Funeral services for longtime Konawa resident Rebekah Jane Burgess are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Community Church in Vamoosa with Pastor Pam Shirk officiating.
Interment is to follow at Spring Baptist Church Cemetery in Sasakwa.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Konawa.
Burgess, 21, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007 near Goldsby, Okla. She was born April 3, 1986 in Stillwater to Danny and Alice J. (Walker) Burgess.
She graduated from Konawa High School in 2004 and she worked as a customer service representative at Interactive Response Technologies in Ada.
She enjoyed singing, telling jokes and spending time with her family and friends, especially her daughter, Adeline Elizabeth.
Her father preceded her in death.
Surviving is her mother, Alice Burgess of Konawa; her daughter, Adeline Elizabeth of the home; maternal grandparent, Jesse and Betty Walker of Konawa; paternal grandmother, Mary Brown of Wewoka; and four brothers, Bill Dooley of Brunswick, Ga., Patrick Dooley of Ft. Worth, Texas, Daniel Burgess of Norman, and Jonathan Burgess of Apache, Okla.
Casket bearers will be: Lawrence Walker, Bill Dooley, Patrick Dooley, Daniel Burgess, Jonathan Burgess and Adam Palmer.
Joyce Burkhart
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident, Joyce Burkhart, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doyle Long officiating.
Interment is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Burkhart, 79, died Sunday, May 6, 2007 in Tupelo, Miss., while staying with her daughter. She was born Nov. 15, 1927 in Oklahoma City to Walter C. Chambers and Ardie B. (Conner) Chambers.
On March 7, 1958 she married Ted Burkhart in Gainesville, Texas and he preceded her in death on April 14, 2005.
She was a beautician and owned the Fashionette Beauty Salon for over 20 years and was a member of First Assembly of God Church, Seminole.
Her parents and one son, Mike Moss, also preceded her in death.
Surviving is one son, Kris Burkhart of Seminole; one stepson, Donald Burkhart of Oklahoma City; three daughters, Kathy Courtney of Yukon, Cheryl Chahcoi of Olathe, Kan., and Tammy Jenkins of Tupelo, Miss.; one stepdaughter, Donna Weber of Yukon; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Casket bearers for the services will be: Dwight Weber, Don Burkhart, Kyle Renton, Doug Todd, Buck Vaughn and Moe Chahcoi.
Mary Burnett
Funeral services for Seminole resident Mary Louise (Carter) Burnett will be scheduled at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Burnett died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007 at the age of 75 at Solara Hospital in Shawnee. She was born Feb. 13, 1932 in Ft. Cobb, Okla., to Harold Earl Carter and Olive (Jordan) Hendrix.
She worked in a jean factory for many years in Oklahoma City and also worked for Caddo Housing Authority for several years and was a housewife.
Her parents; one son, Forrest Sumter; two stepdaughters, Donna Griffin and Patty Burnett; one brother, Don Carter; and one sister, Carolyn Koch, preceded her in death.
Surviving is son, Jimmy Sumter of Texas; stepdaughter, Phyllis Winters of St. Louis, Mo.; two stepsons, Tommy Burnett of Lexington, Okla., and Jimmy Burnett of Kansas; two brothers, David Carter of Ft. Cobb and Dee Carter of Catoosa; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Wanda Burris
Graveside services for former Wewoka resident Wanda L. Burris are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Oakwood Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.
Burris, 77, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007 following a long illness.
Her husband, Colbert Jackson Burris, parents, and one grandson preceded her in death.
Surviving are daughters, Kay Caswell of Granbury, Texas and Carol Wood of Midwest City; sons, Michael Burris of Tahlequah and Barry Burris of Oklahoma City; and three grandchildren.
Roger Butner
Services for longtime Seminole County resident Roger W. Butner will be held at the First Baptist Church in Wewoka on Friday at 10 a.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.
Mr. Butner died Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at the age of 96, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances M. Faught Butner and his brother, J.D. Butner.
Mr. Butner was born Sept. 30, 1910 in Butner, Okla., to Thomas E. and Mary Ann (Parker) Butner.
A graduate of Butner High School, he attended East Central University in Ada, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1930. He then attended the University of Oklahoma Law School, receiving his Juris Doctorate in 1933.
After Japan’s invasion of Pearl Harbor, Roger served the United States Army in Hawaii as a Master Sergeant in military intelligence.
Upon discharge from the Army and while an Assistant County Attorney, Roger married Frances Marguerite Faught of Wewoka, on May 11, 1948. She has served as an Army staff sergeant and the two kept in close contact throughout the war.
Roger’s father and uncle were Oklahoma pioneers and the duo, Tom and George Butner, followed the railroad west from Prairie Grove, Ark., to Shawnee in 1886.
During their journey, the brothers drove a team of mules, unloading freight and supplies in the area. After briefly exploring the territory, they found their home in the Seminole Indian Nation.
The Butner family also staked a claim in the Oklahoma Land Run of 1889. Soon thereafter a community, a school, and a Baptist Church were established bearing the Butner name. The Butners are listed as one of the "First Families of the Twin Territories," having settled prior to statehood.
