A mass of Christian burial for former Seminole resident, E. F. "Gene/Coach" Corrotto, has been scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Ed Menasco officiating.
Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, under the direction of Primrose Funeral Service, Norman.
A prayer vigil will be 7 p.m. tonight at the Primrose Chapel.
Coach Corrotto, 93 of Norman, passes away Monday, Nov. 26, 2007 in Norman. He was born Feb. 23, 1914 in Ft. Smith, Ark., to W.L. and Annie Metzger Corrotto.
Gene was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma where he played football halfback from 1936 to 1938.
He was the 1938 OU football team captain and played on OU’s first Orange Bowl team with an undefeated regular season. Gene received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Oklahoma.
He was a Naval Officer during World War II serving as a boat crew commander. After World War II, Gene came back to Oklahoma and coached athletics at Bartlesville, Seminole, Tulsa Central High School, Tulsa University, Arkansas University, Kansas University and he coached at Norman High School from 1958 to 1973.
He was the alumni coach every year for the OU Football Varsity-Alum games.
Coach Corrotto was a member of the OU Letterman’s Club, and the Oklahoma Coaches Association. He was the first coach inducted into the Oklahoma Coaches Hall of Fame in 1967.
He was also inducted into the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame and the Who’s Who Southern Personality.
Gene was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
His parents; his wife, Bertha; five brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
He is survived by two sons, Gary Corrotto of Tulsa and Shane Corrotto of Norman; his daughter, Dale Corrotto and her husband, Jack Falin of Tampa, Fla.; his brother, Bob Corrotto of Ft. Smith Ark.; two sisters, Imelda Cooksey of Ft. Smith, Ark., and Kathryn Madden of Tulsa; and three grandchildren, Shane "T. R." Corrotto, Carly Danielle Marie Corrotto and Audra Jennings.
Bearers will be Mike Foutch, Joe Sterr, Steve Flowers, Gene Mears, Bob Thompson, and Dan Quinn.
Honorary bearers will be Mike Simmons, Charlie Joseph, Jay Upchurch, Paul Blevins, Gary King, Barry Switzer, Tim Kuhlo, Tom Thomas, Dean Blevins, Dwight Johnson, Wayne Veal, Gary Rawlinson, Bob Barry, Sr., Jack Kimberling, Dr. Gerald McCullough, Bob Vance, Tommy Gallahar, Blake Woolbright, Jerry Thompson, Frank Thompson, Jay Wilkinson, Jake Tullius, Bill Hetherington, John Carroll and Kyle Logan.
The family has suggested the Norman Public School Athletic Department as appropriate for memorial contributions.
Wynema Cothern
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Wynema "Tukie" Cothern are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Pastor Doyle Long officiating.
Interment will follow at Little Cemetery, Seminole, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Cothern died Friday, Sept. 22, 2007 at the age of 83. She was born on Nov. 4, 1923 in Coalgate, Okla., to John and Pearl (Clark) Rogers.
She attended the Immanuel Fellowship Church and was a homemaker.
On June 28, 1947 she married Benny Cothern in Mississippi; he preceded her in death on April 20, 1997,
Her parents, husband, five sisters and four brothers precede her in death.
She is survived her son Jackie Dale "Pug" Ryan of Seminole; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren.
Matilda Cowan
Funeral services for longtime Seminole County resident Matilda "Maxine" Cowan are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Earl Hood and Herschel Davis officiating.
Interment will follow at Coker Family Cemetery near Maud under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Matilda "Maxine" Cowan passed away on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007 in Maud at the age of 77. She was born on Dec. 12, 1929 in Pleasant Grove to Jose Remigo and Lucinda (Coker) Castilla.
She was an L.P.N. at Seminole Hospital for many years and retired in 1992. She was a member of the Achena Presbyterian Church.
She married Wallace R. Cowan, Sr. on Aug. 6, 1952 in Camp Kilmer, N.J.
She is survived by her husband Wallace Cowan of the home; one son, Wallace R. Cowan Jr. of Maud; one daughter, WaDean Cowan of Maud; three brothers and sisters-in-law: Tony and Mary Costello of Tucson, Ariz., Russell Wilson of Shreveport, La., Danny and Leigh Wilson of Phoenix, Ariz.; five sisters and brother-in-law: Anne Kemp of Conroe, Texas, Majel Carpitcha of Oklahoma City, Marie Grow, Peoria, Ariz., Lupe and Leo Ibanez of Alice, Texas and Betty and husband Steve Feigel of Orem, Utah; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dorval and Joan Cowan of Bartlesville and sister-in-law, Mary of Bartlesville.
Four grandchildren: D’Nay and husband Derek Rowsey, Danielle Hamilton, John Grove, Lori and husband Bryan Brewer and five great grandchildren: Desiree Patterson, Emily Hamilton, Colton Grove, Hailee Grove and Devin Brewer also survive her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, one son, Ivan in 1999 and one daughter, Valera Faye in 1957.
A special thanks goes to Sharon Booker, Companions in Caring Hospice of Ada, Linda Davis and the ladies of Med-Cor of Seminole, for all the special care they gave to Maxine.
