Johnita L. Starns

Johnita L. Starns of Seminole passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2006 at the Moffett Cancer Center in Tampa, Fla. following a brief illness. She was born in Maud July 14, 1934 to Johnnie and Daisy Barnes.

She graduated from Maud High School in 1952 and graduated in 1956 as a registered nurse from the Parkland School of Nursing in Dallas, Texas.

In 1957 she married Jimmy L. Starns and was a nurse in Seminole and Wetumka hospitals and was head nurse in Wetumka for several years. She later worked and retired from the General Motors plant in Oklahoma City.

Her father and stepfather, Alvah Gray of Maud, preceded her in death.

Surviving is her husband; her son John; grandsons, Bodhi and Rance of Maud; daughter, Jimilu Starns of Shawnee; Mother, Daisy Gray of Maud; her brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Deborah Barnes of Birmingham, Ala. and nieces, Allison Burden of Tampa, Fla., Susannah Barnes of Mukwonago, Wis. and Rebecca Barnes of Tallahassee, Fla.

The family suggests that memorials may be made to the cancer charity of choice or to the Humane Society.

Mattie Marie Starr

Wake services for longtime Wewoka resident Mattie Marie Starr are scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel.

Rev. Dan Factor and Rev. Jacob Camp are to officiate with interment at Oakwood Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Starr, 80, died Monday, May 15, 2006 in an Oklahoma City hospital. She was born Sept. 5, 1925 in Quinton, Okla. to Noel and Judy (Sexton) Pope.

She was of the Choctaw tribe and attended school in Quinton.

On Jan. 1, 1950 she married Wilbur Starr in Oklahoma City and she worked for Oakridge Nursing Home and was a seamstress.

Starr was a member of the Akasvmku Baptist Church in Wewoka and had raised her grandson, Robert Starr, Jr.

Her parents; two sons, Robert Fields and Raymond Starr; six brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.

Surviving is her husband; five daughters, Darlene Fields, Helen Pendley, Ramona Ward, Robin Starr and Regana Sellars; three sons, Reuben Starr, Robert Starr and Richard Starr; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers for the services will be Lance McGirt, Robert Starr, Jr., Michael Ray Starr, George Edward Sellars, Tony Sellars and Jackson Lowe.

Honorary bearers will be Sean McGirt, Alfred Ward, Anthony Lemon, Austin Hicks, Siah Starr, Hixton Hicks and Dean Baker.

Annie Stephens

A graveside service for longtime Wewoka resident Annie Mae Stephens has been scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Machpelah Cemetery, Nobletown with Gen. Bishop Charley Gilbert, Jr. officiating.

Stephens, 94, died Sunday, April 2, 2006 at Holdenville Hospital. She was born May 11, 1911 in Jones County, Round Oak, Ga. to Peter James Soloman and Addie Lissie Dumas.

She was a member of Ethiopian Reformed Coptic Church of Christ. She held the position of general church servant, Sabbath school teacher, counselor and Guiding Star of the Sacred Women’s Association and general counselor of the International Ethiopian Rescue and Relief Conferences.

Stephens was a longtime employee for Nobletown School and a member of the Wonder Workers Club.

Her parents, husband Clyde Stephens, two sisters and two daughters preceded her in death.

Surviving is her son, Timothy J. Stephens of Oklahoma City; daughter, Marvell Stephens of Wewoka and five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Mark Steward

A memorial service for Konawa resident Mark Charles "Willie" Steward is scheduled for 12 p.m. Thursday at the family residence.

Cremation services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Konawa.

Steward, 52, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006 at his residence. He was born Oct. 26, 1953 in Burbank, Calif. to Ernest Watkins Steward and Mayselle Lenore (Shilling) Steward.

On Oct. 31, 1980 he married Robin Reid in Chatsworth, Calif.

He was an auto glass installer and glazer.

His parents preceded him in death.

Surviving is his wife of the home; three daughters, Erin Steward of Conway, Ark., Elyse Steward of Konawa and Beth Brazell of Conway, Ark.; one stepbrother, Joel Bellah of Frazier Park, Calif. and two stepsisters, Kathleen Vargas of Thousand Oaks, Calif. and Janice Bellah of Frazier Park, Calif.

Elsie Dean Stewart

Funeral services for Wewoka native Elsie Dean Housdon Stewart are scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Church in Wewoka.

Visitation will be held Friday evening at Stout Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Stout Funeral Home.

