A memorial service for former Seminole area resident, Bobby Joe Orr has been scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Calvin Cemetery Chapel with Rev. Jason Loggin officiating.
Services are under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home of Holdenville.
Bobby Joe Orr passed away in Wewoka on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2006 at the age of 71 years.
He was the son of Alton and Viola (Renfrow) Orr, born in Atwood, Okla. on Aug. 15, 1935.
Bobby was reared in Calvin, Okla. and graduated from Calvin High School in 1955. He joined the United States Air Force, and following his military service lived in various places, and then settled in the Seminole area, where he lived for many years.
Bobby loved fishing, hunting and dancing; but his greatest love was his fantastic garden. He was of the Church of Christ faith.
His parent, Alton and Viola Orr, preceded him in death.
He is survived by one son, Bruce Orr of Dallas, Texas; one granddaughter, Amelie Orr of Plano, Texas; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Judy Orr of Choctaw and Tommy and Linda Orr of Calvin; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Leroy Catell of Mansfield, Texas, Cleta and Eddie Boatman of Seminole and Vicki and Victor Sanders of Earlsboro; numerous nieces and nephews, other family and many friends.
Dora Orsburn
Funeral services for Wewoka resident Dora "Tennie" Orsburn are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Phillip Mullins officiating.
Interment is to follow services at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Orsburn, 93, died Monday, March 20, 2006 at a local nursing home. She was born April 2, 1912 in Self, Texas to Columbus W. Moran and Nancy Jackson-Smith Moran.
At the age of three years old she and her family moved to Tishomingo, in 1926 to Holdenville and in 1931 moved to Dixie Lease.
She attended school in Holdenville and married Ralph Earl Orsburn on July 1, 1930 in Holdenville.
Orsburn worked for the County Agent as a soil tester and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and the Home Demonstrations Club. She loved to quilt and to crochet.
Her parents, two sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.
Surviving is her husband of the Wewoka home; three sons, Arther Orsburn and Charles Leroy Orsburn, both of Wewoka and Henry Ellis Orsburn of Austin, Texas; two daughters, Nancy Louise care of Tulsa and Lila Marie Yahola of Oklahoma City; 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Lois Orsburn
Funeral services for former Seminole resident Lois Anita Orsburn are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Calvary Way Church, Prague, with Starland Davis officiating.
Interment is to follow at Yeager cemetery in Yeager under the direction of Parks brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
Lois Anita Orsburn departed this life on Monday, Oct. 9, 2006 in Prague at the age of 85. Lois, the daughter of Virgil Lee and Mary Catherine (Nobles) Trammel, was born March 19, 1921 in Joplin, Mo.
On Sept. 18, 1944 Lois married Fred Orsburn in Norman.
Her husband, parents, three brothers, one sister, one daughter and one son preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Cynthia Orsburn of Checotah and Kenneth and Sheila Orsburn of Locust Grove and daughters and sons-in-law, Lana and Danny Iverson of Checotah, Sharon and Larry Whitlock of Seminole, Shirley and Ray Watson of Prague, Barbara and Van Alstine of Kansas and Vicki and Johnny Woods of Prague.
In addition, Lois’ grandchildren, Trina, Ginger, Chad, Daryl, Marsha, Bryan, Lois, Daniel, Charlotte, Michelle, Larry Jr., Jimmy, Mickey, Jachin and Boaz and great-grandchildren, Genesis, Summer, Lauryn, Brendan, Kennedy, Landon, Tyler, Latisha, Neesha, Kayle, Christopher, Cody, Dakota, Gage, Autumn, Kameron, Ty and C.J. survive her.
Clara Luvicie Works Owen
Graveside service for longtime Seminole resident Clara Luvicie Works Owen will are scheduled for Wednesday May 3, at 1 p.m. at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Shawnee.
The family will receive friends and loved ones at Swearingen Funeral Home from 6 to 7 pm, Tuesday evening May 2.
Clara passed away Sunday April 30, 2006 at her home in Seminole surrounded by her family’s love. She was born Feb. 18, 1907 in Brashear, Texas to Andrew Eli and Marianna Evans Works.
She was raised in Boswell, Okla., attended Murray State College at Tishomingo, graduating with a lifetime teaching certificate.
