Barbara Mendenhall

Graveside services for Wewoka resident Barbara Mendenhall are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Oakwood Cemetery with Jerry States officiating.

Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Mendenhall, 46, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2006 in Okemah. She was born March 2, 1960 in Wewoka to James Allen Mendenhall and Wanda (Davis) Mendenhall.

Her father preceded her in death.

Surviving is her mother, Wanda Mendenhall of Nebraska; sisters, Donna Minich of Tennessee, Ruth Mendenhall of Nebraska and Anita Mendenhall of Wewoka and brother, Wesley Mendenhall of Nebraska.

Curtis Mendenhall

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident Curtis Wayne Mendenhall are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.

Rev. Tommy Clark is to officiate with interment to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Mendenhall, 25, died Saturday, Jan 28, 2006 in Oklahoma City. He was born Oct. 20, 1980 in Shawnee to Robert Wayne Mendenhall and Ellen (Wells) Mendenhall-Harper.

He was disabled and a member of First Baptist Church in Seminole.

Surviving are his parents, Robert Wayne Mendenhall and his wife Carol of Pensacola, Fla. And Ellen Harper and husband Willie of Yorktown, Texas; maternal grandparents, Fred and Violet Bailey of Florida; paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Barbara Mendenhall of Seminole and great-grandmother Rachel Mendenhall of Seminole.

In addition, six brothers, Jonathan Mendenhall of Springfield, Mo., Bradley Mendenhall of Seminole, Michael Mendenhall of Yorktown, Texas, Jericho Mendenhall of Bakersfield, Calif., Joseph Mendenhall of Pensacola, Fla., Jerred Anson and William Harper, both of Yorktown, Texas and three sisters, Cassie Mendenhall of El Reno, Raven Harper of and Shantana Harper, both of Yorktown, Texas.

Anna Lee Merkel

A mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for longtime Konawa resident Anna Lee Merkel.

A rosary and vigil will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the church. Father Joe Arledge and Father Matthew Brown, O.S.B., are to officiate.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Konawa.

Merkel, 90, died Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at Unity Health Center, Shawnee. She was born June 4, 1915 in Maud to Leo Ardis O’Connor and Anna (Bouska) O’Connor.

On Oct. 28, 1945 she married Ephraim Merkel in Los Angeles, Calif. and she worked in a glass factory in California and also worked as a nurse’s aid.

Merkel has been a Konawa resident since 1976 and she was a devout Catholic and member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Konawa. She was active in the Altar Society and a CCR teacher.

Her parents; husband (Sept. 5, 1963); five brothers, Patrick, Garland, Joseph "Buddy", Michael and Vernon O’Connor and one sister, Mary Helen Matthews, preceded her in death.

Surviving is one brother, Albert O’Connor of Moore.

Dorothy Merriman

Funeral services for former Seminole resident Dorothy Dean Merriman are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Bro. John Roberts officiating.

Interment is to follow at Wetumka Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Merriman, 80, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006 in Oklahoma City. She was born on Jan. 8, 1926 in Collinsville, Texas to Squire Curtis and Alma Lucille (Ogle) Umsted.

She was a retired restaurant owner. In June of 1975 she married Glen Merriman in Wetumka.

Her parents and two brothers preceded her in death.

Surviving is her husband; two daughters, Linda Self of Newcastle and Helen Low of Normangee, Texas; three brothers, Joe Umsted of Irving, Texas, Max Umsted of Bristow and Ray Umsted of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Juanita Wilson of Houston, Texas and Melba Delbagno of Streetman, Texas; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Pallbearers for the services will be Chris Self, Bill Brown, Richard Brown, Greg Umsted and Billy Joe Umsted.

Honorary bearers will be Jerry Umsted, James Hill and Buford Hill.

Sarah Merriman

A memorial service for former Wrangler plant worker, Sarah Grace Merriman is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday at the Fisher Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Crawford officiating.

Services are under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home of Holdenville.

Merriman died at her daughter’s home in Victoria, Texas on Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, at the age of 68 years. She was the daughter of Joseph and Alta (Brimer) Payne, born on June 21, 1938, in Mason, Okla.

She was brought up in the Mason and Okemah areas, and attended schools there. She was a hard worker and wasn’t afraid to tackle any job, and she gave her best effort to whatever her job was.

Merriman was an employee of Kingsberry Homes in Holdenville from 1972 until the plant closed in 1982, then for two years was a security guard for the Pinkerton Agency before moving to Texas.

She operated The Family Store in Schroeder, Texas from 1984 to 1990, then returned to Oklahoma and worked at the Wrangler plant in Seminole until her failing health would no longer allow.

In September 2006 she moved back to Texas to be with her daughter.

Merriman had many hobbies and especially enjoyed doing crafts. She enjoyed getting together with family and friends, and the joy of her life was to be with her grandchildren.

Her parents, Joseph and Alta Payne, and one brother, Joseph Payne, precede her in death.

She is survived by five children, Teresa Schneider, Delbert Cornell, both of Victoria, Texas, and Daryl Cornell, Dennis Cornell, and Darla Rodgers, all of Holdenville; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; four sisters, Etta Connell of Yale, Okla., Wanda Gaddis of Choctaw, Sue Ellis of Auburn, Ind., and Nora Bryant of Wewoka, Oklahoma and one brother, Steven Green of Kingfisher, Okla.