Roger Butner retired from the United States Postal service after serving as Wewoka’s Postmaster for 27 years. He was a longtime rancher, a Mason, and a member of the Lion’s Club and American Legion.
A lifelong Sooner fan, Roger enjoyed all sports especially football, and was a wrestler at OU.
Also preceding him in death are half-brothers, Charlie and Raymond Borden, and half-sister, Nettie Borden Stephens.
Surviving family members include his children, George and Trisha Butner of Wewoka, Rick and Tina Butner of Wewoka, and Barbara Butner of Norman; grandchildren, Roger Rhett Butner, Brooke Butner, Dan Hopper, Brett Butner, Blaine Butner, Jenna Butner, Kristin Butner, Mollie Butner and Amy Hopper; and many other nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers include: George Butner, Rick Butner, Rhett Butner, Dan Hopper, Brett Butner, Blaine Butner, and Barbara Butner.
Honorary bearers include: Barry Tucker, Jim Hopper, Jimmy Butner, Mark Williams, Robert Faught and Zane Faught.
The family would also like to express their gratitude to Roger’s caregivers – Nora Bryant, Lori Blackwell, Carol Williams and Maureen Whittington, and the Caring Connection staff – for their wonderful care and attention.

Sharon Elaine Bynum
Sharon Elaine Nunnelley Bynum went to be with her Lord on Friday, May 18, 2007, at the age of 60 years, at her residence in Richland, Texas.
She was born in Allen on Nov. 2, 1946, to Thurman "Jim" Ernest Nunnelley and Sarah Venietta Watts Nunnelley.
Sharon loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren, "spoiling" them every time she had a chance.
She enjoyed sewing and crafts and could talk to anyone and made new friends all the time.
She was a member of the Providence Baptist Church in Mildred.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Jeannie Sue Fredrick.
Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Ronald Douglas Bynum; son, Sean Douglas Bynum and wife Jennifer; four grandchildren, Taitum, Arron, Landon, and Cole Dylan Bynum; sister, Gail Ibery of Earlsboro; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends and loved ones.
Visitation was Monday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home, and funeral services were set to be held today at 10 a.m. at Griffin-Roughton, in Texas, with another service to be held tomorrow (Wednesday, May 23) in Allen, Oklahoma.
The Allen service will be at the First Baptist Church at 2 p.m., with burial following in the Allen Cemetery.
Pallbearers were listed as Scott Fredrick, Carl Fredrick, Cody Fredrick, Kyle Ibery, Kevin Ibery, and Danial Davis. Honorary bearers included Richard Fredrick and Robert Ibery.
Beatrice Caffey
Funeral services for former Seminole resident Beatrice Lucille Caffey are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Robyn Thompson-Goggs officiating.
Burial is to follow at Hennessey Cemetery under the direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home, Hennessey.
Caffey, 85, died Sunday, June 24, 2007 at Integris Bass Baptist Hospital in Enid. She was born Jan. 11, 1922 in Stratford to James and Minnie Goodman Reavis.
On Jan. 11, 1942 she married Paul Newton Caffey in Seminole and they moved to Dover in 1961 and then Hennessey in 1962. The Caffey’s owned and operated Seminole Trucking in Hennessey for a number of years.
Her husband, one sister and one brother preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Paul N. Caffey of Hennessey and Michael Don Caffey of Enid; one daughter, Jo Beall of Hennessey; one sister, Lorraine Drake of Tulsa; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family asks that memorial donations may be made in her name to Coronado Masonic Lodge #56, with the funeral home serving as custodian of the fund.
Wanda Callahan
Graveside services and burial for Seminole native Wanda Leona Keller-Callahan was held on Monday, July 2, 2007 at Westwood Cemetery in Wewoka.
Services were conducted by Rev. Emmitt Elbert and Rev. John T. Berry and under the direction of Keller Memorial Funeral Home of Boley.
Callahan died Saturday, June 23, 2007 at Edwards Redeemer Nursing Home. She was born on Sept. 4, 1938 in Seminole to Clarence B. and Hattie Keller.
She received her elementary education in Seminole County and graduated from Douglass High School, Wewoka, with the Class of 1956.
Callahan and her brother were members of the Church of the Living God in Seminole and she was affiliated with Trinity Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma City, after moving to the Boley area.
Her marriage to Clarence Callahan Sr. produced one son before it ended in divorce. She was a beautician by profession.
Her parents and brother, Fred Keller Sr., preceded her in death.
Surviving is her son, Willard Callahan and a granddaughter.
Elsie Cane
Graveside services for longtime Seminole resident Elsie Mae (Brewer) Cane are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Seminole with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Elsie passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at Seminole Estates Nursing Center at the age of 81. She was born on May 22, 1925 in Calvin, Okla., to Jesse and Icie Belle (Brown) Brewer.
She met and married Charles Cane on July 1, 1955. Elsie owned and operated Mae’s Beauty Shop in Seminole for 32 years.
She has also been a member of the Ladies Auxiliary since 1948.
She is survived by her husband Charles Cane of the home, sister-in-law, Betty Jo Weems and a close friend and caregiver Brenda Reynolds of Seminole.