Clara married Bird Owen May 14, 1937 in Boswell. During her life she worked as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse and during World War II she built airplanes for Douglas Aircraft.
She also worked as a nurse’s aid, and secretary-bookkeeper for Owen Rack Shop.
Most of her life was spent being a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a woman of great faith in her God and Savior, a member of Ideal Street Baptist Church since moving to Seminole from Earlsboro in 1954.
She spent her life witnessing to others through her deeds and actions and the sharing of her tremendous faith through prayer.
Her parents; all eight brothers and sisters and her husband, Bird in June 1992, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Jerry Owen Tipton of Seminole and Marianna Owen Streets and husband James of Springfield, Va.; son, Donald Owen and wife Anita of Plano, Texas; grandchildren, Neill "Tommy" Tipton and wife Jane of Eldersburg Md., Chris Tipton and wife Jacqueline of Portland, Texas, Kelly Tipton Hankal of Seminole, Steven Owen of Park City, Utah, Laine Owen Nixon and husband Jason of Atlanta, Ga., Sloan Childers III of Georgetown, Texas, Lt. Cmdr. Clark Childers USN and wife Cindy of Middletown, R.I.
In addition, surviving are 12 great-grandchildren and spouses, Virginia Hankal Hair and husband Jeremy, Galen Hankal and wife Lezlie, all of Seminole, Sheena Tipton Tanner and husband Tony of Jacksonville, Fla., Brittany Tipton of Copperas Cove, Texas, Christopher Tipton of Portland, Texas, Kerry Johns Birger and husband Josh of Eldersburg, Md., Kathleen and Neill "Smitty" Tipton also of Eldersburg, Sloan IV, Mitchell and Rachel Childers of Georgetown, Texas and William Childers of Middletown, R.I. and two great-great granddaughters, Carlee Jane Tanner of Jacksonville, Fla. and Charity Ann Hair of Seminole.
She is also survived by and will be greatly missed by a host of nieces and nephews and many, many others who loved "Granny O".
Jake Owen
There have been no services planned at this time for Seminole native DeWayne "Jake" Owen who died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006 in Oklahoma City.
He was born Aug. 12, 1937 in Seminole to A.B. and Iva Owen. Owen graduated from Seminole High School in 1955 after a remarkable athletic career.
A three-sport letterman, Owen played on an AAU championship baseball team and was named to all-conference and all-state football squads.
The 1955 National Prep Football Magazine ranked him 4th nationally in pass receiving. Owen attended Oklahoma A&M on a football scholarship.
He left college early to begin working in the oil patch, where he spent most of his career with BJ Hughes Services.
His work took him all over the state and eventually to the North Sea and throughout Europe. As vice president of international sales for BJ Hughes, Owen lived in Stavanger, Norway and later London, England.
Upon returning to the United States, he co-founded Production Service, Inc. and was recently honored at his 50th high school reunion by being inducted in to the Seminole High School Hall of Fame.
Surviving is his wife of 25 years, Mary; three children, Shereata, Clint and Todd; stepdaughters, Chris and Wendy; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Narva Owens
Graveside services for former Seminole resident Narva Arlena Owens are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Blanchard Cemetery.
Rev. David Pickard will officiate with arrangements made under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home, Blanchard.
Owens, 80, died Wednesday, June 28, 2006. She was born Sept. 2, 1925 in Grundy County, Tenn. to Bessie L. (Byers) and Wilburn Johnson.
She earned a bachelor’s degree from East Central State in psychology and was employed by the Department of Human Services as a social worker.
Owens was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seminole and moved from Seminole to Blanchard three and one-half years ago. She enjoyed reading, gardening, bird watching and family gatherings.
Her parents and an infant brother preceded her in death.
Surviving are her children, Jack Anderson of Clifton, Tenn., Glen Thomas of Blanchard, Richard Thomas of Charleston, Ark., David Thomas of Wewoka, Stephen Thomas of Byng, Randall Owens of Topeka, Kan., Shirley Rothell of Stephenville, Texas and 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Margaret Painter
Funeral services for Margaret Jean Painter are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel in Ada, Brothers Joe Dixon and Delmar Hume will officiate.
Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Criswell Funeral Home, Ada.