Casket bearers will be John Grove, Derek Rowsey, Herschel Davis, Steven Brewer, Frank Williams and Robert Wells.
Beneva Cowell
Funeral services for Seminole resident Beneva Ann Cowell are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel in McAlester.
Interment is to take place following at Lone Grove Cemetery, near Scipio.
Services are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home, Hartshorne.
Cowell, 63 died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007 at her home.
Surviving is her husband, Billy Wayne Cowell of the home; one daughter, Melissa Ann Kirkland of Wewoka; two grandsons; six great-grandchildren; three sisters; and five brothers.
Jerry Cox
Graveside services for Wewoka resident Jerry Edward Cox are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at Oakwood Cemetery with Bro. Larry Chesser oficiaitng.
Services are under the direction of Myers Mortuary, Wewoka.
Cox, 47, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007 in Wewoka. He was born June 7, 1960 in Winchester, Ky., to Troy E. and Beulah Cox.
His father preceded him in death.
Surviving is his mother, Beulah Cox of Wewoka; daughter, Jelisa M. Cox of Winchester, Ky.; and sisters, Feloria (Tobie) Rider and Mildred (Teresa) Broussard, both of Wewoka, Vivian Griffett and Kelly Crowe, both of Winchester, Ky.
Pallbearers for the service will be Doug Mayo, Jewell Rider III, Joe Timmins, Bobby Silva, Jewell Rider II, Marchus McFadden and Ronnie Creel.
Amozette Crabtree
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Amozette Crabtree were scheduled for 10 a.m. today at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doyle Long officiating.
Interment followed at 3:30 p.m. at Hartford Cemetery in Hartford, Ark. Services were under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Crabtree, 73, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007 in Seminole. She was born Jan. 5, 1934 in Hartford, Ark., to Pink and Hazel (Sims) Crabtree.
She lived in Seminole for more than 54 years, where she was a seamstress and a dry cleaning operator at the East Side Dry Cleaning Company for 11-1/2 years.
Crabtree was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, where she was very active in the church choir.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Surviving are two brothers, William Cecil Crabtree of Oklahoma City and James Lecil Crabtree of Howe, Okla.
Dale Crabtree
Funeral services for former Wrangler Jean Company employee Dale Wayne Crabtree were held today at 2 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church of Howe.
Interment will be at Howe Cemetery under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home, Heavener.
Crabtree, 42 of Howe, died after a long battle with cancer on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 in Ft. Smith, Ark. He was born on June 17, 1964 in Poteau to James and Imogene (Thrift) Crabtree.
He was a member of the Assembly of God Church of Howe and worked for Wrangler for 21 years before moving back to Howe, where he bought a poultry farm, in 2004.
Crabtree was diagnosed with cancer in January of 2006.
Surviving is his fiancée, Kim Middleton, of Ft. Smith; parents of Howe; one sister, Carol Houck of Seminole and two brothers, David Crabtree of Seminole and Kenneth Crabtree of Howe.
Thelma Craft
Graveside services for Seminole resident Thelma Molly Good Craft are set for 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, at Gable Cemetery west of Prague.
Rev. Don Gill is set to officiate the service, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
Craft died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at Seminole Estates Nursing Home, at the age of 88.
She was born Dec. 10, 1918, in Shamrock, to Henry Good and Cora Alice Lumpkin Good.
The family moved to Seminole County from Davenport in 1926, and she lived in the county ever since.
In August 1935, she married William Doddie Craft in Wewoka.
Thelma Craft was a wife, mother, and a cook for Seminole Junior College until she retired in 1988.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seminole.
Craft was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Marlene Craft Wallace; a granddaughter, Rena Kay Craft; two brothers; and two sisters.
She is survived by a son, John Craft, of Seminole; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Swearingen Funeral Home Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. Viewing will be from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Friday morning.
Barbara Craig
A memorial service has been scheduled for longtime Guymon resident, Barbara Joan Craig, at 2 p.m. Saturday at Victory Memorial United Church in Guymon.
She will be interred with a private ceremony for the family at Guymon Memorial Cemetery.
Craig, died at her residence in Dallas, Texas on Friday, March 16, 2007. She was born in Guymon on Dec. 7, 1922 to Paul and Ruth Smith.
She was a graduate of Guymon High School in 1940 and went on to earn her college degree at Panhandle A&M in business with a minor in home economics.
In 1941 she met Virgil Craig and the couple married Aug. 23, 1942. While her husband served in the Army Air Corps., she taught business, shorthand, typing and bookkeeping at Beaver High School in Beaver, Okla.
She was a longtime member of Victory Memorial United Methodist Church and after her move to Dallas; she became a member of the Schreiber Memorial United Methodist Church.
Craig was a Charter Member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Mothers and Daughters Home demonstration Club and the Martha Ruth Circle. She also served on the Board for Mobile Meals and Dunaway Manor for several years while living in Guymon.
Her husband, her parents, brother, Burton Smith and sister, Phyllis Thayer preceded her in death.
Surviving are her four children, Neil Craig of Seminole, Carol Craig Potter of Dallas, Hal Craig of Tampa, Fla., and Chad Craig of Tulsa; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Victory memorial United Methodist Church or to the Virgil Craig Scholarship Fund.