Christopher Merritt

Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Christopher Ray Merritt, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Sand Creek Eufaula Church with Rev. Houston Tiger and Billy Merritt to officiate.

Wake services are scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sand Creek Eufaula Church and interment is to be at Davis Family Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Merritt, 33, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2006 in a Tulsa Hospital. He was born Dec. 18, 1975 in Wewoka to Tarpie Yargee and Ostie (Green) Harjo.

He graduated from New Lima High School and was a member of Sand Creek Eufaula Baptist Church. Merritt worked for "2 Fellas and A Big Vehicle" company as a mover.

His grandfathers, Wesley Green and Phillip Yargee preceded him in death.

Surviving is his wife Nancy of the Tulsa home; five children, Chandra Stewart, Akeeyah Merritt, Bryce Merritt, Christopher Merritt Jr. and Raeleigh Merritt, all of the home and two grandmothers, Cora (Lena) Green of Wewoka and Winey (Scott) Yargee of Holdenville.

In addition, four sisters, Yahnah Factor of Wewoka, Pamela Yargee and Esther Yargee, both of Cromwell and Sharon Yargee of Wetumka and five brothers, Mose Merritt of Wewoka, Edmond Harjo, Clifford Harjo, Charlie Harjo and Isaiah Harjo, all of Ada is also surviving him.

Pallbearers for the services will be Russell Ballard, Josh Keeler, John Winchester, Lenny Smith, Bobby Martin, Mike Livingston, Ron Holata and his co-workers.

Dempsey Micco

Funeral service for former Seminole resident Dempsey Micco are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at the Warren-Mcelwain Funeral Home located at 120 W. 13th Street Lawrence, Kan.

Micco age 67, died Thursday, March 9, 2006 at his home in Lawrence, Kan. He was born March 25, 1938 to Hempsey Roberts and Mattie Looney Micco near rural Henryetta.

The Micco family lived in and around Seminole throughout their youth and into their adult lives.

Surviving is his wife Ramona Micco of Lawrence, Kan.; son Doug Micco of Canon City, Colo.; daughter Diana Micco-Pinegar of Kansas City, Kan.; brothers, Robert Frisco Micco of Grove, Johnny Micco of Weeletka and Tommy Fisher of Weeletka and sisters Alice Roberts of Dustin, Ann Hickey of Bryant, Sarah Micco of Weeletka, Nell English of Okmulgee and Rainey Marks of Weeletka.

Frances Middlebrook

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident, Frances (Turner) Middlebrook, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel, Seminole.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel.

Interment is scheduled for Monday at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Columbus, Texas, near Houston.

Frances passed away Monday, March 13, 2006 at the age of 87. She was born Nov. 27, 1918 in Colorado Springs, Colo. to Robert and Lois (Campbell) Turner.

She grew up on a wheat farm in Northern Oklahoma with her sister, Eleanor and brother, Robert A.

Frances graduated from Northwestern State College in Alva, where she received an art degree and taught school until she married Earl Williamson Middlebrook in January of 1942 in Liberal, Kan.

The couple was devoted to one another for nearly 44 years and he preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 1986.

She was a devoted wife, wonderful mother and grandmother, who loved her family. She enjoyed water coloring, artwork, volunteering at the Jasmin Moran Children’s Museum and taking care of her cows.

Frances was a social worker for the State of Oklahoma Department of Human services and a member of the First Baptist Church in Seminole.

She is survived by her son, Earl T. Middlebrook of Wichita Falls, Texas; her daughter, Linda Perrotto of Fair Haven, N.J.; brother, Robert A. Turner of Kansas City, Mo. and four grandchildren, Jonathan Perrotto, Matthew Perrotto, Amanda Middlebrook and Earl A. Middlebrook.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest that donations may be made to The Seminole Heritage House Nutrition Center, 210 W. College, Seminole, OK 74868 and the Jasmin Moran Children’s Museum, P.O. Box 1828, Seminole, OK 74818.

Elizabeth Tiger Middleton

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Elizabeth "Losta" Tiger Middleton are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Dorsey Nero and David Little officiating.

Interment will follow at England Family Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Visitation will be held at the family home starting at 5 p.m. until at 5 p.m.

Middleton died Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at the age of 67. She was born May 15, 1938 to Lewis and Mandy (Tiger) Wise in Seminole.

She was married to Elmer Arthur Middleton; he preceded her in death in 1990.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Presbyterian Church in Wewoka, Oklahoma.

Her mother and husband preceded her in death.

Surviving is her father, Lewis Wise of Seminole; two daughters, Carrie Isaacs of Konawa and Shannon Anderson-Toombs of Coupeville, Wash. and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Allen Webb, Charles Epperson Wise, Ryan Burchett, C.J. Bear, Junior England and Johnny Wolf.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sammy Davis, Jim Locust, Lance Primeaux, and Jimpsey Carbitcher.

James Middleton

Graveside services for Wewoka native James A. Middleton are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at Little Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Broadway Mortuary in Wichita, Kan.

Middleton, 70, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006 in Wichita, Kan. He was born June 27, 1936 in Wewoka to Mart and Pearlie Middleton.

He was a retired Cessna engineer who had lived in Cromwell for many years.

His parents and sister, Nelda, preceded him in death.

Surviving is his wife, Margaret; son, Craig Middleton; daughters, Cindy Rogers, Carrie Middleton and Connie Motl; brother, Robert Middleton; sister, Evelyn Metzler; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