Margaret Jean Painter, 74, Byng, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday night, Nov. 2, 2006 while her family sang hymns around her. She was born Jan. 22, 1932 at Goodlett, Texas to Iven Edward and Beulah Grissom Love.
She attended school at Roff and graduated from Latta High School in 1949. She attended East Central University for two years.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and proud grandmother who always put her family first.
Her kindness, quick encouraging smile, and sweet gentle spirit reached out to everyone she met. She was a compassionate and caring person who radiated the love of God in her life.
She never said an unkind word to anyone or ever complained about anything. She saw the best in everyone and was a great friend and encourager.
On Jan. 16, 1954 he married Bill Painter in Oklahoma City and enjoyed 52 wonderful years together.
She was employed with the Wickhams Packing Plant for 13 years. Mrs. Painter managed the Byng Concession Stands for 22 years, retiring in 1992.
She and her husband Bill took great pleasure in gardening and sold vegetables from their home after retirement. They enjoyed visiting with everyone.
She was a dedicated member of the New Bethel Baptist Church for 34 years, where she taught Sunday school, served on numerous church committees, and helped anyone in need.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Painter, Sr., of the home; a son, Bill Painter, Jr. and wife Janet, Ada and their son, Christopher of Stillwater; a daughter, Debbie Abel and husband Glenn and their children Matt, Michelle, and Micah, all of Wewoka; a son, David Painter and wife Debbie, Byng and their children Austin and Jessica; two brothers, Earl Love and wife Virginia, Frisco, Texas, and Paul Love and wife Shirley, Ada; and a sister, Betty McCullers and husband Warren, Denton, Texas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her parents, a brother, Edward Love, January 1974 and a sister Mildred Love in 1944, preceded her in death.
Bearers will be men of the New Bethel Baptist Church. Honorary bearers will be Ed Cavener, Charles Jones, Don Ellis, and Robert Weddle.
Margaret’s gentle caring ways, sweet smile, and loving spirit will never be forgotten. We praise God for her life and witness.
Virgie Parker
Funeral services for Wewoka resident Virgie Mae Parker are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Wewoka.
Interment is to follow at Westwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Parker, 88, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006 in Oklahoma City. She was born March 7, 1918 in Okfuskee County to Claude and Virginia (Wright) Hill.
She attended Center Schools in Cromwell and was of the Baptist faith.
In 1938 she married Bert Parker in Cromwell.
Her parents; three brothers, Calvin, Melvin and Wallace Hill; four sisters, Repol Hunt, Gertrude Hill, Pauline Hill and Claudia Jones preceded her in death.
Surviving are her children, Elizabeth Loving of Los Banos, Calif., Edverda Hightower of Cromwell, Patricia Beaver of St. Louis, Mo., Tommy Noble of Arcadia and Willie Simpkins of Cromwell; one brother, Ralph Hill of Kansas City, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren and five great-great-great grandchildren.
Bill Mark Parks
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Bill Mark Parks are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at the Seminole Church of Christ.
Chris Stinnett, Cameron John and Doe McRay will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Parks passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2006 in Seminole at the age of 93. He was born on June 15, 1912 in Booneville, Ark. to Granville Winfield and Mutelle (Shamblee) Parks.
Bill owned and operated Bill Parks Tank Company and Parkinsol Oil Company for many years. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Seminole.
He married Thelma McElroy on March 13, 1936, they were married 56 years and she preceded him in death on March 31, 1992. He later married Bonnie Lee (Fortner) Grisso Parks on June 28, 1994 in Seminole, Oklahoma.
His first wife, Thelma, and two sons, Carroll Gene Parks and Tommy Parks preceded him in death.
Bill is survived by his wife Bonnie Lee Grisso Parks of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Vivian and Tommy Mills of Seminole; daughter-in-law, Judy Parks of Seminole; four grandchildren and their spouses, Piper John and husband Cameron, Misty Floyd and husband Jeff, Derek Parks and wife Amber, Tyler Parks and wife Natasha and 12 great grandchildren.
Casket Bearers will be Bill McDonald, Jack Mattingly, Wayne Maxwell, Gary Snow, Paul Waltman, and Frank Williams. Honorary Bearers will be Thurman Edwards Sr., Idus England, Cecil Sullivan, Virgil Harris and Bo Clymer.
