At an early age he accepted Christ and united with Thomas Town Baptist Church, where he remained until his death.
He enjoyed riding his bicycle and smiling.
His father, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
Surviving is his mother, Stella Mae Huntley of Wewoka; seven sisters, Quanletta Carolina, Shirley Huntley, Lillie Mae Huntley, Lavoris Huntley, Pearl Huntley, Ruby Huntley and Adella Stephens, all of Wewoka; two brothers, Joe Huntley of Lexington, Okla. and T.S. Huntley of McAlester.
Paul Raymon Hurst
Former Maud resident Paul Raymon Hurst died June 24, 2006, in Magnolia, Texas, at the age of 63.
Funeral services were held in Magnolia, Texas, on June 26, 2006, at the Chapel of Magnolia Funeral Home, under the direction of Mr. Glenn Addison, with Rev. Jack Carr officiating.
Hurst was born Aug. 17, 1942, in Ada, to John Hurst and Jimmie Hurst.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Hurst is survived by his mother; two brothers: Robert Hurst and David Hurst; a sister, Melody Guinn; two sons, Paul Hurst and John Hurst; two daughters, Kimberly LasSabe and Kelly Hurst; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers at the service in June were Gaylon Bolling, Jeremy Bolling, Daniel Hofferek, Joseph Hurst, Ray Navarro, and John Ramsey.
Debby Huynh
Funeral services for Wewoka resident Debby Jean Huynh are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at New Testament Church, Wewoka, with Edward Daney officiating.
Interment is to follow at Grace Family Cemetery, Achille, Okla.
A wake service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday at the Wewoka residence under the direction of Stout-Philips Funeral Home.
Huynh, 53, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006 in Oklahoma City. She was born Jan. 7, 1953 in Atoka to Roger and Ada (Wilkerson) Johnson.
She married TuVan Huynh on July 2, 1998 in Wewoka and she was a mother and homemaker.
Huynh was a member of New Life Church in Wewoka and attended school in Dallas, Texas.
Her parents, brother, Roy Lee Billey and Jimmy Billey preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Jacquelyn Jackson of Oklahoma City and Katheren Gosvener of Tulsa; two sons, Francis Henry Jr. of Oklahoma City and Jerry Henry of Palm Park, Texas; four brothers, Roman Billey, Harry Billie and Bud Billey, all of Dallas, Texas and Bobby Billey of Allen; three sisters, Martha Billey, Linda Alemean and Dorothy Billey, all of Dallas, Texas and 13 grandchildren.
Bessie Irby
Graveside services for Wewoka resident Bessie Carrie Irby are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Tate Mountain Cemetery with Palmer Smith officiating.
Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Irby, 96, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006 in Holdenville. She was born March 20, 1910 in Stuart, Okla. to David and Belle (Towery) Choate.
She attended Stuart Schools and later married Vernon Irby and was a homemaker.
Her parents and husband preceded her in death.
Surviving are her nieces and nephews, Josephine Factor Hulsey, Tommy Factor, Dan Factor, Joycette Factor, Earl Dean Factor, Max Smith, Kale Smith, Bob Smith, Billie Dean Self, Jo Ellen Smith, Nita Kay Langdon and David Langdon and five great-nieces and nephews.
Orville Isaacs
Funeral services for lifelong Konawa resident Orville D. Isaacs were held today at 11 a.m. at the Pentecostal Holiness Church, Konawa with Rev. Robert ‘Bob" Teel to officiate.
Interment followed at Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Konawa.
Isaacs, 81, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006 at Ballard Nursing Center in Ada. He was born on March 3, 1924 in Konawa to Jesse "Jess" Isaacs and Ida belle (Breechen) Isaacs.
On Feb. 11, 1946 he married Fairy Williams in Konawa and was an oilfield pumper, deacon and choir director for his church.
He was a sergeant in the United States Air Force and a 32nd degree Mason.
His parents and two brothers, Raymond and Beecher Isaacs, preceded him in death.
Surviving is his wife Fairy Isaacs of Ada; three sons, Ronnie Isaacs of Konawa, Jerry Isaacs of Tulsa and Greg Isaacs of Shawnee; three brothers, Bill, Vernon and Doug Isaacs, all of Konawa; five sisters, Wyoma Pairet of Brownsburg, Ind., Audrey Coursey of Albuquerque, N.M., Lola Roberts of Bakersfield, Calif., Lavada Archer of Phoenix, Ariz. and Geneva Rodgers of Konawa; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers for the services will be Andy Joel, Michael Isaacs, Billy Golden, Anthony Tomlinson and Don Williams. Honorary bearers are to be Newt Scoggin, Kenneth Matthews, Gary Doner and Barry Streetman.
