Sisters Clara Ruth and Phyllis Nan followed to complete the family. Harry grew up in Ada, attending Horace Mann, the laboratory school for East Central State College from first grade through high school, where his father was principal. His college career at East Central was interrupted by World War II. In the European Theater of Operations, he was engaged in the Battle of the Bulge, fighting with the 808 Tank Destroyer Battalion, 80th Infantry of Patton's Third army and seeing 225 consecutive days of battle. His work included administration in the Department of Education, Acting Director of the Bureau of Audio Visual Instruction and Director of NDEA Institutes for Media Specialists. He personally felt his greatest service mentoring graduate students studying for the Masters and Doctoral degrees.