Elsie passed away Monday, April 24, 2006 after courageously battling lung cancer for more than a year. She was born the second child of Minnie and Louie Housdon on April 4, 1934 in Wewoka.

She graduated from Pampa High School and worked 35 years for Texaco, Inc. as a secretary and stenographer.

Elsie raised two sons, Ronny and Donny in Odessa, Texas. She later moved to Deleon, Texas.

She was a wonderful mother and provider for her sons. For 19 years, she was a loving caretaker for her dear mother, Minnie (MomMa), who preceded her in death in 2003.

Surviving are her sons, Ronald M. Stewart, M.D., wife Sherri and their children Elizabeth, Jackson and Mary, all of San Antonio; and Donald A. Stewart, M.D., wife Shannon and their children, Tyler, Morgan and Luke, all of Lorena; and her dear sister, Maxine Tolson and husband Bill of Oklahoma City.

Her family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Howard Dickey in Deleon.

There are too many physicians and nurses in San Antonio to thank individually; however, Elsie and her family were blessed by all those who cared for her at University Hospital, the CTRC and the Fredericksburg Care Center in San Antonio.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made either to the San Antonio Area American Cancer Society (8115 Datapoint Dr., San Antonio, TX 78229, (800) 227 – 2345) or the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio Medical School Alumni Scholarship Fund for medical education, (7703 Floyd Curl Dr., San Antonio, TX 78229-3900. Tropal Lee Stewart

Funeral services for Wewoka High School graduate Tropal Lee Stewart are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Chesser officiating.

Interment is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Stewart, 78, died Sunday, May 21, 2006 at Seminole Estates Nursing Center. She was born Sept. 25, 1927 in Bristow to Vernon Alfus and Violet Margaret Isabella Bryant Wright.

She attended Butner and Wewoka Schools.

Her parents and one sister, Gertrude Isabella Wright Hail preceded her in death.

Surviving is her husband, Robert Stewart, of the home; sister, Marvell Mittie Irby of Holdenville; son, Michael L. Stewart of Carrolton, Texas; daughter, Lydia Lea Stewart of Seminole; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Herman Stillwell

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident, Herman Stillwell, are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole.

Rev. Bobby Ray Curry is to officiate and interment will follow at Westwood Cemetery in Wewoka.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Stillwell, 84, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2006 at his home in Seminole. He was born June 18, 1922 in Idabel, Okla. to Henry Stillwell Sr. and Elum (Flenory) Stillwell.

He served in the United States Army in Company A – 25th Infantry, as a private.

Stillwell moved to Seminole 66 years ago from Idabel and worked for Earnest Warner for 17 years in Seminole and has also worked for Norton-Ramsey Chevrolet in Seminole and for Scott Chevrolet in Tulsa for three years.

He was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Seminole and of the D.A.V. American Legion Post #204 in Seminole.

In May of 1957 he married Mildred (Ransom) Stillwell at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Seminole.

His parents and three brothers, Henry Stillwell Jr., Houston James Stillwell and Semon Stillwell preceded him in death.

Surviving is his wife, Mildred Stillwell of the home; four sons, Anthony Stillwell and Freddie Stillwell, both of Seminole, Larry Stillwell of Oklahoma City and James Stillwell of Michigan; four daughters, Darlene Stillwell of Seminole, Norma Jean Lewis of Atlanta, Ga., Loretta Stillwell of Michigan and Vonda Stillwell of Chicago; one brother, Earnest Stillwell of Seminole; 18 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

Casket bearers for the services will be: Larry Stillwell, Anthony Stillwell, Lee Pierce, Phil Evans, Lewis Haywood and Marlon Galbreath.

Honorary bearers will be Larry Smith, Percy Stillwell and Robert Foxx.

Anna Stoll

A memorial celebration for Earlsboro resident Anna M. Stoll is scheduled for 12 p.m. Saturday at the home of Glen and Anna Moore.

Cremation services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Stoll, 71, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006 at Seminole Medical Center. She was born Nov. 30, 1934 in Newark, N.J. to Martin and Anna (Figuero) Savage.

On Sept. 20, 1952 in Newark, N.J. she married Richard Stoll, Sr. and moved to Seminole County 32 years ago.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Congregational Methodist Church.

One sister, Thelma Bunn, preceded her in death.

Surviving is her husband, Richard Stoll, Sr. of the home; one son, Richard Stoll, Jr. of Germany; two daughters, Dorothyann Sims of Seminole and Anna Moore of Earlsboro; one sister, Cora Melnyk of New Jersey and six grandchildren.
