Funeral services for Wewoka resident Lana Joyce (Wood) Stone were held at 11 a.m. today at Spring Baptist Church in Sasakwa.
Interment is to follow at Spring Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Lana, a respected member of the Wewoka community concluded her life Saturday, May 20, 206 at the age of 66. A loving mother, dependable friend, and dedicated Christian, she will be missed by many.
She was born April 15, 1940 in Wewoka to Daniel Wood and Josephine Harjo.
On May 16, 1959 she married Ozie Stone and they were married 39 years before his passing on Feb. 28, 1999.
The majority of Lana’s work life was spent in employment for a Seminole Nation business endeavor and working for the Wewoka Public School System.
But her greatest joy was caring for, serving, and ministering to others through music and her thoughtful actions.
Surviving are her three children, Mickey Stone and his wife Jeanine of Seminole, Bob Stone and Becky Stone Moore and her husband Dinty, all of Wewoka; three grandsons, T.J. Stone and his wife Megan, Terry Stone and John Stone and one granddaughter, C.J. Stone-Moore.
Pallbearers for the services were Thomas Harjo, Jr., Mark Holley, Scott Johnson, Michael McCurtain, Jim Stafford and Billy Wood.
Honorary bearers for the services were Mark Ervin, Ben Harjo, Jr., Wayne Joplin, Leon Lusty, Johnny Tiger, Jr. and Anthony Wood.
The family would like to express much gratitude to Spring Church, Sand Creek Church and Akasvmkv Church, as well as to the many friends and family members for all their condolences.
Jewel Strayhorn
Graveside services for longtime Seminole resident Jewel Strayhorn are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Little Cemetery with Rev. Steve Cline officiating.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Jewel Strayhorn passed away Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006 at the age of 90, where she was currently a resident at Cole’s Nursing Home in Guthrie, Okla.
She was born on May 17, 1916 to George Washington and Eva Savannah (Goodman) Cheatham in Rushing, Ark. She came to Oklahoma with her family in a covered wagon.
Jewel married Shufford R. "Doc" Strayhorn in Okemah in 1932. He preceded her in death in June of 1972.
She was a cook at Seminole Municipal Hospital from 1970 to 1981. She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Seminole.
Jewel is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Don Strayhorn and brothers, Amos, Ellis, and Ona Cheatham.
Surviving are five grandchildren, Ricky Strayhorn of Seminole, David Strayhorn of Guthrie, Gary Strayhorn of Bowlegs, Randy Strayhorn of Shawnee and Donna Garrett of Texarkana, Texas.
Several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends also survive her.
Henry Streater
Services for Henry Richard Streater of Ada are scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m. at the Fitzhugh First Baptist church in Fitzhugh, Okla.
Interment will follow at the Streater Family Cemetery near Bowlegs. Officiating will be Reverend Steve Wilburn.
Mr. Streater died Tuesday at his residence in Ada at the age of 59. He was born Nov. 20, 1947 in Wewoka to Raymond Loyd Streater and Ella Imogene Mathis Streater.
He married Connie Lynn Cook on March 6, 1987 in Holdenville.
Mr. Streater graduated from New Lima High School in 1965 and went one year at Eastern University in Wilburton. He worked for Jay Petroleum and Lema Petroleum as a pumper. He was a cabinet maker also.
He moved to Ada from Wewoka in 1987. He was a member of the Fitzhugh First Baptist Church and loved coaching the boys’ summer league ball teams.
Mr. Streater also enjoyed scuba diving, snow skiing and spending time with his family.
Mr. Streater is preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Streater of the home; two sons, Rick Streater and daughter-in-law Suan of Shawnee, and Heath Streater and daughter-in-law Christy of Wewoka; one brother, Darrel Streater and sister-in-law Trevia of Wewoka; two sisters, Carolyn Curry of Wewoka, and Bonita Jay and brother-in-law Merle of Wewoka; and three grandchildren, Jace, Jenna, and Lane Streater.
Pallbearers include Wayne Kemper, Rusty Hudson, Ray Marshall, Randy Elmore, Mike Majors, and Benny Martin.
The Men’s Sunday School Class are listed as Honorary pallbearers.
The family has requested that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society program.
Martha Swann
A memorial reception of family and friends has been scheduled for longtime Seminole resident Martha Lovelady Barnes Swann in her home from 4 – 6 p.m. Saturday.
Swann, 70 died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006 at a Shawnee hospital. She was born March 12, 1935 in Shawnee.
She was a volunteer with special needs children, owned and operated Clayton’s Shoe Stores in Dallas, Texas and was a member of the Sweet Adelines in Oklahoma City for many years.
Swann was a homemaker and caregiver in Seminole for several years until she fell ill.
Her parents, sister Gloria Toop and stepdaughter Susan Swann preceded her in death.
Surviving is her husband, Harold Lloyd Swann of the home; two daughters, Linda Barnes Hartt and Karen Barnes Mattson of San Antonio, Texas; stepson Brad Swann of Mesquite, Texas; one brother, John Lovelady of Seminole; three sisters, Billy Gribble of Perry, Ohio, Betty Barrick of Phoenix, Ariz. and Mary Climer of Little City and seven grandchildren.
The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers and food, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Society, 3160 W. Briton Rd., Suite E, Oklahoma City, OK 73120.
Max Swanson Sr.
Graveside services for longtime Seminole resident, Max Arthur Swanson Sr., are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Maple Grove Cemetery with Rev. Gary Wilburn officiating.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Mr. Swanson, 80, passed away Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006 in Seminole. He was born Nov. 11, 1926 in Three Sands, Okla. to Grover G. Swanson and Stella Mae (Clymer) Swanson.
He came to Seminole from Konawa in 1946 and was a carpenter.
He was affiliated with Wright, Inc. as a builder and building contractor and built many homes in the Seminole area; among them were Eastgate and Dixon Green Acres sub-division and homes in Westwood Hills and the Sportsmen lake area.
On May 9, 1945 he married Wilma Olivia Kennedy in Lyons, Kan.
He served as a Private 1st Class in the United States Army during World War II in the 1st Division Band.
In the 1950’s he was active in Boy Scouts, serving as Scoutmaster and was a Little League baseball coach. He was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church all of his life.
Mr. Swanson was a loving husband, father and grandfather who had a very special relationship with his three grandsons, who he loved very much.
He was a very loyal Oklahoma University football fan.
His parent, four sisters and one baby brother preceded him in death.
Surviving is his wife, Wilma, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Max A. Swanson Jr. and Brenda Swanson of Seminole; daughter, Olivia Mae Swanson of Gravevine, Texas; one sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Dave Womble of Hobbs, N.M. and three grandson, Cale and Deanna Swanson of Seminole, Zane Swanson of Winter Park, Colo. and Brian Swanson of Seminole.
Peggy Jo Tate
Graveside services for longtime Seminole County resident, Peggy Jo (Merrell) Tate, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Vamoosa Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Konawa.
Tate, 61, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006 at Ada retirement center in Ada. She was born Jan. 24, 1945 in Konawa to Audie and Vida (Bowerman) Merrell.
In 1970 she married Claud Tate in Ft. Smith, Ark. and she worked at Wal-Mart in Seminole for several years and was a member of Wolf Free Will Baptist Church.
Her parents and one son, John Andrew Tate, preceded her in death.
Surviving is her husband of the home; son, Steven Tate of Wewoka; two daughters, Carolyn of Wayne, Okla. and Rachel of Konawa and one granddaughter.
Beverly Ann Taylor
Graveside services for Holdenville resident Beverly Ann Taylor are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Holdenville Cemetery. Rev. Larry Chesser is to officiate.
Services will be under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home, Holdenville.
Taylor, 63, died Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at her Holdenville home. She was born Aug. 31, 1942 in Dallas, Texas to Harmon and Vivien Roberta (Sceals) Blaylock.
She was raised in the Dallas area and attended school there. She worked for many years for Provident American Life Insurance Company of Dallas, and then moved to Houston, Texas in the later part of 1979.
On Nov. 7, 1980 she married Wayne Taylor in Kemah, Texas and they lived in Houston until moving to Oklahoma in November of 1990.
After residing in the Eufaula area for two years the couple relocated to Holdenville in 1993.
Taylor was employed by Wal-Mart and worked for more than 10 years as an associate in Ada, Holdenville, Garland, Texas and the Seminole stores. She retired on June 23, 2005.
She attended the First Free Will Baptist Church in Holdenville and was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Taylor enjoyed crafts, making candy and reading.
Surviving is her husband of the home; five children, Brenda Taylor of Justin, Texas, Barbara Macalik of Garland, Texas, Dale Head of Dallas, Texas, Robert Head of Forney, Texas and Jessica Taylor of Seminole; seven grandchildren and her adopted daughter, Stephanie Branscum of Holdenville.
Pallbearers for the services will be Wayne Taylor, Eddie Taylor, Mike Macalik, Dale Head and Matt Morris.
Bob Taylor
Funeral services for Holdenville resident Bob Taylor are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Meredith Robinson and Bill Collins officiating.
Interment is to follow at Atwood Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home, Holdenville.
Taylor, 67, died Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at Valley View Regional Hospital in Ada. He was born April 9, 1939 in Holdenville to Mable Taylor.
He was raised in the Holdenville area and graduated from Holdenville High School.
On Feb. 1, 1955 he married Janet Latimer in Paris, Texas and they made their home in Spaulding.
He worked as a ranch manager for many years, and also owned and operated a dozer and grading service for several years.
Taylor also worked for Hughes County District #1 as a roads foreman for eight years before he retired.
He enjoyed hunting, riding horses and rodeos.
One son, Robert Taylor and his mother preceded him in death.
Surviving is his wife Janet of the home; one son, Johnny Taylor of Holdenville; two sisters, Jane Augustus of Orange, Texas and Jody Augustus of Porter, Okla.; one grandson and two great-granddaughters.
